I'm reluctant to post a review of this place because it's such a gem and I wanna gatekeep haha but they're the best! Everything on the menu is top notch and the service is nothing short of it. All the servers are great! Eric is always the best. After trying the entire menu, I'd say the Kashiwa secret box is the best value. Always a fan of the hand rolls (especially the spicy scallop), beef teriyaki plate, and their bluefin lovers roll. Sleeper items include the mushroom tempura, the bbq squid (entire squid for $18!), and shima aji nigiri special. Ambiance is great. Very lucky to have a place so local that's Japan-tier quality. Food is good, and prices are reasonable. Location is just okay (not a lot of parking available); small spot with a few tables inside, but if it's busy, it feels tight and can't accommodate large groups as well. The real downside - the service. The most recent visit was slow and non-existent, and we weren't able to get a table, with only one person on the floor in the front house hosting, serving, and bussing. The person was working hard, which is commendable, yet didn't acknowledge people coming in (in addition to us) with a "I'll be right with you" or "We're short-handed"...barely even a glance actually at all. Can't really fault them; they were setup to fail. We went to Soul Rice instead. There are other options. read more

Our family has been to Sushi Kashiwa twice now, and we have enjoyed it both times. Standouts are the Shinjuku and Bluefin Lovers rolls. The walu carpaccio is also delicious. All of their specialty rolls have seemed really fresh and they have some unique combinations, but what was truly surprising was the quality of the salmon avocado roll which came in the lunch combo - with no sauces or garnishes to hide behind, the freshness of both the fish and the avocado came through. It's such a basic item that we would never think to order it on its own, but we were so pleased with the quality! Service on Sundays can be a bit slow, but they only have one waiter. He's very friendly. The parking lot situation (which other reviews may touch on) is strict between each business, so they may warn you to make sure you've parked in a space meant for the business/not blocking any other parking. The restaurant itself isn't huge, but we haven't yet had problems with getting a table. We could imagine that they may get busier for later lunch times than ours. read more

I went here with my parents for a Friday night dinner with a reservation, sometimes it's recommended especially if they're busy! There's a few tables inside, plus seating at the sushi bar. I got excited to see they have Omakase on their menu, and for pretty good price too! It's $40 for a 9 piece set, and they were all so delicious! When they serve it, they explain each nigiri, which I appreciate! We also ordered some appetizers such as Chicken Karaage, Spicy Edamame, and Mixed Tempura. We've been meaning to try Sushi Kashiwa since it's close to home and we loved going to the prior sushi place before they took over the location. We had reservations for dinner on Sunday night, and the place was full so I'd recommend making reservations or coming before peak hours. We ordered plenty of dishes to try and we absolutely loved it! My favorites were the Geso Karaage and sashimi. Their fish was fresh and I love that their Geso Karaage were thick pieces with plenty of meat to them. Most places I've been the squid is thin and more batter than meat. Overall, very happy we checked it out and grateful for the complimentary dragon roll! I've been dying to try this sushi spot since stumbling upon it months ago- imagine my good fortune when I ended up moving north and finding a hike within reasonable distance of this sushi restaurant! Sushi Kashiwa is refined and understated gem. Service was friendly- we ordered chicken karaage, uni toro hand roll, salmon paradise roll, salmon nigiri, and 9 piece nigiri omakase. Chicken karaage was one of the best we've ever had. The sweet potato fries were lightly breaded and had a crispy exterior, while the karaage came in large chunks and was made with tender dark meat. Both were piping hot and tasted delicious when dipped in their spicy mayo! Uni toro hand roll was delicious, the fish was fresh and wasabi complemented the flavor of the temaki beautifully. Salmon paradise roll was to die for, I'm not typically a roll person but the mango they use is super sweet and Kashiwa does not skimp on its fish portions at all! Salmon nigiri is as expected, the 9 piece omakase was also incredibly filling. I savored every piece! Came for lunch on a Saturday and there was no wait. We ordered the salmon sampler, oyster shooter, shinkuku roll, and geisha roll. The rolls would fall apart as we picked them up which made them messy to eat. The salmon sampler had a nice variety of different salmons but the fish didn't taste so fresh. Actually, most of the fish didn't taste fresh - they had a bit of a slightly slimy texture and an off taste. Service is ok but space is a bit small. I am kicking myself for not finding this place sooner because we are relocating to Treasure Island in June and only stumbled upon this place about a month ago. The last time I had sushi