I decided to try a Passionfruit juice blended w. milk (similar to a batido de maracuya) and selected an assortment of savory filled pastries. The gentleman was kind enough to heat them up for me before handing me my box of goodies to go! I feel terrible to report but these pastries never made it home, they didn't stand a chance! I really LOVED the chicken filled square pastry. It was wonderfully savory, moist and the exterior as buttery and flaky as one could ever desire! My fruit shake/smoothie was cold, tart and just the perfect pairing for these delicious treats. Also, DO NOT SLEEP on the side of ají verde sauce for dipping. It was DELISH! A wonderful community addition. If you enjoy supporting local, small business; owned and operated by kind people who go above and beyond to satisfy their patrons, give Abuela Mela a try. The only real downside of The Buttery is that when it was full at 11:30am the sound was very loud so we had to fairly shout at each other to be heard. When we left at 1pm and the restaurant was half full it was a much more reasonable sound level. Next time I go for lunch at The Buttery I'll go at 1pm when it's quieter and treat myself to a pastry!

The coffee is usually great, and I cringe at the stupidly large markups and just pay anyway, but this time was so bad I just can't ever come back. My coffee was an iced oat milk latte with no flavoring. Pretty simple. Had milk curdles all in it. Okay, whatever. Might ask for a new one, let's see how food comes out. Lady who very loudly asked me "WAS YOUR LATTE ICED OR HOT?" (weird) drops my açaí bowl on the table rather aggressively. Worth noting that when we talked in this woman yells "I'LL BE WITH YOU BOTH IN A MINUTE" and then rushes into the bathroom. Hungover maybe? Later overheard her saying that today was her last day. Guess we should have come tomorrow! Then my girlfriend's drink comes out. This is served in a glass, not a plastic like I got. How come they're in different cups? Both iced coffees, same order. Weird. This lady then proceeds to play with a customer's dog for a minute and a half while the only other two employees behind the counter are a manager and a trainee so everything is moving super slow. Girlfriend's food finally comes out. It's oatmeal, and it's COLD. At this point, I have to ask for my money back for that. K go to the front counter to tell the same lady what's wrong, and she just goes "WHAT'S UP?"- I tell her the oatmeal is wrong and then she says "I'm not the manager, I can't do that," instead of just gesturing or talking to her manager who was literally standing 3 feet away from her. Anyway, I get my money back from the manager, who profusely apologizes, then I sit outside with my latte and it's dripping everywhere since it's overfilled. Just wrong. The whole experience was wrong. And get this, people: a 16oz iced latte, a 12oz iced latte with an extra shot, a bowl of oatmeal, and a very small açaí bowl were FORTY-SIX DOLLARS. This place is SCAMMING YOU. Please go to 260 Bridge instead.

The bartender Bart was chill, didn't rush me and I chatted it up with several others who joined solo at the bar. I ended up sitting there for 2 hours enjoying the best steak frites (cooked medium) I've had to date. I started out with a deviled egg appetizer with bacon which was good, could have maybe used a little more flavor. Got the apple pie which came with a side of ice cream. The ice cream was delicious and so was the pie (which had Granny Smith apples inside). It came with a caramel drizzle which actually put it over the top. Could've done without the caramel since it was already really sweet.

So in the ensuing confusion we managed to find this little place and enjoyed the food. The experience was a bit lackluster, but nothing was bad, and I would still say if you're in the area, Santangelo's is definitely worth checking out as they offer classic breakfast staples at a reasonable price. Tucked away in Norristown behind where the old Conte Luna pasta factory used to be located, there is generous parking and both seating inside and some outside tables for when the weather is nice. This is the point where our visit ended up a bit rocky. My eighty year old godmother joined us for breakfast who uses a cane and has a very hard time with steps. The indoor seating here is divided into two floors, the second, up an extremely long set of stairs. When we were seated we were told upstairs was the only seating available and that the large table that would've seated our party of five downstairs was "reserved". Not one to cause any issues, she told us it was fine and we decided to go upstairs despite the issues getting up there and enjoyed our meal. However, upon finishing and coming back down to pay the bill, the table was still empty and there was no apparent reason that we could not have been seated there, saving an older woman with a disability much stress and difficulty. As for our meal, the food was good! As I had said before, breakfast classics with some unique takes. The scrapple that I ordered as a side with my waffle was absolutely outstanding. Cooked perfectly with a crisp outside and a piping hot yet creamy inside that all who are fans of this divisive Philly staple will know is the "right way". Our server was also very nice and definitely offset the seating debacle, and helped redeem the overall experience. If we are ever nearby for breakfast again, we will likely return and try some other items. I was a bit upset they no longer have the meatball omelet, which sounded crazy and amazing, but maybe one day it will be back! Again, if you are in the area or live close, give Santangelo's a try and decide for yourself!
