Suzy-Jo Donuts has been making awesome round dough since 1955, all in the domain of one family, and they have been successful enough to open two more stores in Limerick and East Norriton, PA. The reason for their longevity is simple - they bake great donuts. These babies are very traditional cake style creations with heavy icing or glaze, that sit like sweet stones in the belly. You have to love this approach because there is no compromise. Even my bag of four (2 vanilla frosted, 2 plain glazed) felt like twice as many in the sack. Each one is a meal by itself, especially with a mugga joe to ease it down the pipe. The frosting is from that earlier era - thick, sweet and indescribably delicious. First bite took me on a memory to childhood with my grandmother in Washington Heights on a shopping walk when we'd stop at the butcher, green grocer and as a treat for me, the baker, where she'd buy me a donut, cupcake or cookie as reward for accompanying her. That Lucious white cap on those donuts registered so deep in my psyche that its recall still makes me salivate. So it was this day. I can't and don't indulge like this often, but I was thankful for the opportunity this time. Service was fine, and the dated time signature on the shop was yet another strong reason for visiting this stretch of 4th Street, Bridgeport, occasionally. Love this type of living anthropology with such sweet payoff.

Suzy-Jo has been on my go-try-list since moving to the area as I've seen it mentioned in a few Facebook groups. I came on a Thursday late morning and there weren't any of the famous Apple fritters unfortunately. The woman at the counter was very friendly and offered up suggestions. She even threw in an extra one because I was debating between two flavors. The donuts are huge and very filling. None of them really knocked my socks off, but they are good. I prefer simple donuts, and most of the ones available had a lot going on. If you're in the market for more gourmet, unique donuts this might not be the spot. If you're looking for a upgraded version of Dunkin-style flavors, these are a good swap (plus who doesn't love to support small businesses).

Stale and no one wanted to eat

Unfortunately, I threw out practically a dozen donuts that cost me $18. No one wanted them. They were hard. I bought them at 10 o'clock on Sunday morning not sure what's going on, but the donuts seemed really off and not fresh. I would welcome a refund or a new dozen.

TL;DR - worth the drive from the city! These donuts are great. I picked up 6 and they were the fan favorite of the night. I did a donut tasting (with rating sheets!) with some friends. We needed a fourth location and most of the usual city suspects are not open on Wednesdays. Suzy-Jo has good reviews and the Bridgeport location isn't a bad trip. The glazed was a very solid classic glazed donut. I'm a sucker for a blueberry donut and this hit the spot. The hard chocolate reminded me of a chocolate hostess in a very sweet nostalgic way. The vanilla with sprinkles and the chocolate frosted were classic yummy standard too. I will absolutely be back!

As I went there later in the day so it doesn't have many choices left.they do carry a variety of filled donuts. They also make customized giant donuts(order in advance),what a cool alternative for birthday cake.

If you looking for a sugar high. This is your place. Sugar with good taste. The filled donuts have a good portion of cream inside. They make them at that particular store fresh and they go very fast. The place is very clean and small but full of goodies

Yum, these donuts did not disappoint! I got half a dozen and my favorite was probably the boston creme. Friendly staff and reasonable prices. They have there own parking lot which is a plus. I went there at 9 AM on a Saturday morning and everything was in stock except apple fritters. I'll definitely be going back!

It's literally the last great donut shop. Cake , yeast , fritters. All crazy good. You can have your "Duck Donuts" or Founding Farmers., and DD they all pale in comparison. I've been going for over 39 years. I'm not sure how long they've been around. They open super early. Like 5:30. They run out early ., especially on Sundays. Forget it if you are not there by 11:00. Old school classic.

The best donuts in the area. I have searched for an authentic donut made from.scratch and this is the place. Today I stopped in for only three but left with four. I tried the donut with a cream cheese filling and it was worth every bite and calories. The donut was I also grabbed a chocolate frosted filled with white cream, a cake donut with white frosting and sprinkles, and a pumpkin with powdered sugar. On my next visit I need to try the pumpkin donut with cream cheese. There is a donut for everyone who loves donuts. All I will say is get there early to for the full selection especially on the weekends. They open during the week at 5:30 and I believe 7:30 on Saturday.

    The *ahem* "cream stick".

At the risk of being redundant here, Suzy Jo Donuts will basically ruin you for just about every other donut shop around. They're that good. Yes, even my beloved buttercream filled donut from Viking Pastries in Ardmore has just been downgraded. That is saying something, my friends. I stopped in this morning on my way to Jury Duty in Norristown. The shop itself looks just like every old school bakery you've ever been in. Not too fancy, not glitzy, warm and smelling of heaven. They have a very broad selection of donuts. I chose a powdered Bavarian Creme, Coconut and a Glazed, so I could get a broad sense of their offerings. Bavarian Creme was filled donut heaven. No icky artificial "creme". It was not overly sweet, great texture, enrobed by the donut cake. Coconut donut was likewise well balanced, great taste and flavor. Glazed was not soggy (a pet peeve), well sugared with a nice yeasty flavor. Service was friendly and prompt, prices were very reasonable as well. I'm told the cream rolls are popular, as are the cherry cream and chocolate covered Bavarian. I will definitely be back to sample these for the sake of all you Yelpers. It's a sacrifice, I know, one I am willing to make for the team.

The apple fritter is sweet, cakey, and about the size of a 5 year old child's head. Do I need to say more??

She's a ray of sunshine with such great customer service. She remembers me every time, and her energy is just unmatched. I might have to get her a pin that says Biscuit Pusher because she owns that title! The cashiers are friendly, management is attentive, and they genuinely want you to have a great experience. If there's ever an issue, they fix it right away. Tara, the owner, is amazing. Even when she's busy, she makes it a point to check on guests and ask how everything is going. She makes suggestions to make your biscuit sandwich selection go to another level. That level of engagement goes a long way. The quality of the biscuit is always on point. My only issue is that they tend to fall apart when you try to pick them up. I usually have to eat mine with a fork because they crumble so easily. I'd love if they could adjust the texture just a bit so they hold together better. If they did, they'd be perfect! If you haven't gone yet, get there. Let me know how your experience was. I'd love to hear.

Also had bubble tea and the mochi batter dipped fried hotdogs with several toppings . My mission was to get mochi donuts so I picked the 3 pack . Strawberry , matcha and Taro honey. I saved these for after dinner desert and I ate the strawberry mochi donut. Nice flavor but not as light and airy and chewy as Mochiatsu- Media and Mochi-Heaven -Upper Darby. I have to say the icing was 5stars compared to the icing else where with crunchy bits and honey drizzled on my taro mochi donut. They are also thicker - like Krispy Kreme thick size. 3 for 10 are not a Dunkin' bargain- but the quality, the thickness and size are worth it and fresh! I'll be back to try the mochi dog and bubble teas and cream puff. I'll eat my Matcha donut for breakfast and the taro after lunch . Added to my pit stop when in Conshy!!! So much to try ...such little time.