this good, quality wise, was when I lived in Berkeley. It's loud, a bit rushed, but really amazing food. They would benefit from some partitions or a larger space but I completely understand the rent out here is outrageous so I have NO COMPLAINTS! If you haven't been here yet, it is a MUSTA TRY! We made a reservation but still had to wait as this place is very small and busy. Parking is limited but the food is to die for! We didn't wait long to get our food. My absolute favorite were the fried string beans and the surprise desert which i believe to be strawberry ice cream! This is my favorite ice cream of all time! Definitely try it! It has a different texture but still so delicious. We must've came on a good day because the desert and the sushi roll was on the house! :) The servers were very friendly and the restaurant seemed a bit trendy. Sushi Kashiwa is a cozy sushi spot, but it's got a great vibe. The service is quick and attentive, and they play great, upbeat kpop. We had the veggie tempura and each had a chirashi bowl which is a TON of large, fresh sashimi. There's amaebi and uni which was really nice to have. The slices are so generous that I couldn't finish my bowl. The green tea, red bean, mochi dessert had a nice, chewy mochi that I really enjoyed. Since Sushi Kashiwa opened a little over a year ago and we've ordered takeout from here a handful of times. Their food is consistent and the sashimi/sushi is high quality and fresh. I am not sure why we haven't dined in yet but it is definitely on our list to do. Recently, we called and placed a takeout order on a Saturday night. The order was ready within 20 minutes. This review is actually for 7/3/26. After 2 weeks out of the country we came home and craved something different so we decided on Japanese. We have been meaning to come here cause it's close to home. The ambiance is just ok, the service is lackluster. The waiter was rude and as if we were bothering him. After us a table of 4 came consisted of 2 older couples and he was like a private waiter. They laughed and even shared drinks. The food was good but nothing out of the ordinary but the whole experience was tarnished by the rude waiter. There was also a young lady that worked there it look as if she was his assistant and I believe she gets paid not to smile and to do the minimum. 2 star cause the food and the sushi chef are not to blame. My son and his wife had recently moved into the neighborhood. And we all love sushi and have traveled the world experiencing excellent sushi in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle, Chicago, New York, New Orleans, Miami, Washington DC, London, Paris, Tel Aviv, Honolulu, Maui, Toronto & Tokyo. So on this cool mid February 2025 Tuesday evening when my daughter had flown into San Francisco for the evening before heading to Brazil the next morning we decide to grab a bite to eat near her brother's and sister-in-law's new home. My son recommended we try out a local sushi place very close to their home he had passed by serveral times since moving into the Daly City/Pacifica neighborhood. So we adventure out! We found easy parking out front of the restaurant at a tiny strip mall off Skyline Boulevard. We were greeted graciously and shared we had four in our party. We were seated mid resturant next to the window and very active sushi bar. Our server Vicky was very attentive, friendly and welcomed us with a amazing smile. Throughout our stay she was very professional and helpful on choosing our menu selections. Given this was our first visit (and surely not our last!) We were excited by the colorful and extensive and exquisite selections and their beautiful photos of the appetitizers and entrees. We initially order Miso Soup, yakitori skewers, shrimp tempura roll, for my daughter-in-law who was 7 months pregnant with her first child. My daughter ordered mixed tempura undon soup, and we all shared Spicy garlic edamame and my son munched on his plain edamame. I ordered the salmon sampler which looked incredible on the menu photo and even MORE incredible IRL! Wow! It was extremely fresh, beautiful presentation & very delicious. It is NOW, one of my favorite sushi dishes I have EVER had in 40+ years of eating sushi! This place has been open less than a year and replaces a sushi spot that I had not been a big fan of.My son, the big sushi fan was down visiting from Oregon, so I thought it would be a good chance to try it out. Parking is a little treacherous and I would caution you not to exit on the Skyline Blvd. side. That driveway is almost unnavigable. I was concerned from how it looked on the outside that it would be tiny inside, but it seated probably 30 when full. Our server was also the owner, Tony. Selection, especially of nigiri is quite large and Tony helped us in comparing the different types of shrimp, which was very helpful. They encourage you to try the sushi as the chef prepares it before adding any wasabi or soy. I added it to the Umi Masu, because the large size of these pieces seemed to call out for a "flavor break" Here's what we ordered: Umi Masu nigiri $10: 4.5 stars. I would have liked the pieces a little thinner. They were a bit difficult to wrangle. It was a gorgeous