Handrolls were properly rolled, not too much rice. Fish was as fresh as it could be. This is a new restaurant so I'd like to give them many more stars, but I wasn't even allowed to enter. The website clearly lists a dress code so we were aware of this before going. I showed up with a friend, both of us wearing jeans, a clean shirt, no sneakers or athletic gear. The first person we encountered upon entering was a security guard who, before greeting us, told us flat out that we were dressed inappropriately and couldn't enter. When I pointed out several people in the dining room wearing jeans and actual sneakers we were told that it didn't matter and we still didn't make the grade. After a baseball-capped and jean'd gentleman walked out and a woman wearing jewel encrusted platform shoes entered, we gave up. I give them 1 star because from what we could see from the outside the dining room looked pretty cool, and it smelled like good food was present somewhere inside. But hey guys, you're not on P.C. This being my first trip to Amsterdam and the Netherlands in general, I was SOOO SOOO SOOO happy that Sushi Samba - a familiar name for this American - had an excellent location on the canal, next to a casino and spectacularly designed. I enter a nearly empty restaurant to be greeted by a lady who is looking me up and down before saying that they are fully booked. I'm not wearing sneakers or jeans so am a bit surprised. I can take a seat at the empty bar or outside. Another lady shows me the rest of the restaurant, which is unnecessary since i am not going to sit where ever she takes me. She escorts me to a table on the terrace, another colleague will take my order. Lovely guy, if it wasn't for his thick yet lovely french accent. I just nod and smile when we ask him what he recommends. His recommendations are not bad at all, tempura bean sprouts, with some truffle dip, a fish role, which he thought was the best choice, pork belly sushi, peruvian patatas bravas. Amazing interior design and ambience. This alone takes five stars coupled with good drinks and good food.

This was easily the best sushi dinner I've ever had. We started with the gyoza which was perfectly seasoned and seared. Next we had the yellowfish taquitos (mini tacos). These were absolutely delicious - well balanced, fresh, and vibrant. We got three sushi rolls (of which I cannot recall the names) and they were all fantastic. Make sure you don't wear a hat. We ( my wife and mother in law)were told in a pretty rude way that hats were not allowed, even before being seated. And it's pretty chilly this time of the year in Amsterdam. Can't tell you much about the food this time ( I've had dinner here before though and it was ok), as we walked out.... A bit more sophisticated strategy on how to enforce house rules would have improved your revenue by at least 4 customers today. A pity. read more

I really wanted to like this place. The place is gorgeous, right by the canal, music bumping, excellent decor, great looking staff, Japanese-Brazilian fusion food, whats there not to like right. Well the service is pretty bad. We got our orders taken and our server did not come back for about 30-40 mins later, until after our food came. The big isssue is we didn't even have any silverware to eat, not even a glass of water, so we sat there pretty much staring at our food. Silverware and glasses of water should be taken care of first not at the end? Food: The food not only took a really long time, but it was not that great. If you are going to charge at these prices it must be good, or atleast good service, nope and nope. This place has so much potential, and I do believe the other locations like Miami are gonna be whole lot better. Maybe its the laid back Amsterdam vibe, but when your spending $700+ for dinner with friends I expect alot more :( Theres alot of good food in Amsterdam, don't get fooled into coming here... I have ate sushi in the Las Vegas location several times. I spoke with the manager to give my compliments to the staff in Las Vegas. I was excited upon arrival to Sushi Samba, Amsterdam. The staff in Amsterdam is very attentive too. However, the food at this location can't compare to Las Vegas. My excitement quickly faded as the roll arrived. I didn't enjoy my El Topo roll. Normally, I would have four rolls followed by a Large Plate of Sea Bass. I only had one roll tonight, before deciding to exit Sushi Samba. I waited for alomst 40 minutes. The waiter never came back. I had to leave the table to inquire about my roll. He still didn't bring it. After a while, They sent Rachael over who seem to makeup for the poor skills of first male waiter. She tried to ensure that we were happy. I had to dine at another restaurant immediately after. I wish them the best of luck with their version of Sushi Samba. I won't be recommending this location. Outrageously-priced menu and totally pretentious. Definitely not run by Japanese or even knows what they are doing. I get the "fusion" concept but seriously failed. None of the waitresses understood Sake menu when spoken in native Japanese pronunciation -- slowly. I didn't even bother ordering sushi or rolls. I had sort of Italian (seafood and green risotto) that tasted like more of Thai's TomKa type dish, and paid Japanese price (plus a lot more). Seriously they exists because of location.
