Do Not book your vacation with this company. We booked through booking.com, but Sunspot manages the property. First, I was overcharged. I was quoted on booking at $702. and was charged $872. Upon arrival, the condo had a toilet that wouldn't flush properly. The water would go down but nothing else. When ever anyone in the complex flushed the toilet water would bubble up in both the kitchen and bathroom sink and not drain. We left after the first night. I requested a refund from Penny who said they would only refund the unused nights and I need to contact her supervisor after the weekend. When I tried to reach the supervisor I would get voicemail. They did refund the remaining 4 nights, at 113 per night ($453). They did not refund any charges or even the TAXES paid. They would not answer my phone calls or my repeated emails which I sent to numerous people within the company. BEWARE THESE PEOPLE ARE SCAMMERS! read more

Horrible. Worst Customer Service! After being told verbally, 2 months prior to our vacation that the cabin we rented had a hot tub and then not seeing it in the confirmation we received the week of I called to inquire - only to be hung up on twice by Penny! Because the reservation was made by my fiance Penny insisted she could not talk to me, was rude, interrupted continuously and hung up on me. Pretty sure I only got about 10 words in the conversation. Besides paying over $1000 for the weekend the 10 page .pdf with all of the rules was ridiculous and listed multiple ways you could be fined during your stay - adjusting the luke warm refrigerator to cold without asking for permission for example - also calling their office during your stay without a "necessary" inquiry comes with a $45 fee. Once we arrived at the SKYO Lodge there were cobwebs in the bedroom doorways, kitchen, stove etc... spiders living in the showers, mouse droppings in the pantries, a giant mousetrap behind a chair in the living room, no welcome list, poorly stocked towels, no sundries, tapwater that tasted like blood, bars of soap with hair on them in the showers left from before, hazardous loose beams on the deck, the place felt like we had stumbled into an abandoned cabin in the woods except it was right off the highway and the drive in was through a disheveled trailer park and didn't feel private at all... oh and did I mention it was for sale, with a clause in the rental agreement indicating that real estate agents had the right to gain access wether the do not disturb sign was there or not. We recently rented a 2 bedroom condo (Ohana #330) at the Waikomo Streams Villa in Poipu, Kauai. On the 1st day of our stay, we encountered a rat problem. Certain appliances were also not working. We notified Sunspots immediately, but they did not have another place for us to move to right away. Four days later, we moved only to find the new place wasn't even cleaned or ready for us. We had to wait another 3 hrs (8-11pm). Sunspots refused to compensate us for the inconvenience. This company seems like they do not care about their clients. We travel quite a bit - and this was our first experience with Sunspot Vacation Rentals. Do not make the same mistake we did - READ the Reviews. This place is just simply a CON. Why ? read on. 1) Heater didn't work (this is february near lake wenatchee, get the picture?). And No firewood for fireplace. - called left a message. No one came to fix or called back. 2) The hot tub didn't work. It almost got luke warm - not usable. - called left a message. No one came to fix or called back. 3) You will very likely NEVER get your damage deposit back ($300) in this case. Called the company 4 times now - you will get a manager (Penny), and she will put you through to accounting. Don't expect them to get back to you - ever. This is a company that appears well suited to taking your money and not providing the service they advertised. It must be amazing to folks that work there that people still buy this into this con. If only I could I would give Sunspots negative stars for ruining my Hawaiian vacation.... Last year we rented a 3 bedroom home in Kauai owned by the owners of Sunspots. When we got to the home, we stripped the sheets to wash them and found what looked to be a large blood stain on the mattress of the master bedroom. Since we needed every bed in the house, this was unacceptable, and aboslutely disgusting! We were told that someone would be coming to look at it, and we spent half a day of our already too short Hawaiian vacation waiting around for someone to come. Eventually, we packed up and checked into a hotel. Unfortunately, the drama didn't end there. After numerous attempts to contact Sunspots to receive a refund, we eventually were told that the stain was not blood and were accused of making the stain. Luckily, I was able to dispute it with the CC company with pictures and documentation and they issued a refund immediately. DON'T use this company EVER. I wished I remembered to check the BBB website prior to booking with this monstrosity of a company because the BBB gave them a big fat F! read more

