Visited Spring Mill Café on a Sunday during brunch hours with my significant other, and despite it being a little crowded (understandably so), we had a lovely experience. The restaurant itself is super cute and cozy, with a welcoming atmosphere. Our waiter was knowledgeable, friendly, and very attentive. Service was impressively quick, especially for a busy brunch. I had the zucchini omelette with goat cheese on the side--it was fresh, flavorful, and satisfying. The side potatoes had a nice crisp to them, and the chocolate croissant was a standout: freshly made, perfectly flaky, and well-balanced in sweetness. Amazing. We have dined at the Spring Mill Cafe several times over the years and it never disappoints. The location is off a side road in Conshohocken - so if you want to go somewhere off the beaten path but not far from the Main Line, without going into the city, it's perfect. The restaurant is located in a charming house with cozy French decor and old mill items; our table was next to an original kerosene pump that still works (not pumping kerosene but the mechanism works). French music plays in the background but it's not too loud for us to hear our dinner conversation, and there are cozy nooks where you might be seated for more privacy. Tonight we had the beet salad, the chicken liver mousse pate, the duck confit, pork chop, side of asparagus, and the chocolate mousse and the chocolate tarte for dessert. EVERYTHING WAS a 5** I would go back again and again for that duck confit, it was so delicious, and perfectly matched with generous chunks of sausage and white beans to accompany it. So here we are sitting in a town we can't pronounce (Conshohocken) staring at a menu written in a language we don't understand. Suddenly, I can decipher a familiar string of letters u_c_k and do a double-take... d_u_c_k ... absolutely my favorite game bird and suddenly, all is right with the world. Damn, I really liked dinner at Spring Mill Cafe, a country French charmer that not only served the aforementioned crispy, delectable mallard but grilled octopus and a melt in your mouth filet mignon elevated even further by an excellent mushroom reduction. Ya know, the place ain't cheap but it fully delivers on the price point, providing rustic coziness and immaculate service - all without the surprise landmines on your bill that are becoming much too prevalent such as credit card and health care surcharges. The setting of the restaurant is beautiful with a few tables outside as wells many indoors. The Country French atmosphere inside is very comfortable, with all the staff very friendly. Our server, who's name I regrettably can't remember, was informative and fun. There were four of us so we got a chance to sample many of the items on the menu. For appetizers we enjoyed: ` Escargots en Brioche. Snails, garlic, butter and parsley over house baked brioche. Beautifully plated as well as delicious. The Pate' Tasting, included 3 different types / a Loaf style pâté of chicken, pork, ham, hazelnuts and dried fruit, wrapped in bacon / a chicken liver mousse with black truffle / and a Duck Rillette. All were delicious, but the Rilette and chicken liver mousse were outstanding. It was served with baguettes, whole grain mustard, and cornichons and was enough for all of us to sample. And last but not least, the very good Wild Mushroom Soup with Croutons. For Entrees we had: The Cassoulet Toulousain. In my opinion, this was the "winner" of the night. The Stony Hill Farm duck leg was cooked perfectly and had a delicious combination of white beans, sausage, pork, thyme, garlic, and a bread crumb topping. The Bronzino Fillet over a Pepper Risotto with tender Asparagus was well seasoned and rich in flavor. We were slightly disappointed with the other two entrees. The Braised Rabbit in a Burgundy, Brandy, and Prune Reduction with button mushrooms lacked the flavors that the sauces promised. This was also what we thought of the Chicken Tajine, which overall was on the dry side. There was little to no sauce on the dish except for the fiery hot harissa which could only be used sparingly. We tried 4 different desserts and each was delicious. With 2 coffees, before tip, the bill per couple was around $135. A very reasonable amount for the overall quality of the meal. Super sweet spot on the outskirts of Philly. We came here on a lovely spring day and had the prix fixe brunch. For $33 you get to choose from a nice selection of appetizers and entrees. The salads are inventive with fresh ingredients and the entrees range from typical breakfast fare to their well-known Belgian waffles and steak frites. My fellow guests leaned breakfast with the egg skillet while I went savory with the rack of lamb. Lovely flavors and presentation all around. Great experience overall getting dinner delivered! Before ordering, I had called in to ask about gluten-free options, and they have a lot of them, which is great! For dinner, we got the pork chop and the duck á l'orange, with a side of roasted Brussels sprouts, and for dessert we ordered the chocolate mousse, flourless orange cake, and macarons. We ordered dinner on Caviar, and delivery was seamless and convenient. Each dish came in its own plastic container, and they put the mousse and vanilla ice cream that came with the cake in takeaway cups, which I thought was clever. All the food tasted great! The Brussels sprouts were nicely charred but still springy, and the entrees were tasty as well. I had the duck, which had very nice crispy skin and tender meat. We also enjoyed the desserts, especially the chocolate mousse! The flourless cake was tasty for the most part, but we did find toward the end that there was a chunk of baking soda that hadn't dissolved into the mix, so that was a bit of an unpleasant surprise. The macarons were a mix of flavors, and my favorite was probably the coffee one. Overall, nice experience, and I would order from them again in the future! read more

