My reservation was just cancelled the morning of. I am thankfully a Seattle local, but what if I had flown in? There is nothing available now, this was my last resort in the first place and now I am stuck. I'm in 12 hour work days on Saturday and Sunday and desperately need somewhere to stay so I don't have to tack a 2 hour commute to the beginning and end of my days. And now I am left with no option and 16 hour days. The explanation was "emergency situation", which is exactly what I'm now left with. Since booking, the experience has not been great. I booked via phone on 7/29 and was asked to send a check immediately, so I waited for an email. 4 days later when I was on vacation for my birthday I followed up and was finally given the information. She wanted me to mail a check the next day, but I didn't bring a checkbook on vacation, so I had to do the next best thing and utilize Bank of America's online system to mail a check. This usually takes a week since it's considered "bill pay". I was informed the check was delivered August 9th, and the money came out of my bank account, but she said it was not received. Not a huge deal, just had to call the bank and cancel it, so I sent another check. I had been waiting to hear that it arrived when I am woken up with a text this morning that my reservation is cancelled. So now my husband and I are scrambling and I have no idea what to do. We've already paid our pet sitter and he took the next 2 days off work. Losing money and being stuck is not a fun situation to be in. read more

Beautiful, beautiful place to get away. It says Bed & Breakfast, but what I love is that they bring the breakfast to you, so you don't have to sit around a breakfast table making nice with a bunch of strangers when you are really wanting to just enjoy a private and romantic getaway. We stayed in the Arbor Cottage because it was separate from the other rooms and was its own cottage. There was a nice little deck to enjoy, too. Perfect for playing a board game if you find that kind of thing romantic (maybe we are strange that way...). A jacuzzi is always nice, too. I don't recall this place costing as much when we went a few years back, so $175 seems a little high, but if you've got it to spend, this is a beautiful place to spend it, and taking the ferry to Vashon Island and just driving around is fun, too. read more

This was the perfect romantic get away for a short stay on Vashon Island. We only stayed one night, but came on Vashon's "First Friday" so we had the chance to visit the galleries and mingle amongst the Islanders. Interesting group of people sometimes... Anyway, the Artist's Studio Loft was a beautiful little B & B, with pretty gardens and a little pond. I'm sure in the summer it would be gorgeous, but it still was kept up for the winter time. The rooms were reasonable and the hot tub was sooo nice after biking around the island. Jacqueline, the owner, was really sweet and we got to know about her and all her travels during breakfast. It was a really relaxing stay, and is conveniently close to downtown. read more

Valentines Day ! It was a long flight from DC to Seattle then straight to Vashon Island. The way we travel involves spontaneity so while on the ferry we searched online for a place to stay . . called the Artist's Loft and was able to get a room for the night. We stayed in the Ivy Room. It was a perfect romantic setting and the hot tub was just outside our door. We were able to enjoy the hot tub on a clear, star-filled, crisp evening and again first thing in the morning. There are a series of rooms and cottages. The main house does not house guests but we were the only couple there and joined Jacqueline for a sit-down breakfast. The room cost (incl taxes) was approx $140. In the am we walked around the gardens and enjoyed watching birds, snow geese and the neighbors horse - - the field boarders the B&B. Had a very good weekend at B&B. We appreciated the excellent communication, and the website has accurate information to help plan your stay. The B&B is pretty close to the town, so that makes it easy to bike or run. The breakfast the next morning was very good. The room was spotless and had a nice coffee maker, mini-fridge, and a TV and DVD player. A great experience, would for sure visit again and recommend to others. read more

My partner and I just went to the Artist's Loft on Vashon Island last weekend. It's a very pretty place - the room and garden were clean and decorated immaculately. The hosts are clearly talented home decorators and landscapers. However, they are less skilled in the area of hospitality. Our interactions with our host made us feel as if we were a burden to her. She complained that running a B&B was "just a job like any other" and told us if you use the hot tub "speak very quietly, or not at all. People don't realize how loud they can be sometimes." The kicker was a Seinfeld-like episode we have entitled "The Breakfast Debacle". Despite advertising as a B&B, which to us suggests a sit-down breakfast with other guests, we were told upon arrival that our breakfast was in the fridge. It consisted of two yogurts, two box orange juices, two milks and two blueberry muffins which looked like they'd been bought at the 7-11. Considering we paid nearly $200.00 for the room for the night, this left a slightly bad taste in our mouths, but we let go of it. However, the next morning, we ran into another guest who asked us "Are you joining us for breakfast?" Indeed, we could smell the pleasant scent of bacon coming from the main house, but were confused. "That's funny," I said. "The host told us there wasn't a sit-down breakfast." "No, no," the woman said. "Breakfast is at 9. Come join us. It comes with the cost of the room." She proceeded up to the main house, where she was greeted by the host and welcomed in. A few minutes later, another couple went in as well. Confused, we went to the main house at 9. When the host opened the door, we could see that a lovely breakfast was being put together for the three people sitting at the table. However, we were turned away by the host, who said tersely that she only had enough room for breakfast for two couples, and that our breakfast was in our room. This experience left us feeling scolded and unwelcome, which was not what we came to Vashon for, so I thought I would pass on a warning to those who go to B&Bs for warmth and hospitality that you may not get it here. If aesthetic beauty is more important to you, however, then the risk of 7-11 muffins for breakfast may be worth it, because as I said, the place is beautiful. read more

