Chicken Teriyaki Bento Dynamite Roll BC Roll Spicy Chopped Scallop Roll
Debbie R.

Sushi On is one of my favourite restaurants and a place I'm always happy to return to. The food is consistently fresh and delicious, but what also keeps me coming back is the wonderful service. The staff are genuinely friendly and attentive, and I've never felt pressured to hurry through a meal or give up the table. I took my parents there yesterday and they both ordered the chicken bento box. I was actually surprised by how much food they received. With restaurant prices being what they are these days, I thought it was very reasonably priced for the amount of food they were served, and they both really enjoyed their meals. I ordered a few different rolls, and every one of them was fresh and delicious. Another thing I appreciate about Sushi On is how clean and well cared for the restaurant is. We arrived just before opening and had to wait until the exact opening time before they let us in. Through the window, though, I could see the staff still busy cleaning and getting everything ready. I didn't mind waiting at all--in fact, I appreciated seeing that they weren't going to open the doors until everything was just right. Fresh food, generous portions, reasonable prices and genuinely friendly service. There's a reason Sushi On remains one of my favourites.

Feeling peckish on a Friday evening so my partner and I stopped in for a light dinner. There was one party ahead of us but they had a clipboard to put your name and number down to be seated. It was not too long. Hot tea shortly after we were seated and it was relatively quick and easy to order. We got an order of salmon oishi, chopped scallops roll and a specialty roll I think it was called a Godzilla roll. Also ordered a coke zero which came with the can and a cup of ice. The food came out pretty quick and it was all very tasty. Oishi and Godzilla roll has a nice char flavour to it. My partner has come in to this spot a few times already and he has enjoyed his meals each time. He's taken out rolls before and they were still tasty after traveling 15 to 20 mins as well. Would come back , nothing too special but I would know I'd have a satisfying meal each time.

Nestled in Burnaby's Edmonds neighbourhood, Sushi On seemed like a suitable choice for dinner before an evening of canoeing. With plans awaiting me later that evening, I was hoping for a satisfying meal without spending an eternity watching the clock. Stepping inside, I found a clean, tidy, and well-maintained dining space. The atmosphere was pleasant and unpretentious, while the staff were friendly and prompt, making the experience welcoming from the outset. Then came the kitchen's magic trick. Barely had I settled in before the food began arriving at lightning speed. It was an impressive display of efficiency, almost as though the kitchen had anticipated my appetite before I had even decided what to eat. For someone with evening plans, this was certainly a welcome surprise. My order consisted of three sushi rolls: spicy salmon, tuna, and chopped scallop, priced at $21.00. The seafood itself tasted fresh, providing a promising foundation for the meal. Unfortunately, the craftsmanship did not quite match the quality of the ingredients. The rice and wrapping were noticeably soft, leaving the rolls rather fragile. Picking up a piece with chopsticks became a delicate balancing act, with the contents threatening to fall apart somewhere along the short journey from plate to mouth. What should have been a straightforward bite occasionally turned into a miniature engineering exercise involving two wooden sticks and a questionable degree of structural integrity. Good sushi should possess a certain balance between tenderness and firmness. The rice should yield gently without losing its shape, while the wrapping should hold everything together comfortably. Here, the freshness was certainly appreciated, but the assembly could have benefited from a firmer hand. The chicken karaage, meanwhile, offered a satisfying contrast. Its golden, crispy exterior delivered the welcome crunch one hopes for from Japanese fried chicken. However, I found myself wishing for a more generous serving of lemon. A proper squeeze of citrus would have helped cut through the richness and grease, providing a refreshing counterpoint to the fried coating. Sometimes, the smallest accompaniments make the greatest difference. Then there is the question of value. At $21.00 for three rolls, Sushi On feels slightly expensive for a casual establishment in this particular neighbourhood. Burnaby certainly has no shortage of sushi restaurants, and at this price point, expectations naturally extend beyond the freshness of the ingredients to the care taken in their preparation. While the price was not unreasonable enough to overshadow the experience, the fragile construction of the rolls made it a little harder to appreciate the overall value. Nevertheless, Sushi On deserves credit where it is due. The restaurant was clean, the hospitality was genuine, and the kitchen operated with remarkable efficiency. These are qualities worth appreciating, particularly when dining out before an evening of other activities. As dinner came to an end I left reasonably satisfied and ready for my evening of canoeing. The seafood was fresh and the karaage offered a satisfying crunch. Combined with the friendly and efficient service, it made for a pleasant dining experience.

