Went for dine in Monday around 12:30pm so 1hr after opening. Not crowded at all so hostess promptly greeted and advised us we could sit at any open table. She promptly got our drink orders and provided us with the checklist menu. Only one sushi chef was working at the time. Cooked items came out first, I'm guessing because another chef was handling these dishes in the back. We got 2 orders of salmon nigiri, 1 eel nigiri, 1 trio yellowtail, salmon skin salad, baked muscles, salmon avocado roll, shrimp tempura roll, and tempura ice cream plus hot green tea. Total came out to $60 pre tip. I'd say given the quality of the food and the amount we ate, definitely cheaper maybe better to hit your local ayce joint. Tempura ice cream was probably the biggest disappointment. As you can see from the photo, it was cut in 4's and presented upside down. This was very likely to give the illusion there was more ice cream cuz the middle was a huge pile of whipped cream. Usually the ice cream is cut and presented open with the ice cream side facing you. Tricky tricky this one... Oh yea! Something's off with their ginger... It tasted soapy today, hopefully that's not a norm cuz it made my stomach feel sickly. Service was excellent. Food was just ok. read more

SushiStop isn't a place I would recommend to people who have a lot of experience with eating top-tier sushi. However, I *always* recommend SushiStop to the casual sushi eater visiting Pasadena, especially if you enjoy ordering a lot of items to try a good portion of a restaurant's menu. For the quality of this sushi, the prices are very fair. Worth it? Absolutely. I've been here three or four times, dining in twice and ordering to-go at least once. I've tried various types of their sashimi and hand rolls, aburi salmon, the popcorn shrimp roll, one of their chicken rolls, and the crunchy rice. I may have tried more, but I only have pictures of these. Each item I've tried has pleasantly surprised me. Even the blue crab hand roll was great; there were no pieces of shell to be found. Right now they have patio seating available during the pandemic. Service was slower and less attentive than before, but that's totally understandable. read more

I spent about $20 for this meal. I got spicy garlic edamame, 2 hand crab roll, California roll. Food quality- Not worth it, edamame tasted old. The crab from the handroll tasted like mush. California roll was the only thing that was ok. It took about 30 min to get my food, I ordered around 3 pm to avoid the lunch rush. read more

Came here on a Friday night, got here at 610 and got seated right away. Once we got seated we notice crowds of people coming in so we were happy we just beat the dinner rush. We ordered a number of things. Salmon truffle carpaccio, some nigiri, jalapeño poppers, dynamite roll, bay scallop roll, salmon skin salad, miso soup, edamame, and hot sake. Everything was so tasty and yummy! I really enjoyed the truffle salmon and the rolls. The salmon skin salad was good but the salmon pieces were more of salmon meat chunks rather than the skin. I would definitely come here again! read more

As a long time customer, this has been one of the worst experience ever in my past 5 years dining at sushi stop. Ordered an eel roll and ate half of it and came to find that the other half was fully burnt. Mentioned it to my waiter Amanda to see if she could do anything about it and she blamed it on me for eating half of it and not notifying her before eating half of the roll. Well sorry Amanda, didn't know I was responsible to check every piece to see if it was burnt or not. Might be wise to not complain about the $0 tip you received to your team. Everything was going well up until that point. Frans Setiawan, please educate and coach your team members to the standard Sushistop customer service, this is unacceptable. read more

I came here because it was nearby, and looking at the menu, I could get three piece sushi orders. Kind of like a mini roll. I love salmon and that's mostly what I got. The good: their prices are decent and their selection looks good. The not so good: the sushi was just okay--not the best. The seared salmon was almost cooked. The sushi rice had too much vinegar, like at those all-you-can-eat places. Kind of a get what you pay for kind of place. Between 3 and 4 stars (closer to 3). If it were a little bit easier to get to, I might be tempted to come by more often and try some different things on the menu. read more

