This is one of the best sushi restaurants in the area. Even though it is small, it is extremely clean and comfortable. Chef John does a great job as owner, and Mario is always fast and efficient. The menu has something for everyone and Always Fresh! . Highly recommended and easy to find on Marina Bay drive near Marina del Sol/Twin Oaks St. read more

Fantastic times three! This is such a hidden gem. If you haven't been you need to take a minute and head that way. The sushi is very thoughtfully crafted and the flavor combos are extraordinary. We tried the pepper tuna- yum Pink Lovely roll with dehydrated strawberries. So unique and so tasty Flamingo roll and Hawaiian roll with grilled pineapple. From the meal to the service you cannot go wrong. Tip- sit at the bar and watch these guys work. Amazing! read more

Have been coming here for over 6 years now!! Still just as delicious as the first time we came. If you are particular about your sushi then you will love this place. It's very high quality and fresh tasting. The rice to fish ratio is perfect, the temperature, everything here is balanced. If you want the cheap stuff go somewhere else. read more

Fiancé and I love the food here. The chef and owner know our order before we even sit. Highly recommend.

The food was delish! We ordered tsubasa signature roll, crunchy shrimp roll, pinky love, gyoza, donkatsu pork. Everything and I mean every one of those were extremely yummy! The service was great even when there is only one waiter trying his best- the kitchen staff was ready to help. Great ambiance (small and relaxed). We went twice during our short vacation and will definitely visit again the next time. Too bad they're not in Dallas- my kids are obsessed. read more

Tsubasa - We ate the entire sushi roll -- this was a shaggy dog - Sushi Bars Near Me - League City, Texas

Chef John did some major lighting changes to the place and made it more romantic in my opinion. This place is still my favorite sushi place in the whole Bay Area. The owner and chef take good care and detail to their menu items and quality of ingredients. Recently took my in laws here for the first time since it's their first time visiting the state and I immediately had to take them to Tsubasa. They 100% loved it here and can understand why I always come back! If you're in the area for sushi, I recommend you don't sleep on this place! It's too good to gatekeep!! read more

I has been looking for a decent sushi place near Clear Lake and finally found one. The sushi was very fresh and very nicely done. I found the prices to be quite reasonable for good quality sushi. Service could not have been better. Even the owner came by to check on us. The restaurant is a bit small and probably gets busy, so come early. If you are around League City or close, stop in and give it a try. You'll find it was worth it. read more

Food and service was superb! We have many staple favorites including edamame and miso and I'm unsure why theirs was better than our usual favorite sushi places, but who cares. It was better! There are many rolls to chose from and the 3 we tried were unique and delicious. Staff was friendly and took pride in what they do. I will go back, no question. read more

Easily the best sushi this side of town. Fish is always fresh and sourced with care. Truffle seabass maki roll is unique and nuanced and not weighed down with mayo. Interesting niigori sakes and Kirin Light. Hatori Hanzō vibes all over. General Tso Chicken NOT being on their menu is a mark of a focused Japanese restaurant. read more

Always amazing food!!! These people know sushi and have the skills. Very consistent!!!

The best sushi I've had in a LONG time. Fresh ingredients and new flavor profiles allowing us to get out of the old Shaggy Dog Roll rut. I had the Mimi Roll (of course) and it was delicious. I love the small casual vibe of the restaurant. It's appears this little gem is getting busy and in need of additional staff- which is a good problem to have. Awaiting a clean table was well worth the excellent dinner we were served. Will definitely be back. read more

Service and Ambiance were fine. The portions are small. Another restaurant that raised their prices and shrunk the portion size. I had the Chirashi bowl, Pink lovely Roll, and 2 Spicy Scallop sushi for $50. Try Masa Sushi on El Camino much better than any of the South Shore places. read more

Best Sushi place I've been to in forever. Mario is a great guy and so is the staff. Great place, would definitely recommend.

