Simply delicious! My family and I normally go to Wasabi Bistro in Springtown but we'd just finished at the Livermore Library & I was craving sushi. Sushi Zone did not disappoint. The women were all very nice and the portions were perfect. The menu selections was great, plenty to choose from, the fish was fresh, the rolls were great sizes and my kiddo absolutely loved the salmon teriyaki. The joint itself reminded me of the old school sushi restaurants I went to as a kid - small, bar option and everyone knows everyone. Don't usually leave reviews much but I was honestly surprised by this place. In the current landscape of trendy savvy restaurants where I'm recommended via influences of algorithmic suggestions, I ended up here tonight by pure chance. My date was close by and we just decided to grab a bite at a nearby area. Googled, saw the stars, didn't read the reviews, 2 min to choose this place. Imagine that 2024. I'm going to be even more transparent. My Korean parents ran a sushi restaurant not too distant from this place(they've been retired for awhile now). I know that "non-Japanese" and "non-omakase" can be a red flag in today's playing field. This place is Korean, but I only say that to make a point. There are tiers to this game. It's like comparing In-N-Out, a completely acceptable, solid choice for affordable yet freshly prepared delicious burgers, to a" gourmet A5 Wagyu burger" prepared by a Gordan Ramsey inspired joint. Both are delicious, not hating, but conflate them to your own detriment because price tiers matter if you're like me. I'm not trying to kill my savings because I want some sushi--I'm trying to save to buy a house before I'm dead like any other responsible Bay Area Millennial. The food here was solid. For the price, I would even say that it was great. We ordered only but few dishes and they didn't disappoint in the slightest. Fishes were fresh and, perhaps equally important, the rice was well prepared and delicious. I've been running in to mid-priced sushi restaurant as of late where the "sushi rice" has no vinegar, just plain rice. Shame on them, they don't get it. This place does. I have to mention the service. It was excellent with plenty of attentive wait staff. Granted, we were here early dinner before the crowd, but having plenty of wait staff doesn't necessarily guarantee good service. Trust me, I've worked in this field for over a decade. I'm often too lazy to write reviews, let alone text my friends or family. Hell, I often travel as far as South Bay in the weekends or even all the way to Socal because I'm swayed by my "foodie" friends. I've been to great spots, unaffordable places, Instagrammer's bullet points. But I've never been compelled to write reviews, just look at my profile. But I write this review because I think this is honestly the best spot in LIvermore if you just want to eat Japanese food without breaking a bank. 2nd time being here with my husband for dinner and we love it! We must say this is our go to sushi spot in the Tri-Valley area! Yay! We ordered: * 6 pcs of sake nigiri ($6.50 each) * Lion King Roll * 3 item bento box: Wakame, Salmon sashimi, and Fish Katsu The sake nigiri tasted fresh! They come with big pieces of raw salmon on top. I felt like you definitely got your moneys' worth! They are pretty heavy on wasabi. I found out they put it in between the salmon and sushi rice. It's still tasty! The lion king roll is pretty small. One person can definitely finish it in 10 mins if you'd like but since my husband and I shared it was a great starter for us. Went here for a dinner on Tuesday night when I was in town. We got there right when they opened at 5, but by the time we left, they were pretty busy! Service here is very quick and attentive. The fish here is also very fresh! It's hard for me to find sushi spots with escolar (super white tuna) and sushi zone had it! It literally melted in my mouth and they have the nigiri for a great price. As for rolls, we got the lambada, vegas, cukani, crazy horse, and lion king. Everything came out fairly quick and great tasting. Their spicy tuna does have a good spice to it! I wish my lambada roll had less sauce cause it was drownnninggg in it. My sister recently moved to Livermore and while craving sushi one night, we came here on a recommendation. SO GOOD AND INEXPENSIVE! We came with a group of 5 and were seated very promptly on a Friday night. We ordered so much, I can't even remember all the rolls, but everything was fresh and fantastic and came out very quickly. Truth be told, Sushi Zone was too close to my ex's apartment but he moved so here I finally am! The start of dinner was a little rocky as I wasn't greeted and had to get my own menu but things improved from there! My mom and I shared the Popcorn Scallop & Spring Maki and they were so good. Overall, I liked Sushi Zone's rolls. We had it for lunch and then tried a different place in Pleasanton for dinner and that other place was not as good. There was too much wasabi mayo on blue dragon (special) $14.95. The server forgot to bring the "monkey brains" dish, but we were too full anyways. The Coke comes in a can. The Uni was satisfactory. IRASSHAIMASE!!! This our go-to sushi restaurant in Livermore. Sean, his sister, their father, and the rest of the crew are very friendly and accommodating. We have been going to Sushi Zone since we settled in Livermore in 2011. The employees always recognize us and say a special hello to the kids. When they were babies, the staff held them and toured them through the restaurant just to give my wife and I a few minutes of kid-free time. And since they started eating solid foods, we discovered that they liked cooked salmon. But, as babies, they would never eat a large bento box portion and we didn't want to take home fish for leftovers. Luckily, the Sushi Zone crew would allow us to order appetizer sashimi salmon and have it baked in their little toaster oven. This allowed us to give very small portions of cooked salmon that wouldn't go to waste, nor cost an arm and a leg. I don't know that other sushi restaurants would allow this, or have the oven to do so. For this reason, as well as the proximity to our home, and our kids' preschool across the street, this became our place. But while the convenience of the location, the friendly staff, and the accommodations for our kiddos are certainly helpful, the quality of the food is excellent and so are the portions. We've tried just about everything on the menu and love them all. We bring friends there and now they love it too. I usually get the salmon or hamachi sashimi deluxe dinner. My oldest boy now does too, and will share with the youngest (they've graduated to raw fish). My wife loves the Explosion Roll, 49er Roll, and Paragon. We both love the New Style Sashimi, but pretty sure you'll like whatever you order. And we often order of a bottle of Nigiri (and may even share a little with the staff when the conditions permit). read more

