I have heard great things about the donuts at Suzy- Jo Donuts. There is a mystique around this tiny donut shop in Royersford PA (they have three locations and they actually make the donuts at the Bridgeport location): 1. They open very early at 6AM. A line often forms before that. Those who know - know the best choices are very early. Note: closed Monday. Additional note : you might read some "Karen" like reviews spinning how crazy their hours are - or that they drove there and no donuts were left (an hour before they close). They are vERY clear that once the donuts are gone - they are gone. Lol. This is a part of the charm and frankly originality of this business. It's exclusive- if you don't go early you will have less of a choice and even risk the shop closing early because they are simply sold out!!! I LOVE that about this place. Hint: think ahead (get your butt out of bed early) - call ahead if it's later - they will gladly rattle off what's left. 2. They only stay open until they run out of donuts - or at Noon whichever comes first. Trust me when I tell you - get there as early as you can - otherwise you will be disappointed 3. The staff are lovely older ladies - always fast with a smile and a friendly good morning. It has the old school charm and atmosphere that is missing in chain donut shops. My favorite donuts are the white crème filled donuts. This is their signature donut filling ( they have custard filling and jelly filling and others too). They have what they call "Powdered Crème Filled Sticks" - they are amazing rectangle donuts stuffed full with this fluffy white crème. Imagine the flavor of the molten center of a roasted marshmallow meets whipped cream meets meringue. It's addicting and unique. My next favs are the chocolate topped white crème filled, followed by the white crème filled glazed. I was so excited to find a bakery shop that made fresh cream filled donuts. I purchased to "Cream Sticks, sugar Jelly donuts, and chocolate covered donuts. The ladys behind the counter were awesome and I give them a ten on service. i ended up very dissapointed, there was no, zero. maybe a little residue of cream in the "Cream Sticks" which was the whole reason I visited today. The Jellys were good and so were the chocolate donuts, but the dough used for all the donuts was way more dense then i like. Not as light and fluffy as i expected from a shop that makes donuts on site. The chocolate was also a little too rich for my taste. Besides a customer gawking at my fiance and I while we were getting donuts (have you ever seen tattoos?) this place was a great find. We were house-sitting in PA and on the way out wanted to get a treat for the road. Yelp led me here, and it did seem like it was in the middle of an average suburb. The store was quaint and pink and I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of options. These donuts are old-school, you aren't going to get fancier than maple bacon here. I got a box of 6 and it was under 7 bucks. That'll do. They were all solid but I was a bit bummed that my coconut custard donut actually just had coconut on top and the custard inside was plain. It still hit the spot, though. The lemon filling in the white-iced lemon was also sickeningly sweet, and I like sweet. I have heard the legend of this storied donut haven tucked away in a small strip mall in Royersford. They have limited hours : on the days open 6am - noon ( or until that day's supply are gone). How good could they be? I mean they are donuts .... What's so special? Well I finally made it over there around 9am today. A steady stream of customers came and went with box's of donuts. I stood salivating at the choices of fresh baked goodness lining the cases. So many choices / flavors / colors.... but I wanted something unique. I found it! Relying on a suggestion I chose the "Powdered Sugar Coated Crème Sticks" . Bright white, thick, straight as an arrow hefty sticks of dough ... filled to bursting w a silky almost marshmallow like vanilla crème. HEAVEN. Best donuts in the area in my opinion. Great variety: cherry cheesecake, chocolate, coconut, lemon... the choices are seemingly endless. There's a lot of Dunkin Donuts out here and Suzy-Jo is a great donut shop if you're not a fan of Dunkin's donuts. Been wanting to give this place a try and i finally made the excuse to buy a dozen on Fat Tuesday. They have a great selection of donuts. Within the dozen, i got some original glazed, a few sour cream, several chocolate peanut butter filled, chocolate frosting with sprinkles, a chocolate cake and a jelly filled. Out of them all, i think the original glaze was the best, chocolate peanut better filled was pretty good as well. I'm a chocolate icing with sprinkles guy and their isn't up to par with Maple Donuts' version. The chocolate cake donut was ok, it was moist and not dry. This morning, my 6 year old daughter & I went in to get the donuts we had heard such great things about, picked 5 for the fam including a glazed roll. It was like a cinnamon roll without the cinnamon. As soon as I got to the car I picked it up to share with My daughter and see a glaze covered fly/nat. As I didn't order a bug covered donut, I walked back in with the bag of 4 and calmly showed them the issue. The two women behind the counter looked at it and said to themselves it just have happened at the bakery. No apology to me at all. Only that they didn't have any more, and then they looked at me blankly. I calmly said I wanted to return them all. One woman responds that they were on two different shelves in the case, so why return all 4? I reminded her that she placed them all in the same bag. She was clearly upset at me and began shaking her head and rolling her eyes as she handed me the money. Both times we came here, it was between 11 and 12 and the donuts didn't seem all that fresh. They weren't outright stale but i expected them to be a bit softer. The service leaves much to be desired, we were treated like a complete inconvenience. We don't hem and haw over the selection either, so it wasn't that.
