Santangelo's Cafe was an interesting find. We had initially booked brunch somewhere for the morning we went here, but the other venue had to push our date because of availability. So in the ensuing confusion we managed to find this little place and enjoyed the food. The experience was a bit lackluster, but nothing was bad, and I would still say if you're in the area, Santangelo's is definitely worth checking out as they offer classic breakfast staples at a reasonable price. Tucked away in Norristown behind where the old Conte Luna pasta factory used to be located, there is generous parking and both seating inside and some outside tables for when the weather is nice. This is the point where our visit ended up a bit rocky. My eighty year old godmother joined us for breakfast who uses a cane and has a very hard time with steps. The indoor seating here is divided into two floors, the second, up an extremely long set of stairs. When we were seated we were told upstairs was the only seating available and that the large table that would've seated our party of five downstairs was "reserved". Not one to cause any issues, she told us it was fine and we decided to go upstairs despite the issues getting up there and enjoyed our meal. However, upon finishing and coming back down to pay the bill, the table was still empty and there was no apparent reason that we could not have been seated there, saving an older woman with a disability much stress and difficulty. As for our meal, the food was good! As I had said before, breakfast classics with some unique takes. The scrapple that I ordered as a side with my waffle was absolutely outstanding. Cooked perfectly with a crisp outside and a piping hot yet creamy inside that all who are fans of this divisive Philly staple will know is the "right way". Our server was also very nice and definitely offset the seating debacle, and helped redeem the overall experience. If we are ever nearby for breakfast again, we will likely return and try some other items. I was a bit upset they no longer have the meatball omelet, which sounded crazy and amazing, but maybe one day it will be back! Wanted to go out for breakfast over the weekend and was looking for something new. Have always passed by Santangelos but have never dined there. This definitely seems like a place for regulars. Sat down, no menu given (there were 2 tables in the place at the time). The noise level is at maximum every second. The owner knows everyone so she never shuts up. 45 minutes - no one checked on us, no refills on coffee/water. Pricing was average. Table had crumbs on it when we sat down. After reading several reviews I choose Santangelo's as it was on the way to the movie theater. Well everyone is different, I found the food and service average. Basically the staff does what they need to in order to serve you a meal, no more and nothing less! I was not offered a refill of coffee but I was given napkins when I asked. It could be the restaurant has it's 'base' of regular customers that order during the week. The restaurant is located on a lot of labor businesses who I'm sure stop in every day Monday through Friday. So not much to loose Saturday and Sunday! The restaurant is two levels, small but basically neat. After placing my order I received my food promptly. The home fries are more like roasted potato cubes, good but nothing to speak of not traditional home fries. My 'one' scrambled egg and kielbasa was less than room temperature almost cold. Watch out the pancakes are huge so one should do with eggs and meat unless you are a hungry man and they have that too! The pancake was tasty. If you live in the area Santangelo's will do the trick but if not, your local jawn will do! read more

We love grabbing breakfast here. Such a good spot that I highly recommend. The cheesesteak omelette is *chef's kiss* - I ordered it with egg whites and it was still fantastic. Santangelo's Cafe is a down to earth example of creative adaptive reuse of old urban factories, this one in Norristown, PA. It is a tiny place with entry around the back of the large red brick structure, requiring attention to signs on the street directing where it is hidden. Plenty of parking back there. This family run breakfast, brunch & lunch joint has been going for 15 years, and the siblings certainly know how to work together. They are friendly and justly proud of what they do in the community. I sat at the six stool counter overlooking the small kitchen. Although a curtain separates customer view from flying spatula, the sounds of breakfast making are easily heard and entertaining. Coffee was decent, and my ask for milk over Mini Moos, graciously met. Unfortunately, it took too long to get a refill, as the curtain blocked the staff view of customers, and the floor person was obliviously attached to her phone. Yet, the short stack french toast was very good. Nice egg, vanilla and cinnamon mix for dipping, and good caramelization. Overall, Santangelo's is a strong find on the post industrial streets of Norristown. A little polish on customer service would elevate this earnest cafe to a higher level to match the quality of its menu. read more