We was in the area and decided to try this place out for the first time. We were greeted and seated as soon as we entered the restaurant and given a check off menu as well as an explanation of how their system works but they asked if we been there before. The customer service was really good too! They always checked in to make sure everything is ok. I asked for a couple refills of iced water and they brought it right away and i also asked for low sodium soy sauce which was brought out in a jiffy. We ordered the seaweed salad, california roll, salmon/avocado roll, salmon sushi, tuna hand roll, Philadelphia roll, tempura udon and a side of white rice (not pictured). The seaweed salad was quite good and wasnt salty or overly seasoned... It was super tender and didnt get caught in my teeth like most seaweed salad does and it was a really good size serving. The california roll was really good and they use fresh ingredients... The crab in the cali roll was really good and super fresh and tasted really good. The salmon/avocado roll was also really super fresh and can tell they dont use cheap fish to make it. They put very little avocado in the roll to where i couldn't really taste it much when i dipped it in the soy sauce and popped the whole thing in my mouth. I was so satisfied with the amount and portion that was given to us. The salmon sushi comes in 2 pieces per order and it was so good that we ordered another order. The rice wasnt overly sticky and the salmon was definitely cut fresh today. I can tell by the taste that the fish wasnt from days before. I was impressed by how big of a piece they give of the fish. The tuna hand roll was my least favorite especially since they use the soy paper instead of the standard seaweed wrap. I prefer the seaweed wrap more than the soy paper since there isnt much flavor if any flavor to the soy paper. The only good part is that they put fresh ingredients in the hand roll... The hand roll had tuna, seaweed salad and carrots in it and had the perfect amount of each ingredient. The other thing i like about it was that it wasnt messy. The Philadelphia roll was really good... It was so good that we ordered a second order like we did with the salmon sushi. This roll had a California roll with a dollop of cream cheese and a piece of salmon nigiri on top! They include a lemon on the side to compliment the roll... I did use the lemon on top of it and it was delicious! The way they made this roll was definitely chef kiss and is probably one of our favorite rolls (i mean since we ordered 2 orders lol). I like that they didnt put too much cream cheese which wouldve overpowered the flavor of the other ingredients! The tempura udon was perfect portion and the broth wasnt salty at all which was definitely really good. The udon noodles has the right amount of chewiness and the texture was perfect. It comes with wakame (wet seaweed), fish cake and tempura (which comes on the side) which we also liked cuz the tempura was so crunchy and wasnt heavily battered plus it wasnt oily! Overall, if youre looking for a really good sushi spot i highly recommend this place but come here as early as you can because it does get quite packed since theres only about 10 tables in total but half of them are for a party of 2. We would come back again when we're on this side of Pasadena! read more

Stopped here for lunch after a business meeting. It's a small location with a sushi bar and a few tables. The service was great. After looking at the menu and seeing how reasonable the pricing was we weren't expecting great quality fish. BUT to our surprise everything we ordered was fantastic. It definitely wasn't the best sushi we've had but it was certainly enjoyable. If you want good sushi for a reasonable price this is the place to go. Your wallet will thank you too! read more

Caught an episode of "Worth It" on Amazon Prime video where they compared 3 categories of sushi around LA in affordable, middle tier and luxury. Sushi Stop was the affordable category and since the show got us craving for sushi we're like let's go! Passed by this location many times in Old Pas, but never try til recent Covid times with a phone in order. The pictures looked great on their online menu but in person it was TINY. For the price they charge I would expect at least "normal" portion, but it looks like it was something from a kids' menu. I guess good for portion control but not for a piggy like me. haha For sushis, we ordered the crab hand roll, salmon truffle hand roll, shrimp tempura roll, albacore with miso sauce. Everything tasted decent just that it was very tiny bite size. As a side, we ordered the mini curry chicken bowl and the mini tempura udon. Surprisingly, these "mini" items were actually at normal size! So at $3.75 I thought it was a great deal! Just wish they would proportionally charge the sushis too. I guess overall a great snack, just need to order more sushis if you are really hungry. read more

Food is good, but the service was seriously lacking today. Our edamame arrived after our meal and 2 or 3 reminders. We tried to order more sushi (portions are tiny) and somehow they never put our order in. Servers were staring at us like "Why are you still here?" and eventually they figured out that they hadn't even started on the rest of our order. We cancelled what hadn't come out and left hungry after sitting in that restaurant for over an hour. When customers are trying to spend twice as much and you are not letting them, you owe apology to your owners rather than to the customers at that point. I've never seen that before. read more

This place wasn't too busy on a Sunday afternoon so it was very easy to get a table. Service was also fast and accomodating! Had high expectations because this chain was on Buzzfeed's Worth it, but they weren't quite met. The sushi itself was mostly fine, but we got everything in the picture for $40 somehow. The rice was a little stiff but the fish wasn't too fishy, but it wasn't amazingly fresh. The miso soup was pretty good though. Overall, a little too expensive for what you get and not worth it. read more

Rolls were way too small for their price it's not worth it. thoroughly disappointed and will not be coming back.

