Calamari Fra Diavolo
Keith W.

I've been here a lot and can always count on a good meal. I started with an Aperol Spritz and a Bellini. The calamari is always cooked perfectly. I also had salmon with risotto and a side of asparagus. Over all a very good meal. Decent service and it was nice to sit outside

Veal Vitello con Prosciutto

Celebrated with my girlfriend's family at this location on Sunday and this beautifully decorated restaurant exceeded my expectations. A fine dining romantic vibe with multiple specials offered to further complicate your selection process as the menu options were nothing to shake a stick at either. I narrowed my final options being that between the homemade lobster, scallop, salmon, shrimp raviolis, the orange roughly with crabmeat, and the veal con prosciutto. Ultimately, I landed on the veal con prosciutto and this dish did not disappoint. The veal absolutely melted in your mouth. They used a fontina cheese and prosciutto to top it off. The girlfriend went with the tuna that was lightly blackened and we both agreed was sushi grade tuna that was some of the best tuna we ever had. We brought in two bottles of wine and surprisingly were not charged a corking fee as they have their own bar. My opinion is depending on who serves you, you may incur a corking fee. I did not plan on having desert but the offerings for dessert included a peanut butter cheesecake and by God this was marvelous. I split this with my girlfriend's father, so I did not have to feel too guilty by ingulfing the whole thing. This restaurant is known for some homemade pasta dishes but with the multitude of fish options and other dishes it's hard for me to choose the pasta as my main. I see myself coming back here with a large party so we can all share a bite of each other's meals. Will report back after my next visit. As always people SYOY!!!

My husband and I dined at the old Ristorante Castello about 10 years ago, so I was shocked to see the gorgeous update in the new space. The decor is modern and calming, as well as being nice and open. They have a beautiful outdoor area as well, and a bar that opens to the indoor and outdoor spaces. On a warm night this would be a perfect spot! There was live music in the bar area, which did make the whole restaurant very loud. We were told it was not a busy night, even though the restaurant was crowded, so I can't imagine it on a busy night. Our waiter was clearly experienced, knew the menu well, and was able to make good recommendations. He did get confused when dropping off our packaged leftovers, and was very apologetic. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time and the courses were well paced. The food was excellent. The last time we were here I remember thinking it was one of those spots old people come to, where the food is just ok, but they have been coming forever. Last nite the food was excellent. The portions were generous, everything was well cooked, and the menu had a great variety. The may be the best gnocchi I've ever had, and the calamari was probably in the top 3 of all time I would absolutely dine here again Food: 5/5 Ambiance: 5/5 Value: 4/5 Service: 4/5

We started off with Paper Planes (Bourbon, Amaro, Aperol, Lemon) at the bar. For dinner, carpaccio to start, followed by a rib eye and lamb chops with a great Montepulciano. A lovely dinner!

Tucked away in an office complex set back a distance from Skippack Pike, Ristorante Castello might easily be passed by without notice. The only hint of its presence, a wisp of blue & white awning... In my capacity as a professional "hired belly," however, I've discovered that hard-to-find restaurants are usually well worth finding - and Ristorante Castello appears to be no exception. Stop by for a quiet weekend lunch in a nearly empty dining room, and you'll think the place hadn't been found at all... On the other hand, drop in on a free-for-all Saturday night, as our party of six did recently (the former Fine Arts bowling team and their significant others), and you'll get a much clearer picture. The night of our visit, the place was, quite literally, packed to the gills. And the reason for its popularity quickly becomes clear: The northern Italian cuisine is carefully prepared and nicely presented; the prices, while not inexpensive, are certainly reasonable given the quality of the food; and the service, even in the midst of such mayhem, acquits itself with suitable distinction. In addition, patrons may tote along a vintage(s) of their own choosing, which certainly puts a less significant dent in one's pocketbook. To start things off, diners encounter a host of seafood suspects - mussels/clams/calamari fra diavolo, oysters Rockefeller & Blue Point - as well as salads of spinach, Caesar and caprese. In this case, though, I think I'd opt for the more traditional Italian preludes... bruschetta, for instance. The restaurant's homemade bread is grilled, then brushed with olive oil and topped with fresh roma tomatoes, basil & olive oil. This is a relatively simple dish, a no-brainer, if you will... but a lot can still go wrong. Insufficient seasoning is a major culprit. Or if prepared too soon, the entire enterprise can degenerate into a soggy mess. On the other hand, if the bread is a bit too crisp & crunchy, it could crumble into oblivion at the very first bite and send a shower of diced tomatoes, et al., cascading into your unsuspecting lap. Fortunately, Castello's benchmark rendition prompts no such worries. The Carpaccio di manzo is another sure winner. This is a typical Italian dish consisting of beautifully arranged raw, wafer-thin slices of filet mignon. It was invented and popularized by Giuseppe Cipriani, founder of Harry's Bar in Venice, and named after Venetian painter Vittore Carpaccio. The beef is served with olive oil, lemon and, in this case, garnished with basil leaves and shaved parmesan cheese. If you are incurably carnivorous, this is a marvelously tasty starter. La parmigiana - layers of Italian eggplant and fresh tomato sauce topped with fresh mozzarella and finished in the oven - is basically a fancy name for mini eggplant parm. It wasn't the greatest variation on this Neapolitan theme I've ever tasted, but still quite good... and a very comforting starter on a cold winter's night. Ristorante Castello's pastas, which are available in both appetizer and entrée portions, are also worthy of consideration. Possibilities run the gamut... from penne pomodoro with red, pink, or vodka sauce to homemade potato gnocchi with gorgonzola to farfalle with diced salmon to ravioli stuffed with either vegetables or a combo of lobster, shrimp & scallops in vodka sauce. Two dishes, sampled during that aforementioned quiet weekend lunch, however, were particularly enjoyable. The first was an excellent fettuccini Bolognese, eggless pasta smothered in a rich meat & tomato sauce infused with a touch of cream. But even better, in my opinion, was the Linguini Siciliano. Perfectly cooked al dente pasta was tossed with a winning combo of sautéed sliced mushrooms and crumbles of grilled sausage kissed by garlic and splashes of olive oil. From what I've noted in several visits, when it comes to dinner entrées , the kitchen's daily specials - both pesce and carne - are clearly the way to go here. And the accompaniments of luscious au gratin potatoes and mixed vegetable medley are an added bonus. The Dover sole, served up with a traditional caper lemon-butter sauce was good but not exceptional. I much preferred the baked branzino, also known as Mediterranean sea bass (pictured). The flesh was firm yet incredibly moist and bursting with flavor. This dish is a winner in every respect and reason enough for a return visit. For confirmed carnivores, the sumptuous veal chop, another daily special, is something of a must. Incredibly tender, perfectly seasoned, and completely free of excess fat and/or gristle, this presentation was clearly a table favorite. To my way of thinking, veal is the acid test for Italian kitchens... and Ristorante Castello clearly passes with flying colors. Desserts, if you still have room, vary daily and are well worth considering. And be sure to wash them down with a shot of rich & potent espresso.

