We have walked by this place many times and never have gone in. Well that ended today when we went for lunch. You do need to pay for street parking. No wait. Very impressive, upscale, clean, very nice greeting, above average chopsticks, lots of great choices, lots of beverage choices. The menu even has information designed to educate you on Sake. Everything we had was outstanding. From rolls, tempura (awesome), potstickers, miso soup, getting hungry just thinking about our lunch. The whole experience only took about 45 minutes. Our food came out very fresh and quickly. We will come back more often because of the timely services. I will include this location as a "must try" sushi Resturant! This place is yummy! My husband and I found ourselves in downtown Vancouver over the course of a few weeks for Foster training at the local DSHS office. We got to try some really great new food places and I was thrilled to find Sushi Mo! Over the corse of 4 days, we ended up eating here twice (and I kind of want to go back now!) The first time we went on Saturday, they were not busy at all. It was us and one other couple. Staff was very attentive, food was quick and tasted very fresh and looked amazing. The second time we came on a Friday during the lunch hour, and it was way busier! We were in a rush ourselves and had to order, eat, and pay very quickly as to not be late for the later half of our class. The food was still great and presented beautifully, but staff was pretty busy, so less quick about accommodating our "eat and run" need. My husband ordered the tempura (appetizer) and they brought him the tempura meal - which was much larger, but also much more expensive. Because he thought he was getting the appetizer, he also ordered a box with tons more food. So our lunch bill for 2 ended up being $60 (oops). We were already running so late so we couldn't afford to rectify the mistake. Now we know next time to clarify if we want the appetizer vs. the meal. We'll definitely be back, but maybe during a less than busy time, and when we can sit back and relax and enjoy our sushi rather than be rushed. read more

I can get better sushi from the grocery store. I'm not sure what I'm missing here but sushi rice is not supposed to have a gelatinous consistency. My sushi rice was so chewy I almost thought I was eating sticky rice. The udon comes with carrots and broccoli in it which is just strange. The soup is ok, not great. I've never seen that before. The ambiance is nice at the restaurant but I'm highly disappointed about the quality of food not living up to the hype as one of Vancouver's top rated restaurants. read more

Wow! What a fantastic experience we had tonight at Sushi Mo! The restaurant is elegant, the service-amazing and most importantly the sushi- unbelievable. Monica (Mo) runs a great restaurant. She was very gracious and attentive, as were all the other members of the staff. They all were smiling and there to meet every need. The sushi rolls were beautiful and delicious and each plate was garnished so beautifully like a piece of art. The shrimp tempura was so delightful super crispy and the shrimp were fresh as they didn't have that fishy taste. After being seated and giving our drink orders for the three of us; the first words out of the waitress's mouth when delivering our drinks was they close at 3 and what ever we order would be last call. This place is a little expensive for the fish to vegetable ratio in my sushi roll. I ordered a spicy tuna roll and I feel like there was a very small amount of tuna compared to Avacado and cucumber. It was delicious, But it was over priced, and I hoped for it being an almost $10 classic roll that it would have been a little bigger but At least it tasted good. This charming yet unassuming little sushi restaurant can go toe-to-toe with the best sushi restaurants in Seattle or Portland in terms of the quality and value of what they serve. On a recent work trip to Vancouver, my colleagues and I dropped in here one night and it was so astonishingly good that we came back the next night, ordered more or less the exact same stuff, and were blown away again. The owner and chefs are clearly putting a lot of thought and care into the grade of fish that they buy, how they prepare it, the temperature it's served at, and the presentation around it. I have too many superlatives to heap on this place, so just imagine a string of happy and laudatory adjectives synonymous with "delicious" and "outstanding." This place is so worth the drive to Vancouver. A few other thoughts and observations: --the owner is wonderfully nice and obviously has a great vision and investment for the restaurant --ambiance is very casual --the presentation of the sushi and sashimi is ornate, almost to a fault--we nearly lost a few pieces of sashimi that got inadvertently covered up by flowers --the men's room has a motion-sensitive overhead light, which means if you stand still while you're peeing, you'll eventually be peeing in the dark. I really love their "Vancouver Tower" and it's the best thing I've ever eaten (Really), it has an amazing flavor to it, but I'm not sure how to explain it. Very fresh and delicious sushi with lots of options and great appetizers. We had Edamame, calamari, and gyoza. All were excellent. We had tobiko, bluefin tuna and salmon and they were fresh and quickly delivered. The tea was real Japanese green tea and wonderful, served hot not lukewarm like some places. It's typical, pre-bagged sushi-go-round sushi disguised with nice garnish to justify giving you less and charging you a lot more. I just spent $120 without any alcohol and left hungry and am writing this review from Vinnie's Pizza around the corner. I would stay away from their specials or their "Chef's choice" which is usually called "Omakase" which allows the chef to give you the best available for that given day and allow him to unleash his talents. Unfortunately, for them, "Chef's choice means to charge you 2x more to get rid of their cheapest and oldest fish that should have been thrown away. I am giving it 3 stars because the service is good, and I believe that they may try to get better. I have been there 3x now to give it a fair try. As a Vancouver local, I was excited to find a new sushi restaurant but at this time, I would stick with the Mio chain which is basically what you have but with bigger portions and a more mapped out system. read more
