After Yelping for a good idea, my cousin and I stumbled upon Sushi X after reading the mixed reviews. Why so harsh, friends? Usually a BYO AYCE sushi spot is pretty nuts and service sometimes isn't always the quickest, but you are getting all you can eat. Eat slow. Avoid belly aches. We totally overlooked the negatives about service and made a reservation anyway. Selection of hot food and fresh sushi was great and totally what we expected. Service was fast and efficient so idk whaaaat you guys are talking about. Maybe they've gotten better and you should run back there and order 18 pieces of peppered tuna because that stuff was deeeeeelicious. Ginger ice cream was different and surprisingly good. Haven't seen that anywhere but here. Enjoyed our dessert and stayed until close, we weren't rushed at all. Price was right, food was great, service was great. 5 stars, Sushi X. First surprise was price, $28 for all you can eat is the most expensive in the area. Went on a Friday. Then waitress told me upon seating that any leftover sushi will be charged additionally. My water was never refilled. Glass seemed dirty. As for the sushi ... satisfying taste. HOWEVER, the fish on top of the sushi did not cover the whole piece -- seems like they skimped out on amount of fish on the rolls. When walking in my 2 friends and I were greeted very poorly, even while being the ONLY customers there. 2. While looking over menu, the unfriendly waitress tells us 2 people have to do the unlimited sushi if we decide to go with that option. So my guy friend and I decide to do the unlimited while the girl in our group decides to just order a roll or 2 of her liking. 3. When we get ready to order the waitress then tells us the whole table has to order the unlimited which I thought was bogus. We immediately ask for the manager. 4. The manager himself was very rude as tells us if the girl sits across the table away from us then we can do 2 unlimited sushis and she can order for herself. That is just UNACCEPTABLE To recap just go right next door where the sushi is both cheaper and the the staff is way more friendly. I found this place on yelp and despite the very mixed reviews we decide to try it. I have been to multiple all you can eat sushi places and this one is up there with the other great ones I've been to. They have a great variety of rolls and kitchen food. The first time I went, I was meeting my cousin who got caught up with her uber and ended up getting to the restaurant about 45 minutes after me. I was sitting at the table the whole time, and even though they were a little busy they never once made me feel like I had to get up. Once my cousin got there we were both starving. We filled out our order quickly (you place your order by filling out piece of paper), and the waitress came right over. We started off with some kitchen items. We ordered pepper tuna, rock shrimp, gyoza, shumai, a veggie udon soup, and the tuna tartar (which we decided to eat on top of a house salad). Everything came out super quickly. Everything was super delicious, but specifically, the pepper tuna was OUT OF THIS WORLD!!!! I could eat 2-20 of those little slices of peppery tuna heaven!!!! Then we moved to sushi. We ordered an assortment of sashimi which was all SUPER fresh. You can definitely tell a good sushi restaurant by the quality of their sashimi. We got an assortment of rolls, a sakura roll, a butterfly roll, a crazy girl roll, and an "x" roll. We were nervous the mango sauce on the butterfly roll was going to be too sweet, but it was delicious. All of the rolls were good, but the "x" roll was not our favorite. Because it was deep fried, the fish inside cooked a little too much, and we didn't like it because of that. I'm sure other people would like it, but it just wasn't for us. As I arrive I got to choose my own seat, was explained how ayce( all you can eat) works...I ordered accordingly by filling out a paper menu every time I wanted to eat some more, from sashimi/cooked items/ sushi...here it is...most importantly every roll their I ordered was fresh! Very disappointed at my last visit here. My family and I are definitely regulars because it is all you can eat. But I was never truly amazed at the sushi here. This last visit was not a very good one. Myself and the guests I was with all could tell that the sushi was off that night. It wasn't fresh, seaweed was hard to swallow, and it tasted blah. Prices also went up, so in my opinion it is definitely not worth it for the price. The kitchen food is pretty good, I usually fill up on that. In all honesty, I will not be going here again. There are plenty of other great sushi places in Ridgewood that I will be visiting. Also, the water they serve is always warm. No ice whats so ever. Its gross. My favorite all you can eat sushi place in NJ and CT! Each time I have gone there has been a wait, but the staff take your name and number. The wait goes by quickly and you're usually seated within 20 minutes. The menu is quite large with different options for appetizers from the kitchen, sushi, and dessert. Water, hot tea, and dessert are included in the all you can eat price. Even though the place is always busy, staff are great. They take your order sheets quickly and bring out the food promptly. It is easy to get their attention if you need anything. The quality of the food is amazing and tastes great. The one downside is parking is terrible in Ridgewood, so I would suggest Uber/Lyft if you don't want to drive around for hours looking for a spot. read more

