I've never tasted katsu so light even though it's typically fried, and love the sauce they paired the katsu with. It was almost like a mustard? But it wasn't too overpowering or anything. We finished the night with the tempura ice cream, and let me tell you, this is a MUST. I honestly just expected them to throw some panko on top of a scoop of ice cream, but Te-Buru's take is (somehow) baking a tempura crust right onto a giant scoop of ice cream and then cutting up the scoop into wedges. The ice cream surprisingly did not melt all that quickly either, and the matcha flavor was on point. Our servers were quick to meet our requests, nothing super outstanding but made the meal pretty seamless. Prices I think were pretty standard except for their sushi. Those are bit on the steeper side, but again, their fish quality is really good. It's a good sample of all of the fresh flavors available, but the tuna tacos are just a similar and better option. Nikkei Tasting - The Nikkei tasting is the perfect way to try what Peruvian sushi means. It's a fun encapsulation of what flavors they want to bring forward in their dishes. I very much enjoyed the iced tea and appreciated the menu recommending it as a perfect companion to ramen. Although it's unsweetened, it had a refreshingly natural sweetness to it. To my ramen, I added black garlic oil and chili paste. The broth was very delicious, flavorful and rich. I'm not a huge pork eater anymore, which I need to remind myself of. I did really enjoy my ramen, however, next time I'll have to try another protein, extra egg instead of pork or give the vegan ramen a try, for my own good. While HiroNori is a SoCal chain, it still feels like a mom and pop restaurant. The crispy rice with tuna was EXCELLENT! Everything you want from crispy rice and spicy tuna. The tonkatsu was delicious! Great depth of flavor. They bring you garlic and spicy paste on the side. I had to add A LOT of spicy paste to get it up to the level I wanted, but while at other restaurants I've lost the broth flavor when adding too much spice, the spicy paste just enhanced the tonkatsu broth. And the pork in the tonkatsu - truly next level. This is probably the best pork I've ever had in a ramen dish. The noodles were also fantastic with the perfect amount of bite. I loved my jammy egg as well. The restaurant itself is smaller, with fun lighting. There is a parking lot which is great. They're also known for their seared Aburi Miso Cod, which melts in your mouth with umami flavors. They also carry uni, giant clam and ankimo but sell out fast. Everything I've tasted has been incredibly fresh and satisfying. From the kitchen, I really like the al dente edamame with added spicy garlic crunch, their take on Agedashi tofu with spicy red radish and fried onion, baked green mussels and seafood tempura. The agedashi tofu and tempura were executed well, crispy and love the added shiso leaf and umeboshi paste to add flavor to the fish tempura. The sushi chef, Kay, and staff are so attentive and nice. Everything came out quickly and empty plates were cleared promptly too. The sushi bar seats about 8 people (my preference) while there are about 6 small tables.