Our family has stayed with this company every year for almost a decade. They have been courtesy, helpful and every house has been great. We especially liked our stay in Seattle. The sales person did a great job in explaining the place. The housekeeper was very pleasant. We did see them evict some renters from a house next door when we complained that the group was partying late at night. We were very thankful that the Sunspots managers were not adverse to risking unhappy guests when those guests were so obnoxious. I don't think you could find a more courtesous bunch of people. This has to be one of the most dishonest companies in Seattle. I had a good friend who used to work at Sunspots and they used to tell me all sorts of stories about terrible business practices he heard that they did. Everything seemed shady, but i thought they might be over exaggerating. So, when i had a very last minute trip to Cle Elum and i couldnt find anything else, i decided to rent though them (thinking that nothing bad could happen). I was so wrong!! They charged me for damages (even though i broke NOTHING and left the place in spotless condition). They never gave me a list of the damages, instead they just kept my deposit and never gave it back. Also, when we arrived it looked like the place hadnt been vacuumed in months. After my issues, i poked around, and there are SO many complaints against this company. DO NOT rent from them!!! read more

As a home-owner, I would suggest any other vacation rental outfit anywhere before going with Sunspots. They rent to people that damage the place, they pay no attention to any restrictions, and they fail to collect or pay any damages to the owner. In short, home-owners basically subsidize Sunspots for their horrible practices. No wonder they rated F at the Better Business Bureau. Stay away. You'll be glad you did. read more

I was referred to Hotel Edelwiess by Leavenworth Chamber of Commerce on Sept 24 for reservations for Oct 9 & 10th. I was told by phone that they had a room left and the rate would be $219 for both nites. I reserved the room with my credit card. I was told that in order to confirm the reservation and allow them to charge my credit card, I needed to sign the Lodging confirmation paper they would email to me, and then I needed to fax it back to them. I got the paper that night after work and saw that it was not from the hotel Edelwiess and it was not the agreed upon $219. It was from a Sunspots company and the charge was $501.22, NOT the AGREED upon $219. They decieved me and charged me more than double without me knowing it. I called them the NEXT DAY, no one answered, and I left a message of cancellation PLUS I sent an email. I called later on that day to confirm they received the cancellation and was told yes they got the message and that they emailed me their reply. In the first paragraph, it stated that "cancellation rules were spelled out when I reserved" but in fact were NEVER explained to me OR TOLD TO ME. It further states the rules are noted in the websites guest vacation agreeement. I DID NOT GO TO THE WEBSITE for these reservations, I called them direct on the phone after getting the number from the Leavenworth C of C. I have called them several times and couldn't get hold of them, however, "Penny Taylor" emailed me that she re -rented the room and they are awaiting the new tenants to "return the lease agreement WITH THEIR PAYMENT and they will calculate a credit to my account. etc etc I checked with my Visa credit card and I have been credited with a mere $137.21...I am furious...They have bilked and scammed an innocent senior citizen here! Yesterday I checked Google and found that this very same company has bilked hundreds of others...Tripadvisor.com is loaded with the same stories, the same tactics, same scam lines to get the money up front, then not return it. Seattle BBB, I find, has rated them an "F". These people cannot be allowed to continue these scam practices to make their profit. I have filed complaints with the BBB and the Washington state attorney general and Seattle King 5 news. read more

