This place was a great date night. Causal but also intimate. The food was amazing, the service was even better. You can tell they care by how welcoming they are when you walk in the door and how good service is when you are at the table. We got a couple different rolls and all were great, the Dustin, the spicy snapper, and spicy edamame will be reordered. read more

Our first visit to Sushi Michi today while visiting AZ family and it was GREAT! Our table had edamame, mozzarella sticks (for the kid who only wanted cheese!), shrimp yakisoba, tuna sashimi and seafood noodle soup. Everything was fresh and delicious. Staff was great too! read more

A new Japanese/sushi place in the area?! Of course I had to try it. First off, the hostess/waitress is an absolute gem. Their bubbly-kind energy is enough to brighten up any room or individual. They provided courteous, humorous, and most importantly, prompt service. So why the 2 stars? The food. We ordered the Kevin roll, David roll, Salmon roll, Tonkotsu ramen, and Spicy Miso ramen. Of the 3 rolls, the Salmon roll was my personal favorite. The other 2 however had elements that made the roll taste unsavory (over-ripe avocado, sitting imitation crab). I definitely would recommend the fresher rolls vs. the cooked/fried rolls. Now the ramen. If you like Tonkotsu ramen with rich, seasoned broth packed with umami flavor, this is not the place. The Tonkotsu broth tasted like the vegetables found in it; you know the common ones found in Tonkotsu ramen... carrots, broccoli, and cabbage... I want to reiterate the warmness and kindness the hostess/waitress bestowed upon us. If you are looking for a place with good vibes and mediocre food, then Sushi Michi is the place. read more

Grabbed quick takeout from this spot and everything was pretty good. I had a spicy tuna roll, the spicy edamame and some miso soup. What I ordered was pretty basic but was still tasty. My coworkers and I continue to come back on our lunches and we have come back many times since my last review! It's a favorite for us all. The sushi is always fresh and super delicious. The nigiri is always great portion with not a lot of rice. Their spicy tuna is some of the best ever! I love that they have flying fish roe as well, not many places do. The service is always great, the server is always so sweet. Seriously one of the best sushi restaurants and always a good experience. I don't think I mentioned it previously but the inside is super cute as well. Btw don't be intimidated by the limited parking in the front, they have more in the back. Overall, solid sushi spot. Ordered a to go order for their takoyaki, spicy fresh water eel roll, and sushi combo (spicy tuna roll, accompanied by 6 pieces of nigiri. I was disappointed by the takoyaki as it was missing both aonori (dried powdered seaweed) and katsuobushi (dried bonito flakes). While I do not think the omission of these two toppings "ruin" the takoyaki, I believe that these two toppings enhance the aesthetics and overall taste of takoyaki. So, huge bummer. Especially because the primary reason for me wanting sushi/japanese is because I had a huge urge/craving for takoyaki. Anywho, proceeding to the sushi. Decent, adequately fresh. The nigiri was very on par with my other go to sushi places. I will definitely make it a point to dine in one of these days to get the full experience as I've read from other reviewers that the customer service and warmth of the employees is great. I may even update my review if my dine in experience is positive. I also need to try a few of their specialty rolls, a lot of them sound very tasty (though I wish they would not have so many with cream cheese. Cream cheese just deducts from their authenticity, imo..). Also need to sample their sashimi. Regardless, I am happy they are in the neighborhood. read more

The service is great-waitresses answered all our questions and checked back often. My friends loved the sushi. My husband and I loved the Bento box and tempura vegetables. The tonkatsu ramen was also good, but difficult to eat because the noodles were so long. It came piping hot, so I had to wait till it cooled a little to eat it. The portions are big. Finally, a neighborhood sushi place!!! We live right around the corner, so Sushi Michi is going to be dangerous for both our wallets and waistlines. We sat at the bar and had a fun conversation with the chef and other patrons while watching the Sunday night football game and gorging on sushi. We started off with the yellowtail and white tuna carpaccio which were SO fresh! We also decided to go for the shrimp shumai and miso soup as appetizers. Along with the sushi menu, there's a whole list of other goodies like ramen that will be a big hit when the cold weather hits in just a few months! We then ate WAY too many rolls. These rolls are bigger than anticipated, so be aware when you're ordering - the price for specialty rolls is about 25% higher than some of our other typical haunts like sushiholic, but the size of the rolls are also about 25% bigger (not just the rice - the inside too!) so it definitely evens out. We had a fresh water eel roll and then hit up the specialty menu with several of the named rolls like the Ann (their version of a Phili roll), a Nicole (gotta get my namesake!) and a Ryan. We rolled out of there (get it?) STUFFED and then had to walk back to our house. The sushi chef at the bar (owner?) also let us know that he can arrange for an omakase sometime if we call and arrange ahead, which I think would be absolutely delicious. Super excited to be a regular at this awesome new place! read more

