Every once in a while I have interactions and experiences that make me want to highlight and share businesses that I feel go above and beyond taking care of their customer. I felt this way about Mello so I wanted to share my experience in this review and hope others give them a chance and come away feeling the same way I did. I stumbled upon this place during my search for a used wake surf boat. They were listing a used Calabria boat that I went to go check out. We were greeted by the owner Sally and we got to talking about wake surf boats in general. She spent about 30-45 min with us talking about her history, wake surf boats and telling us about the Centurion boats that she sells. Since I had never owned a wake surf boat before she gave us some really good info and insight into what makes a good surf boat and why Centurion was one of the top manufacturers. We left knowing we had to do more research which I did. Fast forward a year later, I ended up getting a used centurion wake surf boat. My point is I would have never thought about a Centurion boat until speaking with Sally, and we really appreciated her time and knowledge on the subject. We certainly don't have new boat money but we never felt dismissed or judged or made to feel less important because we weren't there looking at new boats. We also never felt like Sally was pushing us to Centurion or a specific direction. She was certainly highlighting why she felt the Centurion boats were the best, but I did my own research and eventually came to the same conclusion. I felt like the Centurion boats were high quality builds and they were the ones that started the whole wake surf boat build. I just recently dropped off my boat to Mello Marine to have them service it and add some features to it. It's not the closest shop (2 hrs away) but it's the one I felt most comfortable with and trusted. I first spoke with Luke who was great and helpful on the phone and I have since been dealing with Ricky. Everyone I have encountered at Mello Marine has been great, helpful, courteous, and professional. I have been genuinely impressed and pleased in all my interactions with this family run operation. So far, I have had great experiences with this shop and I have no doubt it will continue. I like to say Sally brought us back to Mello. Ricky made sure we're staying with Mello. Just had my boat decontaminated for folsom lake here. Service was fast and good. i paid $120 for a bass boat for them to run hot water through my boat which I think is just gouging. Then on top of that, I get charged 3% for my cc card. $120 for hot water and 15 min of time and they can cover $3.00. Wow. read more

Can't trust them. They will not service boat over 20yrs old even if they have serviced it previously and boat had zero issues. Also completed and charged for services that I did not approve on previous service visit. To be clear, I had no issue with the work they did when my boat was serviced there in the previous year (once with new owner and multiple times over multiple years with previous owner), and although all boat stuff is expensive they seemed ok on price. On a previous service visit for regular seasonal fluid maintenance, I asked if they did any trailer work and might replace the carpet on my runners. They said NO, which is fine. When I come to pick up my boat after service, I was surprised to see the trailer had new carpet. It was nicely done, and the price seemed ok (I would have approved had they asked), but that's not the point. read more

We found this place online and looked at their inventory. We were looking for a boat, found that they had a 2002 Centurion Typhoon. We called in and placed a security deposit to hold the boat until we could test drive the boat. Bobby said the boat required some repairs before we could checkout the boat. We get pre-approved with one of their lenders. The day before we are suppose to visit we receive a call from Bobby asking if we are coming and confirmed we were coming as we scheduled with Jeremy. The day of the visit we arrive just after opening and the sales person seems confused about why we are costing. I explain we have an appt to test drive the boat and check it out. We start looking at the boat and see the trailer tires are cracked and old. In no condition to drive. We ask for a test drive to which Bobby says they do not allow test drives, but would allow to drop the boat in a water pool. We chat with the mechanic and he says he fixed the perfect pass and the boat was in working condition. They agree to credit the cost fix the tires because the existing tires would not make it even a mile. We sat down to sign paperwork... here is when we should have walked away. They increase the price$6k off the top, my address was wrong and added all these extra fees. The cost to repair the boat to get it ready for sale, which is normally how you price the boat. You don't add it to the top of the advertised price. They re-did the paperwork three times..... we took the boat, I did not sign all of the pages because it was such a shady deal and did not provide proof of insurance. So we did not provide what the lender required to fund the loan. We too the boat and take the boat to the lake. So this is when we figure out what really wrong with the boat. -The back compartment next to the engine fills with water -the prop cotter pin was missing The boat straps were weather damaged and tore during a drive -the front strap hook weather damaged and tore -the Tac, speedometer, temperature gauge and screws in dashboard were not in properly- nothing to screw into -the lower panel had all wires exposed -The back of the dashboard had wire nuts and on heat sheet shrinks and loose disconnected wires -boat cover did not fit -Bimini top fixtures do not screw on properly and shake/rattle -Pop Rivets loose Bobby lied claiming loan was funded/title transferred after I told him we were returning the boat. I called the potential lender and they confirmed the loan was not funded. **We returned the boat and they refuse to return the down payment for a boat we did not keep.**** BUYER BE AWARE read more