My siblings and I rented a different house first, called the Three Bears Lodge. Upon arrival everything seemed fine until we went to take showers and the shower heads were easily 15 years old and did not work properly, then we got into bed and found out the sheets were as rough as potato sacks. The kitchen appliances were all malfunctioning, etc. Then the roof started leaking. The first day experience was horrible and we started looking for another house and found the Four Seasons. I called and spoke to Penny, explaining my frustration with the other company. She obviously understood and helped us reserve the Four Seasons house and we had an address within 30 minutes. Upon arrival around 6pm, the housekeeper wasn't finished yet but I needed to feed the kids and put them to sleep so I sent them on their way as the beds, bathrooms and living areas were Cleaned. The living areas were spacious and there is a hot tub a few steps off the huge deck and lots of private outdoor space. It was absolutely beautiful, when the snow came it was magical. The upstairs bedrooms were smaller but everything worked, unlike our other, much more expensive, Lodge. The wood burning fireplace was wonderful. The upstairs bunk bed was odd as the mattress was much to thick and the kids could barely fit under there with the top bunk so we pulled the mattress off onto the floor. The sky lights were a great plus, very nice to have natural light! My complaints: The tea pot, pots and pans were cast iron and looked dirty /greasy so we did not do much cooking. I would have also liked to have at least one set of spare sheets per bedroom and towels in the bathrooms versus the bedrooms. The front load washer needs to be maintained and cleaned. I did a couple loads and everything came out smelling rotten as this is a known problem for this style washers. Not to be picky, but a carpet wash would be nice for families visiting with little ones still on their hands and knees. Other than that, we had an amazing time. Before booking a vacation with this company do your homework and see the reviews out there. Also check the Better Business Bureau and see the rating and number of complaints. This company does business under a number of different names. Anytime you spend your money do your homework and to help make sure you are not dissapointed. Also, make sure to monitor your credit card for charges. At the first site of an authorized charge contact your credit card company and dispute the charge. There are many options for vacations and either owner or third party managed - make sure you do your homework before you make a decision. read more

I only wish I had seen the poor reviews before we rented in Leavenworth. I think this is the most disgusting condo I have ever seen, and Sunspots service is equally as disgusting. From the wet carpets to the urine stained mattress and broken bed frame, how any of us got a minute's sleep is beyond me. First they coax you into booking with your credit card, then they send you reams of paper indicating all the conditions and rules you must adhere to--or "there will be a fee," such as $50 per day for an extra car. Give me a break! They squeeze every dime they can out of you, and make you so anxious about meeting their requirements that you can't enjoy your vacation. Moreover, our rental property was not ready for rental: electrical problems; cable problems; no shovel to remove snow; no ax to chop wood. And Sunspots would not make remedy with the owner for us. I was in the process of renting a vacation house through Sunspots last summer. Over the phone and in writing, I gave my requested dates and was told the house was available. I supplied my credit card number to reserve the house and was emailed the rental contract. After reviewing the contract I noticed the check-in date was not as requested and called to get the date straightened out. The mistake was clearly Sunspots' error- I had in writing and a voicemail from Sunspots stating that the house was available for the date requested. My understanding was that nothing would be charged to the credit card until the contract was signed but they charged $2500.00 the day they emailed the contract to me. They were not interested in correcting their mistake or refunding the partial rent that they had charged my credit card BEFORE the contract was executed. After they had the money they did not give a hoot about fixing THEIR error. We eventually got our money back after disputing the charge through our credit card. Wish I had done research on this company before contacting them -- I quick internet search would have revealed Sunspots has an 'F' rating with the Better Business Bureau and had to pay $$$ restitution to the WA State Attorney General's office. Search the web for complaints and read for yourself. King 5 and Kiro 7 both did consumer reports on Sunspots in 2009. If you have complaint against Sunspots, I urge you to file a complaint with the WA State Attorney General's Office. I placed a deposit for a house and guesthouse in Winthrop on December 31, 2015 for five nights between Christmas and New Year 2016. The deposit was half of the total rental price due day of booking. The contract states that this is a "GUARANTEED ADVANCED LODGING booking", and that the lodging will be provided "barring problems beyond our control." These two units sleep 15 people and we had friends and relatives with airline reservations from across the country planning to spend the holidays with us. At the end of October, 2016, I received a call from management telling me that the property had been sold and we would not be able to vacation there. Oh and by the way, we have no other rental to offer you. Of course not!!! It was almost November! They covered themselves with their vague "problems beyond our control" yet the customer cannot cancel, unless they are able to rebook the property and then a cancellation fee is charged. I find this company despicable. Who does this? Here's a lesson. What if you booked a property for a wedding or other momentous occasion? Check first that you are indeed guaranteed. I could understand a disaster, such as a fire, but to me, if you are a rental company, you should ascertain that owners must honor all rentals, before selling. In addition to pulling our vacation out from under us, they lied, told me the property wasn't put on the market until August, but I found records that said it was in May. They should have given me the option to cancel for free and salvage my vacation, as I could have found other accommodations seven months in advance. read more