It's not going to blow you away but it is a very reliable great go to for sushi and asian food I like the sesame chicken dish a lot, the Tomas roll, the Gyoza is good, it's a good value lunch spot too. If you live in the neighborhood in biltmore/north central like I do, I come here often as a go to take out spot on a weekend. Will definitely go back often , the sushi is good not great but it's a very solid spot! read more

I came here to satisfy my sushi hunger and wanted some food to take home. I ordered a Rachel sushi roll which is basically a spicy tuna roll with a little bit of tuna on top. With how prosaic it was, it would've been way more cost efficient to just order 1 spicy tuna roll and and one tuna roll. The sushi was presented well but didn't taste as good as it looked. I ordered a tofu curry bowl to take home. I didn't want any cabbage on it and I was severely disappointed that not only did they remove the cabbage, they took out all the other vegetables that I was looking forward to eating. I saw on the outside that they had lunch specials. I arrived during lunch time and didn't see any lunch special menu that I was aware of. Service was amiable and straightforward but that's what I expect when I was one of 3 customers there at the time. Overall, a forgettable experience that cost me $34.84 (includes tax and tip). read more

Been keeping an eye out for the opening of this new little gem in the neighborhood. We went and had our first (with many more to come) meals here, which we were eagerly awaiting. First impression are important, and it was more than expected, warmly greeted as we walked in from pretty much all of the staff, the smiles and comfort presented was amazing. Now for the food....fresh, fresh and fresh. We sat at the bar, and as we always do, had the chefs decide what we should have. Alex and Yung knew exactly what to serve, and we were impressed with the selection offered and the expertise of flavor combinations and presentation. The appetizer was amazing, we each got the crispy rice and I love that each one was a different fish and slightly different flavor. I don't remember which roll we got, I think it was the blue dragon one, but that was delicious, good amount of rice and fish and great flavor. The truffle rib pasta was good as well, the short ribs were cooked perfectly and the flavor on that was insane. I do wish that they would've tossed the pasta in the same sauce the rib came in before adding it to the red pasta sauce. The pasta sauce itself lacked flavor and just tasted like blended down tomatoes. If the pasta had a scoop of the rib sauce too, that would be absolutely insane!! For dessert we didn't have a choice and it was just the miso caramel cheesecake. Now that is some of the best cheesecake I've had in an incredibly long time. I don't taste the miso flavor in the caramel besides the salty sweetness of it but that combo was perfect, especially with the homemade candied pecans. I don't know if the cheesecake was left out or purposefully like that but I love how when the cheesecake was served it wasn't cold! Usually cheesecake is served really cold and kind of like a cream cheese brick you have to cut into it with your fork. But this was barely chilled so the cheesecake was not super cold and it just melts in your mouth. It's so smooth, best dish of the night hands down. This place was very nice and great location. Everything is clean and a great ambience. There's a bar you can sit at when you walk in before you go to the tables. I do think that every side smaller table should automatically have the table lamp for light because it was just too dark to see the menu from my perspective. It looks like great lighting in the pictures because the phone took it in night mode and corrected the lighting but... it's a bit dark and I saw that they do have those modern battery table lamps so I think every table against the wall should have it. Now onto why it's only 4 stars. The service was so beyond incredibly slow. I kid you not we waited 35min at least before our first dish was served and it wasn't even the appetizer, it was the entree rib pasta. You could tell just how short staffed they were and you could hear that there's only 1 sushi chef 1 regular chef and that's it for the kitchen. I don't know who is managing the shift schedule, maybe it's because we came on Memorial Day, but this type of service is not acceptable. I don't take this on the employees at all. They were so incredibly nice and apologetic and doing the best they can and even the front of house was now bussing tables to help out!!! We ordered Salmon Lemon, Spicy Tuna, Salmon Avocado Maki and California rolls to share for two. This restaurant uses purple rice rather than traditional white rice. This was the first time we have tried a sushi roll made with purple rice and we both loved it. It added a nutty flavor and hearty texture. Purple rice is similar to wild rice and far nutritionally superior to white rice with more antioxidant and fiber. Shortly after we ordered we were served a potsticker dish. I mentioned that we did not order the item and were informed the appetizer was complementary. We thanked the server and tasted the dish. The potstickers were nicely pan fried and had a great crust and flavorful chicken filling. Delicious! About five minutes later our rolls were delivered. All were fresh tasting and delicious. We didn't need a reservation since we had a small party, but I would recommend if if you're coming with a party of four or more. We sat at the bar and ordered four dishes from different categories, which was a great way to sample the menu; though honestly I think we probably could have gotten away with just 3 dishes for a party of 2. We tried Yam Mamuang Boran (old-style green mango salad), Boo Pad Pong Garee (crab curry with ginger), Tom Yum Haeng Sen Yai (dry tom yum with wide noodles), and Naem Khao Tot (crispy rice salad with fermented pork sausage). I've never ever seen a restaurant do that before. Really not that bad but really not worth the $20-$40 price tags either. I'm open to coming back and trying other dishes. Our wait person was the same one we had previously. Her mood was Just pleasant enough to pass the pleasantry test but with a dose of " if I have to be nice to one more idiot..." simmering just below the surface. The food was "fine". My trout almandine had large chunks of nuts overpowering the fish. A different way of serving a dish that usually has a nice crispy delicate coating. This was like a lumberjack was coming to dinner and they wanted him full. Wonderful warm sourdough bread. Fresh, perfect green beans with scalloped potatoes that tasted as if they had been reheated from some earlier conception date. The bread pudding dessert was a nicely done finale but that was soured by our request for some decaf to go o with it. Our waitress said she would be happy to make some. I lifted my expectations momentarily at the thought of a nice fresh cup of steaming coffee accompanying the dessert. She came back two minutes later to deposit two mugs at our table. I thought, "wow, how do you brew pot that fast?" And then I tasted it and I knew. This coffee had been sitting on the burner for at least a few hours. Most of us know that specific taste. Which also means, since she said they didn't have any decaf made...that this was caffeinated. A double whammy for that time a of night. Sad to say, I had nothing last nite that would persuade me to negotiate a parking lot full of gym goers so that you have to park 10 min away,in the heat, for only so-so food served less than graciously.