What a nice breakfast. Had to make a reservation even for outside on a Saturday. Friend had sausage , hash browns and eggs. I had the same with a bagel. The sausage is yummy grilled Italian sausage. (Great idea!!) Got a side of kielbasa. Now that is a great treat at breakfast. Good coffee . Excellent service. Super cheap. Hooray!!! $23 for the two of us. I highly recommend. I was looking up a good brunch or breakfast spot in bluebell before I headed back to nyc yesterday. I came across Santangelo's on yelp and decided to head there for breakfast. Upon arrival we saw the cash only sign and prayed that they had an atm inside. They did. When I walked in, I felt like I walked into a random house during thanksgiving dinner. That's how intimate this restaurant is. There was a bubbly women working the front and two guys cooking/ bussing tables. Then there was an old guy struggling to wash dishes in the kitchen area. This old guy was hand washing plates and then carrying them by bear hugging the clean plates onto his dirty shirt. I later saw him drying the eating utensils with a dirty rag that was half white, half blue-black. The staff was friendly, but they kept wiping their hands on their dirty aprons, and touching their nose, and dirty hats which is a pet peeve of mine. I mean in a restaurant that small where I can literally see you preparing my food, please try to be more hygienic. With that being said... the food was good. My Waffle was clearly over done. But I really enjoyed my homes-fries and my daughter enjoyed her pancake. I probably wouldn't come back here though. They had cold deliveries like eggs and cheese just sitting on the floor in the corner which is a health code violation. read more

We are from NJ but found this gem. It is like your grandmas kitchen! The food is out of this world and the portions are huge!! Maurice was our server, and he was absolutely wonderful. His energy is amazing, you can overhear him making the kids laugh at the next table and keeps all the customers laughing as well. Good people here and a great business. The staff here is always nice. It is a good place to go out for breakfast/lunch. Food is good and reasonably priced and restaurant is always clean. This is our new all-time favorite breakfast place. It's tucked away in the back of a nondescript building and the interior is definitely no-frills, but the breakfast is phenomenal. They somehow make pancakes the size of large pizzas that are cooked evenly. I usually get the veggie omelet because they don't just throw some watery tomatoes in there and call it a day, they treat you right with the spinach, mushrooms, peppers, onions, all that. It's Saturday and your grandma just called to ask where your taking her on your brunch date... little does she know, you haven't put nearly enough thought into the date and you tell her it's a surprise... You drive your beautiful grandma to what looks like a t shirt factory, drive around back, and walk her into Norristown's best kept secret. Upon arrival, you and grandma are greeted by two charming waitress and seated at the closest table (grandmas legs don't work like they used to so this comes as a huge bonus). You sit and are waited on like royalty - service just doesn't get better than Santangelos. Eventually, you order cinnamon raisin French toast for the young lady and a veggie omelette for yourself. Your pleased to find that both items are not only appetizing but reasonably priced. After finishing the meal, your beautiful date tells you how much she enjoyed herself. Success! We discovered this hole-in-the-wall diner on the way to a wedding. It had a lot of good reviews, so we figured it was worth stopping by! (The choices in Norristown are limited!). Overall, the food experience was great (4 star) - great breakfast food (I mean, you can't really screw up 2 eggs over-medium, toast and sausage). The homemade Italian sausage was AMAZING, btw, and totally worth ordering (really well seasoned with cumin seed, herbs, etc and delicious)! However, the customer service was really slow (despite having 2 open tablets). We waited for 20 minutes while they "cleared" these empty, dirty tables. It was so slow my husband wanted to leave and walk out, and I started getting paranoid that we weren't being seated b/c we were an inter-racial couple (and I'm normally not that paranoid!). Every once in a while, you come upon a restaurant with food that is so good, and is owned by people that are so nice, that you want share it with everyone. Santangelo's is that place. I have been dining here for several years now and have always enjoyed, or should I say raved about the food. The best description of their menu would have to be "Italian Inspired and Regionally Appropriate." Owners Mike Santangelo and his lovely wife (whose name I can't remember right now) started the business a couple of blocks away from their current address. The old place was small, holding maybe fifteen people, and was always packed. Their new location is behind an office building on Main Street in Norristown. It has a beautiful open kitchen, a second level, and alfresco dining. The menu is unique, and the specials board is truly one of a kind. I highly recommend the Italian omelette and the Meat Lovers breakfast zep/hoagie for breakfast. For lunch try the roast pork with provolone and rabe. We went for breakfast because I heard it was good and of the good reviews. Unfortunately it was a disappointment. I ordered a waffle and a piece of scrapple. The scrapple was cooked nice but the flavor was mediocre at best. The waffle... again it looked to be cooked very nice, loaded it up with butter and syrup, I shit you not it was the blandest thing ever! I couldn't taste the butter, syrup, or the waffle. I thought maybe my taste buds were messed up but nah I could taste the coffee just fine. My buddy got an omelette with a hair in it but said otherwise that and the potatoes were good. Server was nice but we will not be back. Also, the place smelled a little weird. Maybe just from starting the gas burners first thing but damn vent that crap. read more