The sushi quality has gone down dramatically lately, even though prices were increased. I really didn't enjoy the sushi that I got at all - it was almost supermarket quality - and was glad I hadn't ordered a lot to start. The fish, particularly the salmon, had none of the buttery sensation that I was craving. The wasabi is incredibly diluted and weak, although that might be by design. I still love their hot dishes. My favs, the chicken tempura and gyoza, continue to be must-orders if you're here. The veggie tempura was primarily sweet potato, which is not my thing. Unfortunately, the tempura sauce lacks any flavor. I almost added soy sauce to it for some extra flavor. Service has also gotten worse - all of our servers were downright surly. Most of the tables were occupied but it was not a weekend so there was no line, and thus no added pressure to turn over tables. However, we felt as though our presence, as undemanding paying customers, was an imposition. This is no longer a go-to for me, sad. read more

This all you can eat concept for around $21 bucks on the weekend is a great place for somebody that has very limited experience with sushi and Japanese food. The menu for both the kitchen and sushi is a good size. I will scan and post shortly. You will be able to sample many different items. Just take note that none of them will be great but all are decent. The service was quick and efficient. They turn over the food very quickly whether it is from the sushi bar or the kitchen. We sampled a good chunk of the menu and agreed that there was zero wow factor and nothing worth the return trip. No fresh brewed iced tea and no fountain seltzer are negatives. $8 for a bottle of Voss doesn't cut it. ***SIDE NOTE...If we buy a bottle of water, like Voss, and then they proceed to pour it into glasses filled with "regular" ice does that defeat the purpose?*** I won't be back. read more

Escolar is often mistakenly sold as white tuna but its high wax content causes keriorrhea--which is basically oil diarrhea. Boyfriend has been been handicapped by keriorrhea for the past two days. First off I had to get up & go to the server & place my order(she was sitting down behind the hostess desk texting). I ordered a salmon teriyaki bento box which is supposed to start with soup & salad. Well the salmon came, but where were my soup & salad??? I always love trying new places and the reason why I tried Sushi X was because I kept hearing amazing things about it from a few friends and the Yelp Reviews. I was deceived. The place is a very small place and it gets busy quickly. The waitresses' service were rude and unfriendly. I believe that they are too busy to care about what their customers think. I have had MUCH better sushi elsewhere for a better price. Sushi X charges $25 for AYCE. The quality of the fish at Sushi X was absolutely horrifying. They tasted like it had been left out on the counter for hours. It tasted fishy, warm, and mushy. Secondly, the special rolls were packed with 2 rounds of rice and small amounts of fish. I'm here for sushi. Not for all of it to be just rice. If I wanted to eat that much rice, than I would have just made it at home. Seriously, I just paid $25 for bad quality fish and plain rice. My stomach was hurting from all the rice so towards the end of my meal, I left out small amounts of the rice. The waitress came around to our table, and told us that they would be charging us extra money for the uneaten rice. The place ended up charging me $5.00. In other locations, they would not care about small amounts like that. I am never coming back here again because it is so overpriced. If you want good AYCE sushi for the value, try Sushi Village in Westwood, NJ or Miga in Denville, NJ. Both Sushi Village and Miga charges $20-22 per person. Came here with a party of 8 starving friends on a Friday night. The place was absolutely packed! Half our table was AYCE and the other half were ordering from the menu. The waitress said we can't sit together incase we decide to share our AYCE with our menu orderers. So we pulled the table apart like 2 inches. Then the waitress obnoxiously pulled the table apart like a foot! She could of been a little kinder about it. Whatever, it's all good, we pushed the tables closer together eventually. On the AYCE tables there are kitchen cards and sushi cards where you check off all your crap you want to order. The waitress made us 4 all you can eaters use one card. This I did not like because our sushi then comes out all in one plate. I'm not an avid sushi eater, so mixing everything together was kind of confusing. Surprisingly the sushi and kitchen food comes out SUPER fast! The sushi itself is actually pretty good. The spicy stuff isn't spicy at all but regardless it still tastes good. I wouldn't recommend the miso soup or fried calamari. The beef rib things were pretty good. The crab wontons were my favorite out of the kitchen AYCE menu. Went tonight with a picky 10 year old who was only ordering chicken teriyaki and soup from the normal menu while the rest of us ordered a lot from