A gem of Conshohocken. Off the beaten path, homey and warm. A farmhouse feel with exceptional service. I sat outside and although it was chilly, they turned on the heat lamp to keep us comfy. The table was gorgeous. Stained glass and colorful. We started with the large cheese board. I had fish for dinner and ended with spiced orange cake. The cheese variety was delicious and I enjoyed them all equally. The fruit was fresh and there was a nice variety. I wish the cheese pieces were a bit larger, I felt that they were pretty small for two people to share. My fish was cooked perfectly. Over sweet potatoes with crunch kale. I wish there were more sweet potatoes. I normally do not get dessert and I definitely am not a cake eater. I was compelled to try the spiced orange cake and it did not disappoint. For many many years now, the food is superb, the service is amazing, and It always feels like someone invited you for dinner at this place. We had our small, non-traditional wedding (17 guests) here and had an excellent experience! There are 2 options - renting out the restaurant or renting out the barn. We rented the barn and loved it! It felt so intimate and special. The food is fabulous. Loved the duck a l'orange and the corn bisque! They have a partnership with Frosted Fox, who made us a gorgeous and delicious cake as part of our package. The servers are awesome, so friendly and accommodating. Ezra, the owner, is great to work with. And I think the rental fees and costs per person are incredibly reasonable. Have not been here in 30 years. What a delightful experience for brunch. Our brunch selections were enjoyable tasty and even eye applying. My husband had a appetizer of pate which was wonderful. I had the grilled corn & tomato salad on a bed of baby spinach with a drizzle of balsamic reduction good combination. My husband was disappointed in the size of the eggs for the Benedict but the hollandaise sauce was perfect. I had the Belgian waffles with blueberries & maple syrup which had a spice in them I could not identify but made them the best I've ever tasted. The owner is gracious and sophisticated while being accommodating and warm. Our waiter was wonderful. We had the duck rilettes, and autumn salad for starters and duck breast, white bass for main courses. Everything was delicious and perfectly prepared. I've always heard wonderful things about this place. I finally went on my 8th wedding anniversary. It's quaint, cozy, and romantic. I love the ambiance. We ordered the escargot and pate to start. The escargot wasn't served in the typical escargot dish, but still plenty delicious. You can't go wrong with pate. For our entrees, we order the brown butter cod and the lapin a la moutarde. Oh my, the lapin was divine. I could not stop eating it and I didn't even order it. I will admit it made the fish seem not as flavorful, even though the fish was perfectly cooked, but the lapin is something I still think about even a couple of months later. We ended with my favorite, creme brulee. The service is top-notch. It's fancy without being pretentious. It's great for special occasions. I look forward to my next visit. read more

We have been celebrating birthdays and other occasions at the Spring Mill Cafe for several years. We always loved the atmosphere, it looks like a French restaurant in the French provinces, and the food was reasonable both in taste and in price. This time, I have to give many thanks to our waiter, he was great. On the down side, we had noticed that the quality of the food was less memorable the last few times. This time was no better, we had average charcuterie and very fatty salmon terrine. The filet mignon and pork chops came with a few slices of soggy potatoes or mashed potatoes, nothing else, not much taste, very forgettable. The desserts (lemon cake and chocolate cake) were good. However, the prices have come up at least 30% over the last 2 years- this is now a very expensive endeavor, even without wine (it is a BYOB) and with tap water. Unfortunately, at this point, the disadvantages overtake the advantages. What a pity... read more

