Toro Special Set. Dining alone is pretty nice.
Danielle G.

Came in on a Friday evening around 7 PM and was warmly greeted at the door and seated right away. The tea was warm and comforting, which set a great tone for the meal. I ordered a few nigiri from their wall menu and was pleasantly surprised by the generous portion sizes. I also enjoyed a Japanese beer and had a really relaxing solo meal. I never felt rushed, and the overall atmosphere made me feel like I was dining in Japan. I'll definitely be back to try their lunch specials next time!

Lunch Bento with tonkatsu and sake sashimi
Kathleen P.

The $16 lunch bento price was hard not to pass up on. It definitely filled me up, but my tonkatsu was on the dryer side. I ended up still eating everything though, so it was good enough lol! The salmon sashimi was fresh and my favorite part was the salad. It came with a light vinaigrette dressing. This spot is cute and cozy. I'd come back to try other sushi dishes.

Miso soup, salad

Located in downtown Millbrae and unassuming from the outside, but fish freshness inside! Came here for a weekday dinner so it wasn't crowded and the servers were very polite. Miso soup was good but no tofu, and salad could've used more dressing. The Negitoro (fatty tuna, green onion) roll and there was wasabi inside, I enjoyed this. The Deluxe Sushi which included 8 pieces total - 2 pc tuna, yellowtail, halibut, salmon, shrimp, salmon roe, egg/tamago. The egg had a hint of sweetness. The yellowtail sashimi entree came with 10 pieces and soup & salad. Each piece of fish was fresh and delicious! I left feeling satisfied with, would come again to try their other dishes and specials.

Too Much Coleste Roll
Alex Raven M.

The sushi here definitely emphasized quality over quantity. The freshness and flavor of the fish was so good, even the soft shell crab was a burst of flavor. We enjoyed the simplicity of the rolls. Other sushi places have over packed rolls where you can't really taste the individual flavors. This place seemed to value the ingredients. The servers were very polite and checked in frequently. The outside is very unassuming, we've passed by it many times but only tried it just now. Once you enter it has a very authentic Japanese aesthetic. We found it very cute and pleasant. (For 21+ the plum wine is a must try)

Nabeyaki Soba

This spot is a modest Japanese joint in downtown Millbrae. I've had takeout a few times in the past year and am always satisfied with the quality of sushi! Today, I ordered takeout again! I really appreciate that for takeout items, they include a tamper sticker when they package everything. It provides some reassurance. I ordered the Deluxe Sushi and the Chicken Katsu today. The Deluxe sushi came with 10 pieces of sushi variety (i.e. salmon, tamago, tuna, shrimp, roe, etc). The fish was fresh and juicy. A check for quality! As for the the chicken katsu, I was pleasantly surprised. My past experience with chicken katsu hadn't been a pleasant one. It was usually dry and overly coated. However, this chicken katsu was tender and had a nice outer crunch. Perfectly cooked! In addition, the precut oranges were sweet and nice touch! Overall, the food is quite good in terms of quality. However, the price is a little steep for the amount of food. My partner and I ordered two different entrees, but still felt hungry afterward! Despite that, it's still definitely worth trying to support a local business!

And the CA roll pieces were pretty good size. I've been to other places where they skimp on the size. Wife ended up getting chirashi bowl which she enjoyed as well. Overall not a bad place for sushi. They also have a special omakase box that looked really good but didn't get a chance to try.

There are a lot of parking lots around the area that are easily accessible or parking on the street if it's not too busy. But the restaurant is in a Main Street, I wouldn't recommend parking in front because there's always congestion. Definitely recommend if you're craving Korean food and happen to be in the area. Inside is clean and staff are fast and polite. Unlike other places they offer to remove the bones and cut/mix the dish for you after they bring it out. Good portion of meat and clear noodles. My only issue was there was a lack of sauce. When it first came out the majority of the liquid was already cheesy, and by the time we were half way through all of the sauce had absorbed into the meat and noodles. I like to spoon sauce over my rice so I was a bit disappointed overall with their Galbijjim.

