Cannot recommend, though they did complete the job and I have noticed only minor damage on one piece of furniture, so it's not a disaster. The issue is the attitude...they moaned for all three hours about everything, right down to the number of slats on the bed (??). They would point to various items and ask if that was included in the quote (it was) and then sigh loudly. It was like this from the very first second of the job -- before they had touched one box. It was just an unpleasant experience. At one point they complained their enormous truck was filled which was only because they didn't disassemble the furniture, probably to save time. They also didn't wrap most of the furniture and forgot to take something from my old apartment which was included in the quote (I didn't notice because the crew was rushing me like hell to "beat" them to the delivery site). I used Sven 10 years ago when they were just a smaller company of two brothers I believe. They moved me from BK to Queens perfectly. They knew how to maneuver tight spaces that look impossible to most as they moved me into a small basement studio. They came with everything possibly needed in case you had been ill prepared (which I was not, for the credibility of this review. In fact I was over diligent.) They took precautions anyway. I used them again this Nov 1st, 2025 to move about 6 blocks down the street in Astoria when my girlfriend and I moved in together. THEY WERE EVEN BETTER THAN THE FIRST TIME. The morning of the move, the head mover in charge was ridiculously rude. After walking around our apartment scoffing at all our stuff, he cancelled the entire move on the spot and gave some BS reason. I think enough time has passed where I can write this review. Worst moving experience of my life with these dudes. I was leaving the worst living situation of my life and then these men come in rude as hell scoffing and saying "it's too much stuff" and that they can't do the move. I'm like what? I literally point to everything I had labeled for them. They agree to do it but they say they're going to leave some stuff behind. At that point I just agree because what else am I gonna do? They were just so horribly rude to me and no one even acted like I was human until I burst into tears in front of all of them. Then they all just stayed silent except for one guy who (when alone with me) apologized. Benji and William moved me today and the experience was as smooth as possible. I had an estimate that it would take them two hours to move and they showed up exactly on time at 11:30 to begin. The entire time they were moving me, they literally ran up and down the steps, and completed the move in exactly two hours at that pace. When it comes to value for your money, they were cheaper than any other moving company I looked at in New York and worked harder than I ever would have expected or asked. They were communicative and responsive over both email and phone, courteous and kind, and treated my things with care. I cannot say enough good things. Was originally quoted a $75 stair fee ( my building had a landing with stairs. I had clarified this in an email but it was not communicated to people day of. So after giving me attitude about the stairs which I had included in an email - they got to work. They then complained about disassembling a kitchen island which was also in the notes ahead of time. At the end of the move they then shook me down for a $300 stair fee. They told me to call the office to work it out which I did and they just said the boxes were heavy - so apparently the hourly fee is only if their job is as easy as possible. They then said the owner could call me back but was away for the weekend and would call on Monday. A week later and no phone call. They quoted the entire move of our 3 bedroom house for a move across Brooklyn. The rate was incredibly reasonable and they said they would move us in 3 hours to our new 3rd floor walk up. We had books, bulky furniture and exercise equipment. We had way more stuff than we thought and we weren't totally packed. These guys were incredibly professional and had us moved into our new place in those three hours. All that was broken were two glasses, and that's because we didn't pack them well. Don't bother - whatever money you might save by using this budget company you will end up spending on another company to move the rest of your stuff and on replacing things they break. They damaged my tv stand so badly the leg broke off (and it wasn't even bearing any weight). Their insurance is terrible so don't expect to be paid out for anything they damage. I've also never experienced a moving company that just doesn't take all of your things. Even things I specifically listed out because they are heavy/ burdensome (adjustable weight set, toolbox) and things packaged neatly in boxes were left behind. They did the same thing to my boyfriend and all he had was a tv, mattress and personal items. His entire move took one hour from start to finish and they still didn't take all of his things (and charged him the three hour minimum). Total scam. They also took apart some items (mostly lamps) and just handed us the bulbs and globes instead