I REALLY wanted to give this place 4 stars. It's got a great atmosphere: super clean, top-notch service, and a great menu. And I live in downtown Vancouver. So I want his place to make it. I got the thin-sliced fish with citrus chili sauce + sashimi, and my wife got a very-good salmon teriyaki. My "beef": 1) the salad that came with the meal was cheapy iceberg lettuce with 2 little pieces of cucumber. 2) why not offer slight modifications to menu items for more gluten-free options? At these prices, Yama sushi in the Pearl is a 15-minute drive without traffic. So that's the competition. Sorry Sushi Mo, but please up your game! I'm torn. Better than any sushi joints in the 'Couve thus far, & they did have some quality pieces-however-I agree-way over priced. We ended up spending $100.00 for 20 pieces of nigiri, beer, agedashi tofu, & a Diet Coke. If $60.00 hands down 4 or 5 star...but with the weird service, 1/4 of a full tofu & not all fresh fish & very few home base dishes... I'd recommend some kind of nigiri chef special or something that won't leave customers feeling guilty for an overpriced meal that doesn't match an overpriced taste... read more

Friendly service, nice plating. The Jack in the Box was really good and the citrus aioli was brilliant - light and bright. The miso soup was nice and flavorful. Now for the less successful - the space needle was disappointing. The texture was tough. The "shredded wheat" topping was a tasty gimmick that made a huge mess. My significant other and I both love Sushi, and coming from CA are used to such a great variety. Not too much in Vancouver, other than Mio Sushi that we both really like; so when I saw this new business on Yelp I was stoked! The decor here is beautiful! Super modern and upscale looking. We ordered the Crunch Roll, another Roll I can't remember & the spicy chicken dish. The prices are VERY over priced for the quality, quantity and taste. We absolutely detested the crunch roll - we read that it had smoked salmon, but didn't think it'd be the only taste in the roll. Super over powering! There weren't really any fried tempura flakes on top like most places. The second roll was a piece of shrimp on top of the rice with avocado and crab - it was cut like a hamburger square. Was very tasteless. The spicy chicken was really good, great flavors but the portion size was super super small esp for the price. We conveyed a smidge to our waiter of our unhappiness on some of the dishes, and she was SUPER sweet and brought us red bean and green tea mochi ice cream on the house - which was fantastic! Probably won't be back, super sad to say - unless they changed some menu items! read more

We got the worst teriyaki chicken we've ever had, and not only that, $19 for a very small amount. The worst, most fishiest and saltiest salmon skin rolls ever. And our order was wrong. I ordered the sashimi salad bowl. It was amazing, with all sorts of veggies and fresh fish in it! Sashimi salad is kind of my must-order when going to sushi places. I have to say they made it with the perfect balance of meat and veggie. My husband ordered Ika and Toro nigiri. He said they were really good too! He really enjoyed the taste of shiso leaf in the nigiri btw. Plus, the service is top notch. Monica is super sweet!! She's apparently passionate about every little detail of the food and make sure several times that we're happy with it. She also offered us free mochi after learning we have a long drive to Seattle till midnight. I highly recommend you trying this sushi place. I bet it'd be an enjoyable experience! read more

This place has so many good reviews, I do not understand at all. We were so excited to try this place, and we were astonished at how bad and how expensive it was. The nigiri was ok, a bit fishy but nothing too horrendous. It's all downhill from there. We ordered the Vancouver tower, the green mussels, and the paradise roll. All of these are absolutely smothered in an inexplicably neon colored array of sauces - yellow, orange, and green. Completely unappetizing and all you taste is sauce. It makes me wonder if they are covering up substandard fish. The tower was too spicy to eat. The baked mussels were chewy and Had way too much siracha. We also ordered a side of steamed veggies for our little one and none of the vegetables were cooked all the way through - still crunchy. The staff seemed to know very little about the dishes they were serving, and nothing at all about the sake on the menu. They were nice, our waitress was mostly attentive and everyone was super friendly but I just can't let all these good reviews go unchallenged. The food is not good. read more

