What an experience with Ron and his fantastic team at Suntrust Remodeling. We have a 106 year old cabin in Silverado and we were in desperate need of a roof before this up coming El Niño winter. Over the course for 100 years this poor house has had a lot of DIY and "Canyon" repairs as we call them. What we didn't know is we had 5 roofs stacked and a completely rotted patio (not shocking, it was looking bad). **Scheduled an exterior painting estimate with SunTrust. The rep finished the walk‑through on Friday and set a firm appointment for Monday at 5 PM, insisting the quote had to be given in person even though I asked for it to be emailed. Monday morning they called to "reconfirm," but I was at work. They never called again at the actual appointment time. When I called at 5:20 PM, I was told the appointment was canceled because I didn't reconfirm. The rep had already gone to another job, and the office said they would email the quote instead. It's been 24 hours and nothing was sent. Other companies have sent reps that were able to provide an immediate quote or at least send it in a short amount of time. Short version: Don't waste your time like they wasted mine! It seems like they just want to sell their encapsulating paint. I'll also follow suite with many others and note the semi deceptive practices soliciting work. Long version: Francisco came to our door saying he was "working on a project around the corner", asking if he could give a bid to replace our fascia boards or do any other work. I typically run from door knocking contractors as if you have to come knock on a door to find work you probably aren't good enough to have clients seeking you out instead. But, I am looking to get my fascias replaced so I figured I'll give them a shot. I asked what licenses they hold, how many crews the company runs, etc. RED FLAG #1 - He could answer none of it. I should've known better, but I agreed and set up a meeting with his "manager" the next day to have them come have a look and give us a quote. The office called me to confirm time. Again I ask what contractors license(s) they hold and how many crews but I get a "you can look it up online, I just schedule appointments". I'm in the industry and can easily answer these questions for my company. How do people not know this if they are soliciting new clients. RED FLAG #2 - since Francisco had told me he was on the crew at the other house and his boss had sent him out to go see if anyone else needed work (yeah, I know this doesn't happen in real life) I called him back after setting out appointment and asked for the address of the job he had been on so I could walk by and go look. Got a reply saying he'd text me it but never got it. I texted him later to remind him but zero reply. I'm sure Francisco was just a guy hired to solicit new jobs. Not sure why he told me he was on a job around the corner. The next day (Friday), a little after the scheduled appointment time, Abel and Jaime show up to come take a look at what work we need. They were nice enough but obviously trying to see more than fascias. Mainly their paint product or procedure it seemed. I did show them multiple more areas of work needed to make the job larger and worthwhile (a window to be replaced, a rear shade structure to build, siding and window repair in another area). After looking around they said they had what they needed and would meet again sit and review the bid, materials and pricing. They semi reluctantly agreed to give me estimates on 3 different materials for fascia boards as I had been researching and had materials I wanted to look at (Azek and WindsorOne + standard Cedar). Then they were going to give an estimate for siding repair and also an option for complete siding replacement with Hardy siding. Plus the shade/overhead structure, the window replacement and a couple areas of stucco repair since we would be doing stucco repair with the window replacement. We also noted we would need the house painted after all this so they could quote this if they wanted as well. Appointment was scheduled for 1:30 Tuesday (today). At 1:24 today I get a text from Abel saying "Hi Steve! This is Abel from Suntrust. Unfortunately we no longer can obtain the Atek (Azek) or Windsor materials from our manufacture. I think it may be best to use another contractor." I replied asking if he was still coming to quote any of the rest of the work he agreed to (or maybe even the simple wood fascias?) but zero reply. Called him a bit after 1:30 to see if they were still coming since both and my wife had stayed home to make the meeting, but no reply. Glad he waited until literally the last minute to tell us. You know darn well we're finding someone else to do the work. read more

