I've been here so many times and I can't believe I'm finally leaving a review. This is such a hidden gem and I kinda wanted to keep it to myself cause I don't want y'all to make so busy I can't get in when I want buuuuuut that would be selfish of me not to want to share their deliciousness! This is definitely the spot for some comfort hot tofu soup! I always order a hot vegetable tofu soup lunch or dinner combo depending on the time of day I come. But I'll switch up the side dish from either the Bul Go Gi or Spicy Chicken Gui cause I love them so much and I'm a creature of habit on some level. I ordered: Vegetable tofu soup Dinner combo with Bul Go Gi white (no spice, but thankfully I was able to get some on the side to add in this time but it's so much better when you have them add it in when you order). I had to order it with no spice since I was sharing it with my daughter this time (and yes I was still stuffed even with sharing it). Brown rice hot tea was great . I absolutely love this place. I almost always get the kimchi soft tofu soup. You can choose your spice level and this particular soup comes with an egg. I have no pictures of this soup despite all the times I've had it because I always dig in right away. The most recent time we went my partner ordered the black bean noodles which were pretty yummy. They also offer kimbap to go now. They have beef, tuna, and vegetable. I ordered the beef and it was a good snack for later in the day. I recommend getting their combos for a good mix of what they offer. Service is always prompt and friendly. The space is pretty standard and spacious enough that even when all the tables are full it doesn't feel crowded. The location is great too so you can walk along the Seabridge Marina after a delicious and filling meal. read more

No reservations list from what I know. We went on a Sunday night and there wasn't a wait but they seemed very busy as tables began to fill and people constantly popped in for pick up orders. A woman-owned Korean restaurant in Oxnard with reliable service and wonderful food. I've been to a ton of spots in K-Town up in LA. Soon tofu soup blows away ramen and pho, IMO. I also love a good kimchi pancake. The two spots up in LA I could draw comparisons to would be Dan Sung Sa and BCD. Both are great. However, Sura is a hidden gem that not only has the best of both places mentioned, but in a small town shopping center. No waits (yet), crazy parking or dealing with Wilshire. Order pick up from here. They make it very easy to order on their website. The food was ready within 20 minutes. When I arrived the restaurant looked nice and clean. The lady was helpful at the front and had our order ready. I forgot to check for utensils but once I got home I notice there wasn't any in the bag. I order the dinner combo Bul Go Gi with soft tofu soup,the soup was really tasty I added kimchi and mushrooms. the rest of the plate had good flavors as well the kimchi had a good crunch and tasted really good. We just had dinner here for Mother's Day and sadly it wasn't the best experience. The server was polite and helpful, but the food was hit or miss. My mom ordered the Joki gui and she didn't like it at all. There wasn't a lot of flavor and she didn't care for the dipping sauce that it came with. My husband got the bulgogi and for almost $40, the portion was ridiculously small. My husband left hungry. He also didn't care for the flavor. He prefers my mom's. I ordered the spicy squid and I loved it. There was a lot more vegetables than squid in it, but I did love the flavor. My daughter ordered the chicken udon and she liked it. My son loves his mandu soup, but he thought it needed more dduk and mandu. The flavor was spot on though. The banchan that the food comes with was ok, but my mom thought it was too sweet. I liked the potato dish and the kimchi was ok, but needed a little more flavor. The radish dish and spinach were a total miss. Delicious Korean BBQ. Loved their plenty of spacious seating and luxurious ambiance. Kalbi BBQ ribs, bulgogi beef BBQ, and above all, enjoyed their japchai rice noodles with plenty of veggies. Was looking for a solid Korean restaurant in the Oxnard area that wasn't Gen. I got the lunch set that included a meat and stew and of course ban chan. I ordered a kimchi stew and bulgogi meat -- both were solid and delicious. What disappointed me was the ban chan. I understand that we are in a pandemic and things are tight -- however, at the cost of paying for a full meal set, combined with my experience of eating at other reputable Korean restaurants all across SoCal and NorCal, I was disappointed at the quantity of the ban chan. I assume these things are made in bulk and are not