How did this place get its current 3 star rating? This is a PET MOTEL. Scan other review photos for large dogs such as German Shepherds. There doesn't seem to be a size limit for allowed pets, and there was a large dog in the room next door that barked loudly for hours. It seems like several guests also sneak their pets into the motel too as there was a warning sign at the front desk. Maybe it was because of all the pets, there was staff fumigating the hallways during our stay. The motel also doesn't feel safe since there were homeless people loitering outside the window in the parking lot during the day. We had to keep the shades closed. Guests avoided parking in that area and clustered their cars closer to the front door. There is also highway noise. Though the rooms seem to have been renovated within the last few years, they have several problems. They do not have secondary locks (the chained latch was broken). Most guests can't figure out the bathroom's look too since it's not obvious that you need to push in and turn the knob. It's a cheap lock that leads to twisted knobs from guests struggling to use it. The bathroom knob must have only cost a few dollars. The room smells dank (or maybe that was from the hallway fumigation). The window has a broken screen but you probably won't want to open it because of the homeless people loitering directly outside. There is an ice maker near the front desk but there are no ice buckets. When I asked the front desk for one, the staff member slowly unrolled and tore off a flimsy plastic bag as if it were very valuable. I'm not sure that there is enough cleaning staff since my room was not cleaned at all during my multiple day stay. There also aren't any Do Not Disturb signs if you didn't want staff into your room during the day. As for the free breakfast that incentivizes people to give it a try? The popular waffle maker has a long line since there's only one and the batter dispenser is very slow (probably because it was filled much to begin with). As a cost saving measure, the waffle maker is only available twice a week on Friday and Saturday. The other breakfast items include juice, whole milk, coffee, toast, 2 cereal choices, and factory made muffins. The small room for breakfast tends to get packed during college tour season. The motel is not able to hold your bags if you arrive too early to check-in or want to do some more touring after checking out. We interacted with 2 staff members during our stay. The overnight staff member was nice but the other one (the owner?) was on the surly side. If after all this you decide to be a patron, be sure to get a printout receipt when checking out since they don't give you one by default. It's the only way to make sure you are really checked out since I didn't see the staff member at the front desk type any buttons on his computer after handing him my room's keycards. TIPS: Bring dog repellent, a tick spray, a portable door wedge alarm, and Tupperware as an ice bucket. read more

I stayed here multiple times while my house was being remodeled. The staff was generally nice and accommodating, though one of them paused from her smoking break outside long enough to give me crap about giving the guy INSIDE the dumpster some cans I had in my car. As if my giving him cans is why he's mining their dumpster. Hey, try locking it or telling the guy to get out! As others have noted, no smoking seems to be a suggestion, not a rule. 2nd floor had bad wifi coverage, but in a subsequent stay they seemed to have resolved that issue. Breakfast: Not good if you want protein or gluten free items. Neither of those things. Usual waffles and cheerios sort of things. ADA: I can't speak for the quality of the accessible rooms (assuming they have some), but no elevator to the second floor and no automatic door operators on the entrance doors. Something that those of us lugging suitcases and tools would also appreciate. One room I stayed in the air conditioner stopped cooling. I took the filters out and they were utterly FILTHY. Washed them in the tub, let the frozen compressor thaw out, and all was good. Not sure why I'm having to do their maintenance, but oh well I live to serve. Price is right and location is good. Right next to the Wegman's so anything you could want is available in that amazing grocery store. read more

The rooms were nice and quiet. The location is pretty good. It's ght next to a market which basically has everything inside. The hotel's breakfast was really good. At least it was enough for me. I don't eat much for breakfast. But to sum up; waffles, bagel (2 varieties), butter, bread (with toaster), cereal, milk, coffee, tea, juice and water. Also you have acces to the drinks 24/7 and that is something great. Also in the morning there was a bird which made the most beautiful sounds i ever heard from a bird. And there is a rabbit jumping around. The poeple in the front desk were super nice and understanding. The wi-fi was fast and strong. read more

