I have been coming here for some time. Probably twice a month for the last year. They have two items that are wonderful. The Godzilla burger, and the "Tot-poppers". 4 out of every 5 visits they are out of the latter. This isn't normally any issue as they have always been willing to make a reasonable accommodation and create a variant of it. Which I tried based on their recommendation. I travel an hour to come here so it's safe to assume, before today I had a much different opinion of this place. This time was different. They informed me that not only were they out of the item, but had been since the day before and simply chose not to prep more. Because "the cooks hate making those." I then asked if they could make the substitute the recommended previously. The girl taking the order responded by informing me that the kitchen staff hates making that as well, because it requires them to WASH THEIR HANDS! Imagine my surprise that they were refusing not only to prepare a dish in which they recommend as a substitute, but that their reason to refuse it was because they don't want to wash their hands. Absolutely disgusting! Completely unforgivable. I will never return to eat here. For the staff to flat out complain about the inconvenience of basic (bare minimum) food safety, and personal hygiene is completely unacceptable. If they are brash enough to openly complain to a customer about having to wash their hands then it is merely a matter of time before they kill someone with their complete disregard for safety. read more

Not to shabby at all! Love to try local food and give them business. This place had a lot of dipping sauces and the food was pretty dang good. I was shocked at the grilled chicken salad since it was basically just the stuff they would use on their burgers. The grilled chicken was good. They give you a lot of fries - so many you could easy share on order. The burger with Worcestershire sauce and mushrooms was awesome! read more

Love this spot! Perfect for road weary travelers. Good food, good ambience, good service, and just all around great experience. Not to mention the bathroom was clean and good smelling, something I give double points for for holes in the wall. Highly recommend them for future stops and grub! Hal's is just what the doctor ordered! We were on a long trip driving by Pendleton on Hwy 84 and looking for something fast & easy but not the usual franchise fare. Hal's is just a by-pass hop away from 84 and an easy connect back on. We enjoyed reasonably priced, generously sized burgers & tots, all cooked to order. The wait staff were very friendly and helpful. Covered outdoor seating on picnic tables and some pleasant piped in music was a real plus for us after being in the car for hours. They even have a dedicated tree for their local squirrel friends! One negative was the restroom. Husband reports it was dirty and the door lock did not work. read more

Wish it was good. The food made me and the fam sick on our trip back to Portland. The cost for 2 adults and 2 kids to eat was close to $40. It was pricey and normally if it was good I'd have no qualms about it. However it just didn't live up to satisfaction. We did order shakes, espresso and cheesecake. Neither were good and did not have a good taste to them. The burgers were not very filling... and didn't really taste great. I will say the fries were the best thing that we all had. read more

I just wish that they had a gluten free, designated fryer for fries and then I'd give them 10 stars. This has been one of my favorite places since I was little! My fiancé and me went here today and had a fairly normal sized order. Two burgers, two fries, and two shakes. It took a fairly long time to make the order which was weird because we were the only ones there, but it was fine. Then a girl swings open the window and says "two burgers, a fry, and a tot?" We ordered two fries but my fiancé likes tater tots so we just took it. Then she grabs the shakes my fiancé grabs them and we drive off as we don't have air conditioning and it was hot. My fiancé goes to take a drink of his and it's a small, we ordered two larges. The local burger shack. Pretty conveniently located off the interstate, which is why we swung in here on the way back to Salem from Baker City. The burgers and fries were pretty standard. My favorite part of the meal was the large chocolate milkshake my boyfriend and I split. Now that was tasty. One thing I noticed, I would not choose the drive through for pick up. Because the burgers are handmade to order, the wait is longer than you would expect from your average fast food joint. This makes the drive through a traffic jam. We parked, walked in, got our orders, and sat down on their outside seating. Where we fought with the wind to keep our napkins in check, but still, was a nice meal. read more

One week after my first visit I returned. This experience was better than the first for several reasons: I was asked whether I wanted "fry sauce" or not (many folks will really like this stuff), the onion rings are VERY good, and our stuff came on a tray with a bottle of ketchup (I had indicated I was a "here" order) instead of the bags, packets of ketchup, etc. that I received last time (when I indicated for "here"). The service was far better today (and it was really busy). I had a double bacon cheese burger this time, and it was pretty great. I would not do this very often, though (what a meal). Fries and one their shakes (chocolate, and yes, the shakes are really about the best ever) on top of the burger was a real risk, but given the circumstances it was a good call. read more

First impression: it's a dive! That adds to the charm of a local place - usually the more divey, the better! There was also a constant line of people in the drive through lane, a good sign! Second impression: Sarah and Trevor were awesome! Yes, it's dog friendly - if your dog is potty trained, they are welcome in the covered, air conditioned veranda! They also have outdoor seating which is a huge bonus. They even gave my pup a cup of water! Third impression: they have shoestring fries -my fave! They serve 1/4 pounders (you can order bigger if you want!) - also my fave! They have Pepsi products - yay, more of my fave! This, so far, is my dream local dive burger joint...now to wait for the food! Fourth impression: the burgers were good - nothing overly special, but good nonetheless. The fries were definitely not shoestring and were under salted, but were good. They were the size of McDonald's fries - not shoestring and not fat ones. The onion rings would have been super delicious if they weren't cold - they really had pretty good flavor! My burger had a stale bottom bun, but the contents were delicious. The salad was good, and the ranch dressing was good. Overall, great great service, and for that, I'd come again and give them another shot. The Bacon cheeseburger is just the right size and so tasty. Onion rings are the perfect thickness. Milk shakes are amazing and thick enough to be a milkshake yet still be able to go through the straw. The amount of food you get for your money is worth the trip. read more

On our way home from a weekend trip we decided to check yelp for a good place to eat. This was the top choice for fast food so we decided this was the place! I wouldn't say it was McDonalds fast food but it was really delicious and good things take time. My grilled cheese was super buttery and very yummy with my tater tots! My husbands Jumbo bacon cheese burger was really delicious as well as his fries! The sauce was made in restaurant and it was probably some of the best ranch I have ever had. I also had a huckleberry cheesecake shake which was also delicious! One thing they could have done better was getting out the Fries and tots warm and a little more done.
