Thanks to Iago from NJoy, we heard about this soeakeasy and decided to check it out. Reservations recommended. Carlota who answered the doorbell, was able to accommodate us at the bar (our preferred seating anyway). She took our coats, placed them in the coat closet up front and led us inside. Once seated, we were given gorgeous ruby red complimentary aperitif (hibiscus, honey, ginger). The drink menu is interesting, based on the concept of growing up, with more basic tastes to start and more mature complex tastes later on in life. (The drinks are more complex the later in the menu). I ordered the Awake at Last, and my husband ordered the Ruby Stone. Mine was sweet and coffee flavored and his was more tart and sour cherry flavored. When I tried his drink, I immediately felt nostalgic because it reminded me of umeboshi (pickled plum in Japanese food), so we ended up trading drinks. Both were great for supping. Sitting at the bar was fun, watching the bartender at his work. He was silent, focused, skilled, professional. So glad we checked it out! This place is a speak easy where we found the hidden door and rang the bell. We didn't have reservations but they let us share a booth for 45 mins. They brought us a welcome cocktail to cleanse the palette and explained the menu. The servers/bartenders were very knowledgeable regarding what drinks could be made GF. My husband and his coworkers stumbled upon this bar, and it ended up being one of the coolest experiences we had in Amsterdam. The setting perfectly embodies the city; filled with historical photos, themed rooms that resemble the Red Light District, and a bar area that reminded me of one of Amsterdam's famous parks. While the drinks are on the pricier side, they are absolutely worth it. I ordered the Cosmo from the menu, and my husband and others had Old Fashioned's and whiskey sours. The presentation was incredible, the Old Fashioned arrived in a smoking treasure chest, which was such a fun and memorable touch. This place strikes the perfect balance between fun and classy. The speakeasy concept is ringing a doorbell for someone to answer, then descending down a flight of stairs to a dimly lit cozy lounge area. This speakeasy had very intimate seating for romantic conversation, but as a large group, they still accommodate us well. The bartenders (2 of them) were super friendly and did their best to keep up with the orders coming in. The cocktails were fantastic - intricate and just the right amount of alcohol strength where you knew it was there but it wasn't overpowering. My girl and I really liked the bar at this restaurant. We stopped in here for a quick drink before going out to party for the night and were greeted and served by a lovely little Mexican lady. We were at a table shared with other people. This might be common throughout. It didn't seem too crowded though. We were quickly given menus and water. We tried two different drinks each. I felt that both of mine were very sweet. I think I ordered poorly perhaps? I tried asking the waiter about the drinks before ordering but didn't get clarity. I maybe should've asked to create something off menu for me. They do offer this! Neither drink I got are ones I'll be wanting again. The bar manager at The Tailor suggested we check out this speakeasy bar. It was easy enough to find but I was worried they won't have room for us. Turns out, it's much easier to get into a popular bar in Amsterdam than in New York or Berlin. I heard about this place online and love the idea of speakeasies so I had to check it out. The door was a little hard to find, which added to the excitement. There are some intimate tables around as well as a long bar area and a shareable table. The employees were very nice and the bartenders made delicious drinks and made good conversation. Door 74 is a really well done speakeasy. So well done, that I was convinced this place had gone out of business. Passing by, you would never know this bar existed. We had heard of Door 74 when researching nightlife in Amsterdam prior to our trip, but we did not realize how difficult it would be to find. The effort proved well worth it, as this bar is truly special. I'm glad we didn't give up and kept looking for it. Once inside, you'll be greeted by a dark interior and impeccable service. The atmosphere does feel a bit exclusive, and undoubtedly high end. We did not have reservations, but luckily they had availability at the bar the night we came. The cocktail menu will have your tastebuds watering. This isn't the cheapest bar in town, but the quality far exceeds any of its neighbors. I didn't take any pictures inside, but trust me when I say this bar is worth visiting. It was certainly a unique stand out from our stay in Amsterdam. The bartender was very friendly. read more

The bartender was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. It was so fun watching him make the drinks. My husbands favorite drinks was the old fashioned. Mine were the sunrise/sunset and the milk wash drink ( oh on the menu but ask for it). They also make their own blue cheese olives that were the best I have veer tasted. I highly recommend Door 74. This was by far the best cocktail bar I visited in Amsterdam. I stopped in twice on my visit there. The first night the bartender Lucas was super nice and was happy to make you anything you wanted on or off the menu. The place has a speakeasy feel and is not super big, so if you are going late or on a weekend you may want to make a reservation. The second time I went Kevin (award winning bartender) was there and was happy to talk about his experience creating new cocktails and competing in bartending competitions, it was clear he loves what he does and is happy to share his love of craft cocktails with you. Cute speakeasy in the heart of Amsterdam. We tried to go one night and couldn't get in, were told to message on KIK / FB the day we wanted to visit in order to secure a reservation. That process was fairly smooth, they responded quickly, and we were able to get in at the time we wanted. The drinks themselves were quite tasty, if you could find one that fit your tastes. The menu wasn't huge but you could tell a lot of thought went into the drinks. Some of the cocktails were perhaps a bit too adventurous for me but it looks like the menu changes all the time so it's hard to give any specific recommendations or things to avoid. I would definitely recommend coming in for at least one drink just to check out the ambiance and try something off their menu, but probably wouldn't plan to spend too long here. read more

