    Tempura roll with mango

Kagetsu is really a nice and cozy place to enjoy some really good sushi/ sashimi and hot dishes! When you enter this place, you almost feel like you are in a tiny restaurant in Tokyo! Service was also very friendly, even though he didn't recommend any thing when he handed us the menu. The menu is very diverse with lots of recommended menu's, sushi, sashimi, hot and cold dishes and even bento box for as lunch! We ordered in total 7 different dishes with Japanese tea and it was around €35 per person. But it was value the money, because the sushi was really good! Especially the Tempura roll and Unagi roll! Sashi salmon was good, however it was a bit t sliced too big in my opinion. Other recommendations: Takoyaki, famous dish in Japan, which is a like a ball-shaped of a wheat flour-based batter and cooked in a special takoyaki pan. It is filled with minced or diced octopus.

One bad review is downgrading this delicious and stylish restaurant. We had an excellent meal here- delicious nigiri selection and the caterpillar roll was heaven. Avocados were perfect. Fish was fresh and well cut. For Japanese fans, this is a great spot and for real aficionados it will do the trick. The service was quick, friendly and discrete. The decor is cozy, nice wooden exposed beams and interesting divisions on three floors. Great neighbourhood, excellent food and worth a return visit for sure.

This was a gorgeous little Japanese restaurant in the Nine Streets that I never even knew about but let me tell you, it's deliciously gorgeous! From the moment we were welcomed in, to the moment we walked out, filled to the brim! Food arrived in a perfect stream so my guests and I were able to talk and giggle but not be bombarded with (or wait forever for) food. The decor inside was a bit of a tight squeeze with the other tables around but like the Dutch are so fond of saying, it was proper gezellig! Besides, it was so uniquely Japanese with just the right blend of Dutch (you'll notice the tile work in the doorway) that it'll charm anyone! We ordered a variety of sushi, noodles and fried up goodies - unagi, salmon, tempura ebi and avocado nigiri, fried egg noodles with chicken and finally, my favourite and also quite hard to find in Japanese restaurants in Amsterdam, takoyaki with a side of gyoza and edamame! And of course we finished up with green tea ice cream and daifuku / mochi ice cream! Everything was fresh, tasty and beautifully prepared. Exactly what you're looking for in a Japanese restaurant! We also spied some nice out door seating which I think would be perfect if it stopped raining in Amsterdam long enough for us to enjoy it.. so maybe tomorrow?

After a coffeeshop visit, I was seriously craving tonkatsu real bad. This restaurant was near our hotel and luckily satisfied my craving. The sushi rolls are a bit big but the tonkatsu is crispy, delicious, and comes with the usual sauce that we know and love with some mayo as well. The ambiance is nice too.

It's just not that great. Nothing wrong, just not that great. Food was fine, just not that great. The service was so-so, and the restaurant was empty even, just not that great. Bento box was good, just not that great. So. I'll keep looking for a really good Japanese restaurant. E*

This is a cozy little japanese restaurant in the Negen Straatjes. I stopped in for lunch. The food is excellent. I had an unagi roll bento box for lunch that came with salad, gyoza and miso soup. It's really got a nice cozy atmosphere to it that is comfortable and welcoming. I checked the menu for dinner items and found more than a few I'd like to try. Prices were moderate. The service was good but I was the only one in there so I've no idea what it'd be like when they're busy. There are a couple of tables outside if you prefer. They are dog friendly if they're slow

Hot sake and Kani hand roll. Delicious!
    H M.

Hand rolls are delicious and fresh, with crisp nori sheets and tasty accompaniments. Ramen soup however was just ok. Hot sake just what I wanted on a drizzly spring day, and upstairs seating area cozy and cute.

Come on in.... this is great Japanese Food right here in Amsterdam

Outstanding Japanese Food. A good find in Amsterdam. The food is fresh and very authentic. Narrow restaurant reminds me of Japan. Highly recommended

Normally I don't expect too much from all-you-can-eat sushi place, but the experience here is an exception. Every item was freshly prepared per order. You are not picking out half cold food from a buffet. You are picking 4 items at a time. The chef makes them with warm rice and crispy seaweed. Once you finish a round, you can pick 4 more, and so forth. I liked every item I tasted: Eel sushi Salmon (both sushi and sashimi) Tuna sashimi Grilled sea bass Wonton soup with shrimp BBQ spare ribs BBQ Peking duck The staff are very nice and attentive. My body was craving something with actual nutritional value, and the Asian food scene was so strong here that we thought finding a sushi place seemed like a good idea. Indeed it was. Geisha is a really nice restaurant - dark and swanky, it was definitely a great place to have a meal. I also really dug the bar, which was super swanky and glass. This restaurant has a fairly limited sushi menu, but what we had was very good and fresh. But the dim sum menu was really the star of the show. We got iberico pork suimai which was REALLY good. And then the shrimp dumplings were also really delicious. The beef dumplings were also good but were pretty greasy and our least favorite. In addition I ordered the miso soup, which was possibly the best miso I have ever had. It was clearly made to order and came with a pool of lovely mushrooms - two kinds. It was absolutely delicious. Our waitress, who was the manager or owner was OK. She didn't write anything down and then had to come back to our table to verify our order. I also was somewhat disappointed that they charge you for tap water here (we were charged per little bottle they brought to the table). But other than that, it was truly a very nice meal.

Sumo Sushi & Grill was located conveniently close to our hotel, and with a sushi craving hitting me hard, I talked everyone into coming here for a late lunch. While they do have a la carte options, I felt like the all you can eat was a better deal, especially if you plan on ordering more than a couple items. Their fish selection is pretty limited, but I was excited that they had a decent number of tuna items. I went a little hard on that and ordered a bunch of tuna cut rolls and nigiri. They do have a lot of rules at this place, though we found the ordering process pretty straight forward, and the waiter was pretty helpful in explaining everything. There are only a couple items on the menu that cost extra, but be careful. Overall, I thought the sushi quality was pretty disappointing. The tuna nigiri was especially bad, with the tuna rolls being a little more appetizing. If looking for a sushi restaurant in Amsterdam, you can probably do better than this, at least I hope. If you don't mind low quality fish, this place will suffice, however, if you are used to good sushi, you'll likely be disappointed. Food aside, service and ambiance were both nice. No complaints in that department.

But the limitations and restrictions on the "all you can eat" aspect of it really bring it down. You can only order 5 times, like 5 pieces of sushi or 5 things. They have options, but not THAT many. Also, you're time restricted etc. It just makes everything less fun and kind of a pain. The portions are also small, so I mean, it really wasn't all I could eat.

Both times I had the all you can eat menu, however I believe that now they only have this available for dinner. Trust me though, I went with some big eaters, and we were all done after about 15 each. You won't find yourself lacking The great thing is that you can choose from an abundance of items, not just the most inexpensive things. As a result, we were feasting on sashimi, sushi rolls, all kinds of meats and seafoods, as well as desserts. You cans also choose soups and noodle dishes too.