They close from 3-4 between lunch and dinner, so we came at 4pm one weekend. We were welcomed and told to choose our seats. I picked the two person booth in the corner. The restaurant is nicely decorated and inviting with a good amount of seating. We were greeted in a friendly manner by the servers and given cold waters. Lots of options on the menu, including some interesting sounding specials. We both decided to get their panang curry with tofu, I got 4/5 spice level and my friend got 3/5. Once our food arrived, we were excited to dig in. It looked so appetizing and colorful, plus I could see the red pepper flakes which indicated the spiciness. There was a good mix of veggies and the tofu was crispy and chewy. The curry was flavorful and spicy, I enjoyed it! I tried my friend's dish and hers had more of a kick at the end, so they may have mixed up our plates but we both were fine with our food. I'd like to come back and try some other entrees, like their noodle dishes. They have another location in North Phoenix that's a bit closer to me and one in Tempe as well. Would recommend! Taking one star because I dined here recently and the spicy noodles were not good. Lacked sauce and flavor, too many sprouts, and not enough noodles.

Most of the lower set tables were taken so the rez came in handy. Ample bar seating available however. Greeted right away by server and offered drink menus. Both the drinks were phenomenal. I originally wanted the Asahi but they were out of it so they gave me a Japanese Lager from Los Angeles (?), blanking on the name. The Caipirinia was the other drink which was made authentically as well. No complaints on the bartender. Food was 3 Bao Buns and a Chow Mein entree with grilled chicken added on top. This was the perfect amount of food for 2 people. The Bao Buns were extremely soft and light on the breading. If you get them from Din Tai Fung they tend to be dough heavy. These were NOT like that. Chicken and Eggplant buns were tasty and had a light kick to them. Noodles were probably the weakest items, I prefer the rice/flat noodles, but these were normal chow mein noodles. But I had to split the dish with my dining companion who enjoyed the noodles quite a bit. I'd go with Udon or Flat Noodles next time and ask them to add chili flakes. No room for dessert but it sounded delicious, something with bananas. Mhmmm!

There were still about 4 groups still in the restaurant, but was mainly open. I could see this place getting busy during the weekends though, so recommend a res if you're here during peak hours. We started with cold sake and a couple of cocktails. Super cute and yummy drinks, creative and complimented the overall theme. The Asahi beer was huge and came with an ice cold glass, perfect! We got the orange chicken and drunken noodles with added chicken breast. The food was fresh and tasty. I liked that the orange chicken came with rice, and was not overly breaded. The drunken noodles were pretty salty but overall good. These two entrees were enough for two people to take a little bit of leftovers home. Recommend for a nice date night or if looking for some Asian fusion. We'll be back!
