it was my first time to Gig Harbor and what a cute little town! This place is adorable and adorned with Bear themed trinkets! The story of this place is also a fun read... the husband and wife put in some serious work throughout the 13+ years! We enjoyed chatting with the owner, the whole town is very friendly. I also recommend staying at the rose room. it's so clean and victorian style! I enjoyed the accomodations, access to tea and fresh baked cookies/candy and daily breakfast. Lovely B&B in Gig Harbor. Very private, clean, inviting. Looks like a wonderful outdoor event space for wedding or family get together. We had the best breakfast prepared by the owner. Lovely grounds to walk around. Bonfire and beautiful gazebo, great for relaxing. Mattress and pillows were comfortable- the room was very, very clean! Probably one of the cleanest places I have ever stayed, and I have traveled all over the world. We felt extremely comfortable there, even with the covid19 nervousness. The woodwork is absolutely beautiful. The property is very well maintained and wonderfully upkept. Thankfully we have this wonderful option in Gig Harbor when visiting family and friends. Made a reservation online through Hotels.com. Arrived after a long day of driving. The owner claimed that she had never listed the site on Hotels.com, would never do so in "all the years" she had been a bed-and-breakfast. She also said that while she had availability she wasn't just an overnight hotel and that we should call Hotels.com to get our money back. "I don't know who you paid, but you didn't pay me." There were 3 rooms listed on Hotels.com. We booked The Dahlia room. The owner didn't even have the courtesy to come and speak to us in person and offered no assistance. Bear's Lair - Bed & Breakfast Near Me - Gig Harbor, Washington

Oh boy, this is a tougher review. Positive side is the location. Not far from the sound or Gig Harbor. It's nestled in the trees in a small housing zone of maybe 4-6 homes. Hot tub works well. Full kitchen king size bed with supportive mattress. Down Side; room not restocked. The breakfast's served look good but other than the baked good, was Mwa! Rooms were dated. Communication seemed a bit strained. When we did ask to have the previous occupants refrigerated food removed, so as to put ours in, the manager took EVERYTHING. Uggg! (We had been saving sandwiches from a great west Seattle bakery to eat,grrrr) No WiFi or no code for WiFi given. The other morning someone in this small housing tract started their loud wood chipper at 7am for the next two hours. Management made no inquiries as to this And the name has changed. So it made check in a bit awkward. read more

Bear's Lair is, simply put, a little slice of loveliness tucked away on the outskirts of Gig Harbor. We found Bear's Lair thanks to a LivingSocial deal, timed perfectly for an anniversary trip in December. Reserving the room was as easy as a phone call and showing up. The first time we stepped into the Carriage House, we were blown away by how ornate and welcoming the decorations were. There were chocolates in the bedroom and strawberries in the fridge, and it felt like we had discovered a perfectly-appointed cabin in the woods. We settled in and spent a delightful two days relaxing, playing games, and enjoying the area. Outside, even though it was winter, is a pretty fountain, a gazebo, and a rose garden - unfortunately we were there at the wrong time of year to see it in full bloom, but it was lovely nonetheless. Let's not forget the breakfasts, hand-created every day by Jen, one of the Bear's Lair's two proprietors. You can have breakfast in the main house, or choose to have it brought to your room. Jen typically starts with a selection of fresh fruit and cream, a light treat, and then moves onto whatever culinary delight she's put on for the day. It might be a small souffle, or a breakfast strada, but rest assured it will be both delicious and satisfying, and comes with some great conversation. It's a funny thing - most bed and breakfasts have me feeling awkward in the morning. Having to chat with strangers while I'm still waking up? Not my thing, typically. But somehow, Bear's Lair overcomes all that. Whether you're talking to other guests or just to Jen and her husband Giulio, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming and ideal for conversation to flow easily. Each morning was as full of great talk as it was of great food. Since that first trip, we've returned to Bear's Lair to stay again, this time in the Dahlia Room, part of the main house. Though smaller than the Carriage House, it was no less wonderful, and had a warm character all its own, with a flowing fountain outside the window, beautiful art on the walls, and all the trimmings. Both of our stays at the Bear's Lair have been nothing short of delightful. The place Jen and Giulio have carved out in the woods feels remote and private, and is a perfect place to get away from it all for a few days. We'll be back again - hopefully this time we'll get to see those roses in bloom! read more

