Ordered the Bento Box C for pickup and was really impressed! The chicken katsu was super tasty, crispy on the outside and juicy inside, with a nice dipping sauce that complemented it perfectly. Decided to try this place since the reviews seemed decent and we wanted to see how it compared to Sushi 8, the establishment that was here before them. Came on a Sunday afternoon around 1pm and was able to be seated right away and our order was taken within a few minutes. Server was professional but wasn't super friendly nor did she really smile. Place was nicely remodeled, clean and less cluttered because there were fewer tables. Did not checkout the restroom so cannot tell you if it was clean or if it had seat covers. Food was served to us at a steady pace- not all at once which we appreciated so we didn't feel rushed and we could enjoy what we ordered. We ordered several rolls and meals because we wanted variety and to be able to really compare. Everything was yummy and you could tell had its distinct flavors meaning not everything tasted the same like some places. First timer takeout from Sushi Kashiwa, a small sushi restaurant located at Skyline Blvd & Manor Drive in Pacifica. Did online ordering so contact with the staff was minimal. Decor was minimalist Japanese, clean and warm. Restaurant was mostly full when I picked up my order at 6:30PM. Ordered: AGEDASHI TOFU. This is a fav that I'll always order. This was really good. It really helped that the sauce/broth was on the side. Usually it's garnished with Bonita flakes and green onions. But I believe this was prepped as a dine-in plate then realizing their mistake, plopped the tofu into the takeout container. How do I know? Mystified w/no topping, as I ate my way through, lol and behold, the toppings were in the bottom of the container. Lol. It was still good. But !kitchen! pay attention! CHIRASHI BOWL. Nicely presented cuts of sake, maguro, kanpachi or hamachi, amaebi, uni, ikura, tamago, along with what I thought was a bonus, a fried shrimp head! All packed with wasabi and ginger on the side. Really enjoyed the fresh pristine fish and most especially the fried shrimp head! Wished the uni was a whole one, instead of small slice. Would definitely order again. Sushi Kashiwa's menu is promising with their sashimis and sushi rolls so I'll look forward to dining in next time. The Kashiwa Rolls sounds tempting w/Spicy tuna, spicy salmon, tuna, salmon, tobiko, crunch, house mayo sauce. Yum! I personally thought rice to fish ratio was equal but the sushi rice was weird. There was also an insane amount of sauce on all the pieces so we couldn't taste the fish at all. Chirashi bowl - Again, the rice was weird because it was so inconsistent in texture... some were dry, some were fluffy, some were wet. Fish quality's was okay, not the best, but there was one piece (hamachi belly?) with the thickest skin ever that I didn't even bother eating because I knew it'd be tough to chew. Sushi Kashiwa is a new Japanese restaurant that has come to settle in the edge of Pacifica by Skyline and Manor. As you walk up, make sure you enter the restaurant via the door closest to Manor. Patrons are then greeted by a small setting area decorated by cute trinkets and variations of lucky cat on display. If you hadn't made a reservation, you'll need to grab the sign up sheet and put your name and party size down as the wait here can grow quickly. Once seated, the 2 Page menu is separated by hot foods and sushi for the most part. Having been first timers here, we opted for a bit of both - ordering up our go-to nigiri items as well as some apps and hot foods to get a feel for the menu. Our servers looked a bit busy but were helpful in answering our questions and the food also came at a good pace. As for the food - I found the salmon skin salad and grilled squid very good. The Japanese oysters were also very good and for the price, well worth it. Where we were most excited but also a little let down was by the sushi, in particular the rice. Seafood itself was very fresh as diners have highlighted but we found the vinegar ratio in the rice a little high, robbing some of the flavor away. However, we are excited still to come back and order more from the hot foods and maybe try their popular chirashi. We haven't found a sushi spot around this side of South City, so we were excited to try something new. My mom and I ate here for dinner on a weeknight at around 7:45pm. Upon arrival, we were immediately seated at a table by the window overlooking Skyline Blvd. Ten minutes later, we were ready to order. My mom ordered the Chicken Teriyaki plate (not pictured), along with Shrimp Tempura roll, mixed tempura while I ordered Salmon Teriyaki plate. Another ten minutes passed and our orders were fresh and ready. I'm truly fond of the