the unlimited menu. Absolutely the WORSR service I've ever had anywhere! The waitresses were rude, would ignore us and other tables when we asked for soy sauce dishes. They would purposely look away from us when we tried to wave them down for anything. We watched other tables have the same issue. Their only saving grace is that their sushi is good. I've gone here for years with friends and will keep coming back. I'm rating this for the ease of price and experience over quality of sushi. Remember, you get what you pay for. The rice is not top of the line but it's still pretty well cooked. The quality of the fish isn't too bad either. I'm not a huge fan of their spicy tuna or spicy salmon - those ones are sometimes fishy tasting so I recommend getting the regular cut version of those fish. Mixed feelings about this place. Most of it stems from the fact that it looked kinda gross inside. There was a huge a mount of dust in several spots, and the area we sat in looked like an unfinished basement. They have a really good selection of kitchen items and rolls - the best being tuna tartare: a pile of shaved tuna shaped into a heart, covered in panko and topped with spicy mayo. Tasted as awesome as it looked. Another notable item were their beef short ribs. Although not slow cooked, they used some sort of soy faux bbq sauce, and I have to admit I kinda liked it. I would have loved it if it was slow cooked until tender. While I wouldn't say the rolls were amazing, they definitely had a good variety. Quite a few items using mango, soy paper and more than usual of spicy mayo. Of course I had my usual rainbow roll, salmon skin maki rolls and spider roll, as well. The service was really good. Our group of 8 were there for close to 3 hours on New Years Day, and they didn't rush us out. Also, someone in our group was a bit overzealous with her order, and we ended up with quite a few pieces. With the explosions of AYCE sushi booming everywhere it is difficult to find the "best" sushi place ever. Well! SUSHI X1 is probably one of the best in North Jersey. You can find tuna and salmon tartar in their appetizer menu! Peppered salmon and tuna too! Not too many, if any, sushi places contain this in their AYCE menu. Even when the place is super busy, your orders come at a pretty reasonable time. The presentation is beautiful and restaurant is very clean. The ambiance mood lighting reminded me of a lounge too. I've been to Sushi X twice now. The food is average and it does come out quickly, but it really isn't anything special. It's definitely not special enough to expose yourself to what is probably the worse costumer service I've ever experienced at any restaurant. When you walk in, you immediately get the sense that they are NOT happy to see you. They seat you and don't explain how the "all you can eat" works, you just kind of have to figure it out, which is fine. As they bring the food out to you they slam it down, they barely look at you and they walk away before you can ask for anything. Clearly, you are the enemy. The more you order, the angrier and more hostile they get. There is one male waiter who seems really nice and seems to pick up the slack that the two waitresses leave. There is one waitress in particular who glares at you and seems extremely miserable and yells "WHAT?" whenever you ask her a question (which is actually pretty funny after you resign yourself to the fact that the waitstaff hates every single person that walks in there and dares to order food from them). The waitstaff in general is unaware of what the diners need--they are on their phones, or hanging out at the host desk together chatting, most likely chatting angrily about you and all the food you are consuming. and worse of all, they bring you the check before you ask for it, basically saying "alright, get the hell out already". service matters. period. you can eat sushi anywhere, you don't need to feel like your business is not wanted. not going back. read more

Don't let the outside fool you once inside it's a trendy little place. The decor has a relaxing stone wall and soft tones. I could do without the Polaroids of all the people who ate there in the past that align one wall. We started with the standard salad with ginger dressing. Yes! Totally just found a new go to AYCE sushi spot! Finally! So i was on a hiatus from the AYCE because i became turned off with how they have been running. Extra charges for this, that and the third. No thank you! I have heard of Sushi X for some time now and was not willing to give it the time of day. I was trying to be loyal to my original AYCE's. However time for a change and this place called my name! We walked in and it was smaller then what I had pictured in my head. Very narrow and more towards the back of the restaurant was the sushi bar station. The place was almost empty so we had our pick of tables. We sat down knew the routine fill out what you want and how many. I was pleasantly surprised to see a great amount of appetizer options. There were even more specialty rolls here then any other place I have ever been. My one qualm would be the miso soup wasnt too flavorful. I ordered Kani salad, seaweed salad, pink lady roll, dragon roll and a variety of others. My favorite was the individual spicy salmon sashimi. All were very yummy.