The speakeasy seen exists in Amsterdam! We met a couple friends at Door 74 and knocked on an inconspicuous door and a small flap opened with peering eyes at us. The door opened and we gave our name then entered into a dark lounge with lounge versions of famous songs (NSYNC's bye bye bye was on being song by a lady). We checked our coats and were led to past the bar and small private booths to a table for 8 in the rear. The waitress brought us a carafe of water, some glasses and little pink books with a blue door and the number 74 on it. Inside the book are the rules of the establishment, the story of the bar and a very unique blend of customized drinks. You can always ask for a classic or a beverage of your request to see if they can make it. They offer an assortment of olives and a mix of nuts for free with your beverages. The speakeasy is dark and music is loud to drown out other conversations. The liquor is strong and everyone sits down, no standing, and beat of all...it is not over crowded! This was one of the first "speakeasy" bars I've ever been to in Europe many years ago. I remember when they were still fairly new, and this place continues to improve over time. I think its definitely a solid choice of what a speakeasy bar should be like. They have a theme, the venue is great, it's got a dark ambiance but it's not so dark you can't see the menu or the drinks. The bartenders are friendly, service is good and they're incredibly knowledgeable about liquor and all things cocktails and mixology. You do need a reservation and you can get one same day before 8pm. They're typically relatively accommodating although it could be much worse now that it's so touristy. Highly recommend that you stop by for at least one drink! read more

That's where we like sitting, anyway! ---- Crossing the threshold of the entryway into Door 74 was crossing the Atlantic in a single step. This joint would easily fit in with the likes of Deep Ellum, Violet Hour, or Flatiron Lounge. A cosy bar, semi-private booths, and frighteningly overburdened shelves laden with booze were a welcome sight indeed! All those bottles of alcohol aren't just for show, either. I find that a fair test of any bartender is to give them free reign with their creativity and to see how it turns out. After my sampling of their well-balanced cocktail of the day, I requested my typical not-sweet coloured-liquor base spirit drink. The result was a luscious concoction featuring aged genever, sweet vermouth, Fernet, and orange bitters. Most parts potent and all parts precisely what I'd hoped for. It's a shame that The Netherlands only boasts of a single quality craft cocktail destination, but it's reassuring that the only one they have is world class. We really enjoyed this place. We went pretty early, and didn't have a reservation, so they were able to serve us. Cocktails are quite inventive. They are definitely not cheap, but they do serve olives and other goodies with the drinks (I'm not sure if it's law to do that in Amsterdam, as it is law in some US states). Anyways, the wait staff was quite friendly with us and talked to us about some of the goings ons in Amsterdam around the holidays we were visiting during. Make reservations if going later in the evening (their reservation system is a bit odd, but seems to work), and don't be deterred by the completely unnoticeable entrance to the bar. Don't be afraid to ring the doorbell to enter, but be careful it's the right one, since there's sign from people saying not to ring theirs since it is to their house and not the bar! read more

My first one was great, second one not too bad but the third one was a cocktail that shouldn't exist; like drinking strong herbal cough syrup. See, I'm so smart that I didn't pass up the non descriptive door. I saw a few people hanging in front, so I assumed I had arrived. They mainly take you with reservations only, but traveling solo allowed me the opportunity to hunker down @ the bar. The menu is very creative, since it changes seasonally. Additionally, they go by theme. This season, they where featuring a New Orleans theme. The drinks where very creative and delicious. The bar staff is friendly, And great at recommending drinks. Disappointed:( just left Door74 with a sour taste... Door74 was a always a highlight when visiting Amsterdam. After finally it reopened after the pandemic, we excitedly arrived in time for our reservation, made one month in advance. Upon arrival, we were told that we were guaranteed our spot for one hour only. After that we were offered to share a table with another couple, while sitting on a walkway to the bathroom. Sharing a tiny table with strangers would be super awkward as we were looking for a quiet romantic evening on our last night in Amsterdam. Two empty seats at the bar were refused to us. Apparently they do honor some reservations for two people, but not ours, even though we made the reservation way in advance. The hostess was not accommodating and said that finding a seat for us would be extremely difficult. On the way out we saw plenty of tables for four with couples only that we were not asked to share the space. Seems like they need to learn how to manage the reservation system. We were looking forward to try the creations but were forced to leave barely finishing one drink. read more