They boast about their great "history" but they refuse to work on a 2000 Elite-V because it's too "old". Unbelievable. I understand if they don't want to work on a p.o.s. with all sorts of issues but I just wanted an oil change and impeller. Not only that but they serviced the boat in 2023. I guess if you can't afford one of their $200,000 wake board boats you're not good enough to go there. I remember when customer service was about taking care of the customer not just working on the "easy" stuff and picking and choosing who you want to help. I guess I'll go get a better job, buy a better boat, and re-apply to their service department to see if I "qualify". read more

We were shopping for a new boat after a bad experience with another dealer. When we arrived Payam walked us around showed us all sorts of different boats. He spent a long time with us even though we were still deciding which brand to go with. We left that day and continued to explore options. A few days we decided that a Centurion boat was the way we wanted to go. Payam was a big part of our decision to buy from Mello he blew us away with all his knowledge of Centurion boats so we could make our choice of which boat was right for us. Sally, the owner, was also awesome and we couldn't be more happy that we choose Mello Marine for our beautiful 2022 RI230 . What can I say about mello marine? They are great ! A nice family owned establishment that cares if your happy purchase and even after they never stop caring. I went in asking questions about boats and ended up getting a great deal on a brand new Four Winn's 190 ! Brandy helped us out, she doesn't give you the salesman vibe. More so you feel a at home and relaxed vibe which is what I like. The manager, he was very informative and straight to the point. He was very cool through out the process as well. HORRIBLE SERVICE!!! We had an appt in May 15th to take our boat in for an engine repair. When we called 5 days later to get a status, no one could tell us anything. Finally Ben called back and said the majority of the work had been done, but they were waiting for a part that should be in the next day. Five days later after hearing nothing we called to get another status and learned that the boat repair had not even been started and the part was on "order" with no idea when it would arrive. Terrible follow up, no follow through, and no access to the Managee or owner to lodge a complaint. Today we picked up our boat and will find another repair shop and will never go back to Mello Matine. It was a disaster and no one seemed to care or take any responsibility after 2 weeks. read more

Just wanted to update my last review. We bought an air pump from Mello while visiting California this past September after my Mother's passing. Once we returned to Wyoming/Colorado we set out to paddle. The pump worked fine the first time we used but the gage bounced all over the place so we could not get an accurate reading of our PSI. The pump was really loud too but sinceThis was a new style of pump to us so we weren't sure if this was normal. A few days later, we once again used the pump but this time, it wasn't working correctly. It sounds like it is pumping air into my board but it would not go past what we could determine was around 5 psi because the needle bounces all over the place. 20 minutes later, our board was still not inflated so we had to use our son's pump which showed we were only at a 5 PSI. We called Mello Marine from Cheyenne and told them about the pump. I also contacted Jobe but never got a response. Mello Marine replaced our the broken pump at no cost to us BEFORE we even sent the broken one back! Not only that, but I do think they replaced it with an even better pump made by a different manufacturer. Now that is top notch customer service!! So far, it appears that it works well but we will have to see next season because SUPing season is over in this area. , we are looking forward to using it next season. Since we are from the Sacramento area and our family still lives there, we will always be back to that area. I highly recommend this place and would definitely do business with them again. read more

