This a fun tiki bar with a solid happy hour menu. The inside is quite large and open with fully immersive tropical decor. I loved the music, the dim lights, and the occasional "tropical thunderstorm" that would go off. Our server was friendly and checked in often. Focusing on the happy hour dishes, I tried the fried tofu, spam musubi, kalua pork, and hurricane fries. The tofu had an amazing panko breading and the fries came with addicting dipping sauces. The Mac salad, pork, and musubi were ok but could have used more sauce and/or a flavor punch. I do wish there were more fresh happy hour options as everything was fried/greasy. It's very dark inside but have a bunch of pretty lights and every 10 minutes or so a different light show goes on that is tied to some weather event (rain, volcano, etc.). What a disappointment. While the atmosphere was interesting, it was not top notch for a tiki bar. The tiki drinks were weak and the lapu lapu tasted overly strong lemonade. I came in late on a Sunday afternoon/early on a Sunday evening and discovered myself in a tropical paradise. I almost never fall in love with a bar or restaurant on my first visit, I admit that I am at least enraptured. You step in the door and need to stop at the hostess station for seating, even at the bar. It is dark, so you pause and take in the tiki decor. There is a video, complete with sound effects. (You might jump when the thunderstorm hits -- I did!) The menu is Hawaiian-influenced, and although I only had two appetizers, the spam musubi and the wings (try the dry rub!), I intend to sample entrees like the kailua pork on future visits. Finally, my bartender, Madi, was a delight, combining friendly and excellent service with mixology flair. She definitely helped make this an over-the-top experience, and is one reason I will be coming back to Wahi Hana. read more

This place is SO FUN! We were staying in town about 5 blocks away so we decided to walk here one night on a whim. The exterior doesn't offer much to catch your eye and at first it kind of felt like you were walking into some secret club. We were seated right away at 8:30 on a Saturday night. Our server was very outgoing and friendly and did a great job explaining and recommending drinks. The only food we got was an order of fries but we loved them. They cut them very thin and they were the perfect mix of crispy and still soft in the middle. Both of us liked our cocktails but the star of the show for me was the Dole Whip float with rum! I would've gladly had two of those in place of a cocktail. Yes, the prices here are a little high but we expected that going into it. You're paying for an experience here, not just food and drink. Holy coconuts! I wanted to Tropic Like it's Hot in there. Wahi Hana opened in December of 2022 and I'm so upset I'm just finding it now! We sat at the bar on a Friday night The bartenders and staff were super friendly - and the drinks are magnificent. Strong Dole whip drinks - they even have the shaved ice. You can smell the smacked mint from your seat. Beautifully crafted cocktails! We ordered the Lumpia, St. Patrick's Day Cornbeef, and Tofo Katsu! My husband is Filipino and we love lumpia! Lumpia was good and a nice complement in the sauce! Cornbeef meal was delicious as well. I loved the Katsu sauce but wish there was a little more of it. & would have loved a side of mac. We ended with the Pinapple Upside Down Cake - and it was perfectly sweet and well made. The ambiance is everything! You feel like you are on vacation in there - and I want to be there every Friday night now. They even have a thunderstorm and flickering lights every so often. Despite being wedged into the corner of basically a strip mall, the folks behind Wahi Hana have really done wonders with this place. From the faux-grass and bamboo facade out front, to the immediately arresting lighting and color scheme within, you are instantly transported away from the (admittedly improving) drudgery of downtown Vancouver into a proxy Polynesian paradise! Although Wahi Hana has been on my list for some time, it was some friends of ours that suggested coming here this past weekend, for drinks and dinner. I booked the table a week in advance. Reservations are recommended, folks. You could probably score a walk-in on occasion, but I wouldn't risk it, especially during peak times. The drink menu is larger than the food menu, with several classic tiki bar standards, as well as a few more adventurous ones. The menu doesn't specify this, the little torch icons next to each cocktail indicate its relative alcoholic potency. All around, we ordered the Missionary's Downfall, the Zombie, the Test Pilot, a Royal Hawaiian, and a Kanaloa. Each of the drinks was fantastic in its own way, but I did note that at least one of the cocktails was so loaded with ice, there was hardly anything in it: a pretty weak pour for a $15+ beverage. Two orders of Mahi Mahi tacos, some spam musubi, and Kalua pork graced our table shortly thereafter. Flavor-wise, everything was enjoyable, although each dish had one flaw or another that seemed easily addressed: the tacos were too dry (not enough salt), the musubi too salty (too much seasoning), the Kalua pork a little cold, the Hawaiian mac a little bland. Still good, just...not great. There's room for improvement here. Throughout the course of our experience, our server was fantastic, although by the end, we all got the feeling that we should probably vacate our table sooner than later, as we were likely holding things up. And there's only so many volcanic eruptions (possibly triggered by the ordering of certain flaming cocktails?) you can bear interrupting your conversation before it's time to evacuate the island. All of us really enjoyed our time at Wahi Hana, despite a few minor nitpicks. Be warned though: a night out here is an expensive endeavor, as even a couple of drinks and an entrée per person will set you back over $100, easily, not counting gratuity. Your patronage here may appease Pele and the Polynesian gods, at the cost of sacrificing the contents of your wallet into the flaming heart of the volcano. read more

We went to Wahi Hana last night on a pub crawl. The organizers of said pub crawl called each location to notify/ ask permission for our large group to come. Despite this, they staffed 2 people. Our waitress bumped into someone and dropped her tray of drinks, blamed it on the customer, rolled her eyes and loudly said it was going to be awhile before our drinks came out again. Drinks finally arrived and tasted foul. Those who ordered food waited 30+ minutes to be served cold dishes. This place really makes me want to visit Hawaii! They have a Hawaiian themed menu, with wonderful drinks to try, and amazing food! They have a video thing that plays in the background as if we are actually in Hawaii. They show the beaches, weather, and a volcano erupting on a screen that they have! The staff are phenomenal. One if the waitresses came and checked in on my table before leaving for break, making sure we were okay. She brought me another drink before even going on break! It also seemed like the staff are all willing to work together! Beautiful decorations. I love dining here! I have only been here twice, and I always miss it when I am away. This is an absolute diamond in the middle of the city - a completely unexpected find! The restaurant is in the back corner of a parking lot, in the crook of an "L" formed by what appears to be a two-story office building and another non-descript building. You walk in through a courtyard, and that is where you begin your transport to the islands. The ground is lined with astroturf, walled with bamboo, and you then walk in through a door into a dimly lit lobby area. The restaurant is very dimly lit - so much so that each table has a small LED lamp on it so you can see the menu and your food, but this contributes to the whole vibe of the place. There are no windows. Instead, they have TV screens in various places and on the ceiling, showing images of the islands. The "weather" will periodically change, from tropical rain storm to sunshine, thunder and lightning, even a volcanic eruption at one point! This is all timed to sounds, music and the lighting in the place. The center of the restaurant is dominated by a large wraparound bar, with booths and tables surrounding. The menu is about 8 pages, with the first two pages dedicated to food and the others dedicated to island-inspired cocktails. They do have a few options for beers, one was a Kona Longboard Lager (which I had and was perfect for a boiling hot day) and the other was another Kona that tasted like grapefruit (my step dad had that one). I was excited to see spam musubi on the menu, but I ended up getting the sliders (two spam, one beef). They were super delicious, and I wish I'd gotten all three spam! My mom ordered the mahi mahi and said she can't wait to go back. Service was quick. We arrived around 2pm on a very hot Saturday when there was a car show in the area, and the restaurant was mostly empty (or maybe it just felt that way because of how dark it was). read more