We've been here for lunch a while back, which was OK. Tonight we went again (8 months later). I have no words. We arrive and like a chorus the 2 servers say "seat yourselves anywhere", which we did. A young male server came to our table. We asked about the wine, he said there's red and white. We asked what the white was, he said "red". Huh? Again, what white house wine do you have? We have red snd white. Oh... It's cabernet. Again we asked about the white wine and again he said cabernet. I explained cabernet is red. We want white. He didn't know. He would ask. Came back with white wine choices. Then he asked what we want to eat. We asked for a minute to look at the menu and he left. A minute later the girl server came snd asked if we're ready to order. We said no and literally 2 seconds later the male server was back. This time we said give us 9 minutes please. (So who is our server?? He or she?? ) It feeks like unorganized chaos. As we ordered, the chef must've overheard and then said no we don't have this, don't have that. Two things we ordered weren't available. The sushi rolls's rice was way too thick to properly taste the small amount of fish in it. The octopus balls were tasteless. If the tasteless octopus weren't visible, I would think there were no octopus inside. Tasteless. On every menu item we asked about, the server said I believe (this of that). Never sure of anything. My opinion of this restaurant at this time is the servers are both clueless, management is very absent. The redt of the food was okay, nothing to recommend at all. Oh and the salad was never served, they forgot. Just like servers expect a good tip, I expect good service. I don't know who owns this restaurant, but he/she needs to do some server training. And someone to take charge of the restaurant and operation for the evening. It lacked very obviously. We won't be back. Hope the situation improves for the sake of other clients expecting a good experience. Our bill was $88, you'd think at least we'd be somewhat full ... we weren't. Needless to say ... overpriced. read more

Absolutely love this place. Great food and service every single time my family and I come!

I've been to this establishment a few times over the years that I have lived here and have had an overall positive experience until more recently. The last time I went, my bulgogi was cold and sashimi very thin but enjoyed the rolls, friendly service and cozy atmosphere so we decided to go again. This time, service seemed disorganized and slow. We wouldn't have minded the wait if quality reflected that but the food was mediocre and proportions were small, decent but not worth really the price. At this point, it wasn't necessarily a bad experience but after seeing two cockroaches, we decided to leave. read more

Service was impeccable. The staff is attentive and polite. The ambience is very relaxing and clean. The food is absolutely delicious and exceeded my expectations. Very disappointed after reading the "great" reviews and then dining there. Arrived for late lunch, seated quickly and placed orders, drinks arrived and then the wait began... 40 minutes later we are served rolls that looked like they were pulled out of the trash can! We only ordered 4 rolls and each were clumps of rice with some seaweed and fish shoved on top that again we waited 40 minutes for and only two other tables were seated. Horrible and will never go back read more

Tsubasa - Texas Roll. Like a Philly cheesesteak on a roll - Sushi Bars Near Me - League City, Texas

Was in the area & a friend recommended this place. I'm a sushi snob n was very impressed with the quality of their fish. The cold appetizers we tried were all seasoned well n the sashimi was fresh. It's nothing fancy like other favorite sushi places of mine but it's definitely a gem to find good quality sashimi in this side of town. The price is amazing too! But, the sushi rice wasn't right for me. It tasted like plain rice that I cook at home. I would only come here for sashimi.. If ure looking for a more "Americanized" non traditional sushi place, then this is the best place in town! I prefer my more traditional sushi place with dressed nigiri. read more