This restaurant is absolutely gorgeous! Comfortable, elegant, and tastefully decorated for the holidays, our Christmas Eve dinner was delightful. We made reservations for a table, but opted to dine at the bar instead. I think that was a smart choice because with two dinner seatings, I think we may have felt rushed. But, not at the bar! They offered a special Christmas Eve menu and while limited, the options and price points varied so there was something for everyone. Began with a cocktail (blackberry bourbon) and the caesar salad, then the bartender paired my spicy crab pasta dish with the montepulciano. Perfect pairing. Generous chunks of fresh crab and the pasta was light and delicious. Finished with a peanut butter and chocolate cheesecake. Overall, a delightful evening. Cheers!

We came to celebrate Valentine's Day and had a wonderful evening! The ambiance made for a beautiful dinner. We enjoyed the dim lighting mixed with the unique interior design. The wood elements are gorgeous! We opted not to get an appetizer, but thoroughly enjoyed the bread with pesto and oil. The pesto had amazing flavor- a pasta dish with their pesto would probably be amazing! We both enjoyed a cocktail (not pictured)- blood orange martini, and a paper plane. Both were delicious, but a bit more expensive than we expected ($16 each). Despite it being a rather busy Saturday evening, our food came out pretty quick! Both of our meals were delicious and left us wishing we had more to enjoy again! Definitely on the more expensive side for two but worth the price!

We had the best dinner last night ! Best staff (Josephine is the best)! Great drinks great food and great music!

We went for dinner on Valentine's Day and it was a delight! The menu was lovely, the food was delicious, and I loved the atmosphere! We sat at the bar right by the live performer, which was very fun! I will say, we arrived 10 minutes early for our reservation and got a (delicious) cocktail at the bar while we waited for a table in the main dining area to open up. After about 40 minutes at the bar, no one came to get us for a table. We opted to sit in the bar area at one of the high tops because we were hungry (and those tables were first come first served, as opposed to being able to reserve them) and the bartender ended up being the one who served us all night (and did a great job!). This did not detract from our time or experience at all, and it was very busy, but I will mention it because this may be something that would bother someone else. But again, 5 stars!!!!

Ristorante Castello on Skippack Pike in Blue Bell, is a beautifully imagined high ceiling exposed beam house with live entertainment, nice bar, good service, focusing on Italian cuisine. We were there for an office dinner celebrating a good year with great people, including our "plus-1s." The first hour was appetizers and drinks. Bruschetta and Calamari Fritti graced our tables as we interacted and got comfortable. The apps were good and an auspicious beginning. The second hour was a sit down dinner from a limited menu selected in advance. Service was timely and unobtrusive. Drinks refilled quickly. My Padron Margarita on the Rocks, no salt, hit the right tone throughout the evening. I chose the Chicken Marsala and Caesar Salad. My table mates went with the Eggplant Parmigiana. I was a little disappointed with dinner. Maybe because we were a lot of people, but the meal felt more like mass produced banquet fare, rather than individually panned and plated high quality cheffing. My chicken was over cooked and dry. The mushrooms were small portobellos(?) with strong flavor and some toughness. The Marsala wine reduction poured over everything was thicker than it should have been like it had simmered down too long. My neighbors weren't enthused with their eggplant either. I inquired, and was told that although thin sliced, some of it was tough, and not edible. Apparently, although baked, it was not lightly breaded, nor panned in olive oil for more softness and enhanced taste. There was no breading either, although that was not unusual. They just didn't eat much of it. On the upside, that left more room for dessert, which in this case were small cannoli and double expressos (without lemon peel). No complaints there. No need to hurry back, although apres-work cocktails would be nice.
