Surfside Taco Stand used to be one of my go-to spots when I lived in DC. I only make it there once in a blue moon now, but it still hits just like it always did. The food is flavorful, authentic, and the fact that they're open 24 hours makes it even better. My favorite item is the quesadilla Belize with grilled marinated steak--it's consistently excellent. The tacos are also really good, though I do wish there were an option to mix and match different tacos in one order. The homemade salsa is and worth adding to anything you order. I was coming into Washington DC late at night and I was searching for a place to eat as many shops close around 10pm in the city. But I came across this small shop online as a spot for quick late night eats. The shop is kind of a stand you order and they cook in the back. Very normal. I think the person was rushing to click through the payment machine near me. It was a little suspicious, almost as if they were trying to hide a charge on it. When I got my receipt printed, there was a 5 cent bag charge. That's not really a big deal but very odd to act that way. It's something I remember. But I received my order, as fast as they can make it with other orders on front of me. Very straightforward. They have sauce bottles near the line for the shop and little cups with lids if you want to take sauce with you. I think my order tasted fine. It was shrimp tacos but the shrimp was too big for the tortilla. I should be happy about the toppings being substantial but it made me think I can just eat the tacos on their own and the shrimp on the side. It was more enjoyable separating it and that makes it lose points as it doesn't come together properly. I was in the area for a Yelp Elite event and was craving a quesadilla so I had to pull up. Surfside has always done right, except this one time (the rice). It tasted a bit stale which is pretty unusual for them. I ordered the steak quesadilla, street corn, a side of yellow rice and guacamole. Aside from the ride, everything tasted great! The steak quesadilla was flavorful and had just the right amount of ingredients. I tried one of the sauces they had at the condiment station and am hooked. It was a pineapple hot sauce? Sooo good. Though the menu prices are a bit high, you definitely get a nice portion size for the main items (ie quesadillas). The vibe at this place was immaculate- super tropical and easygoing w/ fun decor and an impressive array of hot sauces. I got a breakfast burrito and was somewhat impressed- the eggs were flavorful and the hash brown is a delightful touch. I can recommend the Aruba shrimp salad. The service was prompt and the outdoor seating was generous. Street parking for lunch is ample. The heat lamps are helpful in the winter as my sport coat was not warm enough to sit outside. The wait staff delivered excellent service. What I wished could have been better? Indoors might be better for individuals looking to avoid insect bites. On windy days, inside might be better. Outdoors is better for a large group. There was a large Sysco tractor trailer that tried to turn on a narrow side street that was very distracting to look at. Overall, this is a good place to take a large group of people as there is a wide selection of food to accommodate most tastes. Good Mexican food is hard to find on the east coast. The menu felt like it was made by someone who had been to Mexico on vacation once and tried to recreate the food with their own taste influence. Not my first time here but definitely my first review. This place is a neighborhood staple and great late night pick-me-upper. Service was within time and I never really have to wait more than 20 minutes for my order to be completed and they always get it right. Food: yesterday I ordered the Bonaire burrito ($13) which contained grilled chicken, pico de gallo, lime crema, jack cheese, yellow rice. The burrito lacked flavor and wasn't my favorite item. I normally order their quesadillas-which are always tasty-but the burrito wasn't doing anything to satisfy my appetite. Dessert: I decided to order a tres leche cake ($8) and let me say this, it was SO delicious and addictive lol if I'm not careful, I might end up eating tons of this because it was absolutely tasty from start to finish. Now while this place is a late night must try, I would say that the menu selections are a bit pricey and oftentimes, it does not come with the guarantee that the meal would be tasty. But hey, given where it's located, I get that the pricing makes sense. I would give it three stars primarily because of the price (about $28 after tax and tip), which feels like an overpay for tacos and a drink. There were also a lot of bees in the area while I was eating, which might not be the fault of Surfside, but still made the eating experience less than ideal. Came here after a bar crawl in Dupont. It's relatively conveniently located, a few blocks away from Dupont night life. I got the Rio tacos and while the tacos were good, the meat tasty a little greasy. Also I think the portion size of just 2 tacos and rice is too small. I was full by the end of it from the rice, but I'm a relativey small woman, so I don't think that portion size would fill up the average person. They should let you add more tacos a la carte or just charge per taco like other places. They have only a few tables in front of their taco stand and the tables are outdoors and not covered. I got attacked by mosquitoes sitting there which was no fun. The service was also a little slow and we were seated waiting for a while before our order came out. read more

Once again, steak tacos stole the show. Got the Maui tacos this time too, didn't love them as much but still yummy. The fish was a bit flavorless but they gave very generous portions. I subbed the corn and beans for the mango salsa and the corn tortilla for flour- next time I would not sub anything as the flour tortilla got way too mushy and the mango overwhelmed the dish. They have security in front assuming it's open 24/7 they felt it was necessary. I visited Surfside for dinner with a large party of about 15 people. Nonetheless, we were all on one check and payment to make it easier for the employees to put our order together. Since they were relatively busy, the wait was pretty long, which we expected for such a large party. The taco stand only has a couple tables out front, but there is an elevated curb that customers often sit on to eat across the street. When our food was done, there were several wrong or missing order, including bottled drinks. The employees forgot how many bottles they gave us, and expected us to pay extra when we exchanged the wrongly provided soda for the juice that we ordered. As for the price, it is steep for tacos. I personally ordered the birria tacos, which only came with two, and a side of rice for about $15. We did enjoy the elote and horchata, but the price point overall was quite high. read more
