I know this is a big statement, but this might have been the best sushi that I have ever had. Ever. I was a walk in on a Tuesday night and grabbed a seat at the bar. Everything on the menu looked so delicious but I went with a few recommendations from the server and bartender. The oysters were delicious! From Ireland apparently. They came three to an order and whatever brine they were in was so tasty. The info in this review might be a little lacking because I cannot remember the name of a single thing I ate, but it really was SO good. I got one roll with salmon and another with scallop, but were torched after served and I loved that they were served warm. Everything did take just a little bit of time to come out, so they kindly brought over a bowl of edamame. I wasn't in a rush so I didn't mind at all (but obviously loved the surprise edamame). The space was cozy and perfect for a date, solo night like I had, girls dinner, whatever. If you love sushi, you are going to want to make a reservation here. read more

We were in one of of those "we need to eat immediately or we will perish" and randomly popped into KU - lucky us! They were packed but kindly squeezed us in and made great recommendations. I'm pretty sure everything on the menu is great but we had a few of the sushi rolls and they were so good. Definitely go if you're starving to death - or not! read more

Found this place online and made a reservation in advance before my trip. We ended up coming in a little early and were able to be seated right away. It's a pretty small and unassuming spot, but I loved that the vibe inside felt cozy. My friend and I ordered the sticks n' sushi for two which included edamame and sashimi as an appetizer, a sample of a few of their rolls, seaweed salad, eggplant nanban, and yakitori sticks, and finally a dessert to share. For 55 euros this was a great deal and plenty of food for the two of us. The sashimi was some of the freshest I've ever had and same for the rolls. The yakitori was also good, but the sushi was the real star. We enjoyed some wine with the meal as well that was very good. Service was a little slow, but it did get really busy after we were seated as it was a Friday night. Next time I'm in town I will definitely be back and try more of the sushi options. read more

This review is not about KU Kitchen's restaurant but about their spicy veggie tantanmen that they served at the Amsterdam Ramen Festival on February 17, 2019. I had an opportunity to meet 3 members of their team at the festival who were all very warm & friendly. The experience only got better from there. The moment I saw my bowl of tantanmen I knew I was in for a surprise. It was filled to the brim with more ingredients than I could count, including several veggies and a milky broth made from soy milk. I took my bowl outside and sat along a canal (because where else should I enjoy this beautiful dish on a sunny Amsterdam afternoon?) ...And then I took my first bite...and nearly fell in the canal. "Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god" is all I could say (and I was sitting alone so you could imagine what the people standing next to me were thinking). Let me put it this way - I have eaten over 100 bowls of ramen at 80 restaurants around the world (including Japan), and this was easily one of the best. From the perfectly cooked noodles to the multi-textured veggies and creamy broth, I was figuratively (and literally?) in heaven. It was so good that I walked all the way back to the festival to purchase a second bowl. **The thing is, this was the FIRST time they ever served this dish. They do not offer the dish (or anything similar) at their restaurant. They decided to test out something new and maybe, just maybe, would start offering it at their restaurant if it was well-received at the festival. ***What further evidence do you need? It was AMAZING and everyone I spoke to at the festival also loved every bite, sip and slurp. ****Here is my offer to you: If you add this to your menu (or even as a special), I will bring in a group of at least 12 fellow foodies to sample it. 4 stars! For obvious reasons- service, food, atmosphere combo. We were 8 people that night, and need to say it's not really easy to get a table in Ams for 8. The place not only handled hosting 8, they also did serve very well. We had 7 course chef's menu and all dishes were veeery good! The menu costs 25 per each but with drinks it costed us 45 which was totally worth it! In short, KU kitchen is definitely a go&try Japanese in the city. read more

Really great selection of drinks (try the yuzu sake and the plum wine) and very friendly, warm staff! I often bring my friends from out of town here for a drink as it's a relaxed place, away from the touristey centre but close enough to walk to from it, that is guaranteed to show you a good time. Together with some other Yelpers I was lucky enough to get a spot at the opening night of KU Kitchen, a fusion of cocktail bar and modern asian cuisine. When you enter, you directly stand at the beginning of the cocktail bar. Fortunately they left enough space for the people sitting and standing in front of the bar as well as for the ones who want to pass to have some bites. In the back of the room there are seats from where you can watch the chefs preparing the food. I'm not an expert when it comes to seafood but I have to say the things they offered (different types of sushi, oysters, breaded prawns etc.) were really tasty. And I liked their oysters better than the ones at some Ampersand Gault Millau location. The service was friendly and attentive and the DJ chose the right music to get me into a nice pre-weekend-looking-forward-to-going-out-mood. I imagine this to be a place where you go to with your friends or colleagues for some after-work drinks, have a great time with nice food and music, and when you walk out you notice that it's already after midnight. read more

After the Yelp event a while ago, I went to KU Kitchen & Bar for the 2nd time... And I must say, it was really worth it! The service was very attend and the bartender checked on us whether we are receiving the food on time and asked us a few times if we liked the food. For dinner we have chosen for the Chefs Table, which means that we get 2 big platters with different kind of sushi (california roll, hand rolls etc.) and some delicious skewers with shrimps, yakitori. Next to this we also get tempura shrimps and some salted 'beans'. I also definitely recommend you to try their awesome Japanese beer! read more

Came here last night for my friend's birthday. Could not have been happier with this restaurant! The edamame and gyoza were impeccable and every roll was absolutely delicious. I had dinner with some colleagues here. I'm a sushi addict and we decided to try some place new. I liked the atmosphere and design of the place. The food menu is a bit small and looks good although I must say the cocktail menu was limited and a bit disappointing. The bartender was able to make 'an old fashioned' that wasn't on the menu but it wasn't very good. (I just checked their website and see we must have only gotten a menu with the seasonal cocktails and not the full one with originals) Ku has got a sushi bento box with 10 maki's, 2 nigiri's and 2 tempura shrimp for €12,50. It tasted good and fresh. I also tried the avocado cashew roll and softshell crab roll; they were so yummie. One of my colleagues was eating a chicken spring roll that looked delicious. The Kayuza chicken another colleague ordered was a bit disappointing as a main. I think the prices for food in this place are great, the cocktails a bit expensive. The atmosphere is nice and it's a great place to eat sushi at if you don't want to go to an all you can eat. I'm definitely coming again. read more

Tried to come in for dinner (for 1 person). Host was very rude and told me it was too busy. When I noticed an open space at the bar and asked if I could sit and eat there, he said no it was not available and they are too crowded. I asked if I could put my name in or wait for someone to get up and he said it would be at least an hour and a half. Mind you I saw a couple at the bar ask for their bill while I was standing there talking to the incompetent and rude gentleman at the host stand. Was looking forward to trying the food, but unfortunately I did not get a chance to. I wouldn't recommend this place and don't ever see myself returning after the way I was treated. read more

Great sushi at reasonable prices. We ordered two of the chef rolls, the California roll, tempura, and the sushi platter with the chef's selection along with edamame as an appetizer. We ate every bite (family of 5)! There was nothing we did not enjoy. Great contemporary Japanese. Cocktails are awesome too. Highly suggested dishes: sashimi combo, very fresh and well presented. Sweet potato tempura, spicy tuna salad is a must. King Ku Berger is delicious. Rolls on the other hand, are probably average. Service is attentive and courteous. read more
