My husband and I were in Zürich before coming to Amsterdam and met a friend who is from Amsterdam. He recommended Pulitzer's Bar- so we immediately called and made a reservation. We were going on a boat tour that afternoon, to see all the light installations, so we made sure the timing was right to get to Pulitzer's on time! We had a 6:00 reservation, and got there promptly and found the door that we were to enter. The door was locked, but there was a sign that said 'please wait, someone will be with you soon'. Our wait was very short, and someone promptly came, greeted us and took us to our seats at the bar. Because a reservation, I believe is required, (not 200% about that), we were wondering if it would be a bit stuffy. It was not at all, everyone that we spoke to was very friendly, and great service at the bar. There were other couch settings and a few different set ups, but as usual, we love the bar. Our drinks were fabulous and we tried three of their menu items- only have appetizers, but they were very good. In talking to my sister and her husband, after we returned home, who had just been to Amsterdam, I realized that they stayed at the Pulitzer hotel, which we did not know when we were there. They loved the hotel - so I can give a recommendation for that as well. They said all the rooms are different and they really loved their room. I think everyone would really enjoy a stay at the Pulitzer hotel and definitely get a reservation to Pulitzer's bar- you won't be disappointed. read more

A nice chill hotel bar where you can recharge after a long day of sightseeing. I got the Avant-garde Caipirinha, which was absolutely delicious. I also got a selection of Dutch cheeses and the sourdough bread, which was delightful and surprisingly filling. The atmosphere is so romantic and quiet - which was much appreciated after a long day. Amazing service, beautiful setting. The menu was well done and each of the speciality cocktails were based on characters from Murder on the Orient Express, each with a fun description and "alibi." We went with The Salesman and The Maid, which were both good and served in picturesque glassware, but did not blow me away. The Maid our favorite between the two. Had the pleasure of visiting Pulitzer Bar twice on our trip to Amsterdam. The first time it was accidental and just passed through, to be pleasantly surprised. The second time, we came back because it was so great the first time around. All servers were amazingly attentive and we're constantly checking on our group to make sure there was nothing anything else we needed. The cocktails we're also on point. The setting is nice and relaxing, so it made for an excellent experience overall. Very sexy, cozy hotel bar. Tucked away from the concierge and foyer so you feel like you're in a library nook at Columbia University. The night we visited was a Sunday and it was lively but not loud. The first thing you'll notice about this place is the beautifully designed interior and amazingly framed art. Once you belly up to the bar you're greeted by friendly service and a couple complimentary snacks to much on, always well received. I tried a couple different versions of the classic cocktail, "the gibson" and they were delicious. There's an awesome spirit list and the local gins were beautiful. He asked me what I wanted to pay, and with this being my first trip to Amsterdam I'd read many blogs on the lack of tipping culture so added an extra 5 euros to the tab. The mood changed instantly. He didn't say another word, took the card machine and left. Everything about this spot was fine, except the bartender. Everyone was waiting, servers were lined up impatiently waiting for their guests' drinks to be made. Servers were going behind the bar and pouring beers, yelling the bartender what was next and generally frustrated. It was a really bad experience...and I just had draft beer. I recently organized an event with a group of my coworkers and needed to find a local bar for the venue. I saw the great reviews online and decided to give this place a shot. I called ahead to make sure they could accommodate our party and if there would be any issues. They said they don't take reservations but it wouldn't a problem. When our group arrived they came up with new rules that no one could stand in the bar area. Before people arrived they set us up in the hotel hallway next to the bathroom. That part of the "bar" is not shown in the online photos for a reason. It also had no air conditioning during a hot summer night. After I spoke with the management they basically said too bad. They gave a silly reason, saying it was for "safety". Yet we ended up blocking two of the three fire exits. We spent over a thousand Euros in a couple of hours and the main bar was empty, yet we weren't allowed to be in that room that you see in the online photos. The place has pros: Good cocktails (although very pricey) and the actual bar looks very nice with a great atmosphere (not the bathroom hallway). I give this place one star because the staff and management were very rude, gave false information prior to the event, and lied to my face about their "policies" after the event had started. I strongly urge you not to go here with a group. If there are only two of you, maybe it's better; however, the management and staff do not care about service or your experience. There are plenty of good bars in Amsterdam, I suggest going somewhere else. read more
