Being a huge sushi fan, I'm always on the lookout for solid sushi options in the area. Sushi Yushi was very highly rated so I had to give it a try. After reading how busy they are, we made reservations but found them to not be too busy upon our arrival though it filled up quickly as we sat there. We were greeted and quickly sat down at our table. The decor in Sushi Yushi was decorated for Valentine's Day & was adorable. Our server was perfect- from beginning to end, he was friendly, helpful and efficient, offering his help if we needed any guidance with the menu. We chose the spicy edamame, chicken gyoza, shrimp tempura, green mountain roll and the spicy tuna roll. The spicy edamame was a great alternative to our usual edamame, with great flavor and just the right amount of spice. The chicken gyoza was also delicious. I was very pleasantly surprised with the strong garlic and lemon flavors from the green mountain roll- never have I had such a flavorful sushi roll! I appreciated the smaller bites here but I felt all the rolls had a bit more rice than my favorite sushi place. A lovely surprise I appreciated & didn't expect was the small salad that was served between our appetizer and sushi - so tasty and perfectly balanced out our meal! Overall, it was a great experience and fun to try a new sushi place in the area. I wish there were more options without cream cheese, mayo or nori but if those are what you like in your sushi, then there are tons of options for you! read more

I was offered a bottle of sauce in exchange for a 5 star review at this establishment, no one should trust 5 star reviews at this restaurant. Our server got a sake order wrong and it took 3 awkward confrontational conversations to resolve where my friend was accused of lying. I was given the check half way through my meal while I was eating. I was pressured into putting a food order in with my initial cocktail order. Our only appetizer was served after our rolls. I was not asked to order a second drink. I was offered an insulting comp for the servers mistakes. The food is ok but not good. And it's served by someone who has zero idea how to serve food. House made salad, fresh miso soup, crispy tempura, and everything else was yummy. Sat at the bar and was recommended a wine based on what I like. There's a reason this place has so many high ratings! Literally obsessed and will be coming back again. It's Family-owned, incredibly warm, and the service is truly top tier. I'm talking attentive, kind, and fun without ever feeling overbearing! The fish was fresh and so well prepared. I had the scallop nigiri and smoked salmon nigiri (3 pieces per order which I loved), and everything was perfect. This place is just adorable! I love how beautifully decorated it was for the holidays, and all the waitresses were dressed up with fun holiday hats on. Our servers were so cheery and genuine, and so so nice. For our dinner, we ordered the fried pork gyoza as an app, which were super good. As my main, I had the orange county roll which was a little dense, but still very delicious. My friend had the chicken teriyaki, which I stole several bites from. Such a special place for all special occasions! We instantly felt welcomed and at home here. Upon entering the restaurant we were greeted and gave our names for our reservation. We went early evening on a Friday, and reservations were recommended. It wasn't overly busy and felt very relaxing inside. The inside is beautiful and the entire staff was kind and welcoming. Sae is seriously THE best at her job! We had so much fun with her the entire visit and would've loved to just have her join us. She gave incredible recommendations and made us feel like part of the family. She shows so much pride is working there and truly represented the restaurant with ownership and know-how. As for the sushi, hands down in the top of any I've ever had, and trust me this body was made by sushi . And even better, the incredible price point. I was shocked at how fresh, flavorful, and quality the food was for comparable prices to other sushi places that are barely passable. We ordered the salmon cheek as an appetizer; this was beautifully cooked to perfection and a rare site for a menu. A true mark of a professional kitchen of this cuisine using the whole fish in this way. They truly honored the salmon and all it's worth. @sushiyukibay took over my heart last night. No exaggeration. Service: Our server Sae was one of the sweetest, most bubbly servers I have EVER had. She was so knowledgeable, very attentive, always smiling. Hands down one of my favorite servers I have ever had. I was sad that it was so empty on a Saturday night, although the packers were playing the bears later that evening so maybe that is why?! Drinks: I got the Yuki Sour, which was delicious. Super sour, which is my favorite. My husband got a dirty martini, which he enjoyed! He also tried the old fashioned, it was a little too sweet for him. Food: We started with the shrimp tempura, which was lightly fried and absolutely delicious. The chicken gyoza were so fresh tasting, perfectly fried and that dipping sauce was perfection. We tried one of their special rolls, I believe it was called The Imperial Roll or something... anyways, it was to die for. One of our favorites of the night, especially with the raw salmon on top. That salmon was like butter in my mouth. The other rolls we ordered--The Blooming Flower (super fresh, light lemon), Green Sky (the most crazy, insane flavor profile with lemon, garlic, cilantro... OUR FAVORITE), Crazy Winter Roll (also delicious, but heavier because it was lightly fried), and then the basic crunchy California roll, which exceeded my expectations. We also got some nigiri, literally tasted like they caught the fish in the back. That salad dressing that came on the salad was unreal, like I could drink gallons. This is hands down the BEST sushi Milwaukee. This place deserves to be packed to the brim with guests 24/7 with how amazing everything is here every single time I visit, however it usually has very open availability! I have yet to be disappointed, and this is with East coast omakase in mind. My partner and I ordered the Blooming Flower Roll, Large Yuki Nigiri, Oklahoma roll, and miso soup for food. For drink we ordered the Melon Sour and medium Nigori. Everything was phenomenal, and so much so, that we ordered an additional salmon belly nigiri to finish the night off. The service was amazing. Our server paced the food extremely well and checked in with perfect timing. The drinks came out extremely quick and the nigori especially paired well with the nigiri. I have been to Sushi Yuki several times in the past and I swear it gets better with every visit. This will absolutely continue to be my go to spot for sushi in Milwaukee. read more

