This is usually my favorite Japanese food in Livermore. This time was way different. Pretty much all the food we got was either burnt or really dry. Teriyaki chicken was burnt with the teriyaki sauce hardened on the chicken. The Saba that we got was dry and partially crispy. The agedashi tofu was burnt. How do you burn agedashi tofu? Tempura prices were either to crispy to bite or burnt. I can not say I will be back anytime soon. The best part about the meal was the unsalted cold edamame. read more

Been here a few times and so far I have always left happy. Usually I come here for dinner but today it was for lunch. Ordered the Oyako Donburi and it was a HUGE portion. Enough for a small family LOL. For dinner, the only roll I'm looking at is my fave - the Hamachi Lover. There's plenty of parking and I haven't had any issues with their service. They do play the same music everytime I'm there so maybe a channel change would be nice. read more

This has been our go to place ever since we moved to Livermore. We LOVE sushi and we order their sushi boat to-go all the time. This review is for our past two orders from them. The quality has significantly gone down hill. The time before last time, we found bones and fish scale (I think) in our food. Gross. Then, this last time a few days ago we were given our food with no utensils. The soy sauce was given in a giant container, barely any ginger for a giant to-go platter, and the food was not fresh. The tuna we had was probably frozen. It was really hard and still had indentations from the wrapping it was wrapped in. The lion king roll was watery and strangely cold for a "torched" roll. The radish/beet garnishes were so watery that it made the bottom of the nigiris around it all pink (stained from the beets) and soggy on the bottom. Though we've had some awesome food from them, we're not too sure if this will still be our go to place anymore... read more

I've always like the food at Sushi Zone, but I've had multiple problems with the Sushi Zone - Door Dash connection. On the restaurant's side I've had to put up with half orders or items forgotten. Today this happened. I called the restaurant. They said it was the Dashers fault. Called the Dasher. They threw the restaurant under the bus. Either way I think I'm through with both of them. Dasher said they'll pick up missing item. Restaurant calls and said dasher refuses to go back to restaurant. Not interested in finger pointing and lies. Door Dash is an idea who's time has come and passed. Too many hands handling the food and no one takes responsibility. Done with them both. read more

My favorite sushi restaurant! I live 20 mins away, but will make the drive to get it. Rolls are made fresh each time and the flavor is always consistent. My go-to is the OMG roll and lion king, highly recommend. Staff is friendly and accommodating. Amazing prices with great taste- 10/10. read more

Sushi Zone absolutely hit my Sushi spot last night. The Sushi Dinner is a good portion, the cuts are excellent, and the spicy tuna roll I chose was a decent size - and tasted great, too. The only snafoo was that we ordered an orange roll and the rice was over cooked. It made the whole roll way too mushy. Probably just a mistake on that one roll (I hope) since my spicy tuna roll was fine. The restaurant itself is on the smaller side so don't expect to come with a big group. One of the tables is right next to the front door and the group before us was kind enough to let us have a table in the back since we had a toddler and infant that we didn't want getting cold everytime someone walked in. I will come here again! I love the concept of the sushi dinner - a six-piece roll and six-piece sashimi with side of soup and salad for $17. I'd pay almost that much for one till as it is. read more

