    Egg flower soup (small)

Quaint American Chinese food spot. It's a small family owned business. They have indoor dining and takeout. We called in ahead of time to order takeout and still had a little bit of a wait. This would not be a quick stop and go spot. There was street parking, clean bathrooms, clean & spacious seating for dining. Ordered the egg flower soup and beef chow fun (requested it to be combination style) for take out. It ended up being chicken, bbq pork, and shrimp. It was tasty and enjoyable. What one would expect of a Chinese American restaurant and feel satisfied with it.

Nice little spot for great food! The location is a bit on the edge of town. We were there Saturday evening and they were not busy at all. Parking is available on the side of the building. The interior was a cafe style atmosphere, clean and well maintained. Sign says "under new management" so not sure what may have changed compared to prior reviews. The service was very prompt and friendly all around. We ordered honey walnut shrimp, almond fried chicken, and house fried rice. The food was prepared quickly and delivered to our table with a smile. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious and the portion sizes were generous! The honey walnut shrimp had a wonderful crispy coating and the sauce had a great balance of sweet and tangy. The almond fried chicken had a fantastic crispy coating as well and was made with high quality chicken and cooked perfectly. For drinks, they had fountain Pepsi products including lemonade and Dr Pepper and a few beers to choose from. Overall: great food, friendly service, reasonable prices, and large portions. Heartily recommended.

Seems like a bad buy on managements part. Then I set the empty carafe on the end of the server in front of the table while she took drink orders, she looked at it, then walked away...? If sat there empty most of the meal- aka they came back several times to take our food order, give us food, and check in before they finally filled it again. Drinks were decent, can't really mess up a mimosa I guess. I thought the food was gross and bland, I didn't eat it. The rest of my party liked their food though. Edit: bumping this up a star because of the nice reply I got. I'll be sure to support this business again as soon as I can and update my review. (This review was originally three stars)

This review is for the Cafe part of Hamley's. We were a party of 6 visiting from out of town for…read morethe first time on Saturday, June 13th just before 4pm. We stopped in for some ice cream before heading back on the road. The woman working at the counter with brown hair and glasses was helpful and patient with our big group. I wasn't aware at the time that it was so close to closing. Having worked in service roles my whole life, I fully understand how frustrating it is to complete closing tasks when there are people lingering around. With that being said, a quick heads up would have been very helpful, and made it so we sped up our visit. At no point during our visit did any of the 2 employees working mention it was approaching closing time. I will accept fault for not looking up the posted closing time, but again, with it being our first visit, I wasn't entirely sure what to expect. After being served our ice cream our group sat quietly at an indoor table enjoying our treats. The other woman working with blonde hair seemed visibly upset we were in the cafe. She was pacing around grumpily and even ignored one of our guests who wanted to ask her a question regarding the cafe, not once, but twice. We proceeded to continue eating our ice cream when about 10-15 minutes later, the same woman, without warning very angrily shouted at our group "Seriously you guys, it's 20 minutes past closing. You need to get out of here!" Motioning towards the door. I was genuinely speechless with her callous and rude behavior directed at us. I will reiterate again, we were not warned or informed during our visit that it was approaching closing time or asked if we could enjoy our ice cream elsewhere before she escalated the situation. Management needs to sit down and have a serious conversation about this type of behavior. It is entirely unacceptable and unwelcoming. From what I see, Hamley's takes pride in being one of the best restaurants in Pendleton. I would expect that this reputation comes from excellent customer service which was not demonstrated in the cafe today. It really is a shame too because we did have an excellent lunch in the saloon. The food and service were fantastic. Were it for the cafe soley, I would rate this 2/5 stars because of this unpleasant interaction. But, because we had such a great lunch and plan to come back to the saloon in the future, I will give 3 stars. Another guest from my group fully intends to contact management in the near future to discuss the situation that occurred today. We hope our future visits will go much better.

The bar is long, with pictures of all the Pendleton Round-Up lining one wall. The place is a fascinating time capsule. Way in the back, beyond the bar and the pool table, a very small dining room with counter service and several humble booths are tucked away next to the kitchen. It's old, and proud of it. I've only eaten there twice; I once had a great breakfast there many years ago with my son. The portions were generous, the service was excellent, and as American style breakfasts go, it was about as good as they get. It's not "inspired food." It's the standard stuff, and there's something comforting about that. It's Americana at it's best. The second time was my birthday, and again, I was there with my son. It was evening. When we got there, we were the only ones occupying the cafe. It looked exactly as it had 20-plus years ago. My son ordered a hamburger and fries. Again, no trendy toppings or fuss, just very fresh, very well prepared hearty fare...exactly what we were looking for. I had their "famous" fried chicken. it was without hesitation, some of the best I'd ever tasted. It came with jo-jos, a salad, and garlic bread. It was all excellent, and almost too much food. If you enjoy old school dining in a small town cafe, it's going to be hard to beat the Rainbow Cafe and Bar.

The whole place is well decorated, pretty cozy, and definitely got a vibe to it of a local place. Service: everyone was fine and friendly, we were friendly to them as we could tell on the Sunday night it was just the two folks and they were doing their best. Drinks and food: the drinks were strong but good, the food was excellent. We got the chicken and it's definitely enough to split with someone, and the French dip which my husband said was meh. The potato jojos were huge but tasty. Over all very well worth the visit! A nice historic place and experience.