We participated in a small wedding reception at Bear's Lair event center last weekend. Can't say enough about what a lovely property it is, what a terrific event manager Colleen is, and how well everything turned out. Easily accessible from SR16 and highwat 302...easy and safe left turn onto Danforth then about a mile or so to the B&B. The facility sits at the end of a long, well-maintained driveway, and is flawless...kind of an old country inn feeling in the looks and spacious grounds, lawns, gazebo and paths, in a "woodsy" setting...near but not visible to Puget Sound. Our room (Rose Room) was well-furnished, but not cluttered with furnishings...private bathroom, with spacious shower, 54mps Wi-Fi, very "together" look and feel, and large enough for two people to maneuver, read, watch TV, and nap. The dining room/great room has books, TV (I think), a sitting and reading area beverages and snacks available 24/7, and a refrigerator/freezer to store any personal perishables. The wood-work throughout the facility is "master craftsman" quality. Breakfast was excellent quality for our tastes, assured to happen because at check-in Jen made sure she understood our food preferences, needs, and allergies if any. There are products available from local crafts people and artisans, but the items are just used as décor...there's no push to buy anything. Warning to all interested in the livingsocial deal, I called and specifically asked about the dates I wanted, the owner said they were available and she would call in the morning if I went online and filled out the request for the dates I wanted. Well after sending another email, and two more attempted phone calls that went to voicemail, I was just told today (FIVE days later) that those dates were no longer available. The rooms in the main house were quaint and tidy. The 5 acre, park-like setting was amazing and made us want to stay longer. Jen and her helper, Christina, were attentive and kept a great campfire fire going well into the night for guests. OMG! This place is the best! The setting is gorgeous, the facility is beautiful, the "vibes" are all about peace, quiet, tranquility, romance. My wife and I stayed for just 1 night, not knowing what this place is all about, and we realize this would have been the perfect place to "re-set" with quiet reflection, meditation, and connection with each other. Our room was comfortable, well- and efficiently-appointed. Jen and her late husband built this lovely, secluded B&B from scratch, literally--an idyll carved out of forested acreage some 20 years ago--into a fantastic site, everything beautiful, tasteful, thoughtful, creative. At every turn of a corner--outside and inside--there's a pleasant surprise. Jen runs it now with an expert, personal touch, and you will love her casual, relaxed approach to a first class B&B! I don't know about the other reviewer, but I got excellent customer service. I called and made reservations and had to change them and they were more than accomodating. This is a great place for a get-a-way! We stayed in the carriage house and were met with homemade cookies, chocolate covered strawberries and sparkling cider. My husband and I stayed here while visiting our daughter. It was absolutely perfect! The Azalea Room was comfy and the room was spacious. The amenities were plentiful! Jen was spectacular with her breakfast and a wonderful hostess. We loved reading and hearing the story behind the bed and breakfast. We will be going back! We only stayed one night, but I wish it was longer! The grounds are so beautiful and well maintained. There are plenty of private areas on the property to spend relaxing quality time. There is also a fire pit and a hidden garden by the carriage house. Most rooms are in the main building, but we stayed in the carriage house. The house was quaint and dated but the woodwork is beautiful. The TVs are old, but we didn't go there to watch TV. There are lots of games provided which we loved! There is also a large collection of VHS movies which we got a kick out of. I though it was odd that no windows in the whole place, including the bedroom, have full curtains. I would have preferred more privacy or the ability to block out the sun in the morning so I could sleep in. Breakfast was delivered right on time and was very good, especially the fresh orange juice. There is soda and juice provided in fridge as well as a fully equipped kitchen. I would definitely stay here again! read more

We stayed 2 nights on a living social deal. Hospitality is awesome! They thought of everything and then some. Very friendly. The place was designed and built by the owners as a bed and breakfast.
