The sweetest people here! I recently went here for the first time with my girlfriend and it was amazing. The food was so good especially for the price and compared to a lot of sushi places around it didn't feel plain. It's one of those small restaurants that has such a good environment on the inside despite how it looks from the outside. My experience going in was also great with the service being so kind. Unfortunately when I went in, a very rude man picking up a DoorDash order had caused a sort of scene by yelling and raising his voice at the employees because doordash had made a mistake on their order. We felt super bad because it takes someone pretty heartless to yell at the people working there so a lot of compassion grew in my eyes as they kept on making peoples orders after that encounter happened. Overall it was such good food and with the nicest people working there, I had to write this review sharing my experience. read more

I think I may have found my new favorite sushi place! Absolutely delicious sushi! Everything from the freshness of the fish to the presentation was top-notch. The rolls were beautifully crafted, perfectly balanced in flavor, and melted in my mouth. You can really taste the quality. The ramen was incredible, a must-try! The broth was rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. The noodles had just the right amount of chew, and the toppings were fresh. The staff was great. I believe it may have been the owner serving us. She was so kind and working so hard to serve everyone during dinner and it was getting quite busy while we were there. I frequent the Mall 205 location of Sushi Sapporo, and was delighted to learn this Vancouver location has an expanded menu and is located just a few blocks from my parents. In fact, the menu is so expansive, it took me a few minutes to figure out what I was going to order. I ordered a Pick two teriyaki plate with marinated pork and teriyaki chicken as my sides. I also ordered a miso soup. The portions are generous, and the pricing is in alignment with what I'd expect to pay elsewhere. My partner and I ordered the food to go and had a lovely picnic at Fort Vancouver National Park in a grassy field with picnic tables. The woman who took our order was friendly and helpful, and was attentive to our needs. She double checked the order before it went out, and made sure it was packaged well. I appreciated her attentiveness. The food was fresh, juicy, and I'll definitely be coming back for more! read more

Time management in the food industry is critical and challenging. The food here is generally good, we come here often for our to go lunch. Yesterday was an upsetting experience .. placed online order at 11AM opening time, and was there 10 minutes later. Waited and waited and waited .. along with UberEats/door-dash frustrated delivery drivers. Then 1 hr later we see bags and bags of prepared food to go getting picked up for what appeared to be an office lunch order for 40+ people. Our food was ready over 70 minutes after placing our order. That is NOT ok when you are on a limited lunch hour. Us regulars got side-lined for this 1 huge order. Perhaps limit large orders to 6 guests, require that folks place such large orders 1 day in advance so the restaurant can better plan ahead for such a disruption with additional support staff. We could have driven across town to another sushi place, ordered, eaten lunch and drove back in less time than our experience yesterday. 3 health violations from a few months ago doesn't bode well either. read more

This review is long overdue. I went here a few months ago for the short ribs and they were soooo good. I came back kept getting the orange chicken cooked with sesame oil. Now the bimbap bowl is something else. Real olive oil not some cheap oil. The owner really is looking out for her customers. Very happy as always. Thank you for such good food. read more

Ordered takeout. Was craving yakisoba and driven past this place a few times. By far the best I've had since returning to the area. Plenty chicken and the right amount of vegetables. I was staying in Vancouver and looking for something besides fast food. I found this gem on Yelp. I walked into the unpretentious interior that was mostly empty but for a few tables and chairs. No one was dining in, but one person was waiting to order in front of me, and I think they were doing a brisk business of take-out. I decided to get my meal to go, as my hotel wasn't far. I went with the tonkatsu and got 5 gyoza on the side. I waited about 10 minutes and my food was ready. The service was friendly. The portions were huge, and all delicious. They included two huge tonkatsu cutlets with a cup of katsu sauce. The cutlets were crispy, not soggy, and not overcooked. The rice was well cooked, and the salad hit the spot with that creamy Japanese-style dressing, not unlike a creamy poppy seed dressing without the poppy seeds. The gyoza were crispy on the outside and brought plenty of umami goodness on the inside. This place was awesome! I was full and satisfied after this great dinner. Such a lucky find for me. I used to love this place ! In the summer I would walk my daughter and I here since I live in walking distance and the lady who I assume is the owner used to be super nice and sweet towards me . I came in a few weeks ago and she over charged me , I let her know and she disagreed. When she gave me my Togo order she admitted she did and gave me some cash . Ever since that incident she's rude . We walk in, my child and I, and she ignores us and greets others , she doesn't look at me as I speak to her to order and when she gives us the food she throws it at me and walks away... the customer service is horrible and I'm sad it's gone this far for her . read more

I did not order here, but I picked up an Uber delivery from this restaurant last week and was not pleased. The food looks and smells delicious, I'm sure there's no issues there. I was considering coming back and ordering, from how inviting it looked and smelled. However, the front attendant dropped utensils & napkins on the floor, picked them up with her bare hands, put them in the trash bin (not just drop it, fully push it into the bin) and then went back to putting lids on the dishes to put in the container. She did not wash her hands at any point during the 15ish minutes I was waiting, despite this. Not impressed. Management needs to enforce stricter food safety regulations. Service was also very slow, and I had to apologize to my client for not arriving on time due to the wait at the restaurant. read more

This is a nice sushi restaurant kind of off the beaten path, the interior looks like it's seen better days, but the food more than makes up for it. Their sushi rolls come in large portions and are very tasty. It's not a very glamourous looking place from the outside, but for me the quality of the food trump ambiance. I saw this as a new spot in Vancouver so we thought we'd try it out. We noticed the menu was small and simple but seemed good. The place is pretty small but it was big enough to house a few tables. The gentleman up front was so nice and cheerful. We ordered a ton of food - with zero judgement Spicy pork teriyaki - the pork was cooked perfectly, a large helping of rice & salad - with the dressing on the side which was nice. The pork was spicy without being too much. The flavors were very good. Katsu burger - it was different and delicious! A good thick cut piece of pork, breaded to perfection. A good helping of mayo, tomato and thin slices of apple that helped cut through the richness. Vegetable yakisoba - it had a large portion of veggies and had the right amount of seasoning. Wasn't overly dressed or overtly salty. A variety of veggies and the noodles cooked well. Karrage plate - excellently cooked chicken thighs, crisped beautifully. I wish they were a smidge crispier but they were still delicious. Served with salad, rice and a wedge of lemon. It's a small place and you could easily pass it but I definitely recommend it. I was under the impression that this was still the original restaurant, ordered my old favorites, and was so disappointed to pick up food that looked and tasted entirely different than what the menu displayed. I love OYAKO. I probably order 1-2x/month. My go-to order is the tofu bento box. It's a huge order, pretty balanced nutritionally and tastes amazing. The tofu is perfectly coated in I think panko or tempura. Great sauce, rice, dumplings, sushi, spring rolls. Salad dressing is delish. It's fresh, light and satisfying even though I usually have leftovers. Friendly service. The only thing I don't like is the takeout containers are styrofoam. I guess you never know if what you recycle actually gets recycled, but I'm pretty sure styrofoam takes a long time to decompose so I feel a little guilty when I get takeout. read more

Relatively new Teriyaki style restaurant in Central Vancouver. I got the chicken bento and I highly recommend it. Every item on the order was very good. The gyoza and eggroll were crisp. The chicken was also very tender and m seasoned nicely. Even the California rolls were really good and I typically don't eat California rolls. I like that the water is self serve. The location is very convenient and the interior was very clean. The food came out quickly in to-go containers in case you want to take it on the road. This is a good alternative to Ichi and Joy Teriyaki. read more