I was looking for a sushi place in the area. I was surprised to see it was in Bayhill Plaza…read more Upon walking in, this place was packed. It seemed there was only one person who was the hostess, taking orders, and delivering the food. I give her mad props. With the dinner rush she was all over it. I placed my order for to go, she was super helpful, gave me her recommendations, and she had a smile on her face with everyone she encountered. This place has seemed to have gotten an elevated, more modern face lift/ renovation compared to the restaurant that used to be here. I was surprised that they didn't have standard sushi rolls that I'm usually accustomed to, but from the rolls that I've tried here... change is good. I ordered: 1. Corn tempura: First time seeing this, I love both corn and tempura. Had to see what it was about. It was perfection. Now it makes me wonder why this has never been done. 2. California roll: Standard staple and was good. 3. Warriors roll: It's an interesting combo, all items that I like.. first bite you're hit with a flavor explosion. At times I felt I couldn't taste the shrimp tempura, but the crunch from the crunchy onion ties it all together. 4. Beef steak: She recommended me to try this first before trying the daily special or short rib. She did not disappoint with this recommendation. The beef was so tender and flavorful. Overall, a great experience. I will definitely be back for more. I forgot to take pictures, because we inhaled the food so fast.

The creamy Udon, geso karaage and the salmon lover(the wasabi inside the nigiri was overpowering the flavor of the salmon and could be reduced a bit) was my favorite. I originally ordered the creamy udon to fill my fill a bit because the bill would have been extremely high if I wanted to be full full. It was an excellent choice because the creamy mentaiko sauce was addicting. I finished everything in it and I was so close to ordering a bowl of rice to mix in or have the thought of taking the sauce home to make more! The kani chawanmushi was cooked perfectly, although it was lacking some umami. The restaurant was filled at 7pm on a Wednesday evening, thank goodness I made a reservation on OpenTable. The staff was also super friendly and welcoming despite how busy they were.

The first thing I noticed was that there was really not many pieces of ribs, maybe they made the ribs portion smaller to make room for the lap cheung I ordered? The dish description also says that it includes taro, but I didn't have a single piece of taro in my pot. Strangely, although this place seems to share a kitchen with Social Eatery, the rice was cooked much more poorly here, which is obviously a shame for a place specializing in clay pot rice. It seems like the rice had too much water added, so it was a bit overcooked - you couldn't feel the "single grain" mouthfeel texture you should expect from well-cooked, high quality rice. Since the rice was too mushy, it obviously didn't crisp well either. Though it had some small amount of bits stuck to the edges of the metal (not clay!) pot, it was definitely not the super crispy, well browned "faan ziu" I expect, and not at all like the pictures featured in some earlier reviews of this restaurant.

The service was amazing -- one super efficient waiter handled pretty much the whole room with a manager. Very attentive water refills and very accessible. The food came out so quickly and was delicious! Chicken katsu curry is $18 and generously portioned. I got the katsu rice plate (no curry sauce, but a sweet BBQ-ish katsu sauce) which came with a pile of cabbage salad, pickled cucumber salad, marinara spaghetti (somewhat inexplicably, but they do specialize in Japanese spaghetti here), rice, and miso soup for $19. A good deal! Chicken was tender and moist. The chicken katsu udon has a good amount of spice and flavor; just note it's on the spicy side. There was another line after we had left so we got in just in time. Service helped with any questions we had, water infrequent. Food came out quickly which was nice. We had gotten the karaage to share. I ordered the chicken katsu don with the corn potage on the side. My partner had gotten the beef hayashi with omurice. Compatriots had gotten the teishoku plate with spaghetti. Everything was good and cooked well. We loved how quickly everything came out, and a good crunch for fried ingredients. The potage had a nice sweetness to it tho it was a small side. I liked how it wasn't too heavy overall with each of the dishes. The katsu don hit the spot for me since it wasn't too much, well balanced, and just the right amount foodwise. I liked the pickled radishes and sunomono since it worked as a great cleanser between bites. The beef hayashi and omurice was solid, meat cooked well and tender. Sauce wasn't overpowering or too heavy which was great. The aromatics on the omurice was a nice touch too. Compatriots liked the teishoku but enjoyed the curry sauce more annd would've picked that instead. Katsu was still solid but they just wanted to try something different. We'd certainly stop by if in the area again. This was a quick and easy visit and makes sense for the wait considering how quickly food comes out.
