I've read the majority of the 3 star and lower reviews of this place just to see what everyone could be complaining about. Sounds like they just have really high standards or are faulting the service instead of recognizing how incredible the food is. I'm not a giant fan of Hawaiian style grills, however this place fucking CRUSHES it. I've tried Hawaiian style grill places in Portland, Beaverton, and Tigard that have a following of people who say it's incredible. I haven't had a showstopper meal like what Hawaiian Style Grill has done. Most places are overpriced, hyped up, and just mediocre. This place is decently priced, the service is just fine, and the food is great. It's truly a gem for Hawaiian food in the Portland metro area, and I'm proud this one is on the Vancouver side of the river. read more

On a rainy afternoon, we came to seek some comfort food before we joined a jumping birthday party near by. Since our objective was to grab a quick bite, Hawaiian Style grill served this purpose wonderfully. The overall restaurant atomphere was very chill. There's no music playing in the background while everyone patiently waited for their number to be called. The staff at the register was not conversational but friendly enough to make a smooth transition. I read some previous reviews mentioning bad service, however, my experience was on par with what we experienced in Hawaii. We ordered the mochiko chicken and short rib combo. Overall we liked it as the meats were flavorful and the rice was good. We were surprised to find there was a layer of rice underneath the meat, but we were ok with that since we were not in the mood for lot of meat anyways. We also ordered a Hawaiian sun (juice drink) and enjoyed it. There were a lot of variety and I really enjoying picking/trying new favors. They have consistently been making mistakes lately and it's getting to a point where I will not be returning even tho they serve great food. I was hesitant to try this place out but decided to give them a try. Pros: Big open seating dinning area. Lots of tables and space. I liked that it doesn't feel cramped. The decor was questionable. Food flavor is 9/10. Huli huli chickens cooked perfect. Rice was cooked perfect as well. Food amount 10/10. They give you a very decent amount of food for the price. I could not finish it all. I will probably make 3 meals out of it. Prices are fair. Lots of free parking. Areas of opportunity I waited 25 minutes for my 2 plates. Not to mention I had to wait 5 minutes just to order and no one was ahead of me. There was about 7 people behind me. One worker was bagging orders and the other other one was doing something on the side. No acknowledgements or sense of urgency. Staff that was working was not very approachable. No smiles, no thank yous or have a nice day. For a Hawaiian place I did not feel the aloha. Lots of people got their food ahead of me. If I ever came back, I would DEFINITELY order ahead of time. I ordered pickup from these guys on the way home and I had the lighter katsu and was disappointed because: 1. The chicken katsu is soggy and not crispy. Why? a) Because they put the teriyaki veggies below the chicken katsu. This made the bottom of the katsu soggy. b) there is no proper ventilation on the top of the plate for the steam to escape. 2. The veggies are cooked in a teriyaki sauce. Why? I would've been content with plain steamed veggies. The sauce was unnecessary and to me adding teriyaki sauce didn't make it a truly a light katsu. Mac salad is soo boring. It is literally a crescent shaped tubular noodle tossed in mayo. Nothing else. Some salt & pepper or tanginess woulda been great but this has no flavor. Add it yourself. Musubi? Uh i wish you guys tossed the rice in rice wine vinegar when it was freshly made and hot to add more flavor to it. Then u can roll it. How about placing the spam in the middle of the rice then wrap it with nori instead of at the top? Try it. Or how about adding a fried egg? I am use to spam musubi with fried egg and alot of flavor. This was not it. It's not bad but not great either it just seems to be there, made. I had their katsu about a month ago and it was perfectly seasoned and but almost soggy. Mac was always boring. Today, I was disappointed with the katsu. But its nothing an airfryer and my own seasonings at home can't fix including the mac salad where I can add things to it. I hope they can stay consistent serving good quality food. They do give u healthy portions but I did order the Ali'i size which is bigger than the regular. Hawaiian Style Grill is truly an excellent place to eat Hawaiian food in generous portions at a great price. Most meals can be ordered regular size or ali'i (larger/king) size. They also offer lunch specials. We live over an hour away and still regularly make the trip to eat here because it's so good. We've had everything from chicken katsu to kalua pig and spam musubi. We've enjoyed it all! The dining area is pretty expansive, though some areas are sometimes blocked off. We've never had an issue with finding an open table, though. I've noticed they do quite a few takeout orders, so this prompted me to visit their website to see if they have an online ordering platform. They do! Hawaiian Style Grill also caters. After eating here many a time, I can say in good faith that the food is delicious, and that I've always left happy. I can't wait for my next lunch here! read more