of wrapping them and taking them like movers normally do. They put a plant (which I also listed out) carelessly on top of my things so the dirt spilled everywhere and then they brought the dirt into my apartment. I did a state-to-state move and hired Sven Moving to move my belongings from my apartment and into the truck I had booked. In the process of opening the truck on final arrival, it it was evident that there was significant damage to a number of my items, and that the truck was packed very poorly by their team. See the photos for reference, but even this doesn't accurately capture just how haphazardly my items were positioned in the truck, the way requests were ignored, how careless the movers were with my items, and specifically, how very little regard was given to the items that were clearly labeled as "fragile" in clear lettering on their respective boxes. Specifically: 1) As mentioned, I took great care to label boxes with fragile items in them, as such, including listing the itemized inventory inside. I also made sure to set these boxes aside in a separate, distinct stack in my apartment so as to make clear to your movers that these items were all fragile, and to facilitate easy care of positioning them appropriately in the truck. However, not only were these items placed at odd angles and beneath other heavy/sharp items (see: H&M box, which which was clearly labeled in bold letters as "art," as well as labeled - again, in big, bold letters - as "fragile," as they contain expensive frames and delicate glass coverings), these fragile items were even placed at the bottom of stacks of items, leading to the boxes with fragile items collapsing, or being puncture through in several places (see: photo of my boxes of fragile mugs). 2) A very sharply-pointed, heavy, metal rod was placed at an angle up against my couch. This led to several holes being punctured through the upholstery. 3) Additionally, I intentionally purchased a plastic couch cover to ensure safe protection of the fabric of the couch frame and cushions during transport. When your moverstold me that these covers make it difficult for them to move the couch, I was asked to not use the protective covering, to remove the cushions, and to then allow them to cellophane-wrap the couch frame instead. When I expressed concern about the cushions, since they could not fit in garbage bags and I had no other way to protect them at this last-minute juncture, I was assured by your movers that they would wrap them and find a safe place for them. When I saw them removing the cushions from the apartment, unwrapped, I mentioned my concerns yet again and requested that they please be wrapped, and I was again assured that the cushions would be taken care of. They were not. They were placed bare, scattered throughout the truck, without any protective covering, and the fabric pressing up against dirty boxes and other surfaces. 4) Similarly, one of my two large, expensive wool rugs was not wrapped in cellophane. I had offered (and planned) to do this myself, but they said they could take care of it. They did not. Instead I found my carpet shoved in an oddly-shaped hole between boxes/furniture, kinked at weird angles, partially unwound, and filthy. 5) The back of my wardrobe was broken through with a heavy box crashed through it. 6) The wood of my side table was split. 7) The wood of my nightstand (nearly brand new) was split. 8) The wood of my mirror frame was split. 9) The seat of my antique chair was badly scratched and scraped up. 10) The top of my wooden stand was broken in several places. 11) The fabric of my shoe rack was torn/severed from metal rubbing against it. 12) The movers used one of my personal items, my white stool, to stand on as they loaded the truck. It is absolutely filthy and is now wobbly from this inappropriate, and unauthorized use. They never asked me if they could use one of my pieces of furniture to repeatedly stand on (which the stool is certainly not even designed for - I'm amazed it didn't break altogether). This use of my personal belongings is wildly inappropriate and unprofessional. Note that these are just the items that I have accounted for as damaged on a first pass. Because I have placed my items in storage for several months, I cannot account for the full scope of damage at this time, but it is clear from the above that this move was grossly mishandled. There was even an abundance of rope that I provided to the movers to secure the items, but instead, most of the rope was found in a heap on the floor, untouched. Only one, small band of rope was used for a few items at the very top. When I contacted Sven with my concerns, his response was hostile and full of misrepresentations and outright lies. For example, he blamed the damages on me not using purchased, professional moving boxes, when in the company's prep email he sent out himself, he even encourages individuals to obtain boxes via "the 'free' section of Craigslist," clearly indicating that second-use boxes are considered perfectly suitable by his company. I had to change my move date at the last minute because my new super informed I couldn't move on the weekend. Originally I was