OMG ! If we could Leave a zero rating we would. We are in our 60's And 70's And this was BY FAR the filthiest restaurant we have ever been to. The inside dining is a total joke , it is a very dirty store room with tons of flies and fly paper hanging . The outside patio is not Much better with food all over the picnic tables. An employee came out of the kitchen with a lite cigarette hanging in his mouth. More flies everywhere in the ordering area. The food was also was not very good, well below average, not sure how they got some of these good reviews ! The only good thing was that we did not get iill after eating there , we were genuinely concerned about the food safety . Does Oregon not inspect their restaurants ? read more

Drove by this place and on the way back had to check it out. It's an old school spot on the side of the road. They have like 40 shake flavors and a bunch of burger options. Looks more of a drive thru & order than a walk in spot. I ordered the Monster Burger, Tater Tots & Strawberry Shake. Monster Burger which is a double cheeseburger,ham & bacon was good....Tater Tots was good....Strawberry Shake was good. If you want good food definitely swing by and check this place out. read more

The food is pretty mid, the premises are dilapidated but charming. I'd give it three stars if it weren't for the potential! It has so much potential, it just needs some Portland life breathed into it. It's the perfect location for roadtrippers, situated right off the 84. It's a convenient drive thru shack with shaded spots to sit and eat and park. The chicken nuggets had yellow dye in them (why??) and the burgers while promising didn't deliver the full flavor the quirky little shack hinted at. Just a little investment in renovations, social media, and higher quality standards and this place would be a shining star. read more

OK, so all things being relative this place gets 5-stars because service was awesome- fun, and friendly while also getting the order right! I'm also giving these guys a 5-star from my dogggo because they gave her a piece of bacon. Our extra- crispy onion rings were perfect, and tater tots get 5-stars simply for being on the menu. Classic old school drive thru. There are several covered picnic tables and a small seating area in an enclosed building if you want to enjoy your meal outside of your car. Including photo of drink menu as that's most common complaint is the drink menu isn't clear. Staff is super friendly. They went above and beyond freaking to treat options for our dog including whipped cream, dog treat, bacon and ice cream mix. Because our puppy is allergic to everything they decided to give him pets instead of food. Highly appreciated the effort. Shakes are awesome including fresh fruit and an extra large straw (as they should for shakes but nobody else gets right). Bacon cheeseburger was really good. Still stand by passing on the sides if you want a true 5 star drive thru experience. Easy access from the freeway too! read more

Just a note to the business: The menu posted outside doesn't include the milkshake flavors, it just says 40+ flavors which isn't very helpful We ordered cheeseburgers plain and it was obvious that they made our burgers with everything on it and then realized and scraped everything off as we could still see remnants of ketchup and lettuce. read more

The food was pretty good for a retro american drive through burger joint. The prices were reasonable. The staff was friendly and efficient. The dining room was closed, but they had some outdoor picnic benches. This was a good Yelp find. read more

I loved going to Hal's with my parents when I was a kid. Even though I live in N.Idaho now, I still make the trip to Pendleton when I come "home" to visit. Hands down, the best burger I have ever had. That's really saying a lot because I have been to some really good burger places. I've even been to Big Kahuna Burger and everyone knows they do have some tasty burgers. I'll never forget the 1st time I took my son to Hal's. He is 21 now. He was about 12 at the time. To this day, we have been back together and he still says it's the best burger he has ever had. It's not really a trip to Pendleton until you stop here. read more

Well I don't recommend delivery. They messed up the order and I was charged for the extras that I didn't get - such as, no cheese on fries, none of the condiments I ordered. And it was loaded with way too much Mayo. Yes, I did call but I didn't want to tip the driver again (Door Dash) and I know they work on tips plus it was getting late. I was told they have a new cook but I guess they didn't pay attention to the list stapled to the bag. read more

We've been going to Hal's since it opened in 1952, and it was very good, especially the shakes. But recently, this year, it's gone downhill, in the worst way. The shakes and hamburgers are no where near as good, and they get orders mixed up, forget to prepare them correctly, it's just sad. Today some friends were hunting in the area, and they wanted to go to Hal's as they remembered previous years, but I told them it's not the same. They went anyway and when they came back they were very disappointed. read more