If you're looking to eat here, don't !!!! the service was very horrible, worker with tattoos on her left arm (about 20 years old) was sassy because i didn't tip. My total was around the 28$ range. I love to pick up my food and leave. It's my first time here so I would like to experience the food first before I tip the next time around if I come back. She had me wait for close to 25 mins for one meal and as soon as my food was at the counter from the kitchen, to be served to me (customer) she decides to take a snack break. This place hits the spot, we can't seem to find a good Hawaiian place near us but when we found them when we visit Vancouver we were stoked! We come regularly whenever in the area. We always get the chicken Katsu plate (regular) it's a huge serving size. We love the way everything is good and the macaroni does not disappoint. The place is pretty big lots of seating and the ambiance is usually pretty relaxed. The Haku BBQ Chicken was so good! Chicken was cooked perfectly, marinade provided a nice flavor and a spectacular char. The Katsu Chicken was crispy, I'm thinking that next time we order take-out I'll ask them not to slice it so it doesn't dry out. I can slice it at home. The Mochiko Chicken, little chunks of seasoned fried chicken was okay, we felt like it was much less chicken than either of the other two chicken dishes we ordered. We also ordered Spam Musubi. Generous portion of rice, a fairly this slice of spam wrapped and ready for dipping. What's not to like! We also had the Korean Short Ribs. My husband was disappointed in the amount of beef. We had upsized the other items (if I remember correctly they only offer one size of the Korean Short Ribs) and of course there was far more protein, although even with upsizing the beef was the same price. We probably would not order this item again. And I had to wait an additional 10 minutes after everything else was sitting on the counter waiting for the beef to be ready. My grandson who requested Hawaiian (as usual when he gets to choose) was vocally disappointed with the Mac Salad. Macaroni and dressing. Nothing else. No veggies not even a sprinkle of green onions. Just overdressed macaroni. That being said, in the future I will not upsize as you end up with enough rice for three additional meals! Rather I will order the meal and an ala carte order of favorite proteins. And although I enjoyed each of the meals (everyone tried each others meal) I did regret that noone chose the Loco Moco. I generally only order Loco Moco when eating in the restaurant, in my opinion eggs don't travel well. But I still missed it! I'll have to visit soon just for the Loco Moco. It was very busy. A few tables were waiting for food when I arrived. A steady stream of folks came in while I waited. In all it took close to an hour from the time I ordered until I walked out the door. Hawaiian Style Grill is my go to for Hawaiian food! The restaurant has an island vibe decorated with Hawaiian decorations and music playing. The service is always pretty good. The food is always the same, meaning it's not going to be good one time and be terrible the next time you go. I have been coming to this place for years and have never had a disappointing experience. It says 30 till is ready and I get that I when 30 minutes after my order and the order it wasn't even on process. I waited 45 minutes and I kept asking about my order and is not ready even the people that last to come they take their food first. The food is always unbelievably good, the staff is incredibly kind and patient and very sweet. I think a lot of customers lack patience these days. Hawaiian Style Grill is not McDonald's or Burger King. It's fresh and hot food made to your order, and it's a very popular place. My favorite Hawaiian food spot to go to in Vancouver. I like going for lunch and getting their lunch specials. Chicken is nice and charred as well as tender, super tasty. The service was amazing, I ordered for pick up and my car broke down on my way there and I had to get it towed which took like 3 hours and they remade me my spam when I came to the store and also included the ones they had made previously. I went here because I was nearby and it was buzzing. The service is amazing. The people are very friendly. Great atmosphere and music. But the food was lackluster. I'm used to an amazing macaroni salad and it had little flavor. Same with the Kahlúa pig. Not much flavor. The sauce was amazing tho! Forgot to take pictures We ordered the mixed plate with Huli Huli chicken and the Teri beef. I would barely give this a 1 star review. The meat was sooooooo dry. The beef was like jerky and the chicken was literally just dry!!! Second we ordered the loco moco. The patties were way over cooked, as was the egg. It barely had any of the gravy on it. Now, I am sure this is not the staffs fault, but you can't add anything to the loco moco. Most places I've been, you could order corn, or onions or mushrooms, or all three! Nothing at this place.
