Delicious Korean bbq! The service is always good when we come. Even on a busy night like Father's Day, the service was great! Reservations are easy to make, which I recommend doing before coming since it's usually quite busy. The ambiance is always lively and energetic. Food and service were great! Great ordering system and proper portion size. At first I thought it looked small, but it was an ideal way to eat and still able to order more things to try. I love being able to grab my own banchan and sauces. Our server, "Kai", was very attentive and helpful to my family and I. He constantly picked up our plates and trash and always checked on our table. :) The butcher cuts and kitchen food selections were quite fresh and well kept! Most of the time, the shrimps at most restaurants are spoiled without them knowing, but these shrimps were great! I've come here as a date night with my husband, family dinner, and even with my newborn. This place has never let me down. I love that it's AYCE and the service is top notch. It looks small and cramped from the outside, but I had enough room in the inside for our party of 10 and my stroller! I was also able to rock my baby to sleep while standing and eating. And yes, he did fall asleep in the restaurant and stayed mostly asleep. Something that's very interesting is the corn and Mac and cheese side - you don't see that anywhere else. Of course, they do have the classic banchans, but those really influence my decision when I think of where I wanna go to eat. It's been years since I've visited...in a previous era of my life when I used to come here after a nightclub drunken fest. My friends used to like this place because we wouldn't leave smelling like heavy BBQ unlike other "cook your own meat places." I came with friends after the Maoli concert to get our grind on and after many years I was pleasantly surprised to see not much has changed (in a good way). The menu seemed a bit more limited than what I remembered but it was still quality (especially the meats). I enjoyed the variety of sides and starches. The hot plate has Mac and cheese and corn and cheese in the side compartments which melts when the plate fires up. Everything was flavorful and service was good except my request for sesame seed oil and gotchujang was never brought to the table. The only downside is that service can be slow and often leads to us not being able to eat as much since we have to wait between rounds. I treated my brother here for his bday. This place is great! Lively and I love how they flick the lights on and off to loud music for your bday. We ordered their beef brisket and pork belly. I love how easy it is to make a reservation for Sura with Opentable, most KBBQ on island don't let you and its a wait. I took a friend from outta town here and they loved it. Its a good option to choose in between price and quality. I wish they had tongue but I'll settle for kalbi and brisket. Did not get crispy in the bowl...should have put it where the mac and corn was to crisp it up...but was so oily in those slots. Fried garlic kicked it up a notch. The menu is very limited if you only come here for beef, about four choices (brisket, bulgogi, kalbi, steak) but those meats are good, for the most part. Brisket, kalbi, and bulgogi are amazing. Steak was underwhelming. Hard to chew. $31.99 per person. $34.99 for solo dining. 1.5 hour time limit. All of their drinks are non-refillable, except for water. A can of soda is $3. Everything else is $7+. I always love their lychee flavor stuff, including the lychee iced tea and the lychee capri soju. I do like that soups and bibimbap are included in the AYCE price, because in other AYCE KBBQ spots in the area, those items are additional charge. The mac & cheese w corn; and corn & cheese sides on the grill are unique to this AYCE BBQ spot too. SERVICE -- What I like best about this place is their late-night hours, which is open until 2am. Though, their wait time is super long, which is around 30 minutes every time. Reserve your seat ahead of time online to avoid the hassle. Service is decent. Quick to serve meat orders. Recently, they introduced a system in which sides and sauces are now self-serve. I found it a bit chaotic for my liking because it could get crowded really easily, and that you may have to make multiple trips to be able to hold all of your sides and sauces, if you are taking some for the rest of your table. AMBIANCE -- The ambiance is a bit dark, which can be difficult to cook and look around if you don't have perfect vision. Less smokey than other places. There are scribbles of permanent markers everywhere throughout the whole restaurant, which is part of their aesthetic. The ordering system changed since my last few times here. It's via iPad now and my party was limited to 3 portions of meat per round and can only order once every 15 minutes. Maybe not so bad if the service was snappy but we were waiting up to 8 minutes after ordering. Same long waits for sides like rice and kitchen food. Side bar had no kimchi and no staff went to refill it after we commented. Waters were empty for a while and they relied on us to order through the iPad system for a refill. With how slow everything was moving, my party ordered from the kitchen so we could eat and pay before our 90 minutes were up. The kitchen food took a while to come out and was pretty lackluster. I'm not blaming the kitchen since it seems like the place needs more staff but I was disappointed in the quality. Overall it just felt like my party was being rushed and there was a lack of service and hospitality. If this locked timer ordering system is just to make money then i'd rather pay more so I can actually order and eat comfortably. They're rude, they rush, they really don't care at all about anyone being there. Last time I went, I was there after my party and when I asked the host where they were he told me I could walk around to find them. This restaurant has two sides. I got a soju slushy and it came back as just a regular drink the guy who brought it said they ran out. Ran out of what?? My friends ordered soup and they brought them no spoons, the food was almost cold by the time they finally came back with a spoon. They keep coming by asking about ordering more meat which is good that they don't disappear but this might be the worst service I've seen on