This place has a cool concept. You can either chill outside and order and pay as you go or you can go the route we did and ate inside for all you can eat sushi for 30 euros. We did all you can eat, so I suppose you can't expect too much. Still, I left this place pretty disappointed, though at least decently full. Sumo Sushi & Grill was located conveniently close to our hotel, and with a sushi craving hitting me hard, I talked everyone into coming here for a late lunch. While they do have a la carte options, I felt like the all you can eat was a better deal, especially if you plan on ordering more than a couple items. Their fish selection is pretty limited, but I was excited that they had a decent number of tuna items. I went a little hard on that and ordered a bunch of tuna cut rolls and nigiri. They do have a lot of rules at this place, though we found the ordering process pretty straight forward, and the waiter was pretty helpful in explaining everything. There are only a couple items on the menu that cost extra, but be careful. Overall, I thought the sushi quality was pretty disappointing. The tuna nigiri was especially bad, with the tuna rolls being a little more appetizing. If looking for a sushi restaurant in Amsterdam, you can probably do better than this, at least I hope. If you don't mind low quality fish, this place will suffice, however, if you are used to good sushi, you'll likely be disappointed. Food aside, service and ambiance were both nice. Wow - amsterdam has the "all you can eat" down. It's a funny version of all you can eat - as in - there are limitations. Limitations you will never come close to meeting... There are 5 rounds, 5 items per person. There are over 60 items to choose from - nigiri, rolls, hot food, sesame balls... everything, anything! The staff works in such a was, that, you don't really have a waiter, or server. Someone comes and takes your drink order, then you just hand over you list of desires... As items are completed, someone or multiple someones come around and hand out things you ordered! You list is returned, fill out what you want on the next round, hand it to any server, repeat. The sushi is tasty, quality is nice, options are fun! I like the all-you-can-eat sushi concept that seems quite popular in Amsterdam. My friends and I have always gathered for meals at Tokyo Cafe on the Spui, but I wanted to change it up and have something a bit more upscale, so we decided on Sumo on Vijzel. Interior is quite beautiful, very intimate and visually appealing. We were seated promptly even on a very busy Thursday night. We were able to order drinks right away and begin ordering sushi. I was a bit turned off by the extensive list of huis regels (house rules) listed on the back of the menu kaart... a bit unfriendly if you ask me. (Especially considering Tokyo Cafe offers just a multi-hour window with 2 seating times for dinner -- -no other limitations). HOUSE RULES -During Japanse dinner you get two and half hours to the menu to order. -At least 1 drink / consumption per person. Served during lunch / dinner. -Ordering an order, is simple by self-completion. -Up to five meals per person may be ordered at a time. -You can order again, when the previous order is served. -Waste is not valued, therefore we apply a fee. -Please, order what you can eat. -Remains due to waste additional charge: € 1.00 per sushi and € 2.00 per hot dish. Nothing says relaxed atmosphere like a rule book for dinner, ugh. Since they charge extra for uneaten dishes, you can imagine we were quite irritated when on two occasions we were brought dishes that we had either ordered on a previous round already, or had not ordered at all. Both times that we IMMEDIATELY alerted the server and did not touch the order (you are not assigned a specific server for your table), we were met with an attitude and reluctance to remove the dish - even though the order card that remains on your table can clearly show your order history. The attitude was not appreciated. Furthermore, we had 2 bowls of edamame beans and the server came and removed the 2nd, brand new bowl (thinking it was shells I guess?) ... another disappointment. Sushi was good quality and there is a good selection of items. However, watch out that you take note of the surcharge for sashimis, etc. - this is not the norm at Tokyo Cafe, and I find it a bit tacky. Overall, very beautiful restaurant, good sushi, and terrible service, just as other reviews have stated. We walked in 35mins before the all-you-can-eat buffet menu ended. 25 euro isn't bad at all considering their large choice of sushi/sashimi and smoke salmon salad/all kinds of rolls, handrolls, lambchops(our favorite!! super tender and very well seasoned), ribeye steak, all types of skewers, gyoza, etc. As long as you finish the each round, you can order 2nd and 3rd so forth. The all-you-can-eat would have been much more expensive and too much food. The chicken noodles were good, similar to yakisoba, and we got a large to share. This place is a scam. On the door it says 29.95 all you can eat. Then we find out it's actually 30.95. We started ordering anyways and were given a long list of rules. On the way to the Van Gogh museum we stopped at Sumo for an AYCE buffet that would leave us satiated for most of the day. I've read a few complaints on here that state that this wasn't really unlimited eating as they limit you to a few pieces and give you only 5 or 6 rounds and a time limit of about 2 hours. If dozens of pieces of sushi and a fair amount of variety throughout the menu along with a 2 hour time limit isn't enough, I feel like you have bigger problems in your life that you need to address ASAP. Contrary to popular belief most AYCE sushi places that I've been to, do tend to limit you a bit, when it comes to variety, how often you can order without the waiter/waitress getting irritated and maximum allotted time. At Sumo you use the designated tablet on your table to place your order with the sushi arriving only a few short minutes later. You have five rounds I believe, which makes everything more organized and we didn't have to keep calling over for the waitress when we wanted to place another order. Sushi was very solid, priced around 22, 23 euros with a fair amount of variety as well. A no-brainer if you're on the way to Musuemplein or simply biking around Amsterdam with a healthy appetite for sushi. read more

This place is a chain which I am pretty against but boy was this place good. You get a lot of bang for your buck doing an all you can eat lunch here. Staff are nice and helpful. The ambiance in this restaurant is floral and elegant. The only weird thing is that they won't refill hot water for your tea.