Sushistop is a Japanese restaurant that serves high quality sushi. It's not an all you can eat type but you do pay and what you pick. When we first saw this restaurant it could be confusing cause the color scheme on their sign is similar to GameStop so don't be surprised if that's GameStop. We sat down on their bar and we obverse the area especially the mural its hit Japan theme. In their menu they had takoyaki and I'm a huge takoyaki connoisseur but I had a feeling it was frozen I ask the waiter and they did say it was. That's what I appreciate when a waiter is honest you score big in my books. They had an advertisement on dessert and a 10 percent off of your order if you follow them on Instagram which was cool free dessert and price off count me in. The sushi was amazing you can taste the different from high quality over all you can eat. The dessert was ok a roll cream cake with more whipped cream on the side which is a bit bizarre cause you have a rolled cream cake and on the side more cream so your just getting a mouthful of cream but I shouldn't complain after having a free dessert. Environment 10/10 hits the feeling of a good Japanese restaurant. Price 9/10 depends the sushi you pick but the quality is what your paying for Service 10/10 friendly and honest read more

I used to frequent Sushi Stop in college and I haven't been back for years! I recently went back yesterday and I was impressed! I had forgotten what had attracted me to Sushi Stop in the first place! Good sushi at great prices. Sure it isn't super fancy sushi but for the price I think it helps hit the cravings when you're on a budget! The Crunchy spicy tuna roll and the vegetable yellowtail were my favorites of the night! I think I'll definitely be back for more! I've always wanted to try Sushi Stop since I had heard good things about it. I was running errands at old town and was hungry so wanted to try it out. I walked in and asked to place an order to go. Two of the guys that worked there were so nonchalant and seemed high. Horrible service already because that's not how you greet a customer. I placed my order anyway for a Yuzu albacore Roll with soy paper and salmon nigiri. The food looked blah. The fish didn't look like it was quality. I was starving so I ate it anyway. Afterwards, I asked to use the restroom and walked in. The place smelled so bad - like bad fish smell. I would not be coming back. read more

I'll start off with saying Sushi Stop is quick and they have some delicious food! I've had sushi all over the world but have rarely seen some of the great unique plates on this menu. It's on the Main Street in old town. They use lemon in fantastic ways and we really enjoyed the tastes of our meals. We would return- I would say the only thing is that the service was fine; in the sense that it was quick and straightforward, but nothing beyond that. No friendliness, warmth, etc just a business transaction, order, here is your plate. Order here is your plate. I think often a little warmth goes a long way in bringing more loyal customers back, especially ones that don't live in Pasadena but come back periodically. read more

Used to really like this place back when I was either in college or the earlier years of being a recent grad. This place was great for sushi at an inexpensive cost. I wouldn't say the quality is here, but if you're looking for something quick, easy, and not trying to break the bill, this is worth a shot! I remember when they first arrived in Old Town, the place was packed -- there would be a line out the door, a congregation of people standing outside. The last time I went was at night and there was no wait and it wasn't as crowded as I had remembered it to be in the years past. Our waitress was great, the food came out fast and everything was good -- it was a good experience overall. We ordered our dessert to-go because my bf wanted to have the fried tempura banana with vanilla ice cream instead of green tea (personally, I would have went with green tea). The way the banana was presented was unexpected -- I was expecting a full-sized banana intact (I wasn't sure how it would look, tbh), but it was beautifully shown in a flower design with the banana sliced (easier for eating and prettier to look at). read more

Let me start off by saying I used to ADORE Sushi Stop - this was sanctuary for my broke undergrad self circa 2011. A mystical land where all plates were $2.75 and the possibilities were endless. Fast forward to today - Sushi Stop still offers comparable prices (obviously they've went up a bit), but the quality of food has definitely gone down (or did I get older and more bougie? -- Nah, definitely the quality). The low down: - Salmon Skin Salad - This used to be my absolute favorite/go to, and it tasted off. The chunks of salmon were strangely soft/strangely flavored..couldn't quite put my finger on it. - Salmon Avocado Roll - Simple & decent! - Dynamite Roll - The scallops were plentiful, but awful. They were SUPER fishy and were extremely over cooked. Safe to say that we sent these back. - Tempura Udon - This was good, but honestly how does one mess up udon + tempura? - Spicy Albacore Chips - Solid app that still hits! Additionally, the servers were not attentive (and mind you, this was midday on a Thursday when the restaurant was not full) - they seem to have inexperienced staff that are still getting their footing. read more