Went there on a Sunday night . The tempura was great and so was the seaweeds salad so I had good hopes for my sashimi combo . Well It sucked . At 42$ my 12 pieces shouldn't come with six pieces of salmon . The seared tuna was terrible , not fresh at all . It comes in this over sized lighted bowl . I have had my fair share of good sushi in my lifetime and I kid you not when I say that this is hands down the best sushi I have ever had. I met the owner of Sushi Mo when she managed Mio. Considering that we arrived for their soft opening - you couldn't tell. The service was fabulous and the decor is modern and excellent. I loved the pineapple sake to start off the evening. Then my hubby and I split the seaweed salad & poke salad (the fish was so fresh and buttery). We also split the caterpillar roll & spicy tuna roll & we also ordered yellowtail. Everything was so fresh and beautifully presented. I am beyond excited that downtown Vancouver now has a legitimate sushi restaurant!!! read more

I was hoping for better food, but I'm wondering if it's because it was take out. I read so many good reviews and seen so many yummy looking pictures but it was a big disappointment. We ordered Chicken Katsu and that was delicious, however, we didn't receive the Katsu sauce (which was a bummer). The Cali Tempura roll was not good, the batter was too thick and not light as tempura usually is. I ate the salmon, and it was good but disappointing to get two tiny pieces with the given price. Not sure if I'll try this place again once it's open for indoor. read more

Monica is the best! When she left our area we were very sad but then we found out that she had opened Sushi Mo. The food is delicious, especially the downtown roll. This is my wife and my favorite sushi restaurant in town. The staff is always so friendly and the food is magnificent. The only problem is not spending a ton of money. Sushi Mo is one of the best restaurants I have ever eaten at. The food is amazing, and the presentation is absolutely sublime. However, the thing that makes this place special is that the owner is out on the floor all night, attending to the customers, one by one, and on a personal basis. Seriously, this restaurant could stand on its laurels simply by the quality of it's food alone, but the fact that the owner goes out of her way to make you feel *special* is something that you don't get to experience at a restaurant very often. I just tried this place out for the first time with a group of friends for a birthday. Service was good for the most part, however, they do not designate one server per table. All servers see every table. This can get confusing, and you end up asking several people for the same thing. The food came out decent for the most part. Definitely not the highest quality fish, and some questionable tasting rolls that were slightly fishy. We all decided to pick a roll and share, so there were a few that everyone was trying to avoid (I believe the salmon skin was one). The jalapeño bomb and mussels. I was really hoping for the creamer type muscle like you get at the sushi conveyer belt places. This just did not satisfy that craving. Had a last minute girls night and decided here. Dont usually eat in Vancouver but occasion come here. I thought this place looked delicious based on reviews from yelp- I thought it was a little more expensive than I would have normally paid for sushi but it was the closest place with multiple Sakes. Volcano roll was presented so cute! and was really good, spicy for me but thats a given. Had the caterpillar and Downtown 1012- both were very fresh tasting. The eel really stood out and the avocado was green (not old and browning) so a little reassurance to the freshness. My only thing i didnt like was i dont think they took us seriously when asking about Sake, when I asked about different kinds they seem to say 'its good' or stuff like that. I was not expecting to find sushi this good in Vancouver. Much to my surprise, Sushi Mo stands among the best sushi to be had in the greater Portland area. The dishes are well put together with a nice variety on the menu, but what really stands out is the quality of the ingredients. I don't think you'll find fresher, better quality fish anywhere around here. An unskilled sushi chef can render even the most exquisite ingredients mediocre, but the chefs at Sushi Mo know their business. The cuts were perfect, the presentation was delightful, and even their cooked items were prepared with obvious skill. It's very hard to find good tako, even in Portland. Sushi Mo does it perfectly. It's the best I've had outside of Japan, no joke. The staff is friendly, the chefs are extremely competent, and Monica is a treat. Friendly and gracious to a fault, she brings the whole experience together.