presentation, side salad, a generous amount of steamed rice and teriyaki glaze. The Shrimp Tempura roll was perfectly crunchy and chewy at the same time. My favorite parts of the mixed tempura include sweet potato and kabocha slices. Thankfully, they were not too greasy and were crunchy yet zesty. The Salmon Teriyaki was grilled to perfection and was not overcooked. It matched well with the teriyaki glaze, lettuce leaves below and steamed rice. I tried a portion of the Chicken Teriyaki and was truly tender and tasty. The side salad could have had less sesame dressing that it became a bit soggy. Perhaps next time, I'll ask for dressing on the side or less dressing. And I think people don't know about this new takeover yet, because it was pretty empty when I went for a Friday dinner, and I think this place would have much more business if people knew about them. 8 Sushi wasn't the cleanest or had high quality item. But that is most definitely not the case with Sushi Kashiwa! They have so many great menu items! I really wanted to explore the menu. I started with the oyster shooter. Man was the flavor bomb is exactly what I expected from this item! Then we got the mushroom tempura, and this item exceeded my expectations! The chefs choice sashimi was good, the fish were fresh, as we deemed by the flavor and texture. The Uni Toast was also amazing! Everything about it - the presentation is beautiful and the taste was remarkable - everything from the layers of toppings to even the toast itself! At the end, they gave us complementary red bean ice cream. They have their own parking lot. Overall, great experience! I did a pick up order during peak dinner time and it did take roughly 30 mins from ordering online. I bought spicy garlic edamame and 3 rolls. The edamame was okay but probably wouldn't order again. As for the roles I actually got a mix up - I got salmon roll instead of a spicy salmon roll but it was still tasty! I also got a lion king which is a classic and solid but my absolute favorite was the Kashiwa roll it was fantastic and not very spicy. Can't wait to go back and dine in. read more

On a Saturday night I was surprised to see it close to empty. There was one server manning the floor so we had to be patient while he tended to the other party. Understandable as it's a new place. Bluefin Lovers Roll ($18), Kashiwa Roll ($16), Sexy Casanova ($18) - The rolls were all okay. For each portion I felt the price was a little high. All the rolls seemed to be doused with the same sweet glaze. Would have liked a bit more variety. Chirashi Bowl ($30) - My friend ordered this and said the fish tasted fresh. Towards the end he was given a bowl with the shrimp heads to finish. It was interesting. I will likely return to try other dishes. read more

Came here for Mother's Day, kids off to in-laws, so the two of us, and a quiet dinner. Going out to eat for us isn't unaffordable, we rather eat something memorable at a reasonable price (don't need to go FOMO, French Laundry, trendy prix fixe place at$150 per). That place was Sushi Kashiwa. Japanese is always a treat and Sushi Kashiwa fits the bill. Every fish dish served fresh fish, no chewy smelly seafood left over from yesterday. We ordered the mini negitoro bowl, mango salmon bowl, pork belly skewers, Kashiwa tacos, and mixed mushrooms. The only dish I wouldn't order again is the mini negitoro only because all the other dishes shone above it. The mango salmon salad was very refreshing, good amount of greens balanced by chunks of mango and salmon in every bite, and a delicate but assertive citrus dressing. The pork belly was seared perfectly, smoky is either being overwhelming but this was crispy, flavorful without being salty or greasy. The mushrooms were good but the two sauces ( sweet chili and a mayo) woulda been better combined instead of separate. And the tacos were a mouthful in a good way, satisfying, tasty, lots of texture made the fun yet substantial dish fun to eat without feeling full. We passed on dessert because we were going for boba. Dinner turned out to be $75 plus tip. Both of us were happily sated and weren't suffering sticker shock. Waitstaff was courteous, friendly, food came in a timely matter. I think we were skipped in line on the list. Then finally got seated and got moved to the back corner:/ they took a while to get our order and when they finally did, it felt like we were bothering them. After we ate, they rushed us out the door saying they had reservations. For the value we paid for dinner, at least let me finish my watery down drink that you gave. I was just trying to get my money's worth:/ probably wouldn't want to come back here. It's a small restaurant and the people who work there don't seem like they like being there which made me not want to go back there either.
