I have to review this restaurant again . The freshness of the sushi is 5's . The owner is the most miserable person in the world . Never a hello or thank you for coming .There is no reason to not be hospitable! For a meal that is 350 for 2 people I think it should be a given to expect a thank you for coming from the owner who is behind the sushi counter . And he claims that he is Nobu trained?? Nobu would never serve kale with a chirashi platter. Where are the dam Shiso leaves!!! The prices are outrageous , ridiculous , insulting. I could go on and on. 5 dollars for a pot of watery lipton green tea. I want real Japanese roasted green tea with hints of barley like every other Japanese restaurant ( not in South Florida ) the Chirashi is 169 dollars ( for 2 people ) but it only comes with 1 Watery not homemade Miso soup. Tried this as most of the sushi places in and around my home area are just ok. Not the high level fish that really makes sushi an awesome food to enjoy. This place just blew me away. It's nothing to look at. Very simple but the food OMG it was so good with a selection that I have yet to find in Florida. The tuna was that deep burgundy color and not a hint of any aftertaste. The very first thing to do at Sushigo is your Yelp Check-in for a free treat. Mine was a good measure of hot sake. It was a rough day for me as I had to conduct some business in Boca, often tagged as being home of "The Real Housewives of South Florida Ponzi Schemers." But enough with my Boca bashing. Being in a rush I merely Yelped up Sushigo and noticing it had a solid Four Stars Plus rating with a good number of positive reviews, decided to give it a try and ultimately I'm very happy that I did. Sushigo is located on the west side of Federal across the street from Mizner with its exact location being within a rather nondescript strip mall. It's a small, somewhat hole in the wallish in appearance from the outside, but from the inside spotlessly clean, orderly, well arrange and with rather pleasant seating for its size. As soon as I was seated I was presented not only with their rather exhaustive all-encompassing main menu but also with a surprising number of specials; eight to be exact. To my delight there were a good number special offerings I had never heard of before and though a couple I had heard about, never had the opportunity to try. I settled on ordering their Mutuso Nodoguro, which I recalled as being a very small blackthroated sea bass, considered in Japan to be the ultimate in quality of fish. However, my hopes in having that were immediately dashed when my waitress advised me that it was "market priced" at $25/piece and the serving was of ten pieces; hence $250.00. Ouch!!! Though that hurt, I remain impressed by the fact that they would have it. So, scanning Yelp further I noted that Yelper Marc a/k/a Max H., a person I know to be food knowledgeable, a top reviewer and of good taste had a tip for a dish called "Spicy Girl" which I ordered along with a seaweed salad. Its generally been my experience that seaweed salads generally all follow the same recipe and consequently no matter where purchased, be it in a true Japanese restaurant or from Publix, all taste pretty much the same. Sushigo's seaweed was, however, noticeably different in having a fresher more distinctive flavor as well as overall texture. When the "Spicy Girl" arrived, I found it not only to be appealing in color but also in taste, flavor and texture. The salmon more than lived up to the restaurant motto of "Beyond Fresh," but so did the other ingredients as well. Indeed the combinations of noticeably fresh salmon, avocado, masago (what I believe to be the hidden heart of a sushi roll), cucumber, kani, scallion and subtle hints of jalapenos all blended harmoniously into what was both a novel as well as a delightful taste treat. read more

The bad: No "irashaimase" greeting when customers walked through through the door. No complimentary oshibori (wet towels for cleaning hands) or hot green tea. Sushi chef had personality of a cold fish and didn't interact with customers seated at the counter (my wife, who is Japanese, told me that if the chef were working in Japan, he would be relegated to the kitchen instead of the sushi counter). Mixed tempura batter a little tough and heavier than traditional Japanese tempura better. Last but not least, highly overpriced menu and underwhelming atmosphere (menu priced like a high-end sushi-ya's but place looks more like a mom-and-pop diner). First, the service is A+ fantastic!! I dined here for the first time on my birthday; it was dead inside the restaurant, but very welcoming. The waitress and sushi chef (I believe his name is Joe!) were pleasant and continually made sure my experience was top