Solid little spot in Burnaby that I keep coming back to. Fish is fresh, portions are good, and everything tastes clean without being overpriced. Service is fast and chill, nothing extra, just efficient. It's the kind of place you go when you want sushi that won't disappoint or drain your wallet. The rolls are massive and the filling to rice ratio is definitely what they are known for and I always end up leaving feeling very stuffed.

Didn't dine-in but ordered a few of their rolls and tempura on Uber Eats because my friend said that this was her favourite sushi place... and I see why. I got their deep fried California roll and dynamite roll. The deep fried california roll came with crab meat which was so creamy and also had a spicy sauce. I don't eat a lot of seafood but this was so fresh that I couldn't get enough of it. The dynamite roll was also very good, it had prawn tempura, and crab meat - again very creamy! My friend got their Godzilla roll which has spicy mayo, teriyaki sauce, avocado, crabmeat and was topped with spicy tuna and tempura crumbs. It looked so good and tasted even better. I think this was my fav roll! I also tried two of their veggie rolls - the avo & mango and inari roll. Both were delicious, I especially liked the avocado and mango combination. I would love to visit them in person and try some of their other options (they have sooo many)

Korean sushi place on Edmonds. Parking is available inside the strip mall lot, as well as on the side streets. Place looks pretty bright and cozy. Staff are friendly and quick. The chirashi don I had definitely scores points on the presentation (cute little wooden basket). However, the portion size is definitely on the small side. Besides an ebi prawn, this dish also comes with a peeled whole prawn. I was able to gaze into its eyes while devouring its body. Ingredients were nice and fresh. Salmon, tuna, snapper, mackerel, surf clam, octopus, tobiko, ikura, and some other bits and a nice chrysanthemum flower. Wouldn't mind coming back at some point to try their other stuff.

Genuinely one of my favourite newly discovered, lowkey and casual sushi places. I've done take out 4 times these past two weeks and it all stemmed from a simple Google search for a quick sushi take out near my work because I was super hungry after work. It did not disappoint. One of these days, I will come back and do a sit down!! I haven't had much interaction with their staff, but just the few times I've been there, they've all been super friendly and greeted me as soon as I walked in. Maybe it's because I usually go in around 4:30-5PM, it's not quite dinner time yet and so it's been pretty empty on the inside. However, it's a decently sized space. It's in a little complex with other restaurants around so it can be challenging to find parking at time. Their menu is pretty extensive, ranging from regular sushi rolls, speciality roles, sashimi, nigiri and other noodle/rice dishes. I like their variety in their normal rolls-- my favourite is their mango salmon roll. I've never had this combo before and it worked really well! They give a generous portion as well. The price is also very fair. I would love to try their speciality rolls once I get to sit down in their restaurant. I highly recommend this place! Absolutely in love with their "no sushi no life" sign... which is so true isn't it?! 10% off on your first online order! ** they have two locations and this is the sushi on Burnaby.

Popcorn Sushi

Super friendly and attentive staff, great food, great service. I ordered the Chicken Cha Cha Cha and the Popcorn sushi. Both were super delicious. The Chicken Cha Cha Cha stayed crispy through the meal, wasn't able very sweet and just what I ordered (mild spicy). The popcorn sushi was delicious, think of a deep fried roll, but not. It had tempura batter, deep fried scallops, prawn tempura and crispy shavings. This is probably gonna be my go to order whenever I come here now. I recommend you check this place out. You won't be disappointed. Came here on a Sunday night and the staff are super attentive. Not once was my tea cup ever empty. Great service.

I've always walked past this place and heard it was good and finally went in - was so good I went twice that week. The quality and portion size is great, super fresh and very creative rolls. I loved the jalapeño poppers and Aburi. For sure my new fav place

A simple but tasty meal at Sushi On . Our daughter ordered her regular sushi but as it was a cooler day, my husband and I felt like warmer food this time. Avocado Roll California Roll Chicken Teriyaki Vegetable Yakisoba For simple, warm, and filling dishes we eat Chinese food more often than not; however, these Teriyaki and Yakisoba dishes really hit the spot. Maybe it's something we should consider eating more often. I love how these dishes arrived piping hot...so hot, that we could see and hear the food sizzling on the iron plate! Service: Good Parking: Free Location: 7617 Edmonds St., Burnaby

Absolutely amazing sushi! Fresh fish, beautiful presentation, and great service. Every dish tasted clean and high-quality. One of the best sushi spots I've tried -- highly recommended!

