I can only judge this by our take out order - we did not sit in as we had to put the boys down to bed... Someone recommended this spot for a much needed sushi hit. So we ordered from their "favourite menu" B & D as they sounded quite delicious...I drove out to pick it up and brought it home to eat. Upon the first few pieces....my husband said "umm the rice is raw". I couldn't believe it! I said no way...they can't screw up rice... but sure enough, they did. It was bits of raw rice - mixed into cooked rice?!? I don't know but I called them back to inform them. They were apologetic and offered to give us a credit for "next time" but I definitely didn't want the credit since we were from out of town and likely weren't going to try them again. They said if I was willing to drive back, they'd be willing to remake it. Of course I was...so back and forth...brought it back... sure enough, not as bad but still not well executed rice. Sigh. The flavours were definitely good, they used gochujang sauce for their spicy rolls which was interesting. This has been my go-to place for sushi in PoCo. The family and I enjoy the maki tray which comes with California roll, dynamite roll, spicy tuna roll, yam tempura roll and chicken teriyaki roll all for 26$!!! I think it's a great deal. For a family of 4 we usually have left overs. I think everything is fairly priced. I haven't eaten in yet but it looks like a great space even for a date. I work in the area and my co-worker recommended this place. We went for lunch and I was pretty satisfied. It is quite beautiful and modern. We ordered a variety of items. The spicy agadashi tofu was one point. I've had spicy before and it was sopping in sauce. This was the perfect amount and was soooo good. The rolls were good, except one was too fishy tasting for me and my friend. The spring rolls were on point, as well as the shrimp tempura. I am planning on coming back. If you're in the area, you should really come and have some grub. The service is excellent. This place seems like it would be a great night out. Looking forward to coming back. read more

I ordered online and picked up during the pandemic. The waitresses were nice in perso and on the phone. The dining Room looks lovely. The whole covid 19 process was very clean. The food wasn't for me. I think there is better sushi in Poco. I ordered the Saba Battera and it was the best dish out of the lot but $15.50 for 6 pieces is very steep, on par with Miku but definitely not as good. The spicy chirashi don was okay, the rice with it tasted good but they were a bit stingy on the sashimi. Tako was too chewy and their tamago was dense. . Their imitation crab in their California roll tasted different and not like what I am used to or what I like. Their chopped scallop was the same. It tasted different. I believe they use a lot more mayo than other places. I would try their aburi and order their battera again but pretty pricey for Poco. read more

I've always wanted to try this new-ish sushi place nearby so last Friday we did a take away. We ordered chicken teriyaki, gyoza, spicy salmon sashimi, "Menu A" and, takoyaki. It's a bit pricier than the other sushi restos in the area but they seem to have a better selection of combined sushi and, the fish was very fresh. "Menu A" consisted of California roll, dynamite roll and spicy tuna (my choice). I really liked the rice that surrounded the rolls, it was neither too sticky nor too soft and had the right balance of sweetness and acidity. The spicy salmon sashimi was also very good. The fish was cut so evenly and the sauce was thick, sweet and spicy. The portion of the teriyaki was generous and well sauced. T1he appys were disappointing though. For $9, we got 4 overly fried gyoza (was it deep fried???). It was dry and tasteless. The takoyaki was also a bust. The exterior was also over dried and, the octopus was tough, dry and tasteless - the creamy sauce couldn't save it. Btw, the soy sauce packets that came with our order was too salty. Sushi On was used to be Ginza Sushi in Port Coquitlam. During COVID, it has moved to the new location and changes the name. After we moved, my husband and I have ordered sushi rolls from this restaurant so many times. The food are already fresh and tasty. Our favorite dish is the lunch combo - Beef/Chicken Teriyaki Bento. It's around $11 including 6 pieces California rolls, Tempura, Spring Rolls, Green salad, and Beef/Chicken Teriyaki with Rice. Food is large portion. Two people can share the whole meal together. Beef Teriyaki is very delicious, especially beef is very fresh. Besides the lunch combo, the special rolls at this place are also yummy too. We had Godzilla Rolls, Angry Bird Rolls, Popcorn Rolls, Sweetie Rolls and etc. All the special rolls are tasty. BUT, we still think if we can dine in, they will be taste better than take out. We will definitely go back to Sushi On after COVID over. Highly recommend this restaurant. read more