If you want real French food visit Birchrunville Cafe or La Maison in the burbs. There are several in Philly also, however with all the gun violence in Philly anymore, we choose to stay away. The gentleman that's seats you & runs the place has no personality whatsoever. As for the food I really don't understand the positive reviews. Maybe the chef called out sick and the bus boy was cooking? Stay away from the escargot and dessert with puff pastry. Literally raw dough. A filet mignon for $58!!! It was the size of a sausage. I could even go to a high end steak house and get something much much better. $200 per couple is outrageous for this meal. With an elegant ambiance, Spring Mill Cafe truly embodies the best of suburban Philadelphia's dining scene. Offering a twist on authentic French cuisine, the perfectly sized dining options, delectable taste, and all-around perfect service makes coming here truly an experience. My favorites here are definitely the Escargot starters they offer (the menu is rotated seasonally, so you could get a soup or a bruschetta-style serving) and the braised rabbit. The escargot is perfectly seasoned and served in a beautiful presentation, and the rabbit is quite tender and the taste permeates the entire dish with well-chosen pairings on the side. The interior is what really astounded me though. Like the interior of a well-decorated home, you could be seated on cushioned seats with a bookshelf full of French cuisine books behind you or in a private corner surrounded by unique trinkets that you couldn't find at a larger restaurant. One note though is that the location is relatively obscure and quite easy to miss when driving, so convenience isn't as high as I would have preferred, but that doesn't detract from the other aspects of Spring Mill. Before coming here though, make sure to book a reservation! They do not have much seating (or parking for that matter), so plan ahead and book via OpenTable. Spring Mill Cafe is a romantic BYOB tucked away in a Conshohocken nook. Their charming decor is peppered with vintage artifacts of a bygone era. Walking in is almost like visiting France. (In fact, the owner grew up there.) A friend and I dined here one Friday. We managed to find the place without getting too lost, and their large parking lot was a welcome treat. Besides folks dining on their patio, it wasn't terribly crowded. Dinner was a pleasure. Our server (Nicolleta) was attentive, anticipating our needs, keeping us happy. Our appetizers (ah, escargot!) and entrees were savory, countrified French fare, on par with other Gallic places I've been, and worth the price. My rabbit was a little dry, but tasty, and seasoned just right. My friend enjoyed her dish too. Good company, good cooking, and good service, what's better than that? Can't wait to try their brunch service! Recommended, and worth a trip to the suburbs - they're a short walk from the Spring Mill train stop. P.S. Everything was presented well and delicious ! Generally Love this restaurant atmosphere and the service. We were able to talk and not feel rushed. One caveat, ... we asked for extra bread pieces to enable us to finish our cheese plate (definitely not enough was provided with the plate).. and saw on the check that an extra charge of $2.50 was added for that. Finally made it to spring mill Café. Been wanting to get here for a couple years. Glad we finally did! What a lovely little place. Great atmosphere. Quiet, understated but elegant. Felt like eating at my French grandmothers house if i had one and she were an excellent cook. Everything was excellent, from the escargot de Bourgogne to the Benedict, from the gazpacho to the Lapin d'alsace a la moutarde, from the omelette to the trout amandine. Not one dish was anything but very good. Service was excellent. Accommodating, but unobtrusive. Responsive and caring. The young gentleman that headed up our service was well versed in food and passionate about the place he worked. We felt at home and at ease and really enjoyed the meal. I'm happy we chose your establishment to celebrate our occasion! Thanks for helping to make my folks 50th anniversary brunch special. We'll definitely have to join you for dinner sometime! read more

How else can I say YUM about the coulibiac ($26, salmon filet in pastry with a dill sauce, served with seasonal vegetables) that I ordered?!? The salmon was moist and the dill sauce that accompanied was not overbearing at all...perfect. Even my left-overs heated up well later. Three of my favorite girlfriends and I met up at the BYO with plenty of wine and a bottle of champagne to celebrate a birthday. We weren't sure what to expect but pleasantly surprised to find it was a delicious night! The room caters to a smaller crowd of patrons and is perfect for a weeknight visit. Bookshelves and plain decor create a homelike appeal. It felt like dinner in a living room atmosphere but all the cooking and clean up is done behind scenes. If you want to get cozy with a loved one, make your reservation because this is an ideal place for you both. For appetizers we all picked at a cheese plate with fruit. Also, one friend chose the paté tasting with shredded pork and duck, chicken liver paté, and country paté. My one girlfriend had never had a cheese plate before, which is absolutely crazy to me since I LOVE cheese plates so dang much. There were plenty of grapes, apples and the right amount of cheese for 3 of us sharing it. The waitress gladly brought us extra bread for our cheeses. As for my friend, well she's sold on ordering cheese plates from now on. My "french" friend insisted we all eat from her paté plate, not bad at all. Service was by one waitress who worked the entire room. She was always on top of her game, allowed us to hang out and didn't rush us out the room after we paid our bill. Just a suggestion but when you are having a private party and not open, a sign on the front door would be helpful so your customers who come for brunch and walk in to the restaurant not knowing you are closed, are treated so rudely that they will never return. read more

My partner and I went today, for Valentines Day, and had an amazing time! We were so excited to be able to dine-in because outdoor seating is insufferable with all the snow we've gotten recently. They followed ALL CDC guidelines! We have been social distancing for so long it felt nice to have a good time outside of the home. They had a special Valentines menu, it was $70 a person but I feel like it was a good deal for the amount of food we were given. Also, it's BYOB so that was a plus. We had a great 'Potato Leek Soup' to start, my partner said yes to the oyster but I'm not a big fan of sea food. They brought fresh warm bread and warm butter, as well. Then we each had a 'Bibb Lettuce Salade' that was filled with fresh ingredients and the poached pears and bucheron goat cheese were super tasty. We both decided on the filet mignon for our appetizers - it literally melted in my mouth. For dessert I chose the macaroons and my partner went with cake. All the ingredients for all of the meals were of impecable quality. All in all we had a great time and the service was perfect! Will definitely return again. read more
