The price is definitely high at around 5 dollars / cupcake and 9 dollars / cake slice, but it's absolutely worth it on a special occasion. Parking is very easy on weekday nights around the area. I think this is one of the cutest cake shops around and it's always so clean and the presentation in the cases is top tier. I came in specifically for the Susiecakes x See's Candies collab but I was a day too late. I didn't want to leave empty handed so I took my time deciding what I wanted to get. I remember getting susie cakes while living in San Diego so it's been awhile since I've indulged in its splendor. We came here after checking out the coffee shop across the street, and it's such a cute spot for an any time of day drop in. I am obsessed with the turquoise color theme and the adorable wall of any possible accessories for a cake or cupcake celebration. They have a healthy milk of premade cakes and cupcakes, and with seasonal flavors. They also have a sampler case in the front. Their cranberry sponge was deelicioussss. My husband and I chose to do the mocha and the strawberry. The mocha cupcake was one of the best cupcakes I've ever had- 5/5 for sure. The flavors of the cake and frosting were a perfect blend of mocha but the cake was INCREDIBLY moist. The strawberry cupcake was meh. I'd give it 3/5. The cake was flavorless and dry! Their vibrant decor and friendly service draws customers to return. Their stores always give that old timey, classic vibe where customer satisfaction is always their priority. I tried 3: slice of tropical coconut layered cake with noticeable pineapple bits in each layer, peanut butter cupcake, and mocha chocolate cupcake. I believe the slice was about $8 and the cupcakes were $6. I can't quite remember because I used a giftcard for my purchase. If you're a fan of that classic buttercream, then you're going to like SusieCakes. If you prefer a less sweet and lighter cake, this might be overwhelming for your palate. We always get the 6-layer Celebration cake with the signature blue icing. It is delicious, amazing and really pretty. For this special birthday, his 18th, I ordered the Luscious Lemon cake with layers of lemon curd and buttercream frosting, mmmmm! The 6" size cake is more generous than you'd think and every bite was both tart and sweet, the cake so moist, the delicious cake sugar sprinkled on top of the icing crunching on your teeth. Getting four different flavored cupcakes seemed like a good idea for a small celebration vs. getting one cake, or so I thought... I ordered peanut butter, coconut, strawberry and lemon cupcakes. Came here over the summer for a birthday sweet treat after hanging out at the beach. The place was really cute inside and we had high hopes. Looks can be deceiving! We picked out a few cupcakes and a snickerdoodle cookie. We ate part of the cookie on the drive back home and it was tasty. It had a good texture and was a solid snickerdoodle. When we got home, we tried the cupcakes. We were super disappointed. The chocolate cupcakes were basic and average. Honestly, they tasted like a box mix but were the best ones out of the flavors we picked. They had a a special flavor of raspberry lemon so we got two of them. They were the worst ones. They were super mushy inside and literally had no flavor. The frosting texture was very soft and tasted like nothing. My husband didn't even finish his cupcake. He threw the rest away. I was hoping for something delicious and special for my birthday and this was not it. Being it was a bakery in SF, obviously the price wasn't cheap. Well I was late to the game for the App. The gal in the store tried to help me, but dang it, the App did not appear as an option and her App went away on her phone. Come to find out they are having issues w/Android phones (which I have) and their App not loading. So I did reach out to Customer Service and had the most wonderful experience. Through the course of many emails back and forth and always a very prompt response. I was able to have my last 3 purchases added to my account and get my "Free Birthday Slice" all w/o having to use an App ~ Winner... Winner. I am not a fan of "Apps". So aside from this, if you are looking for the best cake in this town, generous portions (meal for 3) at a reasonable price $7-$8.50, this is your go to spot. No other bakery in this town, can beat the price and quality of their product. Plus the selection. I mostly go for the cake, better value, though the cupcakes are cute and wonderful flavors. It's probably best that I live in Berkeley and there is not a SusieCakes conveniently located here*, because my sweet tooth and I would have a tough time staying away. Still, I've made it to this SusieCakes location three times in the last six months and have ordered two different cupcakes and one slice of cake. My first time, I went with the Strawberry Lemonade and Flourless Chocolate cupcakes, both of which earned five stars. My second time, I chose the Flourless Chocolate cupcake again. It's a great choice whether you try to avoid gluten or have it all the time like me. (Sadly, anyone with Celiac disease should avoid, as SusieCakes does note on their website that "there is gluten present in the bakery and in other products, and we do share equipment among products.") On my third visit, I decided to try a slice of the Tropical Coconut cake. It wasn't quite as spectacular as the cupcakes, but it was still solid -- I'll give it four stars. What made this visit extra noteworthy was that I arrived maybe 10 minutes before they were scheduled to close. I was actually a little bit worried that traffic on the bridge would keep me from getting there on time, but it all worked out. The friendly staff member asked if I wanted a chocolate chip cookie on the house. I'm not one to turn down free baked goods, so I happily accepted. When I examined my goodies in the car, I discovered she had given me three cookies! The SusieCakes Staff get five stars. I'm impressed with the whole operation.
