But Syl's review sold it. And he's right! Really decent sushi and at a pretty good price. €21 for an all-you-can-eat dinner and believe me, I got value out of it. (They also do a €25 "deluxe", but I did fine with the "basic".) The food kept coming and there was no hesitation when I ordered a fourth round. The menu is pretty clear, with pictures of the food and the numbers. Just order away. Don't go completely crazy because you do have to eat everything you order. There's no take-away at the end. I had temaki (loaded with smoked eel!), gunkan with roe, and just a ton of salmon, tuna, octopus and even mackerel. Sitting at the bar, I could see it being prepared and it's all very clean and very organized. Note: I had a Kirin, figuring Japanese beer with Japanese food. Since Amsterdam isn't Japan, Kirin is imported. €4 for sticker shock! That's like $5.50 in real money! No wifi, but the TV behind the sushi bar was tuned to the Eurosports channel. Very friendly staff, all of whom spoke not just Dutch but also Japanese (to some Japanese tourists) and English. I would absolutely return!

for a japanese place inside centraal station, i would say this place is not bad…read more gave it 4 stars coz the food was above average...portions were generous...staff was very nice....prices were typical...and ambiance was amazing for train station standards...but the best part was the view from the dining room. i have to give kudos to my server too for helping me out with directions by using his own phone and even writing it down on paper for me. plus, he also engaged my son and chatted about online gaming...made us feel really welcome and at home. ordered the pork shoyu ramen + chicken gyoza for side dish ( lunch promo) yakitori w/ rice and soup, beef teri on rice and soup, and "waffu" steak with rice and soup.... ramens broth was aromatic and rich...a little on the salty side though so more water was need...noodles were cooked perfectly , shoyu pork was tender and succulent, soft boiled egg was done right as well. only funny thing i noticed is they placed bok choy in it...lol. never seen bok choy on ramen, but maybe thats the chinese touch given by the owners whom i think could be chinese/viet . chicken gyoza was done right too...crispy bottom and served with a tangy dipping sauce. beef teri was done well too. good portion. came pipping hot and flavour was there. miso soup was good too. chicken yakitori came with 3 sticks and generous chicken chunks...chicken was not seasoned that well. would taste bland without the sauce for sure. but overall, it was satisfying and not bad. the beef "waffu" was really a piece of steak with sauce...steak was done well..tender and seasoned well. sauce did not overpower the steak. it was juicy and not dry. no free tea service - bummer for me :( but, dining was complemented with a spectacular view of amsterdam harbour, with boats passing by and nice buildings, as well as people walking and biking....classic ..very classic! washrooms were super clean. but overall, when hungry in amsterdam centraal station, look his place up. you wont be dissappointed! i highly recommend this place to satisfy a japanses craving... happy eating!

The prices are pretty reasonable and the food is pretty good, though I only tried the sashimi assortment (large) and can't speak to the hot food. The sashimi assortment came with a good amount of sashimi though it didn't specify what kinds of fish it came with, some were more a miss than a hit. Overall the fish was fresh and I enjoyed it. Service was a bit slow, but mainly because there was only one waitress serving the entire restaurant (and maybe just one chef), so not really their fault. All in all, decent place for Japanese food.

Americans might be disappointed since the chefs here don't do any onion Vulcan eruptions or through food into their heads. They also don't do trains out of something. I've been in Amsterdam for 6 weeks now and I haven't had any Asian food (I've had KBBQ, Sichuan, pho, Indonesian, "asian", and boba LOL) that's made me say "wow!" This is the first place that I can say is as good as what I'm used to in Los Angeles. I had the tekka-don, which is marinated sashimi tuna over rice -- the fish was fresh and the rice was the correct temperature. There was a light, sweet soy coating the whole thing. 4/5 stars. I also ordered some yakitori -- the chicken leg meat with spring onions was nothing short of relevatory. The pork belly yakitori I ordered was pretty amazing too. The place is difficult to find -- it's tucked into a hidden corner of the mall but it's worth searching for.

There are grills at the tables and you cook your own food. I recommend you visit the other Tanuki, as this one was a disappointment. Food: 2/5 I'm pretty sensitive to salt but even the other people I ate with found the meat to be too salty. Rumor has it that restaurants with not so fresh meat salt their food heavily to preserve it for longer... We had various types of chicken and pork, and most of it was mediocre. The pork neck was very tasty but it was the only one out of 7 meats. Service: 3/5 The waitstaff was very polite and attentive. Atmosphere: 4/5 They did a really good job with the renovation, the restaurant is beautiful. It is a nice mixture of modern and traditional Japanese decor. They even have those adorable booths where you need to take your shoes off. However, you can't eat atmosphere. Value: 2/5 Each 100g of meat was about 5 euros, which adds up... in the end, we decided to finish what we ordered and then finish our meal at McDonalds.