set to move with Piece of Cake which claimed to be the most affordable movers in NYC. Well, I took their word for it but after they said they would have to charge me double to move my move a day later, I went searching for other movers thinking I was probably not going to get much more of an affordable quote given it was last minute. I quoted Intense Movers and Sven Moving, and Sven ended up being 40% of the cost of Piece of Cake. Piece of Cake was going to charge me thousands for doing my own packing and to move essentially 1 bedroom worth of things to a studio. I was coming from a 2 bedroom with a roommate to now living by myself. Intense Movers was charging a little less than Piece of Cake. Sven Moving is the most affordable movers you can find in NYC from my personal experience. They also have a very easy process for letting them know what you have where other movers make you itemize every thing to nickel and dime you. Sven came back with an affordable quote based off of the short inventory I mentioned to them. I also spoke with Sven, the owner and informed him of my concern that my new building has a 5PM cutoff, and I was worried that they wouldn't move my belongings in time because all they had was an afternoon availability. Sven told me unfortunately, he couldn't guarantee that I would be moved by that time. Well, the movers came an hour early because of my call to Sven, and they moved me by 2PM. Waaaay earlier than promised. That's great customer service. I think some of the problems with the negative reviews has to do with communication. I really made a point to communicate all my concerns with the movers and was there the whole time with my movers to instruct them on what was valuable and what was not. I under estimated my amount of stuff and had to pay a stair fee, but my whole move for a very cluttered 1BR apt came to about 400 dollars when my initial quote was 250 for a van. That was my mistake, it's really hard to estimate all your crap before you start packing and I procrastinated like crazy. The two guys moving my stuff were careful and efficient, wrapping any dressers etc. They definitely deserved the extra I had to pay, and it was still well worth it even being more expensive than planned. They send detailed questions and instructions before your move, noting that they have many moves and know what makes things go well and not so well. They try to give you the most accurate estimate possible and their prices really are super low for the quality of the move. TLDR; Company does not stick to the word. They are untrustworthy, unreliable and lacking in basic business communication skills. In business you are only as good as your word and reputation, and given my interactions with their owner it is clear that his word is flimsy and he doesn't respect his customers enough to properly communicate with them. We were set up for a move with Sven Moving and had been in contact with them as they had been generally responsive to us and reasonable at the beginning. We arranged for a move about a month in advance and all seemed well. When it came time to confirm the appointment by providing credit card info two week before the move date, I spoke with Sven directly over the phone about my concerns of relaying my credit card over the phone and wanted to read the contractual terms about how they handle this info before reading my CC. Given the time sensitivity of the matter, he told me we would have a day to confirm, which I understood. I called back the next day to leave them my credit card info to confirm the appointment and they told me that they removed us from the schedule and were now fully booked leaving us without a moving company just two weeks before our move. To bump us out of a slot when you specifically told us we could confirm the next day and further to not notify us that you were going to remove us from the schedule demonstrates poor business practice and even worse humanistic communication skills. Given this sort of shoddy business practice I would not trust this company or its owner. read more

Starting off on the right foot they got back promptly with my very detailed estimate, and answered all my follow up questions quickly. Giving me a range of options available for my crosstown move on a holiday weekend, which I anticipated would be a huge headache and they made it seamless. Well, they broke my TV. I guess I can list some of the positives first: they gave us by far the cheapest quote of the three movers we priced, they finished the job in the time allotted, and they had a basic working grasp of human manners. The downside being that they broke my TV pretty spectacularly. But in a subtle way, so I didn't notice until a few days after we moved and I plugged it in for the first time. I even asked about the TV before the move - emailed to check if there's anything in particular we should do to protect it. Sven said nope, they'd just wrap it in blankets. I figured I could trust the moving professional, but I was wrong. I definitely saw the movers ding my furniture against a corner or two, also. It's furniture, whatever, it can take it, but electronics not so much. My advice if you're going to use Sven Moving is to move your fragile valuables yourself. If you can't, then just shell out the extra $$ for better movers. I've heard good things about Rabbit and Dumbo. Save yourself the hundreds it will cost to replace your TV. read more