I will never rent from this company again. The price I was originally quoted was different from what I was billed. When I questioned the rep she said she had told me of the additional charges...NOT TRUE, I had written everything down that she quoted me. The house itself was beautiful, as it should be for $800. a night plus a fee to use the pool, plus a "rental agency" fee. The final straw was the fact that it took 3 months and numerous emails to recieve my $500. damage deposit back. I agree about the awful business practices. We rented a place in Leavenworth that looked like someone had tried to break in many times and had a vagrant sleeping in a hallway below us. The back door to the building that was supposed to lock was warped and couldn't even be shut. The inside was okay, but no dvd player, even though this was advertised. I called many times when we returned and got no answer back from anyone. Do not rent from these people! read more

While staying in a property managed by Sunspots, we had an accident in which the carpet was damaged. I have always been fully prepared to pay for the damages that were done. However, Sunspots did not honor the Accidental Damage Waiver that I purchased along with the rental agreement that would cover up to $1000 of accidental damage. Immediately after the damage occurred, I followed the instructions to call Sunspots and let them know. I called the only number that they provided me with. The damage waiver contract states that a Sunspots manager is supposed to answer and then come out to survey the damage. However, no one answered number and so I left a voicemail describing what had happened. I never heard back from Sunspots regarding the message I left concerning the damage. We checked out of the property on Sunday, January 2, 2011 but I never heard back from Sunspots regarding this issue until March 14, 2011. At this time, they claimed to have sent a letter (which I never received) dated Feb 3, 2011 describing the damage and with an attached estimate and pictures of the damage. The estimate included replacement of the damaged carpet but also replacement of carpet in the house that was not damaged and did not match the carpet that was damaged. Sunspots believed that it was my responsibility to pay for the undamaged carpet as well as the damaged carpet. Despite my leaving several voicemails and emails to various people urging them to call me to discuss the issue, I never received a call from them. Sunspots have sent me two letters regarding the issue. The first one I received on May 10, 2011 and contained two letters: one dated April 30, 2011 (10 days earlier); and one dated April 6 (more than a month earlier). Neither of these letters contain direct contact information to get in touch with William May, the signer of the letter. The letters stated that they refused to honor my damage waiver because according to their records I didn't leave a message. They did not address my concern about the fact that the undamaged carpet in the estimate does not match the carpet that was damaged. Upon receiving the letter on May 10, I immediately called the only number I had available to me and also sent an email to the only email address I had available to me. These messages were to emphasize that I still did not agree with their assessment of the situation and urged them to call me. I received a letter on June 1, 2011 that was dated May 24, 2011 (over a week after it was dated, and more than three weeks after my initial request to talk to someone). This letter states that they still refuse to take seriously my complaints and demand payment without allowing me to talk to anyone. I found this completely unacceptable. After everything was resolved (by filing an insurance claim...dealing with Sunspots is exhausting), they sent me a letter saying that I am not able to write a review of their services. This seems to me illegal that I am forbidden from voicing my opinion about their business so here I am. They are a horribly run, unethical business. read more

We will never rent from Sunspot Vacation Rentals again. We rent out place in Washington state in winter, when we got there, roads were not clean from the snow, we had to push our cars up on the hill all the way to the house, the price they gave us originally was different from what they charged us. we payed $250 cleaning fee and when we moved out, we had to clean all house ourselves. We payed $500 deposit, and got only $83 back, they sad we broke something, which we DID NOT and they are not willing to give you any prove of what you broke. After you pay money, you CAN NOT get hold of anyone, and if you do, they don't know anything and you have to call back. we could not do anything there, because you have to pay fee for smoking outside of a house, sliding outside is prohibited, house is for 11 people, but you CAN NOT HAVE MORE THEN 2 CARS, if more, it will be towed away. and it just was horrible, I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO ANYONE. read more