This is one of a few sushi restaurants along Edmonds St in Burnaby. The place was full when we got here but luckily there was still 1 table left. We ordered the ika karaage ( squid tentacles ), tuna tataki sashimi, OMG roll and a tuna poke aburi roll. We haven't had ika karaage for a while so it was good. It was crispy on the outside, tender inside and it comes with some spicy mayo. It is on top of a bed of spring salad. The tuna tataki was seared right, and it was also on a bed of spring salad. There are some cripsy garlic flakes on top. The OMG roll has avocado and crabmeat inside, topped with salmon, tuna, mango, chopped scallions and masago. There is some spicy mayo on top and teriyaki sauce around it for you to dip for a little more sweetness. This was really good. I would definitely order it again however there are some other special rolls that we want to try, such as magma roll, thor dragon and crazy papa rolls. Next time. The tuna poke aburi roll has soy marinated tuna, avocado, sesame oil, and jalapeno salsa. The avocado is in the middle of the rice, tuna on top. It was smooth, the tuna had a slight sear taste which went well with the house sweet soy sauce. It was well balanced. We will be back if we're in the area.

Very clean nice restaurant. The food came very fast (especially for the amount it was). The food was also very delicious. The service was very very slow. It took 20 minutes to get the bill after asking. Our water glasses remained empty as well. I have been to this restaurant before and everything was great so I'm sad that it wasn't the same.

We took awhile to look so we were asked at once point if we were ready and we sis we needed a bit more time so the server was delightfully accommodating and said whenever we were ready to give a server a call. Later on when we were ready our order was taken by a male staff member. We ordered a decent amount. Miso cheese eggplant, chawan-mushi, fried fish collar served in some kind of broth, 8pc nigiri omakase, blue fin tuna&uni hand cone, another hand cone but I can't remember what was in it..wifey ordered it, vegetable tempura and a black truffle dynamite roll. The highlight for me was the black truffle dynamite roll, it's taste was perfect. The right amount of truffle used and not over powering like I've had at so many other venues. I was pleasantly surprised and delighted. It was smokey, earthy and tasted wonderful. The miso cheese eggplant was delicious, slightly salty from the miso and wonderfully roasted soft eggplant. The fish colar in broth was light and delicate, beautiful flavor and texture. Chawanmushi was soft and delicate, excellently flavored. The omakase which had fish from Japan was delicious, super fresh and masterfully prepared! The tempura came with a green tea seasalt which was different but very nice. For dessert we had the green tea tiramisu which was very tasty. The restaurant itself is small but cozy and wonderfully decorated. My wife and I had a wonderful meal and I would go back for special occasions.

We love the food. Gohan and the miso eggplant were our favorite; the kids menu is a boon too.read more

It wasn't my favorite but it was interesting and food for vegans, I guess. It was part of the big party platter. The wait staff were super nice and Japanese from their accents, which I prefer getting Japanese food from Japanese shop owners and workers. They threw in complimentary edamame. Would probably be a regular there, if I lived nearby.

I made reservations about 4 months in advance. Upon arrival, one of the hostesses opened the door for us, and asked us to wait in a very ornate waiting area. We only waited a couple of minutes before another hostess seated us at the main seating area. The space is very dark, and only lit with candles while the rest of the diners trickled in. During that time they take drink orders, which is limited to sake, wine, beer and a few non-alcoholic drinks. Of note, they don't provide a drink menu, so we were a little surprised by the cost - the yuzu sake and the plum wine were $30 each. My non-alcoholic drink was $12, but a fair size. The theatrical portion started a few minutes later than the official start time - closer to 6pm. The shades lifted, the lights turned on, and the chefs introduced themselves. And from that moment on, they immediately went to work preparing our meal. They operate like clockwork to show the ingredients whole to the diners, and then preparing them, and serving them. Soon as the one dish was completed by all the diners, the next round came shortly after. Over 20+ dishes, there was very little wait time in between each. Each time a dish was served, a hostess was there to describe the dish and provided tips on how best to eat it. The food was overall was very good. I thought a few items were very average, most of them were very good, and a select few were truly outstanding. Most of the ingredients are imported from Japan, so I would imagine that it's part of the reason it's so expensive. This is definitely a splurge meal. I think half the diners at our sitting was celebrating a birthday. On the most part, the food is very good, watching the chefs at work is part of the entertainment, and the service is excellent. It's not some place I could afford to go to often, but glad to do it at least this one time.

Once we narrowed it down to dry sake, our server kindly brought over several bottles and gave us a detailed explanation of each one before we made our choice. Lunch consisted of around 15 courses, with most served nigiri-style. Everything tasted incredibly fresh, and I loved the thoughtful combinations of flavors and textures throughout the progression. Each piece felt distinct without trying too hard to be complicated. The experience finished beautifully with ice cream and matcha--a simple, elegant ending to a memorable meal. Absolutely worth the drive from Seattle. This wasn't just lunch; the intimate setting, pacing, presentation, and hospitality made the whole experience feel special from beginning to end.