The clientele brings this motel rating down. It pains me to see people live in a motel. However, the cigarettes and smell was profoundly disagreeing. The rooms were clean and comfortable to our liking. The manager smoking a cigarette outside during checkout, knowing she shouldn't be smoking, is unacceptable. The fight at 11:30 PM that lasted and hour should have been stopped by staff. I understand it was a sexual tiff but common go back to your wife and stop!! read more

This was my second time staying here. It's a solid place for the price: comfortable, CLEAN, and friendly. The location is excellent. The staff are so friendly they won't mention if you have chocolate ice cream dripping around your mouth. We had a good laugh. read more

The woman at the front desk greeted us by saying don't make me do any work. She then put an infant to sleep in the office behind the front desk before she was able to help us. She then checked us into the wrong room type while claiming the single double bed we were put in was a queen. We booked two rooms with two beds each. I went down to explain and ask if there was any way to put us in the correct room type, she said no. We arrived at 330 with 5 cars in the parking lot, so I do not understand how this was possible. She then called up to the room and asked us to leave in 10 minutes or she was going to charge us the full rate as a COVID cleaning fee (I am surprised it takes $120 to disinfect a 140 sq ft hotel room). When we got down to the desk she had a security guard there. As concerned as she apparently is with COVID she was face mask on as a chin strap. The whole experience was embarrassing and unfortunately caused a scene. Reading these other reviews this appears to be a common pattern. read more

I have paid 3x this price for a less comfortable room; I found staff to be friendly and helpful and the buffet breakfast was excellent actually. Plenty of parking too. I was a little nervous about booking it due to low price and fact that rooms were still available 8pm night of, but this is what you call a big positive surprise. I did hear one guest say that housekeeping forgot to put sheets on his bed/s but again, and bathroom is small with "just a shower and a sink" so there's the reason I can't give it 5 stars. Very impressive and modern lobby and rooms. ****No elevator***** (we did get to pick the second floor though) Beds were amazingly comfortable and the sheets were insanely soft!!! Nice to have hardwood floors. Good size refrigerator and microwave! Breakfast had a great variety of selection and was kept well stocked. Awesome location close to Buttonwood and Robert Treman parks. And who can not LOVE Wegmans right next door! Close to many shopping areas. Staff was hard to find at front desk in morning. Terrible service when it comes to unauthorized charge. We got charge for our stay that was already paid for by Expedia on 10/16/19. No one seems to want to deal with our inquiry and they keep saying we have to call back to talk to the manager every time we called. Our stay was great. I was a little nervous about staying at a Super 8 since family and friends have told me some not so great stories, however, our stay was wonderful. Check in was fast and easy and we were able to get a late check out upon request! The room was larger than I expected and had a fridge/microwave which was such a great bonus. Wegmans and other restaurants are within walking distance. Everything was VERY clean which is one of my biggest pet peeves when staying in a hotel. The queen bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was your typical continental breakfast. Overall, I was very impressed with the Ithaca Super 8. I would DEFINITELY recommend this hotel for anyone who would like a cheap and clean place to stay! read more

I used to stay at an econolodge on Triphammer Rd, but this Super 8 is right in the middle of town, close to a few dozen restaurants, Ithaca bakery, and Ithaca College and Cornell university. The staff was great, nice clean rooms, comfortable beds, a fridge and microwave in every room. Plenty of parking, but beware, because of the close proximity of both colleges a lot of visiting students stay there. When I was there West Point's rowing club was there for a tourney against Cornell. They weren't at all noisy, they were very well behaved. But maybe I was lucky. This was a very nice accident, since my normal hotel was booked solid, and since Super 8 is run by the Weston group, I got points for my stay. I'll be back! read more