If you want to starve to death, mistreated by the server, choke with a fishbone in your curry rice, this is the best place to go to! I ordered curry and grilled mussels for myself and it took them forever to serve it and when it was served (after 45mins), there is a fishbone inside the rice. When i tell it to the server named Amanda, she made me feel that it was my fault and never cared about to fix it. Making faces and didn't answer the all my question and concerns. I will not recommend this place to anyone, not because of the food but because of the service. And this is not the first it happened to me here. I gave them the benefit of the doubt the first time i was mistreated in this restaurant thinking that the server might be having a bad shift but it seems like they are really consistent on giving their customer a bad service! Location/Parking: Located near the border of Old Town Pasadena. There are parking garages nearby on the side streets (90 minutes free parking). Background: I have eaten in store maybe five times and ordered takeout nearly ten times. I keep coming back for the Baked Salmon Rolls. Ambiance: A pretty small restaurant with maybe enough to sit a total of 25 people. It's always busy during nighttime and it has never had empty tables based on my visits. I ordered: Baked Salmon Roll (3.5/5) - This is really a hit or miss. Sometimes, it tastes amazing while other times, it tastes bland and overcooked. If you look at my previous review, I talked about how much I loved this stuff so it disappoints me when the food is, well, merely disappointing. It seems like I like this dish less and less every time I order it. Dynamite Roll (2/5) - This was terrible. The scallops were flavorless and had some weird rubbery texture. I have tasted fresh, well cooked scallops before and they were the complete opposite of this. Scallops should be delicate and juicy, not like this. Again, I feel like the last time I tried this, it was really good but now, everything has gone downhill. Baked Mussels (4/5) - These were fine. They reminded me of the ones I would love at seafood buffets. Not really anything special but I'm just glad they didn't mess it up. Tempura Udon (2/5) - First of all, the tempura is inedible. This might make me sound inexperienced but I bit into one piece and literally could not tell if it was supposed to be a carrot or a sweet potato. I could barely bite into it because of how hard and undercooked it was, so I'm assuming it was a carrot, I don't even know. Do people make tempura from carrots? Idk, but that was a really terrible piece of sweet potato then... The pumpkin (I think?) was also undercooked, it was really hard to eat and I ended up not finishing it. The two other pieces of tempura were OK. The udon tasted OK as well, not anything special. Of course, this was all only $3.50, but what's the point in spending $3.50 on tempura udon if the tempura sucks? Yellowtail Chili Ponzu (2.5/5) - AGAIN, this was good the first time I tried it, which is why I ordered it again. The second time I ordered it, something was definitely off. The texture of the fish was dry and weird so I'm assuming that the fish wasn't fresh at all. In fact, the texture didn't resemble fish at all. Not sure what happened there. Service: The service was okay when I dined in. The food comes out individually instead of all at once. The baked salmon rolls take longer than the other rolls. Verdict: The levels of inconsistency make me reluctant in recommending SushiStop to others. It saddens me to write this three-star review but it would also be wrong to keep my five-star review when the food just isn't good anymore. Not sure if I want to come back since I've already found a great Sushi place that serves better Baked Salmon Rolls and sashimi (Mikomi Sushi in Monrovia!). Contrary to the price listed on Yelp, they raised the prices of dishes from $2.95 to $3.50. It seems cheap but the portions are really small so you can VERY EASILY spend $15-20 here. Not really worth the money. read more

Amazing bang for your buck! I placed an order through uber eats and picked up at the designated time. My order consisted of 16 California rolls and 4 pieces salmon sushi. All this for under $12!!! Yummy yummy for my tummy! Food was delicious and service was excellent. Food tasted amazing.

Came here on a Thursday evening, was not crowded at all but lots of delivery orders. My first bite was the tuna nigiri sampler and it was horrible. The tuna was bitter, not fresh. They gave 2 pieces of the same low fatty tuna. Was not pleasant. The third piece, I thought it would be fatty tuna. It seemed different but not amazing at all. The other rolls were acceptable but by no means very enjoyable. 2 rolls and 2 nigiri samples came out to approximately $27. Good thing I didn't get their sashimi; would have been an absolute waste. This was an extremely average meal that really did not leave me craving for more. Would not recommend at all. read more

Good sushi for reasonable prices. Each roll has 4 pieces and they have specialty rolls which I tried all of them. I really enjoyed eating them all so you can't go wrong with whatever you choose.
