We had a horrible experience with "Sutter Marine".
We asked for a complete service and inspection, because we had a new (to us) boat that we wanted to be sure was safe for us and our three small children to use for the summer. Of primary concern, we smelled gas when we dropped it off, which we asked them to pay special attention to. When we picked up the boat and paid the $500 bill, we were told the full service and inspection had been done, and that we were ready to go. We took the boat out with our three kids...the steering did not work and it still smelled of gas. Concerned, we brought it back in. We were told, very dismissively, that they did not work on "older boat steering" and that we had to take it somewhere else. They were unconcerned that we'd been given the green light to take the boat out with three kids on a boat apparently still leaking gas and with malfunctioning steering.
We took our boat to "Marine Service Center" in Sacramento, we were informed immediately that the steering was not working because the outdrive had been reinstalled incorrectly after having it worked on at "Sutter Marine." We were also told that there was a very obvious hole in the gas tank, that any mechanic should have found, and that Sutter Marine let us take a "time bomb" onto the water with our kids.
These are just two of the critical oversights by Sutter Marine that could have ended in disaster on the water. Unfortunately, the list of "services" they claimed to have completed that were not goes on.
Our new service center fixed the steering free of charge, and provided a straightforward answer and repair solution for the gas tank.
Sutter Marine had zero regard for our, or our children's safety on the water. They promised a service and did not deliver.
Thankfully the biggest "cost" is the $500 spent for a boat returned inoperable and dangerous. Our kids are safe. I don't know how these guys sleep at night. read more