Thanks to previous yelpers, my experience was just as I had anticipated. Low key, efficient, and pleasant. Having moved a lot growing up (of various scales and distances), my recent move was cute. Minimal furtniture, bulky plastic bins, boxes, ... you know. And Sven Moving was perfect for what I needed! Sven gave us the best rate out of the few movers we contacted (the $65/hr deal for 2 men + van) and was available on short notice, which was key. I mean, budget moving? I think this is it! Their website is pretty straightforward and funny with good tips. Check it out when it's back up (most of it's down right now for some reason). They tell you upfront that they don't carry insurance, so it gave me pause, but my current situation allows me to bite the bullet. Besides the fact that I wasn't completely done packing, I moved some things of sentimental value on my own. ** Note: It's not about this company, but my general philosophy is that you have to anticipate loss/breakage when you ask someone to transport your belongings, just like with your checked-in luggage.** I wasn't worried at all about this company, having read the reviews, and especially once I met the movers (Jeff and Milton are super nice!). I was more worried about passersby grabbing my printer off the sidewalk... but the movers go directly from your house to the van so there was no worry :) And to give a shout-out, Jeff is great! He's friendly, easy-going, and hardworking. Despite having to climb a lot of stairs, carrying three times a normal person's load, every drop-off came with a smile. His partner Milton is pretty funny too. I loved their attitude and appreciated their work! Re: mattress bags, I bought them from a hardware store (they're like $5.99 or $6.99), and they rip pretty easily, unlike the initial bed packaging that requires actual scissors. Used these guys about 3 weeks ago and it was a great experience. Communicating via email was easy, received prompt replies to my quote request and questions. The price they quoted was fair and accurate compared to what I've paid in the past and was one of the lowest I got this time around. I was able to reserve the exact time and date I needed as well. The building I was leaving required insurance paperwork and Sven Moving sent me a form they needed me to fill out in order to obtain insurance info. I filled it out, emailed it back, and then they sent all necessary info directly to my building contacts and everything was perfect. So, very easy to get a COI sorted out, provided you follow the instructions that Sven sends you on the form. Day of they showed up on time, called when they were close, and got to work immediately. They worked super fast and had me out of a high-rise elevator building and moved into a second floor walk up in like, literally 75 mins. So fast. Absolutely zero damages and they handled everything very carefully. They even disassembled my Ikea couch preemptively, assuming that it probably would not have fit up the stairs into my new place in one piece (they were probably right). They reassembled it perfectly and I really appreciated the forward thinking on their part to make sure we didn't run into any hiccups. 12/10 highly recommend, I've told all my NYC friends to use them whenever they move. I was moving my studio apartment less than 1mi up the street in Central Manhattan. I got quotes from about 10 different movers, recommended from Yelp, Google, Reddit, and friends. All of them were quoting me around $1,000 pre-tip (moving only, no packing service, no packing materials) and told me to reserve 6-7hrs for the move. Sven quoted me $600 and 3hrs max. I emailed many times, regarding my buildings' COIs and other forms/COVID policies, elevator situation, photos of my furniture, adjusting number of boxes, etc., and I always got timely and helpful responses. The morning of my move, Matt and team showed up as scheduled, 9am on the dot, masked up and ready. A quick look around and I was off to sit by the front of the moving truck making sure we wouldn't get ticketed. Within 1 hour, without me lifting a finger, everything was loaded and en route to my new building. In my new apartment, I simply pointed the movers to where I wanted everything placed, and they reaasembled/placed it all perfectly. No damage anywhere or to anything. Start to finish, just under 2hr15min! Zero extra fees or hidden charges, I paid exactly what was quoted to me (actually, with cash discount, only $565, a FAR CRY from all of those $1K quotes!). I was misquoted at the time of payment (Mover told me the amount I should be paying was less than what I was quoted due to the ease of the job, number of items, etc). They made it sound like they were cutting me a deal. I paid + tipped based on what the mover said my total was + the assumption that they were doing me a solid. I then get an email from the owner saying they are charing me $70 more on my card because their employees misquoted me. I was then shut down when I asked him to not charge my card due to the misquote by THEIR employee. Overall, movers were on time + quick but were not super careful with my belongings; Stuffing them in my storage unit, scratching wood pieces, failure to disassemble my bed, etc. It seemed as though they were more worried with getting the job done ASAP than with the care of my furniture. read more