I travel to Ithaca occasionally on business, although I pay out of my own pocket for a hotel. For me this Super 8 is a good combination of cleanliness, reasonable rates and convenient location. It is my favorite spot in Ithaca. However, being the lazy sot that I am, none of those things would normally cause me to write a review. Until.... On my last visit I left my iPad in the room. The hotel cleaning staff found it, turned it in, and Julie Swigart tracked me down. She offered to mail it to me. Wow! I didn't ask, but my guess is that she probably took care of this on her way home from work. That's what I call going above and beyond the call of duty! Thank you Julie!! read more

I stay at the Super 8 whenever I'm picking up or dropping off my kid at college. It may not have a pool or an exercise room, but I wouldn't stay anywhere else. For one thing, it's next to Wegman's. But more important, they have a great front-desk manager, Ryan. If she even suspects you might need something, she makes sure you have it. She fixes broken things, shovels snow off your car if you can't, and even rescued a guest who was having a seizure! I wish Ryan were running this country.... read more

We had a reservation for two rooms with two double beds. Upon arrival, the front desk clerk informed us that she didn't want to have to do too much work that day and followed up by saying that she did NOT have the rooms we reserved and rather had a room with two doubles and 1 queen. She grudgingly admitted she could send up a roll away but that "it would be a while". When we expressed frustration with the situation, she told us we had 10 minutes to make up our mind until she charged us for the rooms. As we exited the hotel to find rooms at an establishment that actually met our needs, we had to remind her to wear her face mask appropriately and she retorted with a snarky "Peace out, cub scouts! Fabulous." I would also note that their "queen" size beds are not, in fact, queens. Will not return. read more

Not expensive. Clean enough. Right next to Wegmans for good food choices (be sure to check out their hot bar, famous subs and pizza. Fridge and microwave in the room. Not a bad hotel considering. However. We were smack dab in the middle of the absolute loudest, rudest high school or college soccer team's bank of rooms, and the noise was ridiculous. Constant running up and down the halls, hollering, loud music, banging on each other's doors, water gun fights. It was non-stop until midnight. And there wasn't even a phone to call the front desk. People were opening their doors shushing these charming individuals and they just laughed and continued. Seems like SOMEONE from the hotel could have intervened. read more

BAD!!! For the price it was still less than expected but still. The first room we had the hairdryer sparked and began to smoke. The front desk wasn't able to help and eventually gave us another room for "no charge". The bathroom was kinda stinky and the towels were thin. The Only reason I give it 2 stars is because the bed was surprisingly comfy and they had free breakfast. Did not feel super clean since we saw cobwebs above the lamps and mold around the extension cords. I didn't take photos because my phone deserves better pics of dirt in the cloud. At first sight, nothing appears to be wrong. We checked in on a Saturday around 2pm, dropped our bags in the room and headed out. The room was a bit musty and smelled of old cigarette smoke but we we were willing to let that go. At the end of the day, you get what you pay for and we were staying at a super 8 so the expectations weren't too high. When we returned to the room around 8:30pm, and started to get ready for bed. We wanted to relax and watch a movie. Th TV wasn't working, but that's not a big deal. When we lifted the covers, the sheets were dirty and when we picked up the sheets, the mattress had filthy stains all over it. This hotel was being used as a homeless shelter for several months during Covid. And the icing on the cake was there was construction going on directly outside our window. The crew was using a jack hammer and the noise levels were intolerable. When we came to the front desk to request a room change, the clerk informed us that this has been going on for weeks and the crew would be working well into the night, 11pm would be the earliest that they would stop. We requested a refund, but were told no such thing would happen. We checked out and left that same night. read more

The only good things about this hotel is that Wegmans is across the street, there is ample parking and the mattresses are comfortable. Otherwise it's awful. I checked in and was offered the choice between ground floor and second floor. I chose second floor only to find out that there is no elevator, meanwhile the person behind the desk told us the location of the elevator which was only another staircase. One would think it would be mentioned that luggage has to be carried up the stairs when asking two women whether or not they want ground floor. The carpets in the hallways were discolored which is obviously not appealing. There was an annoying tick tick tick sound from the electric that the AC could not drown out because it couldn't be set to stay on continuously (which anyone who is a light sleeper knows how it feels to wake up due to noise change-not fun). The worst part was the pillows though. I am so glad to have brought my own. There were three tiny, lumpy pillows per bed that are maybe large enough for a young child to fit its head on comfortably-or would be if they weren't filled with lumps. read more