A lovely country retreat. Because we stayed at low season, Jacqueline gave us a tour of all the cabins/rooms of varying flavors and sizes. Clearly all are works of art and love. Our room was small, comfortable and clean. The coffee in the room is quite good and breakfast lovingly prepared.Although beautifully located in the country, the little town is just a short drive away. We only had one complaint which was that the second day we were surprised to find that the cleaning person had not shown up. We arrived back at night to find the trash not emptied, sink not cleaned, dishes not washed, etc.It must have been a slip up of some kind having seen how meticulous all the rooms had been on our tour. We will return despite this slip up. read more

I was looking for a quiet few days to work away from the construction noise by my house and enjoyed my stay. Jacqueline is pleasant, professional, and friendly without being intrusive. She is detail-oriented. The cabins are stocked and nicely decorated without being overdone and cluttered, which I've experienced at other B&Bs and is not my style. The grounds will probably be beautiful in spring/summer, but I visited in soggy February so didn't explore. The cabins are well-maintained and you are expected to treat them with respect. Yes, there are many signs to remind you of rules like not smoking, common sense things like not putting inappropriate items in the toilet (everyone should already know this!), or explain how things work. I can see how people would consider this uptight, but personally I feel more comfortable when boundaries are clear and I don't have to ask questions. YMMV. Use common sense, pick up after yourself, and it's all good. Breakfast was a giant muffin, banana, babybell cheese, granola bar, yogurt, milk, and orange juice. The kitchen had a fridge, microwave, and toaster oven but no stovetop, which is one thing I didn't know in advance and would have been a problem for me. You might want to bring an electric skillet. There's a decent number of restaurants and a grocery store but Vashon seems to shut down early so plan ahead. T-Mobile cell service was dicey with unreliable signal and frequent slow data so be prepared to enjoy being off the grid for a while. My only disappointment was lack of enough hot water for the tub. However, it was February. I recommend running only hot water until it runs out, then adding cold. Pro tips: Read the website closely. The things that people complain about here are clearly stated, at least as of this writing. It's reasonable to be asked to keep it down out of respect for other guests, who are probably there to enjoy the quiet. The breakfast availability is explained. Other guests don't always know what's going on so don't take their word as gospel. Enjoy! read more

My husband and I came here for our 10th anniversary. Very romantic, very quiet, peaceful and beautiful. Perfect location away from town and yet very close. The room was very clean and the bed was so comfortable! Thank you for a fabulous weekend! read more

Artist's Loft is gorgeous. We stayed at the Riverbirch Inn. The tranquil setting, amenities and atmosphere were what we had hoped. Unique artistic touches lured me and my husband out onto the 5 acres of lush landscape and inspired me get my garden in shape. Jacqueline is sweet and seems to struggle with the tensions of being an innkeeper. Such a beautifully, well-kept and well-loved home may be hard to share with the general public. Lots of rules to follow that seemed obvious, but perhaps were not obvious to guests she had catered to in the past. If you have empathy for business owners who tire easily of the general stupidity and complaints of the public at large, this will be a 5 star experience. If you are sensitive to other's hospitality, the visit may be a bit like visiting grandma's house and having to pay for the pleasure of minding all your p's and q's. read more

What a great place. We loved our stay at the Artist's Studio Loft on Vashon Island. We were there for 3 relaxing days this September. It's beautiful place with lovely gardens and very clean, wonderfully decorated rooms. The gates and bells and artistic touches everywhere were so inspirational. The entire place had a very spiritual feel about it. Our cottage had everything we wanted, a 2 person tub, fireplace and was warm, inviting and comfortable. Jacqueline, the owner, was very friendly and welcoming also very helpful about places to eat. Vashon is a pretty fun place to go. We left feeling relaxed and renewed. We look forward to returning.
