Man, I cannot get enough of this place. Whatever kitchen god you have working in the back deserves a Michelin star. I go to this place almost every time I am in the area. I have ordered about half of the items on their menu and realized you just cannot go wrong. All of the dishes I've tried were cooked to perfection. At some places, you realize all of the sauces taste the same. Not this place. Every dish is cooked to perfection and the kicker is that any wok-fried dishes have a smokiness that upgraded my expectations of thai food. They will serve your food piping hot and have all the sauces/toppings on the table for you to add to taste. I'd definitely recommend this place to a friend. Decor is simple and vibe is laid-back. The Basil Fried Rice was just as impressive. Packed with flavor, the spice level was right on point, and every bite had that fresh, aromatic Thai taste. We arrived around 8pm (they were closing at 9) but they still welcomed our party of 7. Medium is spicy! This is legit Thai level heat. We ordered the papaya salad medium and while a few in our group braved the spice, most of us had teary eyes or runny noses. I would definitely recommend mild for the papaya salad even if you do like a *little* kick! You might feel a bit odd when first arriving at Thai Quality Restaurant--like something is a bit off somehow. But believe this: the food coming out of the kitchen served by a beautiful waitress who manages to smile while carrying food expertly to the table should be reason for rejoicing. The mixed vegetables with eggplant was tossed in a mild soy sauce dressing. Beef Panang creamy and rich as was the seafood Tom Kha soup. Wow! This was an awesome Thai Restaurant. Food was fresh, plentiful, flavorful, and tasty. There was a very large party, but service was still very good and the food came quickly. Exhausted after a day of field education at the nearby elementary school, I stumbled upon this gem of a spot in Oxnard. I have traveled a vast distance across ventura county from thousand oaks to simi valley to camarillo to oxnard and I THINK I have found a gem of thai place. As I walked in, I could see vast images of thai artwork strewn across the restaurant walls. This restaurant is huge compared to the surrounding stores in the lot and thus, I pondered, this must be a good place. I often use pineapple fried rice as a metric of how good the food is at a thai restaurant. It is a seemingly simple dish yet, there are a lot of things that can go wrong, including, not enough pineapple, no cashews, the rice is bland, et. cetera. However, this place hits all of the qualifications. The fried rice was fried perfectly, the pineapple pieces were crisp, the cashews adds to the texture of the rice, as well as the proteins. I had substituted chicken and shrimp for beef and pork. The meat was AMAZING. It is cooked to perfection that left a umami taste in your mouth. This would have been a 5 star review except for one thing, the service at night with waitress. The last 2 visit I had, it was during lunch time with a waiter who seemingly is the child of the owner of the place? Anyways he has TREMENDOUS service as he would take my order down within 10 seconds, understanding me, even when I place an order over the phone for dine in. The one star detraction is for the waitress staff at night who did not understand what I said on the telephone to the point of where I almost canceled because she kept thinking that subbing the protein for another protein as an "addition." We went back and forth over the phone more times than necessary until she asked her boss and explained the situation. I told her, you know what, maybe I would not place the order because of the upcharge. We eventually worked it out in the end where it was charged according to the previous 2 visits I've had. It makes it almost unnerving to place another order at night. It is such a great establishment where the food is the highlight with the pineapple fried rice priced JUST RIGHT as it stands. I have eaten here before both in person and delivery. The food is good, my only complaint here is that the wonton soup I ordered is pretty small for 9.99 in my opinion. I feel soups like this are usually served in a large bowl at the restaurant. There was only one size option so I assumed it would be a nice serving. The egg rolls are three for 8.99 I didn't know that either. Maybe it would be good to specify that on the menu. In the future I'll probably call to find out. Upon coming back from the restaurant, we actually received a phone call from the chef because there was a mix up in Pad Thai orders. The chef promised that the next time, the order of Pad Thai would be on the house. Let me start by saying I did something I wouldn't recommend..I ordered food at a new restaurant within less than 45 minutes before they closed. This I believe was MY mistake. My wife and I were staying in Oxnard overnight and wanted something besides fast food for dinner. Avoiding the usual suspects we thought maybe we should try Chinese food or Thai food. Thai Quality was the only restaurant with 5 stars to pop up on my Yelp search so we thought, 'let's give them a try!' Unfortunately we were a bit disappointed. We ordered several dishes so that we could get a feel for the overall quality of their food offerings. My wife ordered Thai barbecue chicken. I ordered pad Thai and we also had a combo appetizer as well as an order of mango sticky rice for dessert. I really wanted to give them the benefit of doubt. I have a tendency to be more open minded about the quality of food. My wife on the other hand is much more black and white about her food tastes. I thought maybe it's just me but none of my entrees tasted very good. My wife tasted the pad Thai and she hated it. The pad Thai noodles were stuck together. The beef pork chicken and shrimp that I paid extra for were almost nonexistent. I tried my wife's "Bbq chicken" but it was tasteless and dry (after a couple of bites she refused to eat anymore). It was served with the same basic sweet and sour condiment they served with the appetizer combo. As far as the appetizer combo platter went, neither of us cared for it very much either. The items in the combo appetizer included fried shrimp, fried egg rolls, fried wontons and some assorted fried vegetables (sweet potato, onions, and broccoli). Everything tasted as if it was cooked in old oil. This was unfortunate to say the least. There one dipping sauce included in the order. It was advertised as a sweet and sour sauce that was neither unique nor flavorful. I could have purchased something equal to it if not better from a local grocery store. The one bright spot was the oddly colored mango sticky rice dessert. It kind of surprised us at first because we've had mango and sticky rice many times before but it never looked like this. It was basically a whole mango that had been peeled and sliced and a scoop of what looked like black and brown long grain rice pilaf accompanied by a small container of white sauce. Regardless of how it looked, it tasted delicious and it's the only item we ordered that we finished before leaving the table. Overall, the meal was overpriced for the quality of food I received. It was my least favorite Thai meal in recent memory. It may have been partially my fault, I ordered late and the kitchen was probably already in the process of closing when my order came though. On tge positive side, the mango sticky rice was unique and delicious. Also the server that took my order was kind and helpful. All these factors considered, I am giving Quality Thai a generous 3 stars. read more