Very disappointing experience, we were really looking forward to trying this place given the reviews - really do not understand the hype. Had a reservation for my husband's bday - the restaurant was clearly over booked and they sat us in the corner at a cramped table for 2 people (we were 4). The hostess looked completely lost. Waited almost 45 minutes for our sushi - it was "fine", nothing special... we tried almost all the dishes recommended by the reviews. My daughter's dish had a hair on it, sent it back... they still made us pay for it AND the salad she ordered as a replacement. The gyoza was deep fried, lacked any real flavor. I want to preface this review by saying that I have a go-to sushi place that I go to on a near weekly basis that I think is as good as it gets in terms of ambiance, quality, service and price. So, when I go to any other sushi restaurant, I compare it to this standard. Sushi Yuki was good but I think they are still getting their feet underneath them as a new restaurant. I'm looking forward to going back in a few months or so as I think it'll be better than what I had on this visit. The pros: I loved the space and ambiance. Really well done for a new restaurant. I was driving this night and so I didn't have a drink but the drink menu looks fantastic and I can't wait to try it. Service was good and attentive. As far as the food goes, I was a bit underwhelmed. Me, my fiancee and my daughter (age 9) ordered four rolls while my son and mother-in-law ordered shrimp teriyaki and chicken teriyaki respectively. The sushi order was in the picture attached to my review. My first thought when it came to the table is that we were missing one of the four rolls but we were assured there were three on the plate. In terms of quality, I think the biggest issue was that the flavors were very similar across all rolls despite the descriptions being very different. Four rolls was not enough for two adults and a child and so we ordered a fifth roll (crazy winter) and it, too, was underwhelming. I tried both teriyakis and the flavor was pretty one note and the veggies seemed like maybe they weren't fresh. Both of the people that ordered the teriyakis liked them though. Also, my daughter liked the sushi and so I think this is a good place to come with kids and the definitely felt welcome. read more

The bartender and chef behind the bar were friendly and attentive to what we were looking for and craving. They had really good sashimi and nigiri that was the star of the show. Each visit, you are greeted warmly by the staff. I've only experienced amazing customer service when going to Sushi Yuki. All their employees are thoughtful, fun, and genuine. Im a salmon addict. Highly recommend their salmon belly (sake toro). It is so buttery, rich, and served at the perfect temperature. My favorite is sashimi style then nigiri. Though I always get their salmon set (upgrading from regular salmon to salmon belly.) They offer a grilled salmon cheek that sends me to nirvana. You also receive a light and refreshing complimentary salad with house made dressing which is a fantastic precursor to my rich meal. There a some nice sushi spots in Milwaukee but respectfully, none of them hold a candle to Sushi Yuki. A lovely spot in Bay View for some vegan and vegetarian sushi...and the other kind too. They have a beautiful back patio (that is currently not open due to being fogged for gnats) and the interior is very pretty too. We had the most friendly and knowledgeable waitress who was very patient with us as we asked a million questions. She made the best recommendations and we all thoroughly enjoyed our dinner and drinks. The salad with the sesame dressing was super small, but very delicious. I wish I'd had a larger portion, it was that good. I had the Asparagus rolls and Avocado rolls. I don't usually order gin cocktails, but this one came with a side shot of lemon juice and when you added it to the glass, the drink changed color somewhat. I never order dessert in restaurants, but my friend insisted I try some of hers, and the waitress assured us it was vegan, so I gave it a try. Really, really good! I'd say the sushi (particularly the freshness of the fish) is the restaurants strong suit. The chicken teriyaki was cold and dry. That part was disappointing. The cocktail that we tried which was supposed to be made with gin did not taste like liquor at all, so probably decently diluted. There was a complementary salad before our meal which was nice. I really wanted to like this place! My boyfriend and I came in for a 6pm reservation on a Friday night. They weren't packed, but there was a decent amount of tables filled. Our beers arrived after 30 minutes and it took over an hour 15 minutes to get our food. The server was apologetic and did explain that our sushi would be "a few minutes longer"--I didn't realize she meant 60 minutes longer! We ordered the Green Sky roll, Orange County roll, and Princess roll. By the time we got our rolls they were unfortunately soggy and the rice was beyond chewy. It was really saddening. The Green Sky in particular arrived cold, overwhelmingly soaked in Ponzu, and again, the rice texture was hard to get through. I could only eat 1 piece. Our server was great and the ambiance was nice but it just took forever to get anything and we were disappointed once we did. Not sure if it was just an off night? The couple next to us who had been waiting even longer received complementary miso soup for the wait, so it was nice to see they were aware of the unfortunate circumstances.