We purchased our boat through them last year and they personally took us out on folsom lake, with their own truck, and gave us a demo on our boat. Sally Mello is wonderful and has such a passion for teaching people boating skills and safety. She just put on an event called Women on the Water, and taught a group of us ladies to pull the boat trailer, launch, drive and load the boat. I have never seen a company go so above and beyond. Sally the owner lied to me out the gate. We just purchased a used boat. When I called the manufacturer they recommended Mello. I called spoke with Sally told her I just purchased the boat and wanted it checked out for any required maintenance or problems. She told me bring it in. I drove an hour to bring it to her only to be told upon arrival that they do not inspect boats for problems they will only fix the specific thing you request. That's not what sally told me. So they were supposed to only change the oil after the conversation with the staff. I got the boat back and even though they were not supposed to touch it, all of the transmission fluid had been drained from my boat and left bone dry. Then once I got my boat there and had them call out Sally since Sally told me they would inspect the boat. Once she came out she said since the boat was 22 years old they wouldn't even work on it other than the oil change. She could have said that over the phone before I drove my boat an hour to her shop. Do not trust this lady or anyone on her staff. They are liars and will sabotage your boat for more work. read more

My wife & I have been renting SUP's for the last few years and we were finally ready to take the next step. We had learned enough about the stand up paddling to know that we liked certain types of boards and not others. We were really hesitant to buy online just because there are so many different types and sizes of boards and we didn't know which would be the best for us. Plus, when given the opportunity we prefer to shop locally and support small businesses. When we went into Mello Marine we were greeted by both Sally and Asa, let me tell you, these two ladies know their SUP's! Mellow Marine just does not have 3 or 4 boards to look at, they easily have 50-60 boards from many different manufacturers. After discussing what type of paddling we did, they made some suggestions on some boards and offered to take us out for a demo ride. This was a huge selling point for us and made us much more comfortable with our purchase. In the end, we ended up buying boards for our kids as well. Be very cautious of this place. We went there because of the excellent reviews. Super nice guys. 5 weeks later we've been promised a couple dozen times that someone was going to call us and give us the status. We've been told repeatedly that various things were being done. Today we find out that only one thing was finished and it wasn't even what we took our boat in for. We have never questioned the cost as we just wanted it working. But to pay for something and still get nothing... wow. Now they say even though it was covered, rain got in and needed to dry out... nobody ever mentioned that in 5 weeks?? And not one person ever called us back in the past 5 weeks while we have been checking in every few days. Really?? We were told up front they would get on it right away. So sad that their care factor just isn't there. And now it's June and time to have fun on the river which won't be happening. This really sucks. read more

I purchased a brand new Four Winns H190 from Kenny and the Mello Marine team! It's beautiful. I went into several other dealerships and none were as genuinely kind, approachable, respectful and knowledgeable as Mello. Being that it was my first boat purchase ever (not my first boat experience) they were extremely helpful and engaged in making this a positive and painless experience. Even the finance guy, John at Priorty one, made me feel welcome and answered every question. Not even 24 hours after bringing my new boat home, I took it out to a river, and caught the prop on a sand bed. I felt like a complete idiot. When I texted Kenny, he called right away and had me bring it in... what a rookie mistake. I was so embarrassed and so mad at myself. I couldn't believe it! Kenny, Sally, Mike, Roxy and the entire team was ready waiting for me to assure me they've seen worse. They changed out my prop, made sure the boat was back to normal and got me back on the water right away, free of charge. Mike even hugged me and reassured me that I would eventually be a pro, not to worry. Two lessons learned....one, stick to deep water lakes! Sally and the entire team at Mello made the purchase of our beautiful new custom ordered FI23 a pleasure. We were somewhat dreading the idea of purchasing new, because one, we thought we could get more bang for our buck used, but after seeing the FI23 and talking/dealing with the sales team we were sold. Secondly, we like most, hate car sales people which I can say that they are definitely not. They were very upfront and helpful throughout the entire process. We also never felt pushed to spend more than what we needed in fact they were helping us take things away to help cut costs so that we felt comfortable with the payment and yet were still happy with the end product.