notch. With my Yelp check in, I received a free edamame - yay!! The miso soup was good; the tofu was tiny minced cubes, instead of larger chunks. (I prefer larger tofu chunks, but that's okay!) My dining companion had the ramen - spicy. He enjoyed it and the portion was plentiful. The sushi was gorgeous! The presentation alone was wonderful (see my photos; I swear they are hi-res, but Yelp compressed them) and the taste was brilliant and fresh. Our lovely waitress wished me a Happy Birthday and gave me a green tea mochi as a little birthday dessert. I've been to a lot of Japanese restaurants across the country, and Sushigo is in the top 10 range out of all the ones I've been to. It's definitely #1 out of all the ones I've been to in South Florida. It's 100% Japanese; not one of those weird Sushi-Thai restaurants (seriously, who came up with that combo!?) that plague South Florida. Anyways, it was delicious and fresh. The owner and head chef, Joe, is totally awesome. We had the Sashimi Deluxe (flavorful, fresh, and beautifully presented), the Elizabeth Roll (unique and one of the best rolls I've ever had), and Miami Roll (simple but very tasty). Very impressed with the quality. This looks and feels like your typical sushi restaurant and bar until you peruse the menu and try the marvelous creations whipped up by the sushi chef. I'd like to mention, IT IS overpriced. Should definitely be classified as $$$$. Everyone trying to justify the price point are absolutely delusional. They are asking for Miami/NYC prices in a strip plaza in Boca (not even in Mizner)...Yes, the fish is of excellent quality. But to slap a $40 price tag on 8 balls of rice wrapped with salmon and topped with ikura, alongside an underwhelming dining experience is absolutely ridiculous. I don't care if its sprinkled with gold flakes. It's a hole in the wall. The waitress has to awkwardly explain the pricing to every new patron, because if these patrons are just walking in without prior knowledge they are going to be appalled by the price point, and rightfully so. I ordered the Monique's Japanese Octopus Roll. It consisted of octopus, spicy tuna tartar, jalapeno salsa, shrimp tempura, avocado, tobiko, and sweet chili sauce. It was delicious. The roll was $27 and didn't fill me up at all. It was presented well, quality was great, and the flavor profiles were outstanding. I also ordered the Salmon-Lovers Roll. This was ikura (salmon roe) wrapped in sliced fresh salmon. This was $39.99. Honestly, the salmon was good, but not much different than salmon at other places. I love salmon sashimi, so I thoroughly enjoyed it, but $40?! It's salmon, not lobster and caviar, relax. Lastly, I ordered a scallop sashimi. This was my favorite. It cut like butter and melted in my mouth. It had unique flavor. It reminded me of a few omakase experiences in NYC. It was $18 for the single piece. My main problem with this place is the owner pulls these prices out of his ass and gets away with it (because he was a sushi chef at Nobu?!). The markup is unreal. I inquired with the waitress about a salmon/scallop dish I saw on Yelp (it wasn't on the menu). After speaking with chef Joe she comes back and tells me it'll cost $90 for 4 pieces of scallops wrapped in salmon! If this was a classy restaurant in Miami, NYC, or any major city I wouldn't be appalled at all. But once again, it's a small hole in the wall in a strip plaza. In fact, I inquired about the price of the omakase and he told me $350.00. What?! I asked how many pieces, and he wouldn't give me a straight answer. The average price of omakase at some of the best places in NYC are $100-150. I've had a $50 omakase in NYC that was absolutely incredible. Chef Joe is very personable and hilarious. But the dude is full of himself. The whole time I sat at the bar he was telling me how he has the freshest fish in the states. It's absurd. To his defense, this place is the closest you'll get to the amazing NYC quality omakase fish in South Florida. All that being said, the sushi is phenomenal. You can undoubtedly taste the difference in quality with that of other sushi establishments (Unfortunately, that and pricing were the only differences). Everything was exquisite. The rolls are undoubtedly more refined than almost every other place I have been to in South Florida. The quality is well above average. The fish melted in my mouth. Presentation was nice, but for the price point I was expecting a little more, maybe a flying fish or something. Although I am very impressed with this place, I wasn't blown away, considering I spent over $100 for lunch. Thanks to all the reviews on yelp - I decided to check it out for lunch today. We ordered the Cool Joe "Protein Diet" roll and oh my word .. It was phenomenal! This