If stayed at a number of hotels in different price ranges, while this hotel wasn't terrible, it was ideal either. The nice things I have to say are that the bed was clean(when we got there),the air conditioning worked well, and the shower did too. Not only did the hotel management and the homekeeping staff state that they couldn't move a very small stuffed animal to clean our bed, but management actually continued to boast that rhetoric when we checked out. Mind you, out of all the hotels I've stayed in, they always take your stuff off the bed and move it to the side. This must be some new policy that only super8 functions under. The toilet clogged within one use, not only did the homekeeping staff ignore our note on top of the toilet stating the same, but I had to plunge a toilet on my vacation because they couldn't be bothered to do their jobs? Not sure what the reason is. The front desk also had no idea there were people legitimately screaming at 1:30 am. Overall just unaware and unapologetic. Not recommended read more

Not good for groups! We choose the Super 8 for our trip with 25 high school students, mostly because the other hotels in Ithaca were full. Even though we went through all the appropriate steps to procure a room block (including calling on the way to make sure we were all set), when we arrived, we were told our block of rooms was cancelled months earlier. We managed to find rooms at the last minute (while the students waited on the bus) at the Comfort Inn, and spent the next day on the phone with the manager of the Super 8, who tried to claim that it was our fault. By the end of the conversation, she admitted she needed to take a look at her contract, the steps her employees take to create room blocks, and the communication her employees have with group leaders. I would not recommend this hotel. read more

For a Super 8 motel (not the best reputation) this place was very clean and tidy, and the breakfast room was ample and clean as well. Beds were pretty comfortable, however the pillows really sucked (they were like little square cushions filled with cotton balls). The bathroom was large and clean as well. Both the room and the price were great, and even though it is a little out of the way if you are visiting downtown Ithaca or Cornell University (our purpose there) it was not a bad drive to restaurants and shops or what not. Amenities that include Wi-Fi and free breakfast in the morning (waffles, toast, cereal, oatmeal, coffee and OJ) were nice and convenient. Definitely a great place to stay if you're on a budget. read more

I've stayed there a couple of times. Clean, comfortable, and conveniently located to just about everything (including the aforementioned Wegman's). It's reasonably priced, and while it may not have all the bells and whistles of a 5 start hotel, they make up for it in customer service. Last time I was there, I had left behind a little cooler with some souvenir items I meant to bring home to the family. I called the motel when I had realized it, and they SHIPPED the cooler to me. Checked in late on a Friday night. Around 6:45 in the morning heard gurgling sounds from the bathroom. I went to check it out and found sewage coming up through the shower and toilet that wouldn't flush. Soon it became apparent that this is happening through the entire hotel, not just our room. Plumber was called, but no shower, no bathroom and no breakfast due to breakfast area being flooded. We left for the day and when we returned at night we found that the sewage backup has been cleared but no one cleaned the bathroom or made the room afterward. So we ended up CLEANING THE SHOWER TUB OURSELVES in order to be ready for dinner in time. When we confronted the staff bout it, the guy behind the desk offered to send a cleaning crew, which we declined because it was too late. And then for some reason the lady behind him got an attitude and started telling us it's our fault that the room wasn't cleaned because *she* thought we already checked out. Why she thought that when all our stuff was still in the room that we prepaid for, she couldn't say. We went on to find out that TV and the iron did not work. The worst part of all this is that they refused to make ANY of this right, told us to take up our complaints with Hotels.com. Hotels.com couldn't care less, offered us some symbolic discount which I turned down. Thank God for Visa card - cancelled the payment on this charge for the entire stay. read more