this island. The restaurant looks really cool, there's a bunch of sharpie writings all over where people have marked it up over the years. I went to Sura on a weekend right as they opened and although it was starting to get busy we were able to snag a table. Service overall was good except for an interaction i had with a server. I asked her if she could bring over more napkins and she looked right at me and walked away and completely ignored me. But oh well. The food was delicious. I loved the kimchi soup and the spicy pork belly. I did not like that the grease from the macaroni and cheese, corn and cheese, and the egg kept popping my arms. That was my biggest turn off for the restaurant. The place itself has an interesting graffiti decor vibe going on. I thought it was unique and it located in town where you can people watch. Service is excellent and the atmosphere very nice! If, however, all you want is all you can eat bbq meat then this is the place. However don't expect the full experience of Korean cuisine. For starters only four side dishes to complement the meal and the kimchi was a day old and thus super spicy. There should be at least a dozen side dishes plus glass noodles(cheop japchae). The rice was either old or not fully cooked and semi-hard. The leaf lettuce was semi-wilted. The meat selection was adequate but should include teriyaki marinated as well. The beef was not sliced and semi-grounded and of average quality. The new tablet ordering system needs to have the bugs worked out as the screen would go faded. All in all this place would not compete against the establishments in LA. Go to Korea Garden. read more

We went to Sura for my birthday dinner. I've always seen this place when I was younger and there was always a line out the door. There's not much parking around Sura but when called when we arrived there and they told us to park right in front. Not gonna lie, I was a little shocked when I walked into Sura. There was graffiti and writing all over the walls and I guess I just didn't expect that. They sat us quickly and sat us at a pretty spacious table. There were seven of us and they sat us at a table for ten. With the seven of us, they gave us two grills. The grill already had something in it on the edges. I was unsure what it was but it was cooking in there. I scooped out a bit and it was macaroni and cheese. I thought that was kind of interesting. They also had corn in there. Sura is all you can eat but they have strict rules. It says on their menu that if you don't eat all, you will be charged $100 a person. We were a little confused with the ordering part but after many questions we understood. Well, most of us anyways.. I had to redo my parent's order. So on their menu there are two categories: meat and specialties. You choose three meats from the meat category and you can also choose three specialties. Specialties include things like bibimbap, salad, French fries, etc. For our first order we got the kalbi, pork, and bulgogi. For the specialties, we offered two shrimp bibimbap and Kim chee. I'm not much of a meat person but my favorite by far was the bulgogi meat. It was flavorful and we kept ordering it. I didn't really care much for the bibimbap. I guess I was expecting it to be more full of vegetables and instead it just tasted like shrimp rice. Later I also ordered a salad because I felt like they didn't have enough vegetables. But again, that's me. I'm not much of a meat person and I'm at a Korean bbq place. Overall I loved the bulgogi but wasn't jazzed about the decor or the bibimbap. We appreciate water carafe and mini metal cups that keeps water colder for a longer length of time. No ice served. We didn't need. Please inquire with workers. Food: Stay away from pork belly. Majority of the slices contains 3/4 fat and 1/4 pork. Garlic shrimp automatically comes with rice. Highly recommend kalbi which is tender to chew after cooking on the grill. Fried chicken crispy on outside and moist on the inside. Tasted yummy plain and with dipping sauce. Seaweed soup was tasty. Complimentary hot tea served upon request. The valet gave us a very good first impression, but as soon as we sat down inside, it went downhill. The server was nice, although they don't cook for you. The most they'll do is change your grill grate, after it's burnt of course. However, our server did check up on us from time to time. The main complaint was the meat quality and the flavor. It seems that they don't marinate it. And it's quite chewy. The Mac & cheese had pasta water taste. The seaweed soup tasted like water & seaweed. The only thing that was good was the egg. The quality of the food has definitely declined. I haven't been back since the beginning of summer, and everything has changed. I do like the self-service bar, but they used to be much faster with it. Since then, they're still slow, and there's no meat given to us. The grills are on so low that it takes forever to cook anything. Every time I turn up the grill, they turn it back down to the lowest setting. It took about 10 minutes just to cook a little bit of brisket, and the meat came out even slower. The Kalbi was so fatty and chewy that it wasn't very pleasant to eat. It was pretty packed for a Sunday night, but at the end of the day, I feel like it's gone downhill, and I'm kind of sad. We got there at 9:55pm. Reservation was at 10pm. They didn't sit us until 10:17pm. They also seated the walk-ins before us (3 parties) after 10pm. We had to remind the people in the front 2 times that we had a reservation. I guess walk-ins get higher priority over reservations. First order took 30 minutes to come out. We only were able to get 2 orders within our 90 minute allotted time. When I came before, we got about 4 orders in. Brisket was very fatty, regular pork belly was ok, and other meats (bulgogi, beef, and spicy thin poke belly) we tried were not good. They also ran out of the thin sliced pork belly. The fatty brisket and regular pork belly was the best thing we got. Food quality used to be good, but we noticed a decline in quality this night. The waiter was also not attentive with our table and we had to flag him down to fill up our waters twice. As soon as 11:17pm hit, the waiter turned off our grill despite us being seated late and only getting 2 orders in. Not worth the $80 TOTAL for 2 people (20% tip included).