This is really a three and a half star review. My husband and I, along with our friend, visited Tsubasa on a Wednesday evening, during the restaurant's soft opening. We were really looking forward to a Korean restaurant opening up in the Clear Lake-Webster-League City area, as there hasn't been one since the one on El Dorado closed down several years ago. My husband is Korean, and I was born in Korea and lived many years there as an adult; in short, we both know and enjoy Korean food. When we arrived, we were greeted by a friendly, young waiter. The restaurant is bright and sparingly decorated. A big portion of the space is occupied by the sushi bar. When we looked at the menu, we quickly realized that 80% of the dishes were Japanese, the majority of them being sushi. I mean, I suspected as such since the name of the restaurant is Tsubasa. It was fine. We like Japanese food, too. We ordered the mini dumpling appetizer, bulgogi, Korean kalbi, tonkatsu, and an 8 pc chef's sushi plate. We wanted to try the food, especially the Korean dishes. The food arrived on trays (which I guess is more Japanese-style (?) but it just makes me think of cafeteria food). The mini dumplings were good--hot and crispy. The bulgogi was fine; standard flavoring. The kalbi is a little too sweet, but I bet non-Koreans would like it. The tonkatsu was good; big portion and standard taste. The sushi was good. Overall, we enjoyed our meal fine. It wasn't a disaster, but it wasn't spectacular, either. Because it's still their soft opening, there are still some customer service kinks they have to iron out. Our waiter seemed unaware of what came with the dishes (soup and salad) and had to be directed at least twice to bring out what was missing from our table. He also brought us chicken katsu at first, when we clearly ordered tonkatsu ("ton" means "pig" in Japanese). But he was perfectly fine and worked hard and resolved the issues quickly. The manager also sent over two additional sample dishes. In Korea, we'd refer to these bonus, free dishes as "service." It was later confirmed that the owner and his wife are, indeed, Korean. I suppose that's why the restaurant was advertised as a Korean restaurant. A part of why we were disappointed overall was because we were expecting a Korean restaurant with a menu full of Korean dishes. Instead, we got a mostly Japanese restaurant with two Korean dishes on the menu. I suppose they would make more money as a Japanese restaurant than a Korean one. Side note: I have never come across a Japanese restaurant in The US that was actually owned and run by Japanese people. The majority of them are owned by Chinese people. If I were to return to Tsubasa, I would order the tonkatsu, as the portion size and quality of food is more bang for my buck. The other Korean dishes are a little overpriced for what you get (but that's common among Korean restaurants). Hopefully, they'll work out their customer service issues, have their grand opening soon, and put up a web site. Good luck to them; I hope they do well. read more

Glad we finally have Korean/Japanese restaurant in this area. We were promptly greeted by the owner (sushi chef) and the server. The restaurant is super clean but kind of small. Food- Dumpling popper (4/5)is really good as an appetizer. We can tell it's really homemade, not frozen store bought. Bulgogi (4/5)- is good. It serves with miso soup, salad and steam rice Galbi (4/5)- very good but a bit too sweet for my taste. Serves with miso soup and rice Chopped scallop roll (5/5). Shrimp tempura and avocado on the inside. Very good quality fish. Price is on a higher side but the sushi quality is top notched. Highly recommend and will be back read more

Wow. Very let down by our most recent visit. Been a while since the last time we've eaten here but this place seems to be falling off. Prices went up. Portions were smaller. Wait was too long for an unbusy place. There was a roach. read more

Gross place. Gave my husband and I both upset stomachs. Also saw roaches in the bathroom and wonder where else they might be...

The dining experience I had after picking up from Tsubasa was extraordinary. The Chef/Owner John's deft hands created delicate blends of flavors that perfectly complimented the extremely fresh salmon, tuna and crab I enjoyed. After beginning with Miso Soup, the Spicy Crab Salad was a delicious creamy blend of spicy crab served over tart Granny Smith apple matchsticks which cleansed the palate. The Sake (Salmon) sashimi was buttery and extremely fresh and the two specialty rolls were amazing! I initially asked to delete the crunchy (fried batter) and to make some other adjustments to the rolls and fortunately, I was asked to initially try the rolls as they were customarily made. Excellent advice! The flavors and textures were a masterful marriage and I look forward to enjoying these choices again and exploring more specialty rolls. read more

Not too crowded for a Saturday afternoon, we were able to walk in and get seated right away. We ordered the sushi boat, which is a great deal for 2 people (about $50) it came with soup and salad for both of us, and enough sushi and sashimi to fill us up, so it was a very nice dinner that came out to about ~25 a person The sushi was excellent, the sashimi was ok, however I personally prefer sushi over sashimi anyways, not typically my favorite. Not world class sushi, but great local spot for a quick and satisfying sushi read more

Went there because of the high rating on yelp and the pictures of food looked good. Not sure how much sushi everyone else that's rated this restaurant has eaten, but quite frankly, the sushi was mediocre. Only stand out food was the garlic edamame.