My son and I were in town for a wrestling tournament. The burgers, fries, and onion rings made the perfect ending for a tough day of his first ever tournament. The onion rings were great and the fries were crispy, golden, and well seasoned. The burgers were fresh and hot and i love the detail of a wrapped burger. I would definitely stop here again! I would love to leave a review of the milkshakes, but unfortunately the machine was out of order, but i won't hold them back for that. read more

On our roadtrip through Pendleton , OR we stopped off at Hal's. Drive up on either side to order. They're shakes are amazing, we got a pineapple shake and highly recommend. Their fries hit the spot. Food is great Ambiance is very busy they have nice area to sit outside and eat. But I ordered ahead like an hour and half before I even showed up. It is very annoying that I go inside stand there for 10 mins waiting to be helped when young lady that works there walks right past me doesn't even ask if I have been helped, nope nothing!! And I'm sorry I think it's BS when another lady comes inside after me the young lady asks her what her order is didn't even ask me!! Seriously!! So sorry service was not great!!! But great food! Yummy, fast and inexpensive! We stopped here on our way to Portland from Boise and it was such a fun experience.

If it was possible I would leave a zero star review I definitely would. Passing through Pendleton I decided to pass on normal fast food, and stop at somewhere local. After being greeted by a very kind server who took my order I ended up paying almost $30 for a few burgers, some fries and a shake at this point I was expecting the best. However I was severely disappointed. The burger was tasteless and gross, the patty was grey and most likely fresh out the freezer. The fries were overcooked, and following a similar theme of the burger were also tasteless. The shake was syrup mixed with ice cream that wasn't mixed all the way. Overall this had to have been some of the worst food I've ever had. So if you have made it this far, save yourself the money, time, and stomach pain, and do not stop at this joke of a restaurant. read more

I went through drove thru and went inside a few times I'm a loyal customer and I've noticed on night shift as well as day shift, that some of the employees cuss and give us customers attitude. I say and waited for my order one visit for almost an estimated time of 35 minutes, night shift and I'm not happy, I really hope management fixes these issues as a mystery shopper. If I wasn't a mystery shopper I would not be posting this review. As far as the food goes it is phenomenal, there's a few select employees that goes above and beyond I wish I could've gotten her name she was above standard and going above and beyond I hope this person becomes a manager at this establishment one day. Bad management needs fixed and the attitude from workers as well a select few on night shift need a talk by the manager. read more

This has been a hometown establishment forever! Very few things have changed in the last 25 years. Great burgers (thin patties cooked on a flattop), great fries, homemade fry sauce, homemade lemonade, and shakes. I personally don't like the "new" shakes compared to the old ones, but other people do. My favorite is the Jumbo Cheese (double cheeseburger) with fries or Chicken Strip Basket with ranch and fry sauce all with a lemonade or Arnold Palmer (lemonade iced tea mix). There has been a few issues with customer service and food orders. I will say the best shift to hit is the M-F lunch shift. If Sarah is working, you're guaranteed good customer service and food. read more

Hal's is your typical drive thru burger joint that's not a chain restaurant. We stopped by this place on our way home from a trip. We both ordered the cheese burger (single patty) and fires and chocolate shake. The burger was okay, nothing special and kind of bland but satisfied our hunger. I liked the fries the best. Can't rate anything but the customer service because, after waiting in line for 14 minutes I got up to the order window and was told "Sorry, we closed at 7:30" !! What? I look at my car dashboard and it clearly reads 7:34. Pull out the cell and it reads the same. So, even though they have hours listed on the website, Facebook and Yelp that clearly state Saturday hours are 10:00am-7:30pm, they decided that closing early on a Saturday night was a great idea! Weak! Not only did they turn me away but they also turned away people in front of me and behind me. At least be decent enough to serve those in line at the time. This place might be a local institution but I will never give them any business should I ever be passing through again. Apparently the Speiss family that runs the place doesn't really care about their customers or the long term negative reputation that Hal's will get by this kind of antic. Too bad I can't offer any thoughts on the food. I didn't get any. read more