is a no-rice sushi roll. Extremely fresh and a perfectly balanced dish. This is a must try!! We also tried the monkfish pate. This was truly a treat. Try it! The chef is extremely personable and was very interactive. My husband and I were next door to fix our phones in a STRIP MALL close to Mizner (but it's NOT Mizner;) We had an hour to kill and it was dinner time so we decided to try this sushi place next door. We ordered a water and an iced tea and about $140 of food ( 2 specialty rolls, a few pieces of sashimi and one of their less expensive rolls for filler). I asked the waitress for some ginger. Not a big deal, right ? I mean it's basically a condiment at a sushi restaurant especially with such inflated prices they should be happy to give ginger to their customers. Right ? ... Wrong! She brought us literally 3 or 4 thin slices and I laughed out loud because I thought it was a joke! So she probably felt embarrassed and went back and added another couple of thin slices. Needless to say, we finished it quickly and I asked for some more ginger. She said the owner doesn't like to give customers ginger and she's afraid to get in trouble but she was willing to go ask him to make an exception for us. SERIOUSLY!? We're talking about ginger here - a condiment! We're about to drop almost $200 (after tax and tip) here and you're going to be STINGY with your GINGER!?! You've got to be kidding!! She came back from supposedly asking the owner to give us more ginger and he said LATER!!! WOW! My husband said we're done and asked for the bill for his $4 iced tea lol !! The uni was the best I've had, the tuna tartar was amazing and then the sashimi, oh my, it was outstanding. My waitress as well as other servers took incredible care of me and my boyfriend and were extremely helpful about choosing the best items and special requests. We had: Salad with ginger dressing (dressing was awesome)! Favorite sushi in Boca! Always start with the shishito peppers, full of flavor and sometimes a little spicy. Their special sushi rolls can be a little pricey but their simple rolls are SO good and always fresh - so you can mix it up! The food is exceptionally good. It is true artisanal Japanese sushi. It's expensive and many of the customers don't care. They definitely have an elite following. Oddly, the place isn't the manicured and beautiful restaurant that one might think. The young chef's chef coat was stained and unclean and the place could use paint job and overall facelift. If you want a fun place to go, this is not it. I enjoyed it, but for many folks it can be prohibitively expensive. My husband told me about this place that he stumbled upon. He said the chef was funny and friendly and the sushi was phenomenal. When I was in town, he brought me here for our one night out without kids. It was a great choice. I don't even know what all the sushi we had was, but it was all very good. The only reason why I gave this place 2 stars rather than 4 is because their service is close to horrible. The place is small but from experience I realized the best sushi places I've gone to are all small. We were greeted as soon as we walked in. The sushi chefs are nice and the waitresses were meh. Took them about 10-15 to come ask us for our drinks. There is about 4-5 waitresses and they stand next to the sushi bar and watch over the place, even then it was hard to get their attention when you needed them. Overall atmosphere is clean but a bit crowded the way they have their table. Onto food, it took foreverrrrr to get our food. Not only that, I always pay attention to who comes in after me and i noticed the couple after me got their appetizers before me, while I got mine AFTER my meal. Mind you, it was an order of edamame. I wasn't so thrilled. The sushi is good but for the price, it isn't worth it . Order 4 rolls but got only 3 to begin with and the fourth one came 15 mins after we finished the first 3 rolls. I really wasn't satisfied then. What sucked was that I had to address the waitress about the order and she had to go check and then came back and tried to play it off as if it wasn't ready. All in all, if you have time to sit around and want to overly pay for sushi, give it a go. But I don't think I'll be coming back. ***p.s. Food is decent at best, I'd give it 3-4 stars if they didn't inflate the prices by about 5 times what it's worth (If I could give 0 stars I would, just to bring down the average rating as a warning to future consumers). In conclusion, I strongly advise anyone considering this place to go literally any other shopping plaza sushi joint. If you're looking to actually get good sushi for the same price if not less... drive to Miami and go to nobu, zuma, hiden, naoie instead of this doodoo knockoff.