Three words... SPICY TUNA ROLLS! They are so soft, flavourful and heaven for your tongue. Even when your stomach is completely filled to the brim you still consider ordering another, they're just that amazing! This is me right now :-) :-) :-) you need some of this spicy tuna in your life. This restaurant is very busy, especially for takeout. They could use a waiting room area or a bench outside. Something needs to be done to organize the chaos at the front door. The inside is nice. Especially the lighting. It was clean and had a few nice design features. The rolls were different sizes and prices. Some medium and some big. The food came on nice bowls and plates. The menu had good pictures. No big tables for large groups and I wouldn't recommend the menu for kids that aren't use to sushi. I give the food a solid B. The staff were scurrying about the entire time and forgetting things because they were trying to keep track of so much. They forgot to bring us part of our meal and didn't check on our table until we were done. The music was also too fast paced and it seemed like as soon as we finished our meal they wanted us out of there so they could seat more people. I would say the restaurant and food is pretty good but the atmosphere is hurried and rushed and they need more staff. Over charging people for food that you didn't bring them seems to be a popular little scam amongst sushi restaurants in general. We have probably experienced that over a dozen times. read more

From their website, I think this is the former Gonzalo Sushi in Port Coquitlam. During covid, they are only doing takeout. We actually ordered ahead online and then went to go pick up. We ordered the Sanago Roll, Ginza Battera, and Negitoro Battera. We had no complaints but certainly other restaurants have elevated their aburi sushi offerings a little more. I had the salmon Oshi and it was good and really packed a spicy punch. The salmon nigiri was tasty and fresh but sadly it was just a short stop in so I didn't try anything else. Every dish at the table ordered by other people appeared to be well constructed though and there was a popcorn cowboy plate that seemed to be a winner. There are alot qof sushi places in POco so I'm a bit tougher on them than other restaurants. Stopped in for a quick weekday lunch. I have gotten take out from them before when the they were across the street and wasn't impressed enough to go back but this new location also seems to have fans so I thought I'd try. The measure of and Japanese restaurant is in their rice. Their steamed rice here was not fully cooked and still a bit crunchy and dry. Fail. Spicy Cali roll tasted too fishy and had the spicy mayo mixed in with the fish - I'd rather it be on top like most places. And the miso soup, while average was nothing special and had fried tofu that I didn't love. In all honestly I wish I'd gone to Taco del Mar across the parking lot. I have been coming here for years...way back when it was on the corner of Lougheed and Oxford and have never had a bad experience...until now. Took my girls out and decided to dine in for lunch...we all have vaccination cards so figured it wouldn't be an issue. Showed my ID and than she asked them for ID...."They're minors," I explained, "They don't require one" The hostess was adamant that they needed one...she even would only accept a school ID (which isn't a legal government ID and they hadn't received yet anyways) or passport (which every child has....I'm sure). Since we didn't have either we left and enjoyed a great meal at Kai. Just in case any one from Sushi On(formerly Ginza) looks...here's an excerpt from the BC vaccination site https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/covid-19/vaccine/proof : Youth aged 12 to 18 Youth aged 12 to 18 can carry their own BC Vaccine Card, or have a trusted adult carry it for them. After the owners changed locations, you would think they would change but they got even better. Just like a good sequel to movie. I go here every weekend and i get the same thing, and it never fails to satisfy. Owners are great chefs are great and even the dine in was great. Though some times they give me low sodium with the regular soy sauce packets, and then sometimes they only give me the low sodium. To add, a couple of times the size of the rolls change, however the change is so little that its not to big of a deal. Another pro is the location is really convenient for me during the weekend. In conclusion, this place is honestly the best place for sushi and i recommend this location to everyone to try at least once, though in some factors it could use some improvements then again, not everything is perfect. read more

We have been going there every week, on average, for years because the food is so good and, until yesterday, the service has been pleasant and quick. Yesterday, we were seated quickly but that was the only good thing about what will be our last time going to Sushi On. Our "server" was rude, and dismissive. He was impatient while we were ordering and actually grunted when we asked for water. While we were waiting for our sushi rolls, three other tables of larger parties were seated, orders taken and food delivered. I did get my miso soup but that was it. After about 45 minutes, my husband asked our server if he had ordered out for our food. He then said "It's coming" and my husband said that we'd pay for the soup but we were not waiting any longer. The server said we didn't have to pay for the soup but didn't apologize or even try to fix the situation. We won't go back and will let everyone we originally recommended trying Sushi On to stay away unless they want to be ignored and/or treated disrespectfully. read more

This was the first time we went there and the restaurant was recommended by my friend, but it turned out to be quite disappointing! Me and my wife went there to have lunch this afternoon, the server who greeted us was not very friendly and cold, she directed us to a table which is not very clean and my wife's chair was very sticky, the server was not attentive at all and finally my wife cannot stand it and had to go to get a piece of wet wipe from the front desk, the server told her should ask for help instead of getting it by herself. I would agree with the server and not to interfere her job if she was more attentive and not just walking around, she lectured my wife repeatedly. That was very unprofessional. For the food, we ordered two bento boxes, one was sushi and one was sashimi, the fishes, salads and the rolls were ok, but the tempura was very disappointing, the flour was too thick and it was too oily, as we can still see the oil dropping out. I will not prefer to go there again unless all other Japanese restaurants are full in the Tri-Cities area. read more
