Came here on a Friday night, got here at 610 and got seated right away. Once we got seated we notice crowds of people coming in so we were happy we just beat the dinner rush. We ordered a number of things. Salmon truffle carpaccio, some nigiri, jalapeño poppers, dynamite roll, bay scallop roll, salmon skin salad, miso soup, edamame, and hot sake. As a long time customer, this has been one of the worst experience ever in my past 5 years dining at sushi stop. Ordered an eel roll and ate half of it and came to find that the other half was fully burnt. Mentioned it to my waiter Amanda to see if she could do anything about it and she blamed it on me for eating half of it and not notifying her before eating half of the roll. However, I *always* recommend SushiStop to the casual sushi eater visiting Pasadena, especially if you enjoy ordering a lot of items to try a good portion of a restaurant's menu. For the quality of this sushi, the prices are very fair. Worth it? Absolutely. I've been here three or four times, dining in twice and ordering to-go at least once. I've tried various types of their sashimi and hand rolls, aburi salmon, the popcorn shrimp roll, one of their chicken rolls, and the crunchy rice. We was in the area and decided to try this place out for the first time. We were greeted and seated as soon as we entered the restaurant and given a check off menu as well as an explanation of how their system works but they asked if we been there before. The customer service was really good too! They always checked in to make sure everything is ok. I asked for a couple refills of iced water and they brought it right away and i also asked for low sodium soy sauce which was brought out in a jiffy. We ordered the seaweed salad, california roll, salmon/avocado roll, salmon sushi, tuna hand roll, Philadelphia roll, tempura udon and a side of white rice (not pictured). The seaweed salad was quite good and wasnt salty or overly seasoned... It was super tender and didnt get caught in my teeth like most seaweed salad does and it was a really good size serving. The california roll was really good and they use fresh ingredients... The crab in the cali roll was really good and super fresh and tasted really good. The salmon/avocado roll was also really super fresh and can tell they dont use cheap fish to make it. They put very little avocado in the roll to where i couldn't really taste it much when i dipped it in the soy sauce and popped the whole thing in my mouth. I was so satisfied with the amount and portion that was given to us. The salmon sushi comes in 2 pieces per order and it was so good that we ordered another order. The rice wasnt overly sticky and the salmon was definitely cut fresh today. I can tell by the taste that the fish wasnt from days before. I was impressed by how big of a piece they give of the fish. The tuna hand roll was my least favorite especially since they use the soy paper instead of the standard seaweed wrap. I prefer the seaweed wrap more than the soy paper since there isnt much flavor if any flavor to the soy paper. The only good part is that they put fresh ingredients in the hand roll... The hand roll had tuna, seaweed salad and carrots in it and had the perfect amount of each ingredient. The other thing i like about it was that it wasnt messy. The Philadelphia roll was really good... It was so good that we ordered a second order like we did with the salmon sushi. This roll had a California roll with a dollop of cream cheese and a piece of salmon nigiri on top! They include a lemon on the side to compliment the roll... I did use the lemon on top of it and it was delicious! The way they made this roll was definitely chef kiss and is probably one of our favorite rolls (i mean since we ordered 2 orders lol). I like that they didnt put too much cream cheese which wouldve overpowered the flavor of the other ingredients! The tempura udon was perfect portion and the broth wasnt salty at all which was definitely really good. The udon noodles has the right amount of chewiness and the texture was perfect. It comes with wakame (wet seaweed), fish cake and tempura (which comes on the side) which we also liked cuz the tempura was so crunchy and wasnt heavily battered plus it wasnt oily! Overall, if youre looking for a really good sushi spot i highly recommend this place but come here as early as you can because it does get quite packed since theres only about 10 tables in total but half of them are for a party of 2. Sushistop is a Japanese restaurant that serves high quality sushi. It's not an all you can eat type but you do pay and what you pick. When we first saw this restaurant it could be confusing cause the color scheme on their sign is similar to GameStop so don't be surprised if that's GameStop. We sat down on their bar and we obverse the area especially the mural its hit Japan theme. In their menu they had takoyaki and I'm a huge takoyaki connoisseur but I had a feeling it was frozen I ask the waiter and they did say it was. That's what I appreciate when a waiter is honest you score big in my books. They had an advertisement on dessert and a 10 percent off of your order if you follow them on Instagram which was cool free dessert and price off count me in. The sushi was amazing you can taste the different from high quality over all you can eat. The dessert was ok a roll cream cake with more whipped cream on the side which is a bit bizarre cause you have a rolled cream cake and on the side more cream so your just getting a mouthful of cream but I shouldn't complain after having a free dessert. Sushi Stop was the affordable category and since the show got us craving for sushi we're like let's go! Passed by this location many times in Old Pas, but never try til recent Covid times with a phone in order. The pictures looked great on their online menu but in person it was TINY. For the price they charge I would expect at least "normal" portion, but it looks like it was something from a kids' menu. I guess good for portion control but not for a piggy like me. haha For sushis, we ordered the crab hand roll, salmon truffle hand roll, shrimp tempura roll, albacore with miso sauce. Location/Parking: Located near the border of Old Town Pasadena. There are parking garages nearby on the side streets (90 minutes free parking). Background: I have eaten in store maybe five times and ordered takeout nearly ten times. I keep coming back for the Baked Salmon Rolls. Ambiance: A pretty small restaurant with maybe enough to sit a total of 25 people. It's always busy during nighttime and it has never had empty tables based on my visits. I ordered: Baked Salmon Roll (3.5/5) - This is really a hit or miss. Sometimes, it tastes amazing while other times, it tastes bland and overcooked. If you look at my previous review, I talked about how much I loved this stuff so it disappoints me when the food is, well, merely disappointing. It seems like I like this dish less and less every time I order it. Dynamite Roll (2/5) - This was terrible. The scallops were flavorless and had some weird rubbery texture. I have tasted fresh, well cooked scallops before and they were the complete opposite of this. Scallops should be delicate and juicy, not like this. Again, I feel like the last time I tried this, it was really good but now, everything has gone downhill. Baked Mussels (4/5) - These were fine. They reminded me of the ones I would love at seafood buffets. Not really anything special but I'm just glad they didn't mess it up. Tempura Udon (2/5) - First of all, the tempura is inedible. This might make me sound inexperienced but I bit into one piece and literally could not tell if it was supposed to be a carrot or a sweet potato. I could barely bite into it because of how hard and undercooked it was, so I'm assuming it was a carrot, I don't even know. Do people make tempura from carrots? Idk, but that was a really terrible piece of sweet potato then... The pumpkin (I think?) was also undercooked, it was really hard to eat and I ended up not finishing it. The two other pieces of tempura were OK. The udon tasted OK as well, not anything special. Of course, this was all only $3.50, but what's the point in spending $3.50 on tempura udon if the tempura sucks? Yellowtail Chili Ponzu (2.5/5) - AGAIN, this was good the first time I tried it, which is why I ordered it again. The second time I ordered it, something was definitely off. The texture of the fish was dry and weird so I'm assuming that the fish wasn't fresh at all. In fact, the texture didn't resemble fish at all. Not sure what happened there. Service: The service was okay when I dined in. The food comes out individually instead of all at once. The baked salmon rolls take longer than the other rolls. Verdict: The levels of inconsistency make me reluctant in recommending SushiStop to others. It saddens me to write this three-star review but it would also be wrong to keep my five-star review when the food just isn't good anymore. Not sure if I want to come back since I've already found a great Sushi place that serves better Baked Salmon Rolls and sashimi (Mikomi Sushi in Monrovia!).
