Today was my first time back in almost 2 years and I used to go all the time. Back then, it would have probably been 5 stars for me. I was a bit disappointed this time around. I got the Rocketman, Tokyo Night, and Galactic Booty. The toppings of Rocketman is supposed to have some crunch to it but they were all soft and soggy. If it became that way after sitting there for a little while, I would understand but it was like that from the very beginning. Tokyo night was my favorite roll but it was slightly bland. Same goes for the galactic booty as well. I also ordered the cheese puffs as an appetizer and that was probably the only thing I was satisfied with. I will probably come back again to try it one more time because I really wanted to like it, but probably not anytime soon. read more

They have traditional rolls etc; and some creative rolls and spicy options, a win always. Whenever I come across a person new to sushi - or reservations to raw fish; I usually talk them into trying this place. They have a lot of options that are fully cooked for the raw fish squeamish peeps. The people are great, friendly, and have come to recognize our family. Yes, all my kiddos love this place too. Ordered takeout from this place today and was very disappointed. I ordered the C2 SUSHI COMBO- Tuna roll, spicy salmon roll and 3 pcs california roll. The seaweed was very tough and extremely chewy. Each piece tasted extremely fishy and when I picked up a piece of the california roll, a hair was interwoven between the rice pieces. STAY AWAY! Sushi coast is very creative with their rolls but have a horrible chef team and lackluster customer service. Not at all like the traditional sushi bar, Sushi Coast goes out on a limb with the combinations in their rolls. Not in the revolutionary direction as Uchi does, but in a way that caters to entry level foodies, looking for something new though not high quality or pushing the boundaries. This would be a great spot for them BUT be careful! Sushi Coast serves rotten fish! Unlike another restaurant, I really can't excuse a place that specializes in raw fish to have anything dangerous. When in the sushi business, bad fish can kill someone, especially pregnant women and kids. I consider this very unacceptable. I ordered a salmon roe from here on my 6th or 7th visit and it came out smelling horrible and looked a funny color. I pointed this out to the waitress, and the chef sent it back to me and said it was perfectly fine. It most definitely was not. I've had sushi my whole life and anyone would recognize rotten fish! So a double mark down for not admitting/recognizing your fish is bad! I find it horrifying that the chef could send rotten fish BACK to me! At the very least, for a customer you would just replace it, no questions asked. I will never ever return. Ever. And I highly recommend everyone to STAY AWAY! If you want sushi in Clear Lake and like the style Sushi Coast has, the chef learned it all from the chef at Tokyo Bowl, which has much better food standards and great pricing. 3.5 stars. So I've been to Sushi Coast a few times in the past couple of years and has always thought their sushi to be average and a bit pricey. But the last time I went was soley intended to try their Spicy Fish Don (chirashi). My verdict? It was awesome. I've been on the hunt in Houston for this delicious rice bowl and I think I found a place nearby that makes it almost as good as the infamous Poki Bowl from Tommy's in Irvine, CA. So what's in the Spicy Fish don? There's an assortment of salmon, tuna, and white fish on a bed of sushi rice topped with spicy mayo imitation crab, scallions, and cucumber. The fish was very fresh and cut in large pieces (could've been smaller). They gave plenty of fish and rice! More than enough food for one, and it was very flavorful! I could seriously eat this stuff everyday. The only thing I wished they added in the don that could make it so much better is avocado! So when I get it for take-out and bring it home I always add my own avocado. Overall, good dish! As for the restaurant itself, it's a very casual atmosphere and the decor is a bit cartoonish. The staff could've been a bit friendlier. I don't think the Spicy Fish Don gets ordered that often because everytime I call in the person that answers the phone doesn't know what I'm talking about! But either way, I will be coming back for the don and just eat it at the comfort of my own home- without the tacky decor. read more

Came here with a friend recently for the first time. She lives in the area and recommended it since we were both kind of in the mood for Sushi. Dishes we had included: Seaweed Salad (4/5 rating)- Good portion and tasted very good. Gyutataki (2/5 rating) - We asked them to substitute this with sushi grade tuna instead to the rare beef as described on the menu based on having it with Tuna at Miyako which we both enjoyed very much. Unfortunately, i didn't feel like the Tuna was very fresh here. Mooki Maui Maki rolls (3/5 rating) - This was specialty roll of theirs and tasked okay but nothing spectacular in my opinion. Tokyo Nights rolls (4/5 rating) - Another specialty roll and my favorite roll of the night. Service was very good. I wish i could remember our waitress's name but i can't. She was very helpful when we were ordering and did a good job of coming over to us when we needed something. If I could summarize the food and experience at Sushi Coast in one word, it's that everything is mediocre. The sushi is okay; decent, but not amazing. Something that gives me an idea of how fresh their sushi is whether or not there are a ton of overly sauced or fried items on the menu. Anything can taste good when it's doused with sauce or wrapped with something fried; a great sushi restaurant will rely on the freshness of its fish and the flavors of its raw items. Sushi Coast, unfortunately, has a lot of tempura fried items in its rolls. I haven't had their entrees, but the sushi itself is just par. If stuck in Clear Lake/the Bay Area, I would rather go to Tokyo Bowl for their sushi or sashimi. read more

I was never served, so don't know how the food was. I went to their 'half price rolls' night on Wednesday and was seated after the 30 minute wait... an hour after that, I had gotten NO FOOD, no apology, no acknowledgment. When I talked to the manager in charge, I was brushed off, and told it was busy. DUH!! And, he had NO idea when our food would be ready!! No one around us had food either. I understand a busy restaurant, I was in the business once. However, they do this all the time, so I don't think that it is a good excuse. I have called the restaurant 3 different times for the 'real' manager, who is never in, and never returns a call. So... had I been told up front it would be over an hour after seating (not sure how much more) before I would be served, I would never have stayed and would have appreciated the head's up - but I was not, so therefore at 9pm from a 7:30 pm start, it was too late to go anywhere else. But, the total lack of attention, the search for a manager, and the lack of returning my calls puts this one off the list for us. Besides, T*okyo B*owl and Mich*ru have much better food. read more

I'm baffled that there are ANY 5 star reviews. I chose this place out of convenience but not before reading the reviews. In my mind, it couldn't be any worse than grocery store sushi. I eat sushi 1-3 times per month and rarely have awful food so I tend to forget how BAD sushi can really be. There's a major difference between bad sushi and just "okay" sushi but you definitely know when you have it! I went on a Wednesday around 2 pm. There weren't many people. I believe two other booths were occupied. I ordered the sushi combo and an additional roll. The roll came out first and took about 15 minutes to make. Then after another 5 minutes my sushi came out. I couldn't finish my first roll because it wasn't​ good. I almost made it through every piece but it wasn't worth the persistence since I could barely taste any fish. When my sushi came out I was excited to get the taste of the other roll out but upon the first bite, I knew this was only gonna get worse. The fish was easily room temperature (almost warm) and the rice under it tasted and felt like it was from last night. The fish had an oily taste and texture to it. After struggling through half of the pieces, I moved on to the included roll with the combo. I ate one piece and then asked for the check. The server was friendly and the restaurant was clean but I CANNOT recommend this place to anyone! read more