I had a salesman come out and give me a quote on artificial turf. His price was about $2000 higher than 2 other legitimate quotes. I received a call from someone at his office the next day saying that they offer 3 people a month a deal on requoting. I set up an appointment for the next day. A senior project manager showed up gave some line that they had turf left over from another job and that he could give me a much better price. Both salesman told me that i would receive a $1,000 rebate from the water company. NOT TRUE. This sounds like company's that said we have left over toner for your copy machine. Update to my previous positive review: SunTrust Remodeling did a fantastic job on my roof replacement. It was high-quality work, clean install, and I was thrilled at the time. That's why this current experience is so disappointing. I've been dealing with a roof leak for almost a month now. I've called their office repeatedly, emailed photos and descriptions of the problem, and politely followed up asking for an update. Every response is 'We'll get back to you'--and then nothing. No call, no email, no technician showing up. It's radio silence after the initial promises. This is especially concerning since it's their roof work that's leaking, and one would expect prompt service on something like this (especially under any warranty). The lack of follow-through has turned a great experience into a frustrating one. This review too is solely based on their sales pitch. Guy knocked on my door. Said they were doing work down the street. I agreed to a quote in my old sun cracked siding. Afterwards I went down street. There was no work going on down there. When guy came over next day for quote he spent an hour explaining how great their company was and this special paint they have. After I finally got quote and I was hesitant he starts saying my boss won't like this but I'll take $1000 off if you sign the contract now. I wanted all my siding removed and replaced but he said they would patch and paint it. I suspect if I hired them they would not have removed the damaged shingles. I just did not feel comfortable. And when you look at their best reviews people call out their specialty paint. Like would a real reviewer mention that? Judge for yourself. read more

We didn't end up going with SunTrust so this review is just based on their sales pitch. I was not comfortable with their sales pitch at all. It was like talking to a bad car salesman. They spent hours pitching us and told us a bunch of half truths and outright lies, like acrylic paint is illegal to sell in California (it's offered and sold by all the big paint brands) and that their paint would make our house 40 degrees cooler (the claim from the paint supplier is that it reduces paint surface temperatures by 40 degrees not indoor temps). To top it off, we referred them to our neighbor for a quote and they told our neighbor we committed to SunTrust even though we hadn't. The quote was super high and only makes financial sense if you believe their claims that it will last 50 years and that they'll warranty it for that long. We checked out their recent work at another house in our neighborhood and it didn't even look that good. The paint was so thick that it looked like they wrapped their house in vinyl. It was bubbling in some spots so it didn't look like the wood would be able to breathe. Bad experience. Would not recommend. read more

We had just barely started shopping around, then met Adam at SunTrust. He came to our home after our working hours, which was very helpful. He definitely saw something we didn't; potential. Read Before Hiring SunTrust (Very Very Bad Experience) 1. Document everything you need, like wood repair or stucco; they will charge you up to a 1/3 markup, or more than your quote, after they power wash your house. 2. You never get consistent, honest work from the crew. You know you are in trouble when they ask you for cleaning rags and bottled water. I later read someone else's review on different review where they requested McDonald's and soda for lunch, and showed their attitude. 3. They don't encourage painting a small color sample on your house before getting approval to start the job. 4. They leave dirty rags and sponges on expensive digital equipment. 5. They treat your home like it's a movie set. What you can't see without using a ladder, they want paint. 6. They did not take sufficient care to protect my outdoor lights, window frames, and the concrete outside my house. 7. I often found it difficult to get updates or clear answers to my questions. 8. Communication throughout the process was inconsistent among the two-person crew, the project manager, and their office manager. 9. I was submitting so many complaints, I felt like I was the project manager without the pay. I was truly working with the D-team instead of the A-team. read more

Recently someone knocked on my door and suggested giving me a free paint inspection & estimate. Ryan ended up coming out and gave me a very detailed inspection and showed me a couple options on how they could take care of my stucco damage and beautify my home. Ryan was very informative and answered all of my questions. I ended up going with CoolWall by TextCoat instead of latex paint because it came with a 50 year warranty and it's going to protect my wood from water damage. I've been presented with CoolWall from a different company before for a cheaper price, but I ended up working with SunTrust remodeling because they had amazing reviews, demonstrated all of the benefits of the product, and also they have done many projects in my neighborhood. We contracted Suntrust to paint the wood sidings and eaves on our house. When the crew hydroblasted the eaves, they also did the paint around the windows and garage doors. However these area were not painted along with the rest of the agreeed upon area. When we questioned Abel, the project manager after completion about this, he said it wasn't in the contract and "you can do it yourself". Since October 7th, my wife had reached out to Brooklyn, the scheduler at Suntrust (six test messages and one phone call), and has just gotten the runaround. Brooklyn either says she will get back to us, or she will have someone else contact us. To me good customer service dictates that if you or your vendors make a mistake, you make it right.