color and pristine fresh Amaebi nigiri $15: 5 stars. Great freshness and quality of product. The heads were fried just right too keep the tasty tiny brains intact. Santa Barbara Uni $20: 5 stars. We had wanted the Japanese Uni, but they were out. This was probably the best S.B. Uni either of us had ever had. Incredibly complex flavor, without being too funky, and topped with freshly grated wasabi 6 piece Japanese Oysters $23: 4.5 stars. These were topped with some tobiko and a served with a tasty sort or mignonette sauce. My only knock was they were kinda small Fatboy Roll $22: 4 stars. This was basically a deep fried California Roll with white fish, scallop, tobiko and house mayo on top. I think if I'd noticed the California roll was fried, we might not have ordered it. It was a little too heavy. Kashiwa Roll $17: 4 stars spicy and regular tuna, spicy and regular salmon, tobiko, crunch and house mayo. Good fish again, but maybe too many different things rolled up into 1. I had sent a Yelp message to them the night before asking I gave them a price point, could they select a meal for us, but when we got there, we decided we'd rather order ourselves. When Tony took my credit card and noticed it said Diane B. he realized I was the one who had messaged him. As a perk he discounted our bill by 15%, which brought it to just under $100. What a sweet touch. I will definitely be back. So many more things I want to explore there. Food: 37/40 service: 18/20 Value: 16/20 Intangibles: 17/20 Overall: 88/100. As a party of 2, we waited for about 20 min on a Friday night at 7pm. They were really busy and received a lot of delivery orders too. So it was pretty lively. The restaurant has tables to accommodate smaller and bigger parties and you can sit at the sushi bar. They do have a small parking lot, but they share it with the other storefronts in the plaza. Make sure you park only in their designated spots. There aren't too many so I can imagine if it gets busy you may need to find residential parking nearby or wait it out for a spot. We loved that the Chirashi bowl came with Uni. It was some of the freshest Uni we've had. The only bad thing was the rice in the bowl wasn't sushi rice. Everything else we had was fresh and pretty good. This is pretty close to me so I think we'll be back again if we want sushi quickly close by. read more

I'm probably a harsher critic because my parents ran a restaurant in Pacifica for many years and they did things a little differently. We ordered chirashi bowls and the quality was very good but I thought it was a little paltry. There wasn't a lot of fish but what was included was typically higher end than the typical maguro, sake, and hamachi mix. It would be helpful if they did thrown in the typical faves too. Service was very good, but I was a little shocked that they rushed people out by starting to mop and ask for people to pay about 20 minutes before closing. My boyfriend and I stopped by earlier this month when we couldn't decide on what to eat for dinner. Usually we make sushi at home to get the biggest bang for our buck but apparently he'd heard about this spot in particular and the menu items looked good so I was down to give it a try. Parking in the small lot was a bit of a challenge as the spots are reserved for the individual businesses. A lot of people seemed to be heading inside the restaurant for weekend early dinner. I was initially worried that we'd have to wait since we didn't make a reservation, but we were seated immediately despite the dining room appearing at capacity. We got the Bluefin Lovers Roll, the Double Hamachi Roll, and the Soft Shell Crab Tempura Appetizer. Both rolls came presented very well and tasted unique, but I was a bigger fan of the Double Hamachi Roll since wasabi isn't my favorite and prefer my bluefin tuna to stand alone. It was my first time having a soft shell crab and the tempura coating on the one here was fried to perfection. Maybe it'll take me a couple more tries to become an official fan but if you know you like this kind of thing then definitely order it here. The ambiance of the dining space was very clean and authentic, but I wish there were hooks under the table or someplace to store a bag besides the floor since the chair design made it so that I couldn't hang mine off the side or tuck it behind my back. read more

We were just vising Pacifica for the holidays and honestly came here entirely due to walking distance proximity. We liked it so much we actually ended up going twice in one week! I will say that we had great service the first night (week night) and less so the second time since it was a busy Friday night and it didn't seem like they had enough servers. Tempura (Green bean & Mushroom) - You'd think tempura is just tempura but both the green beans and the mushroom tempura was top notch. It was so addicting with the light breading and perfectly cooked veggies. Highly highly recommend ordering either tempura green beans or tempura mushrooms or BOTH! Fat boy roll - This roll is LOADED. The roll that sits on the bottom is fried and warm so its such a nice balance to the cold toppings on top. This is definitely a filling roll and the fish on top was very fresh and tender.