Best beef udon in town!!! First off, I'm usually not a fan of broth because why would you take something flavorful and put it in water? This broth actually tasted great! Then the beef, at other Japanese restaurants there's normally a few pieces of beef off to the side, but here there were big chunks of beef throughout that I almost couldn't finish eating them all. I've gone to Sushi Zone numerous times, and I'm shocked that haven't I written a review... Because I'm keeping this place all for myself brahahaha! Now searching for sushi in this part of Livermore can be kinda tricky. You've got average ones and bad ones, and I'm talking within a five mile radius of this place. Of about, say six decent ones in Livermore, Sushi Zone to me stands out as being the best. Followed by Wasabi Bistro. Kobe Japan a far third. Then there's the unorganized, lack-of-service, and "not really worth it" locations like Kawa and Roppongi. And Manpuku is more just gimbop versus sushi. Dining and service from Sushi Zone: Always a pleasure! They seem to know us by now, and still attend to us as if it's our first time. Love the staff, as they're always on point! It's not a very large restaurant, but their dining is nine times out of ten, clean! Rolls and more from the Zone. Here's what I've tried: + Appetizers + ~ Sashimi (4pcs, $7.95): I don't ever recall saying, "This isn't fresh." Almost all the time, the tuna or hamachi is tasteless and clean the way sashimi should be. Fresh indeed! ~ Chicken Karaage ($7.95): Decent, but not the best. I haven't ordered this in awhile. ~ Tako Sunomono ($6.95): It's basically and octopus and cucumber salad, soaking in a sweet vinegar sauce. Very refreshing, and an excellent starter. ~ Kaki Fry ($8.95): Soft, plump, juicy. How can you not like breaded fried oysters :) ~ Gyoza ($6.95): Eh, nothing special. ~ Scallop Fry ($9.95): Pretty good for breaded scallops. Though scallops are good even without breading in general. ~ Oshitashi ($6.95): A favorite that I usually get. They give a lot of spinach for the price. ~ Hamachi Kama ($11.95): My number one favorite of them all! They grill it just right! This is another regular item I tend to ask for. ~ Salmon Kama ($8.95): Not as good as hamachi, but I still like it! ~ Salmon Skin Salad ($11.95): Another refreshing option! This salad can almost fill you up. ~ Takoyaki: Don't recall the price. Not my favorite anyways. Takoyaki from Osaka set the standard, sorry. Well, that was just the appetizers. Did I have to discuss all the rolls I've tried? Oh boy, well I'll give it a shot. Here it go... ~ Volcano Roll ($11.95): A different style volcano roll that I really admire! I mean, how can you not like a salmon wrapper (no rice, mind you), and the insides of mini scallops and crab. You can't go wrong ordering this roll. ~ Sashimi Deluxe Dinner (15pcs, $21.95): I always enjoy their cuts! The master behind the counter usually slices at close to an inch per piece. I'd say about 3/4th usually. ~ Vegetable Tempura ($11.95): Nice and crispy every time! Can't go wrong with ordering their tempura either. ~ Cherry Blossom ($11.95): A standard roll that can't be messed up. I use to order this when I first came here, but now I tend to order their special rolls. But they make a pretty tasty cherry blossom. ~ Others I've enjoyed: Cukani with a cucumber wrapper. Their Dynamite Roll seems like a winner among spicy crunchy lovers. Dragon Roll, Explosion, Rose Garden, Nemo Roll, New Years Eve Roll, man I can go on forever. You'll have to just check out my 50+ pics instead. Price for it all: They're usually above average I'd say. But the quality and effort put into it, makes the above average prices well worth it! And I usually wash it down with some warm house sake. So table for two, depending on what we get and if three bottles of sake or not, I've usually paid between $46 to $96 I'd say. Came in about 5:30pm before the dinner rush. When you walk in you get welcomed in & get water & edamame right away! We ordered the rainbow roll, the jalapeño fried roll (it was spicy for me, not at all for my date) and of course fried spicy tuna roll. We had a quick dinner since we had an infant with us and didn't want to disrupt anyone's dinner before he woke up. We are glad we were able to have a quick dinner without feeling rushed either. read more