Wow. Never would i of thought that i would be harassed and "reported to the police" over miscommunication. Earlier tonight i placed an order for tempura. A sushi roll, and teriyaki chicken. When they told me the wait was 30-45 minutes i told the waitress never mind because the wait was too long. She said thank you and hung up. About an hour or so later i look at my phone to see a voicemail from them saying that they reported me to the Livermore police department. First off i canceled the order. With all the attention shifting to that little dainty spot somewhere at Larkspur Drive, Sushi Zone still remains a rock solid spot to satisfy our sushi cravings. However, there can only be one sheriff in town so I have to give credit where it is due. That explains the realignment of stars for this establishment. Just when I thought I have tasted about 80% of their rolls, they have come up with a revamped menu with plenty more to try. New menu, new creations, new items to order, new rolls to take pictures of, and, you guessed it right, new prices (55¢ to $1 hike). Food has always been good and nicely plated plus the quality service from the triumvirate of Vina, Donna, and Wiwit has never been lacking. They have 100+ sushi rolls listed on their menu plus a few more specials on the board. If you're in a bit of a rush, just give the ones listed below a try. Otherwise, enjoy the complimentart edamame as you peruse their menu. Explosion Roll (shrimp tempura and spicy tuna topped with torched albacore) - You will definitely know that somebody ordered this because there is no mistaking the wonderful smell that will fill this restaurant once they fire up the blow torch. It is served on a bigger plate with their special sauces nicely placed on the side. Enjoy the aroma then enjoy the flavor. Vegas Roll (spicy tuna and cucumber topped with albacore) - One word: ponzu sauce. Or was that two? Giant Roll (soft-shell crab, spicy tuna, crab mix, and cucumber topped with unagi and avocado) - While every sushi joints has the standard Spider Roll on their menu, Sushi Zone has a lot more rolls that feature soft-shell crab in it. Among those, this one is our favorite. Hot Night Roll (shrimp tempura and spicy crab topped with spicy tuna and jalapeño) - So far, the best roll that we've tried from the new menu. The thinly-sliced jalapeños on top are fantastic! Titanic Roll (shrimp tempura and cucumber topped with crab mix, tuna, salmon, and hamachi) - There seems to be nothing special if you look at the ingredients but what is unique here is that they brought the crab mix out and layered it between the rice and the fish instead of stuffing everything inside the roll. Sexy Roll (deep-fried hamachi and avocado topped with unagi and ikura) - If you like the sensation brought by exploding tobiko inside your mouth, then the ikura (salmon roe) will give you an even bigger joy. Size matters, eh? Go-Go Roll (shrimp tempura and spicy tuna topped with spicy imitation crab) - Simply put, this one tasted as good as it looked. Raiders Roll (soft-shell crab and cucumber topped with tuna, salmon, hamachi, unagi, and avocado) - Another one of their soft-shell crab concoctions. This is like taking the Rainbow Roll a few notches up. Fire Ball (deep-fried breaded spicy tuna, spicy crab, and jalapeño) - This will remind you of the old school Batman starring Adam West. Sliced into four parts, it sits atop their spicy mayo and hot sauces which resemble the border of the TV series' signature "Kapow!" graphic. Isn't that right, Allen C.?! If you're not into sushi nor sashimi, their lunch / dinner entrées and bento boxes are very decent and there are a lot of teriyaki and katsu dishes to choose from. Udon and soba are also on the menu and, of course, there are ebi and veggie tempura as well. Overall, I'm still a fan. I have mixed reviews about this place but it's only based on my only experience here. I stopped by here with hubby and a friend. Our friend ordered two rolls for herself and hubby and I ordered bentos for ourselves. The ordering experience was just fine. The person who helped us was very friendly. We came at quite a busy time so she was doing her best to try to help everyone in a timely manner. We took our food to a nearby park(ing lot) to eat, haha. Our friend LOVED the rolls she ordered. For our bentos, I will say I didn't care for the tonkatsu. It was very dry and super thin. I did enjoy everything else, however. The dressing for the salad was refreshing and the salmon sashimi was scrumptious. Hubby enjoyed his fish katsu but gave me his spicy tuna. It was too spicy for him, lol. Overall, this was a nice lunch experience for us. The only problems I had were that I didn't like my tonkatsu and I didn't get full at all. I guess I will have to try the rolls next time! read more

I started getting food from here during the shutdown when you could only do food to go, and let me tell ya... they've just always been so awesome! When I get take out, there's never been any problem. I have eaten here many time with my husband and friend Steve. It is now my favorite place for sushi in Livermore. I love that all the staff are so friendly and smiling. I never have to ask for a tea refill, which is awesome. The sushi is FRESH every time. The real crab is actually real crab...whoo hoo! They don't skimp on the portions or ingredients in the sushi.
