All you can eat for $25?! And the food is really good. Some of the rolls may be on the smaller side compared to other places in the area...but that's what it's intended to be; keep that in mind. You'll have the option to taste more and order something else or order again. Most places around the US and most importantly Japan operate this way. They also don't have a $2 + charge per piece of sushi not eaten, which is extremely common all over. There's no need to be wasteful, so that's why those places have that in place, but here from what I've seen...nothing gets sent to the trash. Definitely coming back for my next sushi fix! I've heard mixed reviews, so I just had to try Sushi X for myself. Overall my experience was good. I do agree with other reviews that the service was a bit lacking, but I didn't mind too much because I was having a leisurely lunch, catching up with a friend. The restaurant was not busy, but it did take some time for our first order of rolls to get to the table. There were only about three other tables with patrons at them around 2pm on a weekday, so it was a quiet and relaxed atmosphere. I think that the sushi rolls are the way to go at Sushi X. We started with 4 rolls to share, and the portion sizes were good, and rather filling. It is important to note that it is all you can eat but you have to eat all you take. I heard that they will ask you to pay the a la carte price for items that you don't finish, so it is best to start off conservatively. You can always order more, which we did. Out of the more simple rolls the Alaskan roll was quite good. The cucumber and avocado were very fresh and the flavoring of the fish was light. We ordered several specialty rolls. My favorite was the Crazy Girl which had spicy tuna, salmon, avocado, and a cream sauce on top in addition to black pepper sprinkled on it. Really tasty! I also ordered a few pieces of sushi and sashimi at the end of the meal. Those were fairly small, which was good, because I was already quite full, I just wanted to be gluttinous and to try more items. We ordered hot tea which was included in the price. It wasn't too clear if beverages were included in the price, but I'm assuming no, other than the tea. We skipped dessert, which they said was fried ice cream. In summary my recommendation is skip all the other stuff, just go straight for the rolls! Order a small selection to start and then try a few more things once you see how full you are. Deciding what to order off the checklists was also quite fun. I'd definitely go back, espeically during the week when the price is a bit lower (currently $19.99 per person). Side note order a few apps at a time because of there SMALL size. Now on to the sushi. Again all-you-can-eat so don't have high hopes of award winning fish but still good and very filling. Once you order you wait and wait than wait some more but when if finally comes out you almost forget that your at a "sushi buffet" and enjoy what they made for you. My friend highly recommended this place so my boyfriend and I went last night to check it out. We had an AWFUL experience. We didn't order a crazy amount of sushi for our first try because we aren't use to this place, but it took us 50 minutes to get 3 rolls made and 3 hand rolls! I could understand if it was busy, but it was a Wednesday evening and there were barely customers. Beyond that, there were 3 sets of customers who came in after us and got their food first, not to mention one of them ate and left and we were still waiting. After all of that, we were hoping the food was at least good, but it wasn't great quality. The rolls were very small compared to the usual size and it didn't taste as fresh. I love this place, and often come here for fun, special occasions. The service is great, and the price is cheap, $20 for all-you-can-eat sushi and hot food menu. I came here with a small group Saturday night for a friend's birthday. We did not have high expectations. Most ordered all you can eat. Restaurant wasn't Busy. Food: What we did receive (implying strongly we didn't get all our food) was average, close to ~3 stars. The sashimi pieces were as tiniest I've ever seen. rolls were bland. ribs ok tasting, too fatty. No tuna on sashimi menu???! Service: This is where they really shine (sarcasm) . They asked me what I wanted to drink without offering a menu. When I ask for a menu I was presented with an annoyed look and eventually one came five minutes later. My wife got water, I was never asked if I wanted any. I finally ordered a beer and instead of asking if I wanted a large (which wasn't on the menu) I got the small. This was never an issue just a funny point that shows how sloppy this business is. Later, someone else did ask if I wanted large beer?!?! If all you are concerned with is ripping off your customers wouldn't you start with upselling them on beer? On our table of 7 the waitress took the orders of 4 and then disappeared, although we were clearly ready to order. Food starts coming out probably 4 or 5 plates before the rest of the table's orders were taken including ours. So we endure more rounds of food coming towards half the table while we've yet to get anything. This is now 20-25 minutes into our dinner. Thirty minutes passes and we've still not gotten anything. We have empty glasses nobody cares about refilling. Finally someone gets up and finds the manager, I end up submitting a 2nd written order to the clueless waitress for our appetizers. Only seconds before, we got a plate of SOME of our entree only problem was a couple next to us, not in party noted that the platter of sushi was half their order. The waitress takes it away, Shortly after we get our entree, our initial sushi order of 1 roll, 1 hand roll, 3 sashimi. We still haven't gotten the appetizers at this point, the salad, soup or tempura. Meanwhile the other end of the table is in utter dismay as well as some have finished their dinner and some ordering a single roll have gotten nothing (40 min after sitting) . So finally about an hour into our meal we get our appetizer course, salad and soup(wrong soup, gross udon thing) and hot apps. About this time someone claiming to be the "manager" (looked 18 years old) came over to ask who in our group was eating the all you can eat and who was ordering of the menu. Then he asked who was having all you can drink, we raised our hands. 