necessarily the most expensive part of the meal, so I didn't understand why this was so stingy... AMAZING! AUTHENTIC! Tasty.... I don't care for some Korean bbq bc, call me lazy, but I don't want to pay to cook my own food, lol. Plus I leave smelling like smoke, at least in the collections one. Anyhow, my sweet husband found this place bc he loves good Korean food. So we went. Place is small, nothing huge, but right off the water so the view is kinda nice. The last couple times we went it was a bit slow. I really wish more people come and enjoy it and the business remains successful. We've been served by the same young lady. She's super sweet and friendly. Haven't had bad service. I think it's her family's business. Broths and food made from scratch, very authentic flavors. Love the kimchi and pickled veggies, surprisingly love the potatoes. I'm also not a fan of glass noodles or rice cakes, the texture isn't my fav. But in the two soups we got, wow amazing and I love them both. We got Yookkae Jang and the Man Du Soup. I should say we get the dinner combo and then added extra. I believe the Yookkae is the red broth one, it almost reminds me of Mexican pozole. We've also tried the ribs, kimchi pancake, shrimp tempura, spicy pork, fire!, black bean noodles (yum!!!!) and chicken udon (broth delicious). Honestly haven't eaten anything we didn't like yet. I want to try hot stone next, but can't get past the soups. I even tried one of their beers since usually do the kirin or whatever. I liked their Korean beer, light refreshing. The place has aged a bit since I was here before covid but I'd rather they put their money into quality food than decorations anyways. My wife loves Korean ribs--she got the dinner combo which included a huuuge portion of veggie tempura as well as the compulsory sides and radish soup. Sides were good (Kimchi too hot for us), radish soup not our thing but the veggie tempura was very good as were the ribs (although not much meat on the ribs). I got chef noodles with seafood stir-fry instead of soup. It was huge, nicely spiced (I got mild) with an ample volume and assortment of seafood. Jajangmyun noodles with tofu, and another side of tofu soup. It was nosey on their end so I didn't hear my total correctly, as I husband went to pick up, it was $69. Wow! I know food prices has increased, but man. My dinner portion was just as small as lunch, and my noodles had mostly veggies no noodles. And I also didn't get my side order of rice with my soup. I think Sura gets a bad wrap for not being the typical all you can eat Korean barbeque place. Sure it doesn't have that "fast food Korean style," but it does have authentic Korean flavors. Vibe was, its a good place to go and have dinner with some friends because the restaurant feels rather spacious, the ambient noise level is low enough for your party to have conversations, the banchan is GREAT, and their alcohol is decently priced. Food wise, I love it here because you don't have to worry about drowning in overabundance of grease (normally found in other Korean restaurants) and it still carries that authentic Korean taste. Extremely happy we found this place, it was like home cooking...the tofu jjigae was spicy enough, w/out being overwhelming, the broiled fish (pike) was very fresh, crisply fried, beef prime ribs were excellent, cucumber salad hd a very tasty dressing, the only disappointment was the jap chae...a little too sweet for my taste...overall we're coming back asap! I am on the mission to eat at every single establishment in and around the sea bridge market place or the marina in oxnard. So I decided to come here to Sura to try some of their korean food, since also I haven't had korean food yet while down in the ventura/oxnard area. When I came here for lunch there was only 1 other person here eating here. Service was fast, as it should be, being that it was oretty slow when I came in. Waitress was pretty cool. Attentive, answered my menu questions. And was really nice. Evidently their dinner special is a full size, where as their authentic korean dishes are half size. So I decided to go with their bul go gi dinner special. The one thing I know about korean food (especially korean bbq) is that you can never go wrong with beef bul go gi. And the food came out quite quickly. The smells that were coming out of the kitchen were just amazing. The entree came out with the customary korean side dishes, and it also came with a soup. The bul go gi came out still sizzling, quite loudly acutally, on a large cast iron type plate. And it was a pretty generous mound of beef bul go gi too!! It was quite tender. Tastes were amazing. Came with a small cup of purple rice, really good to taper the