I had the banana split waffles without the ice cream the first time we went, and the funnel cake French toast the second time, both were amazing. What more can be said? I have found the perfect breakfast restaurant. I have always been a fan of food shows on TV, such as 'Man versus Food' or 'Diners drive-ins and dives'. I'm always envious when they show a place not in our area that serves a huge breakfast, or some type of contest where you get your name on the wall if you consume the entire meal. I will put Santangelo's belly buster omelette in the same category as these meals. Huge portion, with every imaginable tasty breakfast ingredient. The peppers and onions were flavored perfectly. Sausage, bacon ham and delicious eggs comprise an amazing breakfast meal. I ordered a side of scrapple which was also a nice sized portion. Small mom and pop cafe in an industrial type center off the grid kind of. THIS IS NOT THE BEST BREAKFAST IN MONTCO! Pancakes were dull, the syrup was ... idkwtf it was, eggs were scrambled flat with a slice of cheese on top (really?!), toast was cooked too much, two weak slices of bacon, home fries were potatoes cut and deep fried (who does that) and we waited damn near 30 mins. This place is nestled behind a brick building on main street in norristown. You would have to enter through the back. My second time here but first time having breakfast. The staff is attentive, responsive and personable. They work very and communicate well together. I felt like a "regular" as soon as I sat down. Breakfast was Delish! Yelp steered us wrong on this one. They get great reviews but unfortunately didn't live up to the 4 star rating for us. They seem to have a lot of regulars that the wait staff know by name and know their "usual". The service is extremely slow, but the staff is friendly. The food seemed made to order which is why I believe it took so long. Food was mediocre diner food (processed cheese in the omelettes and nothing really special about their potatoes). We had pancakes (they're HUGE) and they were really good but again, nothing super special. The menu is weird in that there is a disclaimer that the prices have changed, so you don't know what anything really costs. This place was very disappointing. Was in the area from out of town and saw this place had 4 stars on Yelp and thought it was worth a try. Unfortunately it didn't remotely live up to the reviews. The main culprit was the poor and ridiculously slow service. We were seated and it took about 10 minutes before our waiter came back to take our orders. That in itself wouldn't have bothered me too much, but then waiting for 45 minutes until our food was brought out was extremely frustrating. Sat down at 12:15 and didn't get our food until 1:10. The food itself was fine, but nothing special. Moreover, this place is somewhat deceptive, the menus state that prices may have changed, which is strange they would print that on the menus when they could just print out new menus with the updated prices. I pass this place on my way to work. It's off Main Street, in the old industrial section. There's a sign for "Cafe" pointing you off the road and it takes you around this big brick building to the back. And there is it. A little cafe "Santangelo's". Concrete steps and a "Cash only" sign is the first thing you see. Scared of interchange as most small businesses are I suppose. Walked in. TV was on. A few people nestled inside. A bit small but certainly comfortable. Made me feel like I could be smoking a cig as i walked in and maybe they'd just say calmly "hey, you can't do that" but not make a huge fuss. Almost feels like a secret place I stumbled upon. I sat myself at the counter to a USA placemat and ordered a coffee and OJ per the norm. It's Saturday so I'm a bit more relaxed today. I love the smallness of the place, it's not crampy as there's not a ton of people but you can hear the plates clank and the eggs sizzle. You can smell other people's food as the waitress greets someone "Hey Uncle Mikey!" My waitress is very nice, calls me hon and other pleasantries. Looked over the menu, I must admit I was slightly disappointed. I was really looking for something hidden here, a "this is Santangelo's" item. I went with cinnamon raisin French toast but pretty basic besides that. Paired with 2 eggs over easy, bacon and scrapple. A slight gamble ordering scrapple your first visit but I'm living on the edge. Coffee is good, nothing mind blowing but good! Which is important, it was not burnt or stale. OJ was also good, which again! Important! Not watery or like syrup. I'm hopeful for my breakfast as my thumbs furiously type. And just like that, the food comes out, the phone goes down as does my self control. Eggs, scrapple and bacon were perfectly cooked. When I say perfect, I'm talking perfect. Bacon was thick cut, generous portioned, thick but not chewy, crispy but not burnt and a touch of sweet. The eggs were cooked textbook. No runny gross white but not over cooked, yolks burst with deliciousness. And the scrapple... the most delicate of touches needed... was bangin. Crispy and golden brown on the outside, soft but not mushy on the inside. The French toast was... interesting. Raisins are a weird food, when you get one that bursts in your mouth it's not quite the same as a blueberry. It's like "oh a raisin". Kinda seemed like a loaf of cinnamon raisin bread in some batter fried up. Only disappointing in the sense I was looking for that "Santangelo's special" but if they relied on the mastery of the basics, I would say they will get extremely far. My belly is full and I will give this place a solid, well deserved 4. Get a "it" item like "Santangelo's sausage gravy and biscuits" and you've got the hidden gem of hidden gems here. Probably one of the worst restaurant experiences I have had. After we sat down we waited about 45 minutes after we ordered until we got half our food. The others' food took another 10 minutes to arrive. We were seated upstairs and had no one around to tell us the status of our meals. I was starving, so anything should have been great to eat, but it was really not a good meal. I got a western omelet, processed cheese, canned peppers, mediocre home fries. I thought the toast was ok, I guess. Ambiance is hole in the wall: tacky and minimal decor, which I wouldn't mind if the service and food were acceptable, but they weren't.