1 of the people in our group who was NOT eating all you can eat but had ordered ~$30 worth of food was told he didn't "qualify" for the all you can drink Sake. This was where I first almost blew a gasket. The waitress never mentioned this, the promotion was posted at the entrance and they wait until this guy is on his third sake before saying he all of a sudden doesn't qualify? Continuing on they keep bringing out food, most of which we are like asking everyone "did anyone even order this? ", implying they are serving us food we don't want so they can charge extra for what we don't eat which is a non-discretely placed policy all over each table.(so shady! or sheisty? or both?) Finally we have gotten ~80% of what we originally ordered and though somehow still hungry, call it a night. We wait for about 20 MINUTES to get our bill despite the entire table waving our hands. Mind you nobody was ever asked if they wanted more to drink or if they wanted deserts. It was almost as if this place was doing everything possible to never be profitable. To my surprise they charged a gratuity of 18% !!!!! Listen, I've eaten in 100's of restaurants (hole in the wall to fine dining) across a couple dozen states and half a dozen countries and I've never gotten worse service than this. The audacity to bring a bill over with 18% gratuity! I immediately waved down the 18 y.o. mngr. and started laying into him about the absurdity of the 18% charge. His rebuttals were all about his boss and his wait staff...as if I care about any of them. They aren't my problem. He referred to the TINY writing in the ala carte menu that says parties five or more automatically will be charged 18%. Sorry I didn't wear my glasses tonight. How exactly can you justify we were served as one group when my wife and I were ignored? Manager discarded my legitimate concerns and instead kept referring to the wages of the waitress not being enough. (HOW IS THIS MY PROBLEM?) Adding insult to injury, he accused me of being drunk in front of our party, what?? off the two beers I had to pull teeth to get ? Conclusion: I will leave out how the night ended for now. I've only gone here two or three times in the last few years and that's because the service and quality of food has gotten progressively worse every time I've been back. They've shortened their menu quite a bit, leaving out a lot of the basics, as well as some items that set them apart from other AYCE sushi spots in the area. Quality has also decreased..pieces of sashimi are significantly smaller, rolls have more rice, the usual cutbacks you'd expect to see when a restaurant is doing downill. From what I've seen on more than one occasion, as well heard through the grapevine, the staff is treated like absolute garbage by management. On top of that, a significant portion (significant as in almost the entire amount) of their credit card tips are actually kept by management. So! If you do come here, I'd say tip in cash if you want your server to actually benefit from it. Based on principle alone I won't be back, there's plenty of other AYCE options nearby with better quality food and less sketchy management. read more

I have never actually felt compelled to write a review before, but after reading a numerous amount of negative reviews I feel I need to share as a very frequent customer. This location in general has gone through many different Asian type restaurants over the years and sadly (even Jery San's) all have failed. I have been to many different Sushi places and tried them all, especially the all you can eat places. Food- I have been to many nearby Sushi restaurants as well as non-local. I have a very picky taste and I absolutely love it here. They have a very wide variety for the all you can eat as well as an a-la-cart that you may do. They even do the fancy boats if you want and they have unlimited Sake specials as well. The food is relatively fresh since they go through their inventory pretty frequently. It boggles my mind when people think that their ingredients aren't as "fresh" as other restaurants which are labeled "higher" class but actually do less overall volume of customers. To me that means the product sits longer uneaten before their shelf life expires. I have yet to have anything here that I didn't enjoy to eat and everything has always been pleasing. I have been here, easily more than 50x and I have never had a bad food experience. Service- This portion varies to a degree. Some of the comments sound like different places to me, such as the guy talking about the hair in his food. IT really sounded as if they didn't finish their food and didn't know they had to eat what they ordered. All the sushi chefs for the most part have short hair and they all ware covers and hats. It'd be some kind of crazy bad