Being one of many Japanese restaurants in town I would say this place is the best sushi restaurant in Livermore. If I don't want to be disappointed with my customer service or food. My favorite sushi place by far!! I have never had even a subpar experience here, every time the food is top notch and high quality. I always come here with my boyfriend and we are both regulars at this point. Every roll has something special and they're always so flavorful. You will not be disappointed with anything you order. Something I love is that they have a huge selection of rolls, a lot original to them, so you will almost never run out of options. My go-tos are the OMG and Mountain rolls though. I will never ever stop coming here and supporting this business. The staff is always very nice, welcoming, and friendly. There is no decrease in quality when getting takeout, and most sushi places I've gotten takeout from aren't anywhere near as good as eating it at the restaurant, but Sushi Zone is a huge exception. Was forced to seek alternative options from my current go-to sushi joint, considering lines over there could now warrant velvet rope partitions & bouncers checking ID (à la Studio 54). Vicinity search turned up Sushi Zone which not only received a stamp of approval from fellow Yelpers, but actually had seating available on a Saturday evening? What the?! Pulled up to a strip-mall... Wait..., let me rephrase... Not JUST a Strip Mall... Pulled up to the "Chardonnay Shopping Center" (ooh, sounds fancy-schmancy don't it?) & right up to a lot in front of SZ. Stepped through the doors & was immediately greeted by friendly staff & subsequently seated... First thing I noticed? How EXTENSIVE/colorful the sushi menu was... Not just the rolls, but a decent selection of bento options as well (that + a children's menu!). I could've spent hours sifting through the rolls, but settled on a Sashimi Deluxe Dinner & 4 additional rolls to split w/ my bro-in-law (Albacore Lover, Rainbow Roll, SF Roll & a Salmon Skin Roll). There was a team of (2) sushi chef's behind the bar (with a big-screen LCD, Warriors vs Knicks!) who were occasionally forced to take shots of sake offered by patrons at the bar... Very clean establishment, well-lit & the big-screens were a great touch... Servers as well were very friendly/attentive & were quick to refill drinks & assure everything was to our liking. Everyone was very pleased w/ their meals (wife opted for the shrimp tempura dinner portion which was MASSIVE) & the Mother in-law opted for a chicken teriyaki bento as well which was HUGE... Kids polished off their meals as did I & my bro... Fish was very fresh (5 Stars for the Sashimi!), as were the rolls. If you like garlic btw? I'd suggest giving the Albacore Lover a shot... (tho keep your tic-tac's handy)... All-in-All a very pleasant experience & no doubt I'll be returning... I spotted a sign that read "Grand Opening", so I told Dave let's check it out. With a name like Sushi Zone, he was reluctant to try it out, but I pushed on and finally got my way! The place was empty with one other table of seated customers. They had a couple of people at the sushi bar and that was about it. We were promptly seated and got ordered our iced teas. After taking a quick look at the menu we decided on a two item bento box and a spicy hamachi handroll. I ordered vegetable tempura and spicy tuna roll; the bento lunch came with rice, salad and miso soup. He got the salmon teriyaki and the vegetable tempura. As we placed our order the waitress brought out edamame for us as well as additional free salads. They have a choice of 2 dressings a sesame miso dressing which we both chose and a ginger sesame dressing. The white miso soup was steaming hot and full of flavor, with small pieces of tofu, green onion and kelp. The salad was equally good, with the lettuce still crunchy and the sesame miso dressing was a perfect complement to it. I was expecting a traditional bento box to come out and was pleasantly surprised by the nice white plates that came instead. Everything laid out proportionately on the plate which was divided into 4 squares. The vegetable tempura was a tad oily but overall good. Dave enjoyed his salmon teriyaki and I liked my spicy tuna roll...of course I wished it was a lot spicier! But that's just me... The hamachi hand roll was pretty good, the flavors were there, the freshness of the ingredients and fish was there and the small spice kick was also there. Overall the service was quick, attentive and with a smile. Sushi Zone opened its doors on Friday last week (10/01/10), so they are very new! I would come back here in a few weeks or so to see if they are still consistent or better :-) read more

How haven't I written a review for this awesome sushi place yet? Great neighborhood sushi restaurant. I've met some really great Livermore locals here and the service is always top notch. The ladies run them tables like no one's business. The sushi quality and portions are surprisingly consistently good for Livermore suburbia and I am ALWAYS pleased with what I've ordered to date. My faves are the Cherry Blossom, The Sexy and if I'm feeling fatso- I go with the riceless Cukani (Cucumber, w/ Unagi, real crab, avocado & fish egg inside)-It's filling and yummy & worth the $12 or so:) Parking is tough during lunch rush since it's in a strip mall lot and shares with various other businesses and a liquor store. The restroom is shared with Roundtable which is interesting but always clean. Side note: I would frequent Sushi Zone weekly but gave up alcohol for lent & I don't know about you... But, I've got to have a sake/asahi/sapporo before, during and after my sushi. ;) Now that Easter has passed-Feel free to say "Hi" to me at the bar ;) I'm typically there during the latter dinner hours :) read more

Sushi Zone is in a strip mall on Easr Ave. I never would have tried this place, but thanks to Yelp I gave it a try. It's a small place with lots of rolls and fresh fish. Service is friendly and prompt. I had the chirashi, my standard test of a Japanese restaurant. The fish was fresh with good variety. The sushi rice was good and nicely flavored. I only wish the portion size was a bit bigger, but not a bad value at its price. The restaurant seemed to have a fair number of regulars...always a good sign. Wow, we have been going to this place off and on for the last 6 years, it's across the street from were we live! We loved the traditional Sushi, that we guess the Dad of the family owned business, used to make. It was 4-5 star then and now we guys the son has taken over and OMG we didn't think it could have gotten better but it did with a beautiful mixture of traditional and non-traditional Sushi and assorted other rolls! We were just there last night and they had a special called " The Jalapeno Bomb" which is clearly not a traditional Sushi Roll but it was fantastic, if you like it spicy this is the Sushi Roll for you. We will add a picture and hopefully it will show up. The new menu items are fantastic with a great Chef that thinks outside the ROLL!!!!!!