richness of the bul go gi. Total bill was north of $30 which I get. Location location location. My sister wanted to take me & my cousin out for our birthdays. Our birthdays are 3 days apart (her birthday is May 17th & mine is the 20th). We decided to go to Sura in Oxnard, CA on Tuesday, May 21st. Sura is located in the beautiful Seabridge area of Oxnard on Victoria Ave, which is in the newest harbor in our area & down the street from Ventura. Sura is next to Blenders in the Grass, in the same plaza as Chase bank, Vons, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Anaba & Chipotle. Behind all these establishments is the harbor & path that goes around the Seabridge neighborhood. If you've never done this, go take a walk around, it's beautiful! Anyways, on to the food... I am familiar with some Korean food. I had a Korean roommate for 3 years while going to UCSB. And because of living with her, I fell in love with Korean food & especially Kim Chi! My sister & cousin both ordered Bolgogi bowls & I ordered Bbimbop with tofu & instead of served in the (hot) stone I had it in a regular bowl. My sister also ordered Ja Jang Myun for us to share & Soju. The Soju came first with 3 shot glasses... It was strong! I couldn't even finish the shot glass worth of Soju! WOAW! We were served the hot radish soup & the sides first... fish cake, bean sprouts, cabbage kimchi, marinated potato & pickled diakon & carrot. The radish soup was yummy. The sides were good. I just wish that the kimchi was spicier, but it was very good. The potato was amazing & had such great flavor! Our main dishes came all at once & shortly after the Ja Jang Myun. My bowl was cold or actually, not a hot dish, which I was informed about the veggies not being cooked because Bbimbop is know for the freshness of veggies. It still was different & needs some getting used to. Next time I will order it in the hot stone bowl instead of the rice on the side. That was my mistake. I dumped my rice in the bowl & mixed everything in, got kimchi & put some of the other sides in & it was good. Very fresh tasting like it was indicated. I wanted more heat so I put some hot sauce in & it was much better. I ate almost all my food, but it was just so much food, so I took the left overs home. My sister, cousin & I dug into the Ja Jang Myun & it was sooooo good!!! We attacked that sh*t!!! Updating my review after five years of being a patron. Quality of food is still okay, but the once appealing taste of their dishes is now nothing more than ordinary. The place is now starting to show it's age. The once vibrant place that proudly shows it's Asian heritage is nothing more than just a normal eatery. Except for few decorations here and there, there was no effort to improve or at least maintain the decorations. The quality of service realy declined. The friendliness and hospitality that asians are known for are just a distant memory. I ordered three meals online for three people today, and when I picked it up, I asked if I can get extra cup of fish cake since three people will be sharing the single tiny cup. The lady rudely told me that one is all I can get and if I need one, I have to pay extra. Heck, if I and my friends ordered seperately, each one of us would have gotten one each easily but this lady is more focused on making small profit, not even thinking that the tip I gave them when I ordered is way more than enough to pay for 20 of those tiny dish. I was really tempted to say that and take back my tip, but for the sake of decency, I did not. it looks like the friendliness that they used to show to attract customers has been replaced by greed to make profit, no matter how small it is. Will I recommend this place? Probably not anymore. If a loyal patron for five years like me has seen this decline, then I will not take the risk of getting embarrassed by recommending them. One of my favorite places the go to when I'm in Oxnard. I start with their chicken wings are crunchy and tastes sweet and sour. I also get the kimchi and pork soup and bulgogi. Both come with black rice which actually looks purple. Because the flavors all compliment each other so well, I just mix all of it with the Banchan and eat it that way. I love their kimchi. It's not as tangy as other kimchi I've had. I believe kimchi gets more tangy the longer it is fermented (which I also love!) The dinner sized bulgogi isn't too sweet on the marinade. My only gripe with it is that the meat seems like it's close to being ground up. I wish the pieces were a little bigger. I comes out to about $75 for my husband and I every time we go. The restaurant is at a nice location with ample parking and bathrooms are clean. Definitely give it a try! read more