luck for a piece of hair to even fall out of their covers AND hats and make it onto your bright white plates onto white rice and the guys NOT notice it. Since they individually put down each roll and rearrange them properly it's just really doubtful. Their service has been about a B+ for me on average, most days being an A. They have hired new people and tried to meet the demand for their flow of people and I think they do a pretty good job of being attentive. I can't recall the staff ever being late on anything, maybe simple they forgot an extra coke you ask for (since they charge and its not free refill). They always refill my water attentively and they always check if I want more food when im just finished and relaxing form my great meal. You do get charged for food uneaten, and it is clearly posted. It is wasteful to order more than you can eat so don't be upset about your own negligence . this place is wonderful and I strongly would recommend it to anyone. I find Mia's sushi to be a little exaggerated in quality and their prices range from average to almost laughable. ex. SQUID AND AVOCADO TERIYAKI ROLL 5 pieces/22.75 (from their menu) I have tried almost every thing they have on their menu and most of them I greatly dislike and some I find to be amazing but hardly worth the price tag For $20 to eat, this place is phenomenal and well worth it, and if you really want to try some exotic sushi and have a full wallet, try Miya's. Today we had the absolute worst restaurant experience ever and it happened at sushi x.. for one thing, the server forgot to bring us our appetizers which was a tuna tartare and pepper tuna- so we had to remind her after she had already brought our rolls. Secondly, the tuna tartare actually ended up being a tuna pate and our rolls were literally falling apart. my boyfriends yellow tail and mango sashimi and still had skin on it so he couldn't really eat it. After, I ordered some fried cheese wantons, and they came out raw and in a puddle of oil and my server went missing for the rest of the entirety of our meal. I asked another waitress if she can get my server for me and after 5 minutes the same lady came back and asked what was wrong. I told her about the fried wontons and asked for them to be remade- another 20 minutes go by and still, no server has come by at all. We just sat at the table for 20 minutes doing nothing as we waited. I tried grabbing the same waitress again since she was the only person that was around and when I asked for the fried wontons she snapped at me and said "you said no!" I was baffled. I can understand that there may have been a misunderstanding or a language barrier but not one single person checked on us in 20 minutes while we were waiting doing nothing. It was unusual and the way she reacted to me was uncalled for. Oh, and Another thing that bothered us was the server came by and swapped our straws from our coke glass into our water glass, twice! Servers should NOT be touching our straws, or messing with our drinks. This was a terrible experience. We didn't even stay for desert. Paid 60$ for terrible service and terrible food. read more

Been going here for many years and I can say that it hasn't changed much. The portion sizes for the kitchen menu at least as far as I've noticed have always been small but that's gonna be the norm at these made to order buffets anyways and all you need to do is order more if you want more. The kitchen food quality is better than I'd expect for food made to order so fast and there's never been any problems. The sushi is average and they tend to really load you up on the rice but that's expected. It tastes good, fills you up, and I've never gotten sick so that's good enough for me. Occasionally if we ordered a lot there has been dropped items but all you have to do is reorder, this has happened at all these kinds of places in my experience. I don't take it as being rude but just being cautious because of lot of people do waste food and some measures had to be taken against it including paying extra for it if it does happen. On the cons sometimes you need to flag down a waitress to get an order in or need something especially if it's very busy. As it got more popular it got a little louder and more festive in there too. A lot of people seem to like to have little parties and there so they catered to it I guess. Pop music the entire time a little to loud at that and multiple TV's on the walls. I liked it when it was more calm because it feels a little invasive for what that atmosphere should be. When we moved to west haven and found ourself living right across of a sushi place, we were delighted, and over a period 4 months we ordered food from sushi X once a week on average. Initially, it was somewhat tasty, nothing special really, but relatively cheap and again so close to us that it was convenient. Over time however, the quality of the fish decreased and didn't taste fresh. A couple of times, they got our order wrong over the phone. We only sat to it at the restaurant once to try the all-you-can-eat deal, which was new to us. Our experience was average, service was slow for being the only people at the time. After these four months our disappointment grew to a point we decided to find a new sushi place, which is now MOMO's. And although now we have to drive to pick our sushi (and they dont offer all you can eat), MOMO's is much better than Sushi X (read my review). It would be nice if Sushi X management increased their food standards, in which case, I would return. In the meantime, I will go elsewhere. read more