I wish I could join the ringing chorus of happy customers. I really do. But I got so much attitude from one of the movers it turned my entire experience with them sour. I hate writing negative reviews on anything customer service related because I totally get it -- I've been there. But one guy was giving me so much grief because he was one hour early and I wasn't ready. We ended up starting 30mins before our set time. I felt bad because I originally thought it was a later time and they "tried to be nice" over the phone, so I rushed over to start. But all I heard was "you really f***ed us. WE also have lives, you know?!" As if moving wasn't hard enough, I'm getting drama from the movers. But I would like to note that they moved very quickly and promptly once I was there. Note: if you say two hours, they mean two hours. They will not help you any further and swing around for more items on another trip. This is fine because I understand how busy they are and I did pay for the minimum. I was just hoping I could add more time if needed. Lastly, they broke a few things and promises that they would put some things back together were not met. (At least they put my bed together... though it was dragged on the floor so make sure you have proper covering). The nicer mover of the two, Lucas, was very kind and tried to be pleasant as stressed as they were. So I really appreciate that. Other than the promptness, he was def a joy to work/coordinate with on the move. He made it that much better (thus the three stars instead of one or two). Even though the service wasn't great on all parts, I made sure to tip 20%. But deep down, they made me wish I wasn't so generous and tipped them like how they made me feel... I wasn't going to leave a review until I received an email from Sven Moving asking me to. My belongings did arrive at my new apartment in good condition BUT I feel we were a bit extorted. I estimated the number of boxes at a fairly high number (25) but chose to spread it into more small boxes thinking this would help the movers. Overall, it was still not much more than my estimate. Additionally, I forgot to include a small electrical heater that looks like a fireplace. Also, my dresser is sectional so I did not realize they counted that as 2 dressers. The mover in charge said because of these items he had to raise the stair fee from $30 to $90--3 times the original quote. I lived in a row house so we are talking about 1 small set of stairs like you would find in a house. There were also 3 men so the number of extra trips was divided by 3. We said we could only pay $75 so the mover said he would stop moving items and take what they had. In total, they left behind an entire van's worth of items and my husband and I had to borrow my landlord's van to finish moving. They also left behind parts to the furniture--bookcase shelves and couch legs--so they were unable to put the furniture together when they arrived. In the end, my husband still tipped them over 25% because it was a very cold day. In hindsight, I do not believe they deserved that much, especially because we paid for the 3-hour minimum but they rushed through to finish in 2 hours. They came on time, worked efficiently and took less time than originally planned. We would recommend Sven Moving for the smooth and affordable service. They also wore masks the entire time even though it was 90+ degrees. Helpful info: they charge you for the exact time - for example, they worked for 2h15min so they charged us 2.25 their hourly rate (we weren't sure if they would charge for the entire third hour). Moving is stressful. It's up there with divorce, loss of a job, and death in the family as one of the most miserable situations most people will face in their lifetime. Sven's moving has bailed me out of many situations, including emptying storages, apartments, and even a large venue with a level of professionalism and speed that put my mind at ease. These guys are great, the hourly rate means you don't get ripped off, yet they hustle anyway. Just be aware you need to give 2-3 hours of flexibility on the time as they seem to pack a lot of moves into the day so could end up running behind. But the number one thing, unlike so many movers they don't rip you off!!! read more

We used Sven for a move in late April amidst the Covid-19 quarantine. We were very pleased with their handling of our furniture and efficiency to get our things, load the truck and get out to limit the interaction with us. It was such a smooth move and not expensive at all. My advice for everyone is to be prepared for their arrival on moving day by having everything packed and ready to be loaded. It saves so much time when all they have to do is come in and do their job. I would highly recommend them again for